Ray Fillet, or Man Ray, whatever you wanna call him, was in the Archie comic run. I can't remember if he was ever in the cartoon. Venus isn't gonna be in any official-Mirage-approved projects (though I have a PLAN), and there's a pretty good chance Ray won't be either.

Peter Laird has promised, that Venus wont ever appear again in any official TMNT product. And thats a good thing.

Venus was such a stupid idea!

Man Ray and his fellow Mutanimals were awesome characters, and alot of them made it to the cartoon show! I've written a fic about them. If you would like to read it, go to http://members.aol.com/Jephael/tmntadv_74.html

Many archie character made their way to the cartoon, but they were much much better in archie. Slash for example.

He looked different than in the comics tho.

You're off by an issue there, PWDESAI. His first appearance was #5, and #4 was Part 2 of "The Incredible Shrinking Turtles"

i never knew any of that.
I think the next mutation tv show was a little too, well, i dunno how to put it, confusing. But i do like the idea of having a female ninja turtle. Does anyone have pictures of Ray in the Archie comic?and another question:Is there and othere regulars that help the ninja turtles(Kinda like how knuckles helps out Sonic from time to time) thanks.

Ray

a female mutant turtle is a complete mockery and contradiction of the ninja turtles mythology.

the whole POINT of the tmnt saga is that they are four teenage brothers trying to grow up and come of age in a world where nobody accepts them, and they are more or less completely alone. They arent SUPPOSED to have romantic relationships or the possibility of children. It's like an alone in the universe kinda thing.... and coming to terms with that...... Venus just ****s that all up.

rayfillet101
11-19-2002, 01:07 PM
so are u tring to say that there should only be four mutant turtles in te world?Im not sure if i understand. All i know is everyone hates Venus for one reson or another.

heretic888
11-19-2002, 01:09 PM
i think what you dont understand what im trying to say is that is WHY Eastman and Laird NEVER gave the tmnt ANY romantic involvements in the comics. its supposed to be a coming of age story for four brothers that are completely ostracized from the rest of the world.... and coming to find their place in that world.

Ray Fillet topic:
Check the official site, he's got a profile up there: http://www.ninjaturtles.com/
And, at least in the Archie comics, the Mutanimals, which included Ray, sometimes helped the Turtles. I'm not well versed in TMNTA lore.

Venus topic:
Yes, I agree on some of those points. Venus shouldn't have entered the Mirage TMNT universe, but I think she was fine just where she was. But just because she was there did NOT mean there was an automatic chance of romance or children. They could have easily made her and/or the guys sterile. A tragic irony. They could have easily made it a strictly sibling relationship. I agree, I don't want to see romance in the TMNT comics. That's why I read fan fiction.

Peter was afraid Venus would ruin the turtles' underlying theme of loneliness. But as head writer, doesn't he have complete control over what the characters do? It would be his choice about what would happen between tham. And I notice the guys aren't exactly unaccepted and alone in the new series. But I don't disagree with him getting rid of her. It was his method I frown upon. He should have sent her back to China, or even killing her off would have been better.

rayfillet101

I'm not saying if there was a girl rtle the tmnt would go gaagaa over her.A little diversity wouldn't hurt anything. She could be a long lost sister, and that would just be wrong to have a crush on her!

Shellfox
11-19-2002, 01:17 PM
true in the short run the guys are usually alone, but in the furtre they are almost all ways excepted, so them being alone for the rest of their lives is hard to believe, so in a way its implied that they could find love, but its that time that we rarley see

look thre hould be no fifth turtle espeicially from japan, considering tgri(or whatevere it is) was an american company, and how did venus get magic?

rayfillet101
11-19-2002, 01:21 PM
Im not nesseceraly talking about love... Im talking about friendship. How many girls in the tmnt universe do you know of?I only know two April and Irma.I admit im not the smartest prson when it comes to the turtles. I just think it would be cool to have a female turtle in one of the series(cartoon or comic). Im not saying they need her to bring rmance to the comic, maybe alot of people could relate to her,I dont know!

*counts off points on her fingers* Venus is from China. She was in the same glass jar as the others, and was mutated by the same ooze. She was then washed away and taken in by a Chinese mystic visiting America who took her back to China and raised her, teaching her magic. When he died, she came to America to save Splinter from the same dragon creatures who killed her master. Having no where else to go, she stayed with the other turtles.

But that's JUST within TNM universe. Not Mirage, or any other universe (as much as some love to mix and match.)

Karpo_007

And just to make it clear, Peter Laird had almost nothing to do with Next mutation. It was Eastman who worked on it.

Yes, but that symbolizes another stage in their growth, in which they have begun to find their place in the world. Remember that they are no longer teenagers, and the original series was basically a commentary on teenage growth. The new volume 4 therefore deals with another stage of growth.

I think Laird handled the Venus issue quite well. Considering that the next mutation was cancelled, and that was the ONLY major tmnt medium she appeared, simply never referring to her character again was probably the most appropriate choice.

Heretic, one word: COPE.

if that is supposed to be some attempt at a stab, it is not appreciated.

I'm not saying if there was a girl rtle the tmnt would go gaagaa over her.A little diversity wouldn't hurt anything. She could be a long lost sister, and that would just be wrong to have a crush on her!

