If you are a fan of Sony, or want to discuss future Playstation games, then post here.
Sony Discussion sounds better....I guess. Oh well.

I thought Playstation worked better, 'cause that's what all their systems are named under.
*shrug*
I would have probably called it the Sony Playstation Discussion thread or just Playstation Discussion thread cause the Xbox thread isn't called the Microsoft discussion thread but that is just me.
It's just a thread name. There, everyone's happy.

Some People like all systems so you need 3 seperate threads.PS3 is coming out Late 2006.The Playstation 2 that had a recordable DVD player built in.Never showed up in North America. It was called PSX anybody remember it.Not Playstation 1.

*thumbs up* works for me...
It wasn't a recordable DVD player, but a PS2 with a TV tuner with TiVo like features built in.

It cost too much money to buy.Japan did not want it either. The concept of this is dead.Hpefully Sony does not make PS3 with built in TIvo because it would screw up the system. My first Ps 2 got DRE because of playing DVDS on it.My second one is just strictly games.
I use a DVD player for movies now.

Oh my, this thread is going to be lonely and unloved.
So anyway, I'll just post a couple of must have games. If anyone wants to add something (which I doubt) feel free.
- Dark Cloud 2: Dark Chronicle
- Final Fantasy series
- ICO (I guess, I've never played it)
- Jak and Daxter
- Metal Gear Solid series
- Ratchet & Clank series
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Barkworm forgot the best game ever made.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Trust me, it's bad ass. The main character can run faster than birds fly, and he literally sweats sex appeal (I swear it's an ability in the game.) You need to play this game. Everyone does. It has just about everything anyone could ever want in a video game.
I agree. The game is so ultimate. It's probably the only game I can beat, and then start a new file and play it AGAIN. The game never gets old. Ever. The guy is sexy in all forms. He even gets some barely 18 ass. I love it. I need it. He's my idol. The game is definitely everything I could ever want in a video game.

And Goddamn Sony canelled the sequel because it was 2D. I love that game more than words can discribe. I love all of its GBA sequels as well. I'll most likely love the DS sequel that's coming too. That is a KICKASS game.
And yes I played it on Bleem. :P

Is any one besides me playin' Viewtiful Joe 2 on the PS2? That game is fun and rad. I like the graphics and the fighting mechanics. The bosses are really full of variety and the cut scenes add humor to the game. The puzzles are very diverese and I like being able to play as two characters. If anyone hasn't checked them game out they should. Its rad.

The Character's name was Alucard a boss from Castlevania 3 nes.For this game I would have prefered Castlevania Dracula X instead of the new game coming for PS2.The critics say the new Castlevania is pretty bad.
I think Konami should stop trying to do Castlevania in 3D.It doesnot work.GRadius 5 is in 2D it sold pretty well for a old school game.

Anyway, back on topic. I heard of Bleem, TMB, but didn't know they released it. I'm disappointed that I didn't get it. I was looking forward to being a cheap ass with Playstation games. When, exactly, did it come out?
Bleem required you to own the actual game CD, or at least the image file of it. So the only thing good about Bleem was you could play Playstation games without leaving your computer, in case you're a lazy bastard like me.
Bleem came out a few years ago. I'm not sure if it's still being funded or not. It's been a while since I've seen it being circulated. I know there's a better Playstation emulator out now. One plays practically every game perfectly.

Bleemcast was a piece of crap. It only works with a couple of games (Metal Gear Solid and Gran Tourismo 2 or something like that).
Amyways, forget Bleem. It's funding died ages ago when Sony hammered it. Bleem won the lawsuit, but the legal fees killed them. There's a better one anyways. It's called ePSXe, a multifunction emu with more options and configuration abilities than you'd ever need. Joystick support, multipile resolutions, hell you can mess with the poly count if you want. It's nutso. That, and it's work with almost every game ever released. PM me if you want it.

