OO.. yah, Ninjatron told us of this rumor on another forum (along with his quiet prayer that he is trying to get a job there). I love DreamWave's work on the Transformers series as well, so I can't wait to see what the TMNT comic would be like if they do go through with the project. :tanime

It is said to be based on the new show. So probably kiddiefied version of early mirage comics.

11-25-2002, 01:22 PM
id like to see a continuation of the archie comics series, personally....
Karpo_007
11-25-2002, 01:27 PM
I used to like it when i was a kid, own most of them too. But they are gone now, maybe few issues here and there.
heretic888
11-25-2002, 01:30 PM
it got really, really good near the end of the series.
what do you mean by a few issues here or there??? have they made any since it was cancelled??
Karpo_007
11-25-2002, 01:41 PM
No, I mean that most of my archie comics are missing or totally gone.

This could the be the connected to the rumor Rich Johnston talked about a month or two ago. Y'know, where he said that Peter David would be the writer and stuff. PAD rocks and I love it if he wrote a comic version of the new show. :D Of course, I don't know how much of this is true. I mean, this did come for Rich Johnston and as far as I know PAD doesn't have any sort of relationship with Dreamwave.

I've said it ever place I hear this IF this is real I hope they do a TMNT/TF cross over later. Slim I know, and their are 2 TF realities they could go with but I'd be happy either way. Personnaly a TMNT/Armada with Raph and Casey beating up the kids on principal would be nice.
Given what I've seen of dreamwave they'll probly kick up the series a noch or 2 when it goes comic, hell they let megs kill humans so they shouldn't have any quips about mutants killing humans

Bring Back The Archie Series, that would rock but also bring back the Mighty Mutanimals.
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 09:30 AM
Well if the rumors are true, it wont be a second archie series. It's said to be based on the new show so it will most probably be kiddiefied Mirage.
heretic888

just out of curiosity have you read any of the Dream Waves books, kiddiyfied they aren't so regardless of the show the book will be more what you seem to want, but with in my opinion amazing art
heretic888
11-26-2002, 12:23 PM
we'll see. personally, i think the mirage tmnt book would be better if pete was penciling it... oh well.
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 12:29 PM
My personal favorite is Eastman, Laird is really good too. I do like Lawssons style, he can really draw the turtles, but he should practise on humans.
And if the new comic wont be kiddiefied, it might be pretty good. But why not just re-print the original ones? Even if it's diffrent, I might like it. I currently read both, Amazing Spider-man and Ultimate-spiderman. Sounds to me the new TMNT could be something like that.
heretic888
11-26-2002, 12:36 PM
could be....
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 12:42 PM
Ultimate Spider-man took the concept and brought it to present Day. It also changed few things like Green Goblin's origin.
If the new comic book would be somethin like that, it could be intresting.
heretic888
11-26-2002, 12:49 PM
it would be interesting if they did something like an "Ultimate TMNT" like that..... give them slighly different costumes and more 'modern' weapons.... maybe tweak the origin story a bit. You know, so it will be the same but different.....
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 12:50 PM
Yeah. They would be two diffrent Universes.
heretic888
11-26-2002, 12:52 PM
They should have Mike use something like a kusarifundo (three foot chain weapon with small weights on both ends) instead of nunchaku. Raph should maybe use combat knives instead, as well.

11-26-2002, 01:48 PM

Dreamwave artists aren't really that great, but their colorists should be put up on peadastals and worshipped. They could make anybody look good.
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 02:37 PM
The Black& white mirage style has grown on me, But TMNT works with color too. Either way is fine with me.
heretic888
11-26-2002, 02:41 PM
i love diversity. the more different styles the better.
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 02:51 PM
Yeah. Both are fine. But Some people have said thet don't like Mirage' art. I guess it doesn't work for all.
heretic888
11-26-2002, 02:59 PM
i think it's because the Mirage style typically is darker and 'grittier' in nature. if you are mostly familiar with 'superhero' style art in comics, it wont necessarily appeal to you. its like someone who only listens to sugar ray starts listening to the deftones. the art style in tmnt is meant to convey a theme and feelings more than anything else. the use of shadow in the original tmnt series is excellent.
Karpo_007
11-26-2002, 03:06 PM
Yeah I really like the Mirage art, but i also read Spider-man. Both work for me.

