I know this has been discussed before, but I was just watching "Turtle Tracks" again and she really does look hideous in that yellow jumpsuit. I know it was the 80s where bad fashion regined supreme, but I have to wonder what possed them to put poor April in such a bad outfit.
Is anyone able to list every episode/time where she is wearing something else besides that jumpsuit? I know that in April's Fool she wears a lavish ballgown but even that is in yellow (which really, really isn't her colour). I recall an episode where she was wearing a pastal purple type colour top it actually suited her...
At least they dressed her better in the movies.

Just what you say - the fashion. At least a half of female pop singers wore jumpsuits like that in the 80s. And why this eye-killing yellow? Maybe because red or black jumpsuit would be far too hot and sexy for the children show and green was reserved for turtles. Besides, every character in TMNT had his or her own unique colour (as far as it was possible), so he/she could be easily spotted and recognized. Poor April received yellow

Shredder's Mom - she wears a tank top because of how hot the weather is.
New York's Shiniest- she is wearing different clothes when she gets robbed, and at
the end of the episode.
Once Upon a Time Machine- future April wears a purple jumpsuit or something...
April Fool- already mentioned.
Leatherhead Terror of the Swamp- for a minute she is in a tank top and shorts... when
the Turtles arrive she changes into the beautiful yellow jumpsuit.
The Gang's All Here- April dresses up as a "gang member" with a leather jacket and spiky hair. She's technically still wearing her yellow jumpsuit under it though.
Shredderville- It's an alternate reality, but she is one of Bebop and Rocksteady's harem girls, and not a reporter.
Michalangelo, the Sacred Turtle- doesn't she dress up in some egyptian outfit?
Europe episodes- I think there are a few here, but I don't remember which ones.
season 8 through 10- every episode she is in. Finally, she has an outfit change!
there is also a 1989 episode where she is in pajamas or something and Burne calls her and wakes her up.. Burne's Blues maybe?
Sorry if any of these are wrong, this is all from memory and I haven't seen these episodes in years...

At least is showcased her figure. April did look stunning in a gown, but those tight pants don't hurt either.

Probably so it would be easier on the animators if she wore the same, simple clothing in practically every episode. Same reason Bart Simpson always wears an orange shirt and blue shorts.
Heck!!! I remeber in the eighties my sister made a comment about how April's Clothes were crap!!!

Her jump suit is based on the jump suit she's wearing when she makes her first appearance in the Mirage TMNT comics. Only in the Graphic novels of the Mirage comics, her jump suit is blue.

All cartoon characters used to wear the same clothes ALL the time. The characters in TMNT like April and all the Channel Six guys...(vernon with his pink shirts....sheesh...), but lots of other cartoons like Spider-man TAS had Peter wear the same clothes throughout the same season. An older show that's a classic example is Scooby Doo: Daphne, Velma, Fred, Shaggy, etc...virtually every cartoon did.
Nowadays you don't see that as much any more, which is good because that always annoyed me. Even in the New Scooby Doo show they wear different clothes!

Yellow is the the colour representing jealousy and betrayal...
Best wishes,

I thought green was jealousy? I actually do a lot of work with color and I’ve found yellow's usually associated with happiness and joy, vitality, curiosity, and communication. Not that that’s what it means everywhere, these associations change from region to region.
Actually, I think it's a very good color for April's personality (as far as the cartoon goes), it just doesn't go with her natural coloring very well. The sheer amount of bright, pure yellow is overwhelming.
I guess the suit would have been easier on the eyes if it were blue., Sky blue. :)

Yes, You're right. The colour of the Sun, light, joy etc. I will not oppose it :|
But for instance, in some European countries yellow flowers given to someone represent jealousy. And I am not pretty sure, but wasn't the yellow chosen by painters throughout the centuries to colour Judas Iscariot's robes (the apostle who betrayed Jesus Christ)?
:ohwell: Yeah I see my stupidity now. TMNT watchers usually associate better the colour of yellow with sun and vitality and not with Judas Iscariot robes or yellow tulips. But I'm untypical TMNT watcher who desperately tries to find cultural references almost everywhere. And that's why many people think I'm losing my time for watching crappy films.
I'll better get back to work.

Psh, are you kidding!? Take a good hard look at this site, there are cultural references jumping down your throat!
But that thing about Judas is awesome. I didn't know that. Now I do. And I'm not even in school!

Could you precise which site - technodrome.com?

You don't need to be in school to gain knowledge. In fact, schools dissuade people from striving for intelectual development... or at least some of them.
Yeah Pizza Power - old time April is sexy, but new one is also attractive. Nevertheless the old one seems to be definitely more aware of that :D

Really? Wow, I've never heard of that interpretation. I know I have an article somewhere on flower meanings although I doubt it’s a popular practice nowadays (outside roses).

Four Musketurtles she was wearing a dress. For some reason I remember the dress caused her to get stuck on something during the episode. Maybe that's why she always went with the reliable jump suit. :)

My opinion on the Yellow Suit... honestly, I like the color yellow; it's my favorite color in fact (I gave Seurat a white bandana rather than yellow, though, for two reasons: the shades of yellow I tried didn't seem to look right, and when they did look right, they looked either too much like Michelangelo or too much like MNT Gaiden's Renoir. I wound up picking white, since the only other white-bandana'ed turtle had blue - or should I say Azure? - skin, so there'd be no mix-ups. But I digress...). I think the color yellow served some pretty good purposes, though, for April. It made her stick out more, for one thing. As previously stated, all the Turtles got their own colors, and in a way, April has her own color (Perhaps she, rather than that kid Zack, should really be called the fifth turtle!), and it sticks out from the green better. I also agree with the statement that any other color might be a bit too sexy-looking for a kid's show (Imagine April's outfit in black... no way would they show that on children's programming. Okay, you can stop imagining April in black, now. Seriously, stop it. Hello? Anyone home...?).
Also, think of it this way; most reporters you see on TV wear bland, figure-hiding, professional-looking suits. Would April be better off in such an outfit? I doubt it.
I can't help but wonder what such an outfit would look like in real-life. Would it get the same reaction as we have to the cartoon version? Would the material it's made of make a difference? Would male viewers not care as much depending on how tight the outfit was? I think I know the answer to that last one, but otherwise, I'm not so sure. I will confess, I don't know much about fashion.

The continuous yellow jumpsuit fetish April had i fuss about little. Although, you question yourself for someone with a really good job, so why wear something like a suit? She did look better in the "April Fool" episode dressed as a princess, dressing in that yellow jumpsuit all the time is not that classy with her cleavage showing. Too much of that in real life makes you look like a bit of a slut.
<<Here's the hottest April, me thinks.

I'm a fan of the original outfit. While I did kinda get tired of seeing it episode to episode I have to admit I was mesmorized by her cleavage.

uh, I never noticed Aprils cleavage. That jump suit was really unfeminie on her, I liked the outfit she wore during the red sky arc of the series. Although a pair of jeans would have looked infinatly better on her than that mustard yellow pants...such bad taste