If anybody's PS2 has stopped working, you can get it fixed for free by sony. Just call them and tell them what happened and you can send it out to be fixed. They pay for shipping and they sent me a new controller with the fixed PS2. Warranty or receipt does not matter.
I guess its because the DVD driver screws something up because they were cheaply made, so sony sued the dvd company, and now they can fix all the PS2's

It probably isn't very fun gettin' kicked out of EB especially if your gonna buy somethin' there and they tell you to leave. Everyone gets embarrassed and you feel like a heel when you look back at it. I don't see why you would wanna mess up PSP anyways. That device is more superior than a DS. What I meant about that Metal Gear Acid and Death Jr. thing is that maybe some with DS don't know that those games are gonna be on PSP. DS makes my thumbs hurt;I have big hands. PSP has MP3 and a DVD player which is nice so I won't have to buy an iPod or a portable DVD player. I know that DS didn't have a lot of good lauch titles and I can't really be convinced to buy it. You shouldn't mess up a PSP with a stylus. What if someone wants to play and the screen's all scratched? I guess if you break it or ruin it then you gotta buy it.

Sony Revealing PS3 Next Week?
RUMOR: If the new system is shown early, just who will see it?
by David Adams
March 8, 2005 - Sony will unveil the PlayStation 3 to its key executives in an internal meeting next week, according to a story on GamesIndustry.biz. The article reports that the news comes from "senior sources" close to Sony at this year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Sony has already stated officially that the PlayStation 3 will be revealed for the first time at this year's E3 in Los Angeles, where rivals Microsoft and Nintendo are also expected to reveal their next console offerings.
Apparently, next week's meeting is for Sony executives only, and even the company's top developers are not invited to the event.
Sony did not return our request for comment by the time of this writing.
If the internal meeting is indeed happening, it seems likely that not only are the PS3's specifications finalized, but a software demonstration should be part of the presentation -- Sony has sent advanced software kits to developers both here and in Japan already.
Either way, we're just a few months away from E3, where the PlayStation 3 will make its first public bow at last. We'll be there, of course, bringing you every tasty detail -- as well as back with more updates in the meantime.

We're almost at E3, baby. Maybe something will leak after this executive meeting.

As far as I know, the PS3 is supposed to have the biggest hardware power of all the three. It will be interesting to see what kind of graphics they're going to pull on that thing.
Here's some news of PSP's online service. It's kind of long, so...
-----------------------
GDC 2005: Hands-On: WiFi Online
Not the games, necessarily, but we net up through the PSP's intranet mode.
by Nix
March 9, 2005 - Why, of course it's online.
Of course. A system the size of last year's cellphones, that somehow puts out PS2-quality graphics and sound, with the brightest screen we've ever seen outside of the IGN demo room, and WiFi multiplayer for as many as 16 players ... naturally, there is also, on top of all of this unimaginable technology, the ability to game on the internet.
Yes, of course...
It's not that it's unthinkable in this day and age, but many are still trying to wrap their heads around the idea that Sony's little PSP will include full-featured online play in certain titles. More inconceivable, that there are a number of games due out at launch that include the feature set. But on March 24th, gamers will see for themselves that it actually is possible and very imaginable -- once you get into a PSP Infrastructure-mode game (the WiFi term for "online"), it all feels as normal as playing a console game online. We haven't actually had a chance to play a PSP game online yet to see how performance works over WiFi games, but the PSP versions of several SCEA titles here at GDC featured their online components as selectable modes on the menu.
Essentially, it works as it does on the PS2, and with nearly the same feature sets. The first step to getting online with PSP games is to set up a networked game. This is a global feature, much like how setting your PS2 at home for AOL or your cable modem just once is carried over to other PSP games. Instead of setting up a modem, however, here you will be setting up a connection. You can create one of a number of network settings (very handy considering that PSPers will be traveling from home to the coffee shop to the library and home again). Each connection stores your SSID settings, and can be configured to save WEP-encryped passwords. The mode can also scan the neighborhood for available WiFi HotSpots, and gives you a read-out of whether they are open or have WEP locks.
Set that up, and you are ready to connect and/or play online. We played with the network settings in two of the three online-enabled games (Twisted Metal: Head-On and ATV Off-Road Fury, with 989's NBA also due to include the Infrastructure mode.) Both games had separate modes for online, and neither required you to hop out to the global PSP menu to turn on Infrastructure mode (interestingly enough, the Network Set-Up was also handled right there in the game, unlike on PS2 where it has to load the other mode.)
Twisted Metal: H-O allowed you to set up either a Net game (basic kill'em all) or a Team game once you start to host your game. There was also an unexpected 2-player Co-Op story mode on the multiplayer menu (though we're not entirely sure this is online-enabled), which should be an interesting way to run through the unlockables, bringing a buddy in tow. The game's multiplayer modes featured Ad-Hoc (for local play of all your friends around, for up to six players), Infrastructure (which is the online mode -- we belive that this only supports 4 players, but were not able to see this in person), and Infrastructure LAN (which seems to be an excess frill, but may be a cool way of linking an office or a house full of Twisted players to connect up with each other instead of going through the dregs online. We weren't able to see the depth of the buddy list features, but we did notice that you can set up a password for private online play of your friends.
ATV Off-Road Fury had many of the same modes, plus one cool extra mode. Instead of connecting up to the game player lobby, the wireless mode menu for ATV included Ad-Hoc, Online, and Online Community. This online mode connects to the ATV web community outlet, allowing players to check scores, add friends to their ATV buddy list, chat, and much more. Chat was a feature shared by Twisted Metal -- when you want to talk with somebody, you pop up the chat menu, which includes the same PSP on-screen keyboard (something like a phone keyboard, navigated with the D-Pad or analog nub) as is used to set up your system name. This being a global feature for all PSP games, we're wondering if USB keyboard support or other types of chat input might either be part of the PSP online mode or else addable with a later PSP upgrade. We asked Logitech their plans for a PSP keyboard or microphone, and while they still have a number of projects under wraps, we got the feeling that they were caught unaware by how aggressive SCEA has been with online features this early on, and are still working to get together solutions for this Infrastructure mode. Another third party producer has already announced a USB keyboard for PSP in Europe, but it is unknown whether this keyboard will be supported for chat in the online games so far for PSP. In the meantime, Sony has been quiet about mic support for PSP since its initially-announced plans at E3 last year.

