I got sick of my PS2...it stopped playing PS1 games. It took longer to load then it used to. It froze more then it used to. It wouldnt load some PS2 games. So I got mad at it and before throwing it onto the floor in anger I took a look at the fan. It was so dirty and nasty. I tried cleaning it from the outside but that would not do. So I cracked that baby open and gave it a nice deep cleaning. My PS2 had dust in places I wouldnt imagine ever getting dusty. My fan was caked in dust as well as my laser. And I keep this thing in a pretty good place where we dont have alota dust. Anyways I put it back togther, kinda got scared I would do it wrong but I actually did it right!, and I popped in a PS2 game to test it. The game loaded like my PS2 was brand new. Then I did the ultimate test, I stuck in a PS1 game, several actually, and they all worked! I couldnt believe it. Cleaning out the inside of the thing made that big of a difference. So if you PS2 is actin gup dont be afraid to open it and clean it. It's really worth it espcially if your warranty is up

I discovered this a few months ago, now I always keep some air duster in the house.

Why didn't Sony just put a dust screen over the fan to save their users the trouble...?
Great tip for some PS2 gamers on here though *thumbs up*.

Something like that happened to my Dreamcast. Design flaw. The air flow goes right by the power supply to the motherboard and gunks up the metal prongs killing power to the system. Had to crack her open and clean it. Now it's good as new. This must be a similar problem.

Aside from the fact that your Shift-key seems to be stuck, that was spam.
Anyways, there's not much you can do wrong. The fan is easily accessible and there really isn't a lot you can do wrong. I'm sure our very own Spitfire can give you details if you want to, because there might be slight changes in our european PS2-design and you PS2.

Well my PS2 isnt under warrenty anymore so busting it open wasnt a problem. And dont worry about breaking it! It's actually rather sturdy on the inside. Just dont lose any screws O_O

i have just got repaired my ps2.
bought it in 2001 and in march it went slowly and it almost every 5 min stopped in the middle of a game and take long breaks and the loading and starting all over again.and now the ps2 is normal again, but it cost me alot of money, i think that with those money i could instead bought a nintendo game cube. well if it goes crazy and slow again im not going to do anything with it.
anyway it aint that long until ps3 hits the road.

Ive tried cracking my PS2 open, but im really scared of breaking it. so i just make sure to dust it once a week.
I cracked open my PS2 so I could clean it, and I ended up breaking something off the circuit board. After that, it wouldn't work at all. I decided to buy a new PS2 and TRASH THE F*CK out of the broken one. Let's just say I used a baseball bat.

That's just beautiful. It sounds a lot like the story of my first Gameboy. :D

Oh yes. For the Gamecube, I'm blowing it up. Literally. Explosives and everything. I'm going all out and filming it.

Wait, wait... Your GC AND your PS2 are broken??? So... what do you do all day long?!
No, no. I broke my PS2 a while back. I already have a new one. The Gamecube I'm blowing the hell up when the Revolution releases. And now that I think about it, I should blow up my Xbox, too, once I get 360.

I still have my PS2 since the day it came out.
But right now, it sometimes gets mess up by the screen freezing on me.
I think I have to clean it, but I don't want to make it worse by cleaning it. :tsweatdr:
Well doesn't matter because I have another just in case and the PS3 is coming next year. :ohwell:
