Which should I buy?

Today I went to the comic store in search of Devil May Cry. I got news that Dream Wave is out of buiness and all my hopes in getting DMC comics lie in random E-bay auctions. I left the store and came back in remembering that the TMNT had a new comic series. I bought 4 issues. Two from Tales Of TMNT (Issues #5 and 6) and Two from the regular story line (Issues #19 and 20). I loved reading them and I am now intrested in buying them evey month! But I want to catch up before I start buying anymore new ones. I was wondering which one I should catch up on first. I was assuming Tales Of TMNT because it would cost less money but that isnt as far so I was maybe thinking I should get caught up on the regular series first because the issues are older and maybe be harder to get. I like the art in Tales Of TMNT but the normal ones are longer. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
BTW I love how th eold Archie guy is back doing comics it's so awesome. The only problem I had was Tales Of TMNT seemed really centered on Leo, which isnt bad but I hope they do more with the other turtles

I do collect both, but myself I prefer the regular series more. Also I have been noticing that the issues are becoming harder to find (I've cleared most of my shops out) since not so many get shipped out. I am really loving the storyline going on in this volume though, it's just like seeing the present cartoon series years later. Alot is different and some things will never make it onto the TV show no matter how long it's on, but I do prefer the regular book over Tales right now. I would suggest getting that one caught up first.

Tales is great, but it is still a newer book and will probably be easier to find all the issues. Either way you go I can tell you that neither book will dissapoint in the long run. Plus PL brought back Turtle Tracks (with actual good questions,answers and info) which is great.

I am also a huge Archie Universe fan of the TMNT, so I hope you think my advice is sound when reading a few more issues. I would also suggest getting #'s 10 and 11 first, very well done on both Lawson and Laird's parts.

Ill go back today and dig through the back issue bins. If I came across any Dreamwave I think I might buy them because I loved the art in those so much. Thank You for the advice I wasnt sure how hard the regular series was to find

Well Dreamwave was a good series too and I loved Lesean's Turtles, but you are going to be dissapointed at issue like 7 when you realize there are no more. At least with the two other series they are still in production and from what I can tell going strong. Plus you have plenty of back storyline to catch up on.

But if you have the chance and cash buy all three up if you can, especially the new issues as they come out, show the support so mothing happens to cancel it. Comics are having a resurgence, but I think a lot of old TMNT fans have overlooked them this time when reimmersing themselves into comics.

I will say that both in production books right now are just great. But personally I really love Lawson's work on vol.4. He does a lot of big and full page panels usually throughout the book. And I bet Laird just sees them and says well they don't need any captions. They just put it across that well. Plus with Laird writing the storylines you can't go wrong, they are his creation so who knows them better? But honestly if you can spare the extra 3 bucks a month I would suggest keeping up with each of them.

And hey Cormano, I'll keep an eye out for #2 for ya, I have a couple upcoming comic shows and they tend to be found on the dollar bins.

i would say get Vol. 4 since its ongoing, and then catch up on Tales, since its storys of whats happened over 10 years...also the dreamwave ones, i was impressed by the artwork, and Lesean is a cool guy(i got a peek at the unreleased 8th issue at a Comicon last summer, looked awsome) but issues, 5,6,and 7 were the best since they had their own story arc's the first 4 were based off early TMNT episodes but were from different points of view, but still decent...but all in all, id say finish your volume 4 first and then Tales. another hint is, keep checking ebay a lot, cause i see a bunch of TMNT comic lots that have issues from all 3 of those lines, and you get em at really good bargains i seen one for the whole vol. 4 one time for i think 20 bucks, that was like 1.25 a comic(at the time since there were only 18 out then)

Actually yeah ebay does seem to have some cheap lots if you look closely. I've actually been really lucky with Comic Shows too. I've found a lot of the earlier vol. 4 and Dreamwaves for a buck if you can deal with looking through everything. By the time I had found the TMNT I had like 40 other comics I wanted. Good luck!

yeh, i got issues 5-21 of volume 1 off ebay for 10 bucks in a lot, came out to be about 15 i think with s&h...only thing i hate sometimes on ebay is people try n sell issue 1 of the archie series as if its the mirage one and try selling it for like 5-8 bucks, i bought that comic at a local store for 25 cents, lmao

I would get Vol 4 first, I like Tales also but something... may be happening soon that could be interesting in vol 4. Also u will get caught up in their lives what exactly has happened. Tales is supposed to be monthly now and Vol 4 is still bi monthly btw.

www.ninjaturtles.com has the back issues in the buy stuff section for anyone who has trouble finding issues. I got 1-9 when I started collecting them from there. Also any one who has not read the original comics vol 1, I cant reccommend them enough issues 1-12 City at war, Return to New York along with a lot of other books in vol 1 are the best I have read. I just started reading comics almost a year and a half ago, I have most of vol 1,2 all of 4 and Tales among tones of specials TMNT are my fav, but I am liking the Spider-man books to, Amazing, Marvel Knights and Ultimate Spider-man which I am caught up on :)

Agian I would get caught up on vol 4 and u could pick up the odd Tales book they are all pretty good, but Vol 4 is more of a continous story with several plot lines going at once, where tales is bascally on book contains a full story. Although one was a 2 part which was pretty sweet imo.

I went to my local shop by my Dad's house and I scored big time! I got every issue I needed almost. I now only need
Tales #2 and TMNT issues 3-6 and 12-17

I also might need Issue #8 for Tales if its out yet but I havnt seen it. Though the ad says it came out in Febuary. Does anyone else have it? I really want! Its called Virus and its about Leatherhead and Raph.....I must have it!!

Oh oh to top it all off I found one DMC comic! Oh I only need 3 more ^_^ I also found a issue of the DW TMNT series. I love the art it's so awesome

I actually got lucky today too. MY comic shop had a huge sale and I got another Mirage Volume 4 #1 for 50% off cover. Not too bad and I wanted one unread. If I find any good ones tomorrow for cheap off your list SPit I'll pick them up. As for Tales #8 no I don't think it has been released. It would be in my comic box if so. SHould be out soon though, sometimes the books get out a little late, but it's always worth it. Congrats on the big haul todayt oo. Don't you just love a huge comic haul like that? Now get ready for your neck to hurt, lol.

Edit: Today I found issues 17 and 2-4 of the Dreamwave series. I need #1 and umm how ever many others from the Dreamwave series and then the rest on my list but #17 wooo

Edit 2: I just ordered every issue I was missing off Mile High Comics so hopefully they can get them all. I just need DMC issue #4

How can a comic book retailer, a personal fan of Usagi Yojimbo, not realize TMNT has a newer vol out?? I should check to see if he's ordering any for his store inventory.
But i'm missing a couple issues now, like Tales of the TMNT 1 and 2...

Get them off Milehigh comics. That's what I did! Great service really fast and everything. And they have alot in stock

If you haven't already caught up on both, or if anyone else is thinking which book to start on, start with volume 4 for one simple reason. It is an ongoing story with no graphic novels or flashbacks or little paragraphs to summarize what has happened. If you start with a later issue chances are you'll be like: "wtf where did raph get the lizardy? omg 0.0" but tales can be read as solo issues and that way if you're missing a few you can still enjoy them without reading past issues that you missed (minus the 2 parters).