goddammit. Screwed again. Well, it's still cheaply made.
Can't win 'em all, TMB. They fixed the defects of PSP, and they're offering a service in Japan for defected PSP's that will replace them at no charge. Shouldn't have been defected in the first place, but stuff happens.
ThirdMarioBro

Good for them, but I still hate the thing. It's cheap, overpriced, poorl thought out, and is made for the sole purpose of merging gaming with the entertainment industry. I want a gaming device, not a multimedia gadget.
Well, I'm pretty sure it's going to take over in the US. Now I get to be in a handheld minority to boot. Fu*k. Well, fine whatever. Let people make fun, I don't care as long as I get online Mario Kart.
You may not want it, but other people do. Isn't the thing still outselling DS in Japan? I haven't checked in so long, so that's probably wrong now. I'm still not buying a PSP, because none of the games interest me. I'm just covering all bases here, because I'm a fan of the games still.
ThirdMarioBro
03-10-2005, 12:39 PM
Yeah, it's still outselling it in Japan. It's own to dominate here because of the Americanized culture. People want movies and games on one device rather than other higher quality devices that do the jobs better.
I don't care any more. I knew it was going to happen anyway from the get go just from the media hype that Sony paid for. Whatever. As long as Nintendo keep doing what they do (and make money at it), I'm happy.
And that's how it should be. I don't expect you to love everything that gets put out on the market. Hell, I'm not all that happy about the video games that are being put out these days, either. I still respect the companies who continue to make games, though. Everyone plays video games now, and that makes for better conversations with your friends and an understanding of each other's views. Back when I was a kid, plenty of people played video games, but they never talked about them. I guess because there wasn't much to say, because the games were so linear. Now with the complex gameplay and twisted plots in games, I can freely discuss my views and interpretations in a fun and care-free environment. Isn't that what video games are about? Having fun? There's no need to hate this game and that game, because you'd be hating yourself.
Okay, I'm done. Back to Sony discussion.

Whoa! Has anyone seen IGN's "God of War" review?! That game came like out of nowhere and 9.8 is a damn high rating, even for IGN. Thoughts? I think it looks pretty interesting and judging from the videos, the graphics are some of the best I've seen on PS2.
I've actually been following God of War some (something I rarely do w/ ps2 games anymore) and the game really looks promissing. I know someone who's played the demo and said the game is amazing. So i'll probably give it a shot.

There are a couple of reviews out now for "God of War" and it seems like everyone agrees that the game kicks ass. I've watched a couple of videos and it really, really looks cool. The combo system is supposed to be deep but easy too handle (which is good because I'm not into games like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry), the story looks interesting and the pieces of the soundtrack I heard were amazing. I'm sure that the game will be butchered in Germany though, it's just too violent.

