View Full Version : What about Music?

Voice actors can really make or break the 2007 film, but...How about the music?
An original score maybe?
Pre-existing songs that scream TMNT?
Soundtracks for action movies have been really cool like Kill Bill and Sin City for example. It makes me wonder what direction the music will go...
Pretend the CD is in your hand and please don't say Vanilla Ice is making a come back ... Haha :D

ok, ok, i know I'm showing my age here, but....

*singing*

Risin up
back on the street
did my time took my chances
went the distance now I'm back on my feet
just a man and his will to survive
so many times
it happens too fast
you trade your passion for glory
don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
you must fight just to keep them alive

It's the eye of the tiger
its the cream of the fight
risin up to the challenge of our rivals
and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
and he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Face to face
out in the heat
hanging tough
stayin hungry
the stack the odds still we take to the street
for the kill with the skill to survive...

It's the eye of the tiger
its the cream of the fight
risin up to the challenge of our rivals
and the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night
and he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger

Risin up
straight to the top
had the guts got the glory
went the distance now I'm not gonna stop
just a man and his will to survive

Man, that song is awesome. It should be in there somewhere.

I'm not the biggest fan of soundtracks made by sticking pre-existing songs together. If they do that, they should use only 4 or 5 songs, and fill out the rest of the soundtrack with awesome scores. I love scores... it was disappointing that there was only one real score on the original TMNT movie soundtrack.

Me too... I love the new toon but I always change the channel during the theme song. It's not that the song itself is too bad, but the fact that it's trying to be the Turtles' theme song... *shakes head* No. The '80s theme kicks its butt.

The music needs to be all orgnial. I dont want any lame bands playing in it. I cant stand what's popular and if music was going to be in it they would use popular music. I saw Robots the other day*Dont EVEN ask* and they had RAP music in it. Gah it was horrible. And then Robin Willams already homosexual robot by the end of the movie had boobs, a dress on, and was singing and dancing to Hit Me Baby One More Time :dead:

the 80s theme of tmnt was not just a classic it was cathcy and anoying at the same time, and you can sing it to people on the street and they will recognize it. but the new tmnt song its not cathcy its just anoying and try to sing that on the street then people wont recognize it. if their not turtles fans of the new show.

I say original score aswell, but have a few bands in it. Afterall, this is another Mirage adaptation, so our best bet would be something dark, more than likely hard rock/metal kinda. cause remember all throughout TMNT you see hard rock/metal band references too(Bon Scott[AC/DC], Metallica, etc.) altho i say no Metallica...im really diggin this new Disturbed tune 'Guarded' and think it could work in the movie. Or have some bands write some original material, cause no matter who it is it'll be better than V-Ice. Another song i'd prolly put in is 'No Way Out' by Dope from their upcomming album, it sounds like it'd be a great song during an important fight. Or if nothin else, these could be somethin we hear Mikey or someone else listening to on their CD player or somethin.

That is why I want an all original soundtrack. My idea of dark music is not Disturbed and Dope. To be honest with you I hate those bands. My idea of dark is Dimmu Borgir or Cradle Of Filth. Good action music would be In Flames*And not this new In Flames crap people see on MTV* or Children Of Bodom. But since 98% of amercians either dont know who these bands are or dont listen to them*And if they do it's the newest CD that they advertised at Hot Topic so NOW people know who they are* that will never happen. Yes I have very strong opinions on music

Dimmu Borgir

Oh boy... In high school, my friends tried to educate me with Dimmu Borgir, Enthrone, Slayer or ol' good Vader. They didn't succeed but the name "DB" will always evoke my positive high school remembrance.
Just 2 cents. And about the TMNT 4 OST - well - definitely the 80s methinks.

Oh well - he tried different forms at once and wanted to share his own joy of being a musical explorer with me. It was 2001, we were young and reckless at that time. And probably Dimmu Borgir had already its best album out.
I thought about April's theme - "Lady in Yellow" based on Chris Rea's "Lady in Red".

dimmu borgir on a tmnt soundtrack? well its not a bad idea, but i dont think the people behind the movie or the soundtrack would go for that. it would not surprise if they put in music from elvis, franky boy, michael jakcson, the beatles or some new nu metal crap. but if they are going to use some norwegian or scandinavian black metal i hope they not just looking for dimmu borgir , but bands like satyricon, darkthrone, enslaved or even burzum.

and some music from nine inch nails like, happiness in slavery, closer, or the brilliant hurt.

I wouldn't mind hearing '80s music in the background during a Turtles movie. I love the genre and it is their decade... but there seem to be a lot of '80s haters in the world, so they may not do it. I myself am not a fan of any modern rock (regardless of type) or rap. Ugh.

An original soundtrack would rock indeed, Spitfire... but what genre to put it in? Not surprisingly, I would recommend '80s style... with perhaps some really dramatic scores like they put in big action movies such as LotR or PotC. Just make the style say "Turtles" and I'm fine with it. Even the style of the stuff they play in the background of the new show is tolerable.

some music/artist that would hope be on a tmnt soundtrack if it was kinda 1980s style.

it must be different tunes, not only one music style.

