There's no such thing as over all best TMNT.
They're each good at something. They each have unique traits and characteristics.

Now if the poll was more specific, then it would be more feasible.

Like, if it was a poll of who's the best fighter, it would be Leo.

If it was a poll of who's the best technician, it would be Donnie.

If it was a poll of who's the best at loosening tension in critical situations, it would be Mikey.

If it was a poll of who's the best at being a pain in the butt, it would be Raph.

OMG how can you pick and choose among the TMNT they are all so wonderful and charming and they all have such flamboyant personallities. I loved all the turtls in the classic toon.
But I have always loved Michaelangelo. he is just such a geniune character and he is sweet.

When I was younger I loved Leonardo as well and I still do but now that I have seasons one and two of the classic toon on dvd and I have rewatched these episodes, I have to say that Raphael is my second favorite turtle after Michaelangelo . I just love his sarcastic personallty and quips, I love what he added to the show, he was just too funny.

*chuckles* Nah, he's OK. I just like him better in the new toon because he has more of a "leadership aura" instead of constantly saying "But Master Splinter said..." Sure, he does a bit of that even now, but he's cooler about it.

I must have liked him enough for him to be my favorite by the time the new toon appeared though, even if it was only for the blue and the swords. (I loved Mikey then too...as a 4-year-old I definitely appreciated his humor)

Leo pretends to be a true ninja? Technicaly, all the TMNT are true ninja. And also, how does Leo pretend to be a true ninja? By your logic, it's like saying Tom Cruise pretends to be a true actor.

Also, Leo would not despise poker because it's gambling. I think Leo is quite comfortable with puting high stakes on the table as he puts his life on the line.

I can obviously see you're not fond of Leo if you felt like insulting him like that...

Poker eh? *thinks* I agree that Leo wouldn't be that good. If he's anything like me, he's horrible at bluffing (like when I try and play BS *grin*).
Don would do OK with strategy, and he'd be better at bluffing than Leo, but not much. Also he might be distracted if he were planning some new cool project, working out everything in his head when he's supposed to be playing.
Raph would love poker and be pretty good at it. His poker face may not be the best because he has a hair-trigger temper, and if he got a bad hand...*grins* I also wouldn't want to be in the room when he loses.
Mikey would love the game and be incredibly good at bluffing and irritating others to the point of making mistakes. He'd only slip up when a good winning streak would make him careless, methinks.

And hugger? I dunno, they're all scaly and hard... Mike and Don I think are more sensitive, so they'd do OK. I really don't see Leo or Raph as the touchy-feely type of Turtle. Of course, I've never really thought of a turtle hugging anyone :tlol: so who knows?

Doesn't matter Ryo. :) "By "true ninja" I meant "perfect" or "the best one" as Leo's the one who's the most serious about his trainings. The game of cards would be a total waste for time for him, as instead of playing cards you can spend your time for trainings or self-development. And this is rather mature view, IMO, highly recommended, really.

Oh - and remember one scene from "Turtle Tracks", the one Ectocooler has in his signature? I reckon this shot explains well Leonardo's attitude to little gambling :D Otherwise he would try and play and not cut the table.

I have always like leonardo and I think he has and is awsome in every incarnation that he has been in. Classic Toon, New Toon, Live Action Movies, Comics. Leonardo rocks muchly.

And to be honest i didn't think leonardo was annoying in the classic toon. He was always very serious and dedicated and wanted to be as good as a student to master Splinter as he could be and that made him a tad pushy sometimes but he was just a very motivated turtle. I don't see much difference between classic toon Leonardo and new toon Leonardo.

The only thing that bugged me about classic toon Leonardo was sometimes he din't take into consideration that the other turtles had other interests other than training. Sometimes they wanted to go see a freakin' movie. At least New toon Leonardo seems a bit more tolerant of the fact that the turtles have indivdual agendas than him that they like to pursue.

What buggs me about new toon Leonardo is the fact that he is always with Splinter. Yeah I know he wants to be the best ninja there is but he is always with him. i mean seriously he spends more time with Splinter than his own brothers that are his age. i mean is that does any one elese think that is weird? I least in the classic toon Leonardo hung out more often with his bros and engaged in more activiaties with them than Splinter. I find that to be more natural.