The original Venus character was consciously created so that she is not really their sister and so the tmnt could have a relationship with her. This was implied once when she spoke with Leo.

Besides, in their teenage years at least, the tmnt are supposed to be the only ones of thier kind. There is a whole mythology and psychology behind this. Later on, the tmnt begin to find their place in the world a bit more and this may change.

true in the short run the guys are usually alone, but in the furtre they are almost all ways excepted, so them being alone for the rest of their lives is hard to believe, so in a way its implied that they could find love, but its that time that we rarley see

Like i said, this applies mostly to their teenage lives. The original story was a commentary on the isolation and ostracization teenagers feel (among other things). Once they have matured, this mythos may indeed change (just as you said) but Venus herself is just a stupid character.

Im not nesseceraly talking about love... Im talking about friendship. How many girls in the tmnt universe do you know of?I only know two April and Irma.I admit im not the smartest prson when it comes to the turtles. If what you are talking about is friendship, then a female turtle is not needed. Human friends would amply suffice. The point of the story during their teens was to grow up knowing you are along and the only one of your kind with no hope of romantic connection or ever having a child. The tmnt had to come to terms with that. Once they mature a bit, the mythos and theme may change a little... but not during their teen years.

The final fact. Fox ordered a female turtle, mirage had to come up with one. Show was crap, venus was crap, and neither will be seen again.

I think Laird handled the Venus issue quite well. Considering that the next mutation was cancelled, and that was the ONLY major tmnt medium she appeared, simply never referring to her character again was probably the most appropriate choice.
She was also an important character on the Official site. She had a big role in the ongoing "TMNT Letters". She had her own column for awhile, even after TNM was cancelled. And they still have sections of the site for TNM. If it had only been a profile that disappeared, I would have been fine. But she's a character in the Letters, then she just disappeared. She's helping them fight the Rat King, then *poof* I realize Laird himself does not write those Letters, but he must know how sloppy the whole thing was.

The original Venus character was consciously created so that she is not really their sister and so the tmnt could have a relationship with her. This was implied once when she spoke with Leo.
A scene that I couldn't stand, BTW. But face it, the whole show was stupid. It was SABAN. They required a female character, so Venus was created. I notice that very few fans objected to Ninjara, Mezcal, Lotus Blossom, Kala, Mona Lisa, Renet, Jhanna, Pimiko, or any of the Turtle's other potential love intrests.

Karpo_007
11-19-2002, 02:32 PM
This is something i've said many times before, but even without venus, Next mutation wouldnt have been any better.

Kali
11-19-2002, 02:44 PM
No, it wouldn't have. But it's not fair to blame a single character for "the downfall of the TMNT", which is what many fans do.

Karpo_007
11-19-2002, 02:57 PM
If people need someone to blame, blame Saban.

Shellfox
11-19-2002, 06:28 PM
I've defended her time and again and I'll do so now, Yes I like Venus. Ok so in the show she wasn't great, but that was the show not her, no one in the show was all that great. The concept of Venus is a good one, a fifth turtle simalar but diffrent from the boys, with magic and knowledge they don't understand. Look at a lot of the fanfics that came out at that point with venus in them, most are quite good and bring her to the level they should have been if the right people were handling the show.

yeah Mona Lisa, she was a salamander/Human mutant with what 1 ep under her belt

Wish Dreadmon and Jagwar could have appeared on the show, but given how the other Mutanals were done I dought the team would form.
Speaking of which do you thinkLeatherhead may appear in the new show?

Yeah, since Leatherhead was a Mirage creation, there's a good chance he'll appear.

And the never ending debate rages on....

To be honest... I also liked the idea the TMNT weren't meant to reproduce (or clone themselves, whatever). But the idea of throwing another male or female turtle in the mix doesn't irk me. I thought the concept o Venus was okay. For there to be Venus, is like the cartoons and the Archies series to come up with other randomly appearing mutants.

In fact... if it wasn't for Saban, I'm sure Venus's introduction would have gone much smoother. And that the producers would have heard out the creators wishes and made Venus like a long lost sister (or a warrior that's sworn to lifelong cellibacity). Just cause there's a female appearing out of nowhere doesn't ALWAYS mean someones gonna get married, buy a house, have kids and live happily ever after. Stupid Hollywood ideologies.

Well i dont see the point in arguing this, Next mutation is never coming back and neither is Venus. And by the way, in archie, i dont remember the issue number, April turned into a turtle. She turned back in the end but the point is there was a female turtle in archie.

It was a normal issue i think. Probably one of the later one. April broke in to some science lab, and got caught. Then they used her as a guinea pig of mutagen and she changed into a turtle. In the end they got anti mutagen, april gave it to splinter, but splinter threw the ooze on April.

It wasn't a special, atleast here in Finland. If i remember right, on the cover was a Turtle who was in a shadow, I mean black. I cant remember those aliens names, but they ran the science lab. There was also somebody else muataed, a female scientist. She mutated in to a Squirel. She stayed that way.

I believe they Mirage co-produced the Archie series. Infact, there was actually an ad for TMNT Adventures in the back of Mirage Vol. 1 #39.

As for Vol. 2, Mirage Publishing has all 13 issues of it that you can mail order.