I'm afraid to ask what you mean by that
HorseTechie
11-27-2002, 11:02 AM
But didn't the Next Mutant try something like that already (give them new looks and tricked out weapons)?
heretic888
11-27-2002, 11:43 AM
no. it give them idiotic looking costumes and stupid weapons. putting two sai/jutte together is not a 'modern weapon' nor is a tonfa more 'updated' than a nunchaku/kusari-fundo.
Costume-wise, i was thinking more something that reflected their personality. More like fashion styles than 'costumes'. Possibly what Eastman and Laird proposed in the fourth movie. It would be better to have the turtles wear regular clothes most of the time. That would be more 'ninja' like.
Weapon-wise, i think Mike for example should have a kusari-fundo over a nunchaku. It is a more concealable, deadlier, and diverse weapon. Not to mention a nunchaku is illegal to carry in most states. Not to mention a kusari-fundo is actually a ninja weapon and the nunchaku was not.
Same with Raph's sai. The sai (three pronged) was not a ninja weapon but the jutte (two pronged heavier version) was. The point of the jutte, however, was to counter swords a common weapon of the times. People don't run around with swords anymore.... so another weapon (such as knuckle claws via Wolverine, or dual combat knives) would be better.
Karpo_007
11-27-2002, 12:47 PM
I hope they wouldn't stuck up using same weapons all the time. I mean they are probably trained to use more than their favorite weapons.
heretic888
11-27-2002, 12:53 PM
in the palladium rpg, they can all (except for Donatello) use almost any hand to hand weapons.
Karpo_007
11-27-2002, 12:56 PM
Yeha I know they can use other weapons, it's just very rare to see them doing it.
heretic888
11-27-2002, 01:01 PM
Mike shot some apples off don's head with a japanese longbow in one of the early tmnt issues. good aim.
and in their early years, it shows mike using a manriki-gusari/kusari-fundo, and raph using some tonfa. they can all use japanese staffs and swords too.
Karpo_007
11-27-2002, 01:03 PM
Yeah they had some diffrent weapons in issue #9. And yeah Leo used the Bow too for Hunting.
heretic888
11-27-2002, 01:06 PM
i forget which issue it was, but in one of them when Don thought he was a shaman and they saved a 'great turtle spirit' it showed them whip out a bunch of different weapons in a sack: kama, long fist daggers, knives, etc..
raph also used butterfly swords (a chinese weapon) to trim the christmas tree once.

I agree that Eastman is probably the best. I think Lawson draws awesome non-human creatures. His humans are a little rough though.

Archie is drawn in totally difrent style, You can't compare those. But April has been drawn better in Mirage too. Lawsson is good to Draw the TMNT but Humans...

BTW, was she originally supposed to be part italian? I had noticed that in the earlier issues of Mirage Volume 1.

Actually Karpo, some people from Mirage have helped do some issues of the Archie TMNT series. Infact, Jim Lawson himself did a few.
Karpo_007
11-28-2002, 12:20 AM
Still it's diffrent style. I think Laird did some covers to Archie.

Was it Lawson who drew a story about some secret agent who got mutated into a chameleon? I remember reading that one as a kid and I really hated the art back then...

Has there been any other confirmation on this project besides from Wizard? I just checked out the Dreamwave website (they have some sweet looking titles btw) and there is no mention of the TMNT, except by excited fans on the message board. Has anyone heard any confirmation from Dan Berger or Mirage?
If they plan on making a TMNT series with the look and feel of some of their other stuff, that might be worth a gander.

Come on tell me some thing is Dream Wave doing the TMNT? Dreamwave kicks butt most of the time and I'd love to see how they make the guys look. And I still want to see a TMNT/TF cross over if this works. Hey I'd settle for a poster of them, they did it with TF/GI Joe.
Come on Raph and casey beat Carlos

I haven't heard anything official about Dreamwave/TMNT. I bet an announcement will be made close to the debut of the cartoon...