I voted for Raphael. I think Raphael has the best potential out of all of the turtles. There is a phrase that keeps repeating in my head at this moment, and it goes something like "you have to go through the darkness in order to get to the light." I think that since Raphael has been through the veils of darkness, that when, not if, he comes out of it he will be that much stronger for it. Thus, when each of his brothers inevitably meet it headlong (for any number of reasons, be it: injury, death, torture, mental illness, bruising of the soul), then Raph, because of his experience in that arena, will be their best bet to not only understand but to help and maybe even save them.
Maybe that's too deep. But that's one of the many things I think of when I think of Raphael. Maybe he's just my personal best (or favorite, whichever way you see it), but I think he definately has the best potential. One I truly believe he will reach, most likely with help of his best bud Mikey (who is my second fav. by a close margin). I realize the heading says "who is the best" not "who is your favorite". For some it's the same, for some it's not. But for me it means the same, and that is Raphael. Sorry if this sounds too crazy for you guys (as in: 'he has too much thinking time on his hands :roll: ). But that's just one of my many opinions on what I think is the best, the greatest of all the turtles: RAPHAEL !!!

In the old show, Donatello is my favorite.

Even though Donatello is a ninja warrior, he strikes me as a bit of a pacifist. Oh, not a true one, but he would rather out-think an enemy than out-fight an enemy, and more than the others would. Don seems the most peaceful and relaxed. (Although one could argue that of Mikey.)

Plus, I like Don's voice in the old show. It was the squeakiest, not that of a warrior. It was cute and unthreatening and thus very cool.

In the new show, I will have to go with Raphael, becasue in the new show he's this hunched over, pissed-off rage machine that truly loves his work. Plus, when he smiles, it can look a little demented...

Donatello always has the coolest voices, I love how they make his voice sound both geeky yet cool at the same time. I love how Barry Gordon did his voice. I didn't even know that he did the voice of Brainy smurf and the honey Nut cheerios bumble bee until that episode when they all got shrank and their voices got all small and he sounded just like Brainy **squee**

I even like his voice in the new toon as well because it is at the same time geeky and tottally cute. I think he sounds more a teenager than any of the other turtles. Long live Donatello's voice actors!!

Let me tell you what's going on here. A forum member posted a comment that didn't sit well with you. Instead of sitting back and posting a response along the lines of, "Huh?" or something similar, you chose to verbally attack that member without any course of justification. That is wrong.

I retaliated in the simplest form of politeness and civility with a question that was supposed to result in you thinking about what you had done, and perhaps apologizing for it. But, you became sarcastic. So I retaliated once again, because you, being a member that's been here longer, should know better. But clearly you don't. I am justified by my "name-calling" because of past incidents with you, and your encounters with other members on this board.

Something interesting I've noticed is the Raph fans tend to be people who specifically don't like the leaders of any given team. My friend for one.

Me, the reason I like Leo is not because he's the leader... it's how he does it naturally without having to boss too much (outside of the old toon...) that's cool. His brothers follow him because he just has that "air" of knowing what to do.

And then there's that ruddy perfectionist in him, torturing him on his ninjitsu in the same way I tortured myself over grades in high school. Complete with the people who I'm sure wanted to smack me because I was disappointed with a 94 percent.

I tend to like all Leo's incarnations, especially Mirage Comics versions, but all four turtles from the Mirage comics were cool. But again all their incarnations are pretty likable.

Hell, I stopped it with my last post. The fact that everyone is lecturing him over his childish behavior is proof that I don't need to continue anything.

Although if you go by the mirage comics Raphael seems to be just as good Leonardo. Heck he is the one that created the foot clan when the turtles went back in time when he wowed a couple of warriors with his moves.

The one thing that bothers me about that is that I wished the comic had given all the turtles equal parts in giving the warriors from the past a taste of what their moves are like instead of just Raphael. That way it could have been all four turtles that are really the true creators of the foot clan in the past.

When I first read issue 47, I thought that was crazy, but he does end up taking over the Foot Clan in the image series, I think.

That way it could have been all four turtles that are really the true creators of the foot clan in the past.

That's true, in the literal sense. The Image volume really did "butcher" the turtles. However, I prefer to consider it as a "What if..." plotline, like the way I look at TNM, rather than to be so extreme as to have it "burn in hell."

I hope I don't get flamed for saying this but from what I read of Image on the official site, it wasn't the ungodly unspeakable horror that I thought it was going to be. I thought some of it was actually ok, not good but ok. I think that pissed me off the most is the way they mutalated poor Donatello. I mean first he loses all his body parts (most of them) and then his brain dies when he gets attacked by that alian brain sucker thing.

I was really pissed off. The rest seemed all right. But then again I didn't even get far enough into it where Leonardo loses his hand, or Raphael becomes the head of the foot (from what I read he was just talking with them and was thinking about assinating a mobster), so maybe all the crappy bizzar sh** happens a little later on.

Of coarse, my actual opinion: they couldn't exist without earch other being a team means none is really the best, for each of them rely on the others special traits and characteristics to pull through and survive whatever comes the way.

I'd have to say that Leonardo would be the most likely to survive on his own though.

