I just saw a commercial for it. Animal Planet, Thursday. Many other animal based comic book icons are featured as well, but when I saw an image of a TMNT comic, and those theme park costume, I practically jumped out of bed. :D

It says in the link I gave that it first airs at 9 pm eastern time. There’re a few showings over the weekend as well. It's a good idea to check your local listings.

I just saw the Animal planet special, Animal Icons.

I am gonna rant so don't read if you want to see it first

I was so excited to see flashes of TMNT images in the beginning. They didn't say much about them until about fifteen minutes before the show had ended. Brian Henson was interviewed briefly about the 1990 film. He commented on how the whole idea seemed like Eastman and Laird were pretty much making a joke...Pretty good turnout for a joke. They really seemed to focus on the popularity of such an absurd idea and I was blown away when they mentioned how high a money making industry they have been since release.A figure of something like 6.5 billion was mentioned since release?? I just knew 600 million in merch sales in 2004 so woah! So proud of the guys :D
I liked where they mention the turtles are really the only ones who didn't follow the scheme of other heroes they were described as the antithesis (Sp?) of their animal origin. Which is very true but they are also original in the sense they were a lot of comic heroes who came before or copied batman or spiderman. You don't see much of that with Turtles.
They showed a few clips of the costumed live appearences they'd make. I remember seeing the guys in the TMNT huge costumes when I was younger. I was smiling like crazy the whole time. I need to catch a re run...

It's playing a couple more times in the next few days, check the animal planet website.

It was 4.5 billion. Still, that's a lot of money.

A very good 2-3 minute segment. I think they handled it quite nicely.

I missed it because Direct TV is crappy! At the first sign of rain it goes black screen or glitchy on me :x ! To those who say it, was it worth it?

That's it... I knew it was a good number. Wish I had a rewind button.

It's worth seeing it just made me happy they were recognized. They weren't talked about near as much as batman or spiderman (Who I love too and they deserve the spot considering the history :) )

but hey we take what we can get I guess :)

I thought that was a great special, and I would love to see Animal Planet go more indepth with their backstory. Perhaps they can go an expose~ some time on the short-lived Mutanimals series. It'd also be cool to see Rocksteady and Bebop get a moment in the spotlight again!
