This week I went nuts with buying comics, just because I havent been lately.

I snagged:

Spider-Man : Disassembled (Was oddly boring, I shoulda just stuck with Avengers.)
Wolverine: The End (The sequel, or Bookend to Origin. I loved Origin, one of my top Wolverine stories. This just wasn't up to par. But it was still bloody and great.)
Teen Titans: A Kid's Game (I wanted to despise this book, because of what happened to Impulse, and so on, but I loved it. Probably the best Titans/Young Justice stories since Sins Of Youth)
Venom Vs. Carnage (The art is effin' amazing, a mix between sketched line art, and painting, and computer graphics mixed in. Amazing. Venom and Carnage have never looked as good as they do in this. It ends on a cliff hanger, and says "See Toxin in his new series" did that ever go anywhere?)

So what've you guys bought lately?

Oh man, the last graphic novel I bought was like...Naruto volume 1, and it sucked. That was almost a year ago.

If we're talking graphic novels and trade paperbacks, then I buy a LOT.

I picked up Hellblazer: Setting Sun today. Pretty good. I was a bit disappointed with Damnation's Flame, mostly because I read it after Dangerous Habits and that's gotta be th best John Constantine story ever written.

Setting Sun is a collection of short, 1 issue-long stories of macbre that involve Constantine in some way. Quite good.

That must've been Blacksad volume something. It was a birthday gift for my favourite brother. Considering that I've only got one and a half brothers, the choice was rather easy :D

I got like... InuYasha vol. 10 a while ago.. you see.. I don't really usually buy the stuff, I just hang out at the book store and read it. Before that, I got the April Shonen Jump issue.

The most recent graphic novel I purchased was Avegers: Disassembled. I know a lot of fans hated how Bendis treated the characters, but I was curious about how the events played out because I'm a fan of the New Avengers.

As for manga, I recently bought Battle Royale Vol. 11 (if you haven't been reading this... the violence and characterization goes beyond what the movie offered; pretty sweet) and Suikoden III Vol. 5 (I'm a big fan of the videogame series).

I really wanted to get the Avengers trade, is it worth it? I know they spliced in old like 60s pages of the comic....why?

Honestly, I thought it was a good read. I can see why a lot of fans were upset, though. Many characters dropped like flies without much fanfare (ie "a hero's death"). I just thought all of that added to the panic and fear. The Avengers were being hit from all sides, but they had no idea who or what was behind these brutal attacks. As for the spliced pages... (don't read if you don't want to know about the person behind the attacks)

The spliced pages were from the issue where Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver first joined the Avengers. The pages show up after all the death and destruction ends, and I think it acts as a memory of the good ol' days. I also believe that it's sort of a tribute to the Scarlet Witch, showing how unsure, yet honored she was to be joining the team. Kinda gives the sense of "innocence lost" after all the destruction she was responsible for.

I nabbed:

- Ultimate X-Men Vol. 10
- Gambit. (Vol. 4.) TPB #1

The return of Gambit is pretty cool even if he looks stupid and the character has been changed a bit. I still don't like how in his first appearance Hammerhead refers to his shameful past with Nathaniel Essex and yet when Nathaniel Essex makes an appearance in the Tempest arc he was apparently just a nerdy guy that only recently became Mr Sinister.

The Gambit mini-series is okay. I think the first story took a bit long (6 issues). While the new story arc was okay, Gambit blowing up zombies is sweet (if in 'violation' of his inability to charge organic objects). Shame it's being canned after #12, but that story looks cool: stealing an incriminating video from the x-men to save his own hide.

Hey, this thread exists so I don't have to start a new one!

I buy GNs and collections more than single issues these days-- what's everybody else picked up lately?