As for favorites...I like them all equally, though I do tend to like Raphael a smidgen more. :D

Well, now that I think of it, It's probably not so weird. I mean, ever since the new series, Raph has been my least favorite because he's kind of a dick in the new series, though people who know me well can probably say that I'm just as broody and abrasive as Raph. :lol:

I guess if we find our own faults in others, we tend to look down on those individuals because we don't want to be like them even though we actually are similar to them.

I have to say that I like classic toon Raphael more than new toon Raph. Simply because I enjoyed his sarcastic nature and humour allot more than new toon Raphael's gangsta attitude. Raphael is just priceless in the classic toon, he was sassy and had the best one liners. One liners that put new toon Mikey to shame often I'm afraid :( .There really needs to be a thread or something that pays homage to him :D , just because he provided me with endless amout of amusment.

Oh and actually classic toon Raphael had his moments of being a dick as well
he was actually just as tempermental and easily aggravated as new toon Raphael is, he just isn't scary and violent about it. And actually Raph from the new series has his charm, I enjoyed his interaction with that blind lady in Touch and Go and I like his gruff brotherly affection he has for his brothers. But he seriously needs to stop hitting and punching Mikey all the time. That is seriouly starting to piss me off. We can't go through one episode where Raph doesn't deck Mikey. I'm waiting for Mikey to finnaly get fed up and tell him that the hitting thing isn't cool.

Although I like New toon Raphael a hell of a lot better than Mirage comic Raphael. I just find it very hard to like him and feel sympathy for him sometimes.

Back to the subject: I always like the way Mikey was goofy, but OT Raph always seemed to be the more funny IMO. Many of his comebacks and one-liners were great. Mike thrived on being a total goof. Not saying it's a bad thing, but it just didn't capture a laugh like OT Raph. As the movies came out he still held a bit of that humor, even tho he was more dark and moody.

Sometimes people don't locate their feelings in leading characters, they prefer supporting ones, as more similar to them. Well, at least that was my philosophy. I've always liked supporting characters (or even episodical) more than the leading ones. Really don't know why I prefered those who were never in the limelight.

I remember in the TMNT And Other Strangeness Role-Playing Book, when I was reading the boys' profiles, it says that Leonardo is perhaps the smartest one atleast in all-around intelligence.

This book was printed in 1985 and the profiles were written by Eastman & Laird. I have it around here somewhere... If I can find the book, I'll scan the profile pages.

I was always under the impression that Michelangelo was really smart-- in several series of the comics, he becomes a writer, and one of them was written by him (but actually it was written by Eric Talbot) where he is a samurai saving some human girl.

He is more of a creative type than an intellectual, though. Leonardo probably is the most well-rounded in intelligence.

Oh, and fun fact, in the old Archie series, Splinter tested them all as children and they would cheat for each other and pretend to be the other turtles to take the tests they were best at 3 more times. Mike was best at history, Don at math, and Leo at spelling. Raphael didn't get to take his test yet, because Splinter figured it out with Mikey and they all beat the crap out of him for betraying them.

lol I took an IQ test a long time ago that my aunt gave me when she was visiting, but I forgot what the result was. I was also like 12 or 13 at the time, and I'm 21 now, so I'm not sure if it would even be relevant if I did remember it.

my grandma and grandpa both have IQs of about 160 though, which is supposedly way above average.

Here's what I think the turtles' IQs are:

Leonardo: 150
Mikey: 140
Donatello: 120
Raphael: 145

Yeah. I think many people (myself included) sometimes judge intelligence based on personality traits, when personality really has little to no correlation with intelligence. I mean, some people might think Mikey’s not so smart because he’s a goof, but his quick thinking and creative problem solving show otherwise. I think Raph’s a “quick-thinker”, too, whereas Don and Leo probably spend more time thinking and rethinking out solutions. Both have their pros and cons, of course. I mean, Leo’s definitely intelligent, yet he’s been tricked and manipulated by both Saki and Karai.

Well, I think the case with Saki was that for Leo, it was such a rare and fantastic find to meet another Ninja master with his own students.
It's kinda like finding ten thousand dollars underneath a bench. You get so excited that you don't really bother to go into where it came from and how it got there.

With Karai, I'd say it's the age old situation of infatuation for another. Now, I wouldn't call it love at first sight, but I am pretty sure that Leo has at least a mild interest in Karai.

OS Mike was a stoner with a one-track mind: he had the munchies so bad. Every single episode ended with Raph, Leo, Don, April and Splinter reflecting on the adventure. Finally someone would say, "Hey, where's Michelangelo?"
Dur, where do you think?"
He comes out of the kitchen with usually 3 or 4 pizzas, and everyone laughs.

But I don't think he had any mental handicaps. Just irrational obsessions and maybe some kind of substance abuse problem.
