Favortie/Disliked Tales of TMNT Artist

I was wondering who everyones Favorite and disliked Tales artist. Since Tales uses someone different for each issue.
So far my favorite is Dan Berger. His art is so awesome I like it alot! The turtles look perfect in his style.
And the artist I dont like at all is Jim Lawson. His art just doesnt appeal to me. The people look ugly and I dont like the way he draws turtles.

The guy who did Worms of Madness was my favorite. It was a nice change of pace in artistic style. and he drew a pretty mean Shredder-monster.

And my least favorite is Jim Lawson. His turtles look great but his humans are very amateurish-looking. And his Splinter looks rediculous. I don't mind him on volume 4, I can live with just one Jim Lawson title, but I think Tales should be around to showcase different talent.

My favorite artist so far would have to be Dario Brizuela, the guy who did the art for #1. Really clean and stylish work. Truly a breath of fresh air.

Least favorite is Rick Remender. His pencils were pretty good (He posted them a long time ago on this forum), but the inks were so unbelievably messy that I had a hard time just looking at the pages. I think the inks were done by someone else so I'm not sure if it's fair to list Remender as least favorite, but the point remains that I didn't like the art at all.

I'm also still trying really hard to like Jim Lawson's art, but I just can't. His TMNT don't look too bad, but his people and pretty much everything else look, well, terrible to be quite honest. It's like the guy doesn't care. His earlier works looked far better so I know he has the skill, but I just can't feel the love here.

i think Lawson's style has degenerated...I liked CAW..I was just looking at it this morning, and noticed how bad it's gotten today..
I wish Dooney would take over, I like his alot better.

I'm not really a connaisseur, but I think it takes an acquired taste to appreciate Lawson's art. All my friends and family members would gawk in horror everytime I show them the current TMNT comics. I understand how they feel and I do feel that Lawson could make those humans more appealing.

If there was an artist who, I wish, should make a comeback, it's Eric Talbot. I read many of his stories and I really like his style. It's reminiscent of Lawson's very early style, which is why I like it. And he also handles facial expressions very well!
If he can't, then Dan Berger could also fill in, as his style is very similar to Eric Talbot's.

I think Lawson's work requires a different style of inking is all. It is a bit lapse but I can see some great pencil work ruined by sparse use of ink, very unlike the old Lawson issues.

My least favourite is Rick Remender. Not that he was bad, I just didn't like the style much. I didn't like the look of the turtles or Splinter. Plus, I wasn't too impressed with the cheap story idea. I don't really feel it fits in with the continuity - read RTNY and then that.

I really like the series in general. But my favorite is Dario Brizuela, because his art is very clean. I don't really have a least favorite, as i liked ll of the artists in each of the books.

I like A.C. Farley's work. Didn't seem to do too much comic interior work just mostly covers.

On topic, Bergers' been around long enough that he needs to start drawing comics more enough :)

Everyone who likes Berger's work please check out the book he did called Gutwallow. He needed support but never got it and he had to cancel the book, still really good though.

Berger is my favorite from Tales, but I like pretty much everyone else's work too. Though some here hated the issue with the cats, I kinda liked it and Lawson's style worked well for it. As long as he only does a few issues at a time I'm totally cool with Lawson doing work on Tales.

I dont think Lawson should leave TMNT vol 4..so far every issue is his art and it would be very jarring if it changed. I think his work has evolved over the years and his humans have become more stylized. Some of my favorite artists on Tales are Chris Allan and Dan Berger..and I don't think there are any I don't like yet.

Issue 13's front cover is a little strange, I don't know who the artist for that but the square head style doesn't look quite right to me.

Favorite-Eastman and Laird,theyre early stuff was cartoony but Ive always liked it.

Least Favorite-The new Jim Lawson stuff,Lawson was great at first,his art on vol.4 is less than great.

Jim Lawson rules! THE true turtle artist since Eastman turned into Mr. Hyde (Heavy Metal, Bodycount, F.A.K.K.2 : porn stars, blood, testosterone)

And keep big-boobs-big-muscles-superheroes-are-so-cool Mike Dooney out of the way. Always been the less inspired TMNT artist. No individual style. Just plain '50s «golden age» rip-off.

Nice thread. I don't realy have favorite/least favorite artist so far. That's one of those things I enjoy, seeing the different artistic styles and the artist takes on the TMNT. Even under Pete's guidelines, The artist can realy show "their" TMNT. It's the little things, how the draw the details, the weapons, expressions...and so on, where their individual talents show up. Even the art that I didn't like as much still had flow and merit.
And I liked seeing some "old school" TMNT talent show up. It was even good to see Chris Allen's work, I was hoping it would have been a gritter style to fit in more with the mirage continuity, But it was a nice "in between" Style that worked very well, I thought, because it was fimiliar to his fans but schooled for this continuity...(I know...I'm rambling...). I would like to see A.C and Mike do an issue or two, and Maybe just for the Hell of it, Lesean and Michrony, But I would like to see some more new artist show up as well. And I think that Pete and crew have done a good job on chosing new talent. I know I have a long list of artist I would love to see do TMNT.

I think it's really cool how, as evidenced by the last few Tales, Pete's got this whole new team doing this now, with all these new guys returning to do spashes and frontispieces and covers. Really neat. My favorite TMNT artist is Kevin Eastman, I like his tones. Is that a good reason?

As for least favorite? Hm... I really do like just about all of it. I dunno, maybe I'll get back to you.

I'd say my favorite is Talbot but it's too bad he doesnt do much TMNT stories....
I do like Lawson quite a bit, the unique style and highly detailed scenes. He also handles action very well. The artists I like less are the ones who make the TMNT too cartoony or animation styled. I'm more into the grittier look...

Hmm...That's a tough one. I'm gonna have to go with Dan Berger. I just love love the way he pencils. It has such a nice flow of sharpness and the retro cartoon tmnt look. The inks/shadows gives his work a better grade as well. My favorite artwork/story from him is vol. 2 Tales Of The TMNT #8.

I love Eric Talbot's art. I don't think he's pencilled a single Tales issue (??) but I would love to see it. I like Dan Berger's a lot, too, except when he draws the Turtles too goofy.

Jim Lawson should stay on for Vol. 4, but no more Tales. Tales can be marketed to a much broader audience and I want the most "user-friendly" art possible in those (although dark'n'gritty, please!). Lawson is good at detail and action and expressions when he wants to be, but usually he just seems to skip over a bunch of thinks. His art was great in the old Tales and in City at War, but I wouldn't give him too much credit for Return to New York--Eastman's and Laird's layouts were extremely tight and Lawson copied them almost exactly.

As for other artists ... I will have to look through them all again. I liked looking at Remender's stuff but agree it was too boxy. I also am not a huge fan of art where the Turtles look too much like humans, especially wrestlers with huge chests and small heads.