Tonight I got clicky and ordered:
Complete Concrete by Paul Chadwickhttp://images.darkhorse.com/covers/300/c/ccon.jpgI loved this when I read it from the library years ago, happy to add it to the shelves for $20. Fantastically realistic depiction of a guy turned into a giant rock man.
The Puma Blues Book One: Watch That Man by Stephen Murphyhttp://comicbookdb.com/graphics/comic_graphics/1/322/161661_20090206234016_large.jpg
An under-rated gem from a TMNT regular-- $6.50?! Sold.
Zot!: The Complete Black and White Collection: 1987-1991 TPB by Scott McCloudhttp://www.scottmccloud.com/2-print/4-zot/zot-book.gif
I have heard much praise for Zot! over the years, now I'll have 576 pages of Zot! for $3.50 to see for myself.

So there's what I'll be reading to start off my summer. :D

Anyone else?

Zot! is awesome. You're gonna love it :) Where are you picking these up for those prices? lol nice work.

Since the used section opened up at the comic store I've been buying graphic novels like crazy. Last one I picked up was The Light.

http://images.tfaw.com/covers_tfaw/200/oc/oct100471.jpg

It was actually a pretty cool little story. It's a very quick read though. Kinda like a zombie movie with a bit more supernatural twist, without getting supernatural... if that makes any sense lol.

I've been loving Image Comics the last two years. My friend and I are going to be pitching our comic to Image in the next week or two. Wish us luck!

I search really hard and the internet rewards me. ;) I suppose you could tack another $2-3 per book on when shipping's factored in, but it's still a crazy amount of pages for $35. ;)

I recall some positive chatter on another forum about The Light when it was coming out in singles, but haven't gotten around to giving it a look. Sounds like it'd appeal to me.

Awesome, Good luck! I'd like to hear/see more.

Ah, right on. You wrote $3.50 originally by the way :P But still a nice find regardless! I've been on the fence about trying Concrete. Maybe I'll give it a go.

As for the pitch, as you probably guessed it involves the characters in my signature. Its a steampunk story but I wont say/show any more until after the pitch is resolved. Thanks for the interest though ;)

Recently picked up and am enjoying The Dylan Dog Case Files. $16.50 for like...a buttload (http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/buttload.html) of pages. 680 according to Amazon. Coolest comic I've read in a long while.

Other than that, nabbed some $5 books from Panel to Panel.

Saga of the Swamp Thing V.2
Vampirella Master Series V.2
Johnny Boo: The Best Little Ghost in the World
Usagi Yojimbo V.23
The Crow
Medieval Spawn/Witchblade
Preacher V.2

Haven't read any of it yet. Kinda weird owning volume twos of stuff I don't have volume ones of. :p If I like 'em enough I suppose I'll track down the first volumes. Flipped through The Crow and kinda dig the art style, especially since the method of drawing varies from page to page.

Prior to these, I picked up some additional EC Archives books a few weeks ago. Still kinda pissed about the "remastered" (moar liek rebastard, amirite?) coloring, but I can sort of overlook that. Eventually (when I have money) I'll probably track down some of the earlier reprints/collections. Dunno if there are any good ones with the original colors, but it might be kinda cool to own the black and white hardcover reprints.

Oh, I did get Zot! for $3.50-- ~$35 was the cost with shipping for all three books. ;)

Aaaand that one lands in my shopping future. :P I'll need to tell my friend who remembers Dylan Dog fondly from his childhood in Croatia that this book exists. I'm glad to hear a large amount of issues have been translated into English. I love high page counts!

Saga of the Swamp Thing V.2
...
Preacher V.2

I can vouch for both of these, though I'd advise starting with vol.1 of Preacher-- if you're not easily offended as your predilection for EC Archives would indicate, Preacher is awesome soup. I recently started rereading the series and it's amazing how much happens in these over the course of 80-odd issues.

Hrmm, I really must pick up the rest of Ex Machina and Y The Last Man.

Bought it but not read it yet:

Kingdom Come and Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl.

I still have a few others I've not made it to, one is a Vertigo noir thriller that's part prose, part comic.

Kingdom Come and Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl.

Kingdom Come is my favorite superhero story of all time. Its the only book I have in Absolute edition. I know i'm really in the minority, but something about the story makes it extra special to me.

Powers is pretty good too. WKRG is the only volume I've read but I'd be down for continuing.