1.slayer - raining blood - it could done well as the shredders theme of the 80s
2.alphaville - forever young
3.kim wilde - keep me hangin on
4.bryan adams - summer of 69
5.the b5s - planet claire
6.billy idol - white wedding
7.talk talk - lifes what you make it
8.iron maiden - run to the hills
9.joy division - ceremony
10.mr mister - broken wings
11.the smiths - how soon is now?
12.queen featuring david bowie - under pressure

14.europe - final countdown
15.aha - the sun always shine on the tv
16.whitesnake - here i go again
17.simple minds - dont you forget about me
18.def leppard - animal
19.guns n roses - welcome to the jungle
20.phil collins - in the air tonight
21.frankie goes to hollywood - relax
22.tears for fear - pale shelter
23.prince - purple rain
24.madonna - live to tell

a double disc or even av trippel disc with 80s classic from hair metal, new romantic, new wave, bubble gum pop, synth pop, rap, or some ballads.

like the miami vice soundtrack, dont think they going to realese any soundtrack with just 80s music maybe something, but more from the 90s and forward.

>12 (Under Pressure) - Yes! The tone wouldn't exactly fit a "pressure" situation, but at least it isn't Vanilla Ice's ripped-off version (aka Ice Ice Baby) *kicks Vanilla Ice for ruining a perfectly good song...*
>31 (Jump) - Training montage, anyone?
>46 (Africa) - Only one of my most favorite songs ever. Perhaps one of the bros gets lost/injured and they're searching for him?
>49 (Another Brick in the Wall) I'm with ya again, Rob... :tlol:

I am loving the 80s music. I am definitely a child of that time and I always love me some bowie :)
I was thinking how could it be to have a basic background instrumental that has a variaton depending on which character was being forcused on. It Unifies them as brothers and a team but changes to signify their personalities.
Example... it gets a little harder with some heavier bass on Raph or gets a little Techno with Don, becomes a little lighter bouncier with mikey or more melodic and fluid with Leo with the intensity about half of what Raph's may be but powerful cause he is the leader...It could be four themes in one song and at one point it could combine in a clever way...agh I wish I could compose! Darn my lack of musical talent!
I dunno just a random thought when I was walking to work listening to Sin City instrumental The Servant.
The idea is reminiscent of how Danny elfman works when he does stuff for tim burton. He gives everything it's own theme, there is never anything generic.
As much as I love pre exisitng songs and I would like some of that in there too I want to see some original scores indefinitely. Everyone on here has some awesome taste

I am fine with what they do in the show it works for the cartoon. Maybe just a few steps further and something not so synthy generic. My B/f watches with me sometimes and he has a bit of an ear for digitally composed music sometimes he thinks they aren't enough diffences in what they use.
I haven't so much pulled out any of the previous soundtracks. I want one I can add to my ipod and listen to while I walk the city. Something real wicked, to match the moods of the city and the tone of the stories.
My head is buzzing with ideas

Gorillaz wouldn't be a bad choice. Heck, they could animate the band into the movie! Seriously though, a lot of their stuff could work. I like the idea of 80's music, but I like that genre to begin with.

Could use Chumbawumba's "Tubthumper" in the beginning or for the ending music; all they would have to do is modify the intro from The Commitments:

Truth is, I thought it mattered,
I thought that music mattered -
but does it not bullocks compare to our turtles matter?

I get knocked down!
But I get up again!
You ain't never gonna keep me down!

The thing about music for this film is that it truly depends on the plot. How dark (or non dark) will the finished project actually be? Guess we'll have to wait to see (and hear).
Thinking about the subject more and more, I realize that you could take the music in a number of directions.
If it has tons of 'wild and crazy action' like Bruckheimer films, then I think it would be perfect to get Hans Zimmer to score. His score for Broken Arrow was amazing. Bruckheimer's films tend to have very cool, well done scores (like Broken Arrow, The Rock, and Con Air) that give the films more life, excitement, and soul. So hearing music like the ones in those films would give the movie a more epic, emotional feeling that would basically kick major ass.
If their are training sequence/sequences, I've always been fond of the Rocky IV soundtrack (one of my favs). I very much loved the songs "Hearts on Fire"(excellent song for training) and "No Easy Way Out" (a perfect song for my fav turtle Raphael).
At the end of the film, I've thought that it would be cool to use a song from a band called Alter Bridge. It would either be "In Loving Memory" (especially if something tragic happened in the film), "Open Your Eyes (could interpret that maybe turtles have changed/grown from beginning of the film to the end) or "Broken Wings". Or heck, even the "Count on Us" song from the TMNT Coming out of their Shells (maybe different singers/change a couple of lyrics/or keep as is) would be a little cool.
Hopefully the music will be taken seriously by the talents and treat it, along with every other aspect of the film, with the proper respect. We can only wait and see and hear.