Seeing those pictures: Is it just me or is everything portable with buttons you should be able to push getting smaller and smaller. I mean, even my bloody cell phone (damn that thing) is not much bigger than a box of matches. Uhm, where was I going? Right... uhm, Why does that stuff get smaller. I mean, the GameBoy was perfectly sized, you could easily carry it around in your pocket, you could get a good grip on it and it wasn't loaded with buttons. But seeinge that Sony-thing up there: four tiny buttons and one hell of a screen...

I'm not snapped up in any hype, in fact, I've read very little regarding the machine. I've seen it in action first hand, and it's impressive, most impressive, but it will not be purchased yet. I'm going to wait for it to come out without a stupid package, and after a price drop. I just want a PSP and Lumines. Simple as that.
As for the way PSP is selling, I've heard from many people on the subject. While game stores are usually sold out you can find them in abundance at places like Wal-Mart, as where it was almost impossible to find the DS anywhere for over a month. Sony will need to drop the price to compete with the DS, if that's even possible with the huge foot hold the Nintendo already has in the handheld market. Money doesn't grow on trees for most people, and Sony is going to have to realize that.
ThirdMarioBro
03-27-2005, 03:46 PM
Hey, I'm with you.
I do have a PS2 though... ;)
That's good to know.:) PS2 is different. It's a viable platform with a lot of good games (and soon to have Soul Caliber III  ), but to me, PSP is just a port machine. That Prince of Persia game is probobly a port, DMC is a port, Ridge Racer is a port, ect.
To be fair, Mario 64 DS and Ridge Racer DS are techinally ports as well, but the DS was made for new content and exploring new frontiers of gaming. It just seems no one is patient enough to wait for the good games to come out and bail out at the first sign of competition. I mean, geez. PS2 had one of the sh*ttiest launch lineups I ever remember seeing, but it still managed to hype up so big that it killed Dreamcast, and Dreamcast was just about to enter it's golden age. Hell, it could have still been around today, but hype of a new machine killed it. It just makes me sad to know that people just can't have any patience to wait for the new games to come out. It takes a while for every console. It's not like Nintendo is intentionally sitting there whording the games. It takes months or more to produce this junk. Would you rather have a crap ass port that Ninty could put out in several weeks and be happy with that? Hell, everyone refuses to buy a router to get online with DS, yet here comes PSP with basically the same exact setup and people are all over it. To me, that just dosen't make sense at all.
PSP just launched. WHen the hype dies out, it's wait will begin for the new games to come out. By then, DS's good stuff will start rolling in. What will you do by then if you don't have one. Hell, the good games may even force Sony to drop their price a little. Take that into consideration before making any rash purchases.
Peanut
03-27-2005, 03:59 PM
Indeed. I would never sell my DS, unless someone offered me a ridiculous amount of money for it. Then I'd just go buy a new one. I'm patiently waiting on the good stuff.
As for the whole online thing, I really don't care about it, so it doesn't make or break a deal with me. Neither does ports, because I love ports. I'd love to play PoP: WW on a handheld. Just like I love to play SM64 on the DS. I just want to have both because they offer different things. Don't think I've converted religions here or anything. I still don't like Sony, and I think PS2 is worthless, but the PSP is just a sexy piece of machinery and I need new systems. I'm crazy like that.
I buy what I like. I don't go out and buy the newest thing because it's all the rage. Okay, sometimes I do, but not when it comes to video games. I have to be so careful with what I buy these days, because a lot of stuff is total crap. But PSP. That thing had me mezmorized. And I agree with Peanut. Ports are pretty nice, especially when you can take it anywhere you go. Even if it does break if you drop it, I'm not an idiot. I don't think I've ever dropped an electronic device (besides my PC... ). I'm just really impressed with what Sony has done. I'm still going to buy DS, because it's a great idea. Actually, I usually buy every new console/handheld system, because I'm a consumer whore.
And I didn't convert to anything, because there wasn't anything to convert from. Like I said, I buy what I like, and I like the PSP.

I only said that point to see how you would react, and my prediction of you being an annoying fanboy was the answer. I would never trade in the DS, but I said that to prove a point that you are out of control. Just because Nintendo isn't slapped on the side of a machine, doesn't make it any lower than the Nintendo products. Just play what you want like most people here do. Just to put down a system because it wouldn't be right to support something that is popular is just stupid.