I just read Bad Kids Go To Hell. I thought it had some cool twists at the end but overall I wasnt exactly thrilled. Lucky them that its being turned into a live action movie. I'm not sure I would have optioned it but hey I'm not a movie studio so what do I know.

Blacksad hardcover, love that comic.

Yes, yes, yes.

I've read the first two POWERS TPBs and I too would read more of the series, but just haven't done so.

I've got my eye out for a good price for the two seasons of Ed Brubaker's SLEEPER as well.

Oh yes, and I ordered this bit of fanciness this morning: http://tinyurl.com/3w8t72bhttp://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/100_1013.jpg

What is that? Some sorta victorian times Batman? Spring Heeled Jack? Looks pretty awesome, whatever it is.

I downloaded the first chapter or so of Scott Pilgrim onto my new toy, an iPhone 4. Its pretty cool so far, but I got no money to get more until I get paid, at the end've the month. Looking forward to it!

Artist is David Hitchcock-- do a Google Image search for "David Hitchcock" Batman for some fantastic art. I've got my eye out for a good price on the hardcover of his Springheeled Jack series, but it's pricey with a low print run.

Just read the first two volumes of Runaways and Niel Gaiman's Harlequin Valentine. Runaways looks like a pretty fun story and so far its being handled just right. I'll definitely keep reading! Harlequin is a little strange, as expected, but not bad for the 7 bucks I paid for.

RUNAWAYS is fantastic for the duration that BKV is writing it, but it just hasn't been as good since his departure-- yes, that's right, Joss Whedon was a drop in quality.

And my Concrete TPB didn't happen-- shop I ordered it from couldn't find it in inventory.

But I did receive Puma Blues vol.1 and found it's autographed by Murphy & Zulli. Woo.

Runaways is easily my favorite comic series ever. Just absolutely love it. And yea, Joss Whedon's short run sucked. Probably the worst writer to have worked on Runaways.

Anyway, I finally picked up the OOP Friday the 13th Vol.1 trade from Wildstorm. Loving it so far. Gotta track down vol. 2 now. Luckily, that one is still in print and should be easy to find. Also picked up Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits. Love me some John Constantine.

Having downloaded all the Scott Pilgrim books onto my iphone, I decided I wanted them in print also. So, when I got a £15 book token for my birthday, I got myself the first three books, in a buy two get one free sale. I f**kin' love Scott Pilgrim. Gone so far as to sowing (well, asking my sister to sow) an X-patch onto my parka :D

http://www.adhousebooks.com/books/images/cvrs/BOOKS/AD.SKYCOLL72.jpg http://www.adhousebooks.com/misc/images/cvrs/SDCC07PRINTJC.jpg
http://www.adhousebooks.com/books/skyscrapers.htmlObserving the isolated existence of an adolescent cat, his younger brother and their overactive imaginations in the American Heartland, Skyscrapers of the Midwest serves as an intimate chronicle of their stories of childhood hope, panic, and loss. Filled with belligerent cowboys, lumbering automaton deities, and wide-open spaces, this comic gives voice to a highly respected new creator in the field of sequential literature.

I'm gonna read the hell out of this!

Kingdom Come is awesome! I love it too. So if you're in the minority, you're not alone :twink:

I recently bought Usagi Yojimbo vol. 5: Lone Goat and Kid, and with Borders going out of business, I've been taking advantage of their clearance sales. So far I've gotten;
Batman: Dark Victory
Batman: Haunted Knight (I'm a sucker for anything by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale)
The Dark Knight Rises
Superman: Earth One
The Walking Dead vol. 7
and even tho it's not a tpb or a graphic novel per se, I got this baby - http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1172787234l/217111.jpg

Even tho money is kinda tight for me, I really want to hit Borders up again before they close up for good, especially now that everything is around 50-70% off.

Most recent acquisitions?

Red Hood: Lost Days
Under the Red Hood (the recent reprint of the full arc)

I've never read either of these stories (I've seen the Red Hood animated film though). I'm just waiting on the new reprint of Death in the Family in the next month or so, and then I'm going to read all three in succession.