1.Get back(Rock Version bye sum41 and ludacris
2.Yeah (usher)
3.Into the Darkness(kittie)
4.My Immortal(evanescence)
5. Bring Me to life (evanescence)
6. Going under (evanescence)
7.Thoughtless (korn)
8 In the end (linkin Park)
9. Numb/encore (Linkinpark Jay-Z)
10.HeadStrong (trapt)
11.I just wanna live (good charlotte)
12. Tight rope (lucana coil)
13.Fly(Hilary duff)
14.I found a way (Drake bell)
15.Aly and A.J (No One)

that would be a kick ass soundtrack in my opinuion. Im stuck in between Going under,Thoughtless and Headstrong for a theme for Rapheal what do you think. another very cool which I think would fit the turtles perfect too... the song ''Push it to the limit'' from Scarface. If you haven't heard it yet, then I will absolutely suggest that you do. the song has also been used in the South Park episode ''Up The Down Steroids'' hehe :)

Has anyone ever heard of the movie Uncommon Valor, the 80's Vietnam flick with Gene Hackman, Patrick Swayze, and Fred Ward. At the end credits, there's this beautiful song which would be perfect for the end credits of the new movie called "Brothers in the Night". Here are some of the lyrics:

"I believe that all good deeds are men who never fall
they aint gone forever, forever standing tall
I believe that all good deeds are men who never fall
We're all brothers in the night
Reaching out for something right

There are darkened forces, that hide behind masks
And to right all the wrongs is an impossible task
Yet at a certain time, and at a certain place
Men can redeem mankind's mistakes
The courage of our past, will lead to peace at last
Even after war so rotten, so many hearts are gone and I forgot

I believe that all good deeds are men who never fall
They ain't gone forever, forever standing tall
I believe that all good deeds are men who never fall
We're all brothers in the night
Reaching out for something right
We're all brothers in the night
It's our time, let's unite

There's more, but that's all I could think of, and I'm not sure if it's 100% correct. Love the song to death.

I've never heard that song, but the lyrics sound really fitting. Cool!

I was thinking how could it be to have a basic background instrumental that has a variaton depending on which character was being forcused on. It Unifies them as brothers and a team but changes to signify their personalities.
Example... it gets a little harder with some heavier bass on Raph or gets a little Techno with Don, becomes a little lighter bouncier with mikey or more melodic and fluid with Leo with the intensity about half of what Raph's may be but powerful cause he is the leader...It could be four themes in one song and at one point it could combine in a clever way:

Definitely my favorite of the ideas put forth.

As much as I love the 80s, and 80s music.... the new movie is NOT from the 80s, and having that kind of anarchronismn would just be WEIRD.

Although I also don't really want to be hearing current pop music in it........even songs I like. It just...doesn't fit the TMNT to me. I can't imagine hearing trash rap, or Evanescence, or Linkin Park...gah... and I like them (at least the last two ;p ) but...just....no. I think I'd rather here stuff from a fairly unknown artist, something newly written, or something ONLY insturmental...no or few lyrics.

I kinda like the idea of starting the movie with the original theme song....but that might hit on the prejudice of those people who idolize the old show and hate everything that isn't it. But I dunno... it'd be cool if it started with at least the cords of that, and if the end credits were to the whole version. We'd all be dancing out of the theaters!

Perhaps not in music (alas...) as much as everything else, but I don't think it would be that weird.

I agree wholeheartedly on your favorite idea though. If only I could come up with scores!

Ehhh.... there are certain 80s things that are part of the retro trend, but I wouldn't say the 80s is coming back so much as some things (like TMNT) are regaining some popularity. And while the TMNT are from the 80s in their way, the new movie isn't being made in the 80s. And the music in the original movies really does date them. Something timeless would be cool, especially in terms of background music.

I was thinking the other day though, while I'd rather there not be lyrics in the background sounds... if one of the guys is listening to a stereo or something, definitely lyrics and music from any period that fits them... I could see Mikey listening to 80s stuff ;) cheesy dance 80s!

But I'd still want to aviod the megastars....we don't need another Vanilla Ice incident >_> even though 2 is the only reason I have any liking for him at all!

I'm with you 100% on keeping megastars out of this.

Dated? Aww, I like it that way. And yet "timeless" would indeed be a great way to go. Something like Star Wars in style, perhaps... but tailored to fit the Turtles.

Ermmm... And what would be if they made a cover of the classic theme song for the new movie's purpose? Same lyrics, same melody and rhytm but fresher arrangement?

Like the old cartoon theme? Absolutely. Actually... I wish they'd done that for the new toon theme. I have to turn the TV off until the new theme is over. :dead:

I love the datedness of the first movies... but that time period is a lot more endearing to me than the current one ;p especially musicwise. Weeell..okay some of that music I could have done without >_>

A cover of it could be really cool, if it was well done. But you know there'll be old toon purists who whine and whine about how it's not exactly like the original ;p but oh well. A cover would be neat.