Let's just drop the whole thing. If you want a PSP, then by all means go and get it. It is a really sexy looking device. I just think it's a black GBA with more buttons....which was a shrunken pink Game Gear with more buttons  . That's my opinion. I never was trying to inforce it or anything. Anyway, let's just drop the whole thing. Hell, a part of me wanted one today for Darkstalkers, but the D-Pad put me off simply because you can't roll it to throw a fireball, and that's a Capcom fundimental and how I play.
It is a nice looking device, but so is DS in my opinion. I'll say no more bad stuff about it.
Anyway, if they put Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on it (or any Street Fighter), then I'll seriously consider it. That game is godly.

All the DS games where I live are only 30 and all the PSP games are 50. A bunch of kids were buying them the day they came out but their Mom's all paid for it and half of them had it on reserve for a looong time. It probly took them a good while to build up the 300. Sony would say only that the device sold "over half a million" units during its first 48 hours on the market, meaning that it sold only approximately 100,000 units continentwide over the next five days--at best. Still, Sony said the tally was enough to "further validate PSP as the most anticipated product of 2005 and an industry-altering force."
Heh heh, sounds like a coverup to me. Music to my ears. DS's launch did outsurpass PSP in the record books. In other words.....

Sony has just been granted a patent by the US government to begin development on what they call a "Brain Beam". No, this isn't a joke or a late April Fools prank. This device, they say, will be hopefully used one day in a future generation to deliver sensory information into the brain to give players a new way to interact with their games. It took a lot to get this patent because they had to prove that the brain beam couldn't be used for "unethical practices".

Let's just leave it at this. DS is here for it's reasons: to breath new life into gaming and bring gamers new ideas. PSP is here for it's reasons: to make the console experience portable.
I think in the end both systems will average out about equal. Nintendo's not going anywhere. Sony's not going anywhere. Same goes for the console market. Each company has it's own fanbase and that danbase will carry them through whatever.
Either way, Nintendo's handheld dominance is stable. They have 2 solid handhelds, one that's selling like wildfore, and another that has 23 million sold already and a 15 year liniage. PSP has potential as well, but both DS and PSP have yet to really live up to any promises. We know they will in time, and when they do owners of each will be happy campers. Fighting like this is what actually hurts our game companies the most. Let's just enjoy what each of us have and not attempt to just jump on each others fun and diss it. DS and PSP are both good platforms, let's leave it at that. As long as everyone makes money, everyone is happy and life goes on, and for Ninty and Sony that has never seemed to be a problem, ever.
Yeah, I'm pissed that Nintendo is no longer alone in the handheld industry. It's always been a haven from this console war sh*t. But now that's finally over. I was upset for awhile for fear of the ole "Nintendo is teh kiddiE OMFGLOL!1!1!" , but I finally realized that they can't call DS kiddy. Nintendo/Reggie made sure of that. Why worry. We can't help that we're fanboys. It's who we are. But let's stop fighting amongst ourselves. Fanboys or not, we're all close friends and I'm not letting my gaming beliefs change that.
*steps down from soap box and flips open DS*

Does your PS2 even work?
Funny fact: Sony Germany just announced that "God of War" won't be released here because of the excessive violent content. This way they're trying to avoid problems with our "national buerau for youth endangering media" (yep, it really exists). Since I badly want that game I'll have to get my hands on the UK version.

Yeah, it works, but it reads games slowly. I also have a messed up controller. I'll get around it.
It sucks you guys don't get God of War. I don't even know if I'll like it, it looks a little too bloody for my tastes. I guess we'll see.

I'm not into bloody games either but all the stuff I've seen Kratos do in the videos just looks too awesome.

Another PS2 exclusive is Soul Calibur 3. That game looks great. Hopefully it'll be just as good or better than Soul Calibur 2. Looks like the game will have quite a few of improvements.

Okay, that was Spam once more. I mean, I don't post "i dono teh game" whenever I don't know a game. I just let it be and if it interests me, I'll google for it. But posting it "i dono teh game" is not a good post.

And I always thought I could speak English, guess my A+ wasn't deserved after all. To cut a long story short, all I have to say is: "Huh? What on earth are you trying to tell me?"
Let's get back on topic. This pointless bickering back and forth isn't necessary.
