Rather than bog down Spitfire's romantic thread about how sweet his girlfriend is, I decided to start a special thread just for us singles to whine about our crushing loneliness. :)
Let the whining begin!
BTW my situation can still be summed up in this thread from a couple years ago. (http://www.thetechnodrome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3982)

Well, being a single wouldn't be so shameful if it wasn't for happy paired society. Friends and family encourage you to pick up someone, settle down and just be content till the end of your life - like them.
I'm 22 and lately my further family told me it's high time to find myself a fiancee :o Yes, a fiancee, because the best age for marriage is below 25, according to them. How awful. I felt like Bridget Jones.

'tell 'em to shove it. Your family shouldn't tell you when to get married. It should be if you meet the right person, and you both decide to tie the knot.

Actually, these days now, around 30 is the ideal age to get married. ...er, that's if ya even want to get married.

Sheesh, actually I don't mind being single. Well, especially not after tonight, since I noticed that there's quite some girls interested in me. I could pick, but hell I won't. I mean, it would be mean to "just pick a girlfriend" since this is not a casting show. But just the feeling that my regular, impolite, "f***-you"-attiduded, anarchist self bears something interesting for girls.
I do like that one girl though... :D

I'm doomed. I'm a geek who lives on his computer and is a gamer, also known as the un-marryable type.
There are so few gaming girls in the world and 99% of them are taken. All I ever wanted was someone to share my life with. Somone to sit down with at the end of the day and play a game of Tetris with, or to pound the ole Donkey Konga bongos with. Someone just to share life with. Witout the internet, I'd probobly just die of loneliness.
Sometimes I get pretty damn lonely.

Uhm, this might sound a bit blunt, or insensitive, but have you ever tried going out? I know it sounds like "blending in with the people you hate" but believe me, it's different.
ThirdMarioBro
06-29-2005, 04:56 PM
No, it's not insensitive. I've been out, and for the most part, girls just snub at me around here. You've got to realize that Tulsa, Oklahoma is in the middle of the "bible belt" and around here, everyone is very country oriented and stuffy. In fact, my beliefs and opinions and intrests in life are about the opposite of everyone around here. That's what also contributes to making it so hard.
Anarky
06-29-2005, 05:11 PM
The bible belt? Aw, crap... I heard stories. Lots of them. Is it really that bad?
And there really isn't one club where "non-conformist" people meet? Because I live in a city with about 16,000 people, we have liek a dozen clubs, 9 of them are Hip Hop and R'n'B-holes, and there's one bar that has been sort of my home away from home. I met so many people there, including 90% of all my previous girlfriends. The others were just... odd encounters.

Im single and haven't had a BF since 1998 and I don't care if I ever get married. My dad is satisfied with my step-sister's 2 boys so he doesn't bother me with questions as to if I'll ever get married or have kids. Due to all the issues my body has I can't have kids anyways and that's fine with me...can't stand kids. :P
Im a single computer geek and am somewhat satisfied as to where I am in life. Now if only I could get a job I'd like. :ohwell:
I DO go out tho...mostly to the bar up the street.

...I don't like it when people want to have a date just so to HAVE one. Like, my one friend broke up with her b/f becuase he was beat up by a girl. And the next day she was all over this other guy and a week later came to me like she was high or something because he got her first kiss. I was like, "Jesus, chill. You should have saved that for someone you actually cared for. o_O" I'm pretty sure she won't be virgin for long. -.- My point is, don't get depressed over being single unless you really love someone and just cant have them. Be single and proud! I know I was. ...Then I met Shadow. I wasn't looking for a boyfriend; we were just friends for a while anyway.

That happens to be my situation. One, that I find myself constantly in.
And, I don't believe in just wanting a "trophy sweetheart" either, but a person does get lonely.
And, yes Anarky, the Bible-belt IS (irronically enough) hell!

Bingo, babe. My situation is a tad differnet. I'm a technical single. Without going into too much detail, my guy friend and I have been 'more than' for over a year now, but, due to... Not to rain on anyone's parade, here... But I've grown a bit tired of that old "you'll find someone" cliche. I mean, I'm sure I'll eventually get married and settle down, but I just hate how people make it seem as though it's some law of nature that everyone will find that special someone. Amen to that. And how come only marriage can guarantee happiness and well-being...
The more dangerous cliche from "you'll find someone" is "find yourself someone". Like it was so easy. Just go to bar and pick up anyone.
And about my further family - their words of wisdom have no significance for me because I meet them once in 3-4 months and the fact is my elder cousins have already married their spouses, therefore I'm the next guy in the line so they have someone to gossip about during family reunions. Yeah. I bet my current "girlfriend-in-spe" would officially freak out if I popped a question right now

The point is, if you're "Happy to be single" then, good for you, now PLEASE stop ruining our perfectly good whine-fest! Not, every single sees the advantages and we shouldn't have to justify our loneliness to you guys. Believe me, relationships infact can and will most likely make you more unhappy than being alone. They can be ugly... REAL ugly.

Haven't eaten sushi in Canada, yet. But, I've never eaten sushi I didn't like.
Everything, Ive ever eaten in a canadian restaurant has been dry and flavourless. But their groceries are fresh and tasty, so I'm really just reffering to places like that crappy place "Yesterday's" in Ottawa. If you do your own cooking or can find the Japanese restaurants you'll be fine, but heed this warning....
NEVER EAT A CANADIAN HAMBURGER! I don't know how many places my cousin and I looked for a decent hamburger, but believe me if there's a food to sneak across the border, it's that. Same with pizza, steak, and lasagna, searched high and low, was dissapointed.
Of course, your tastes may vary.

I can't explain it, I just know I had serious trouble finding good RESTAURANT food in Canada. Maybe, it's a "culteral difference", and our restaurant food also tastes bad to you. Or, maybe it's just Ottawa (which is a beautiful city BTW, if you've never been to your capital, visit it! But, pack a lunch.)
You should know, I don't judge countries by their burgers. I think Canada is a beautiful country that frankly I'd prefer to live in than this one. But, I'd be wary when going out to eat.

I guess I will put this here, it fits with Spit's story but I thought to throw it in here. I have a rather weird situation as well, like Hannah and others, mine is an online relationship. She lives in Texas, and I am in Canada, seems like I win for furthest! In my area and with my shyness and my luck I haven't turned up a girl around here. So I have known her for over 3 years but it got serious lately, and I really do love her. As in spitfire's case, she is great and I do treat her great like Spit, and I am there for her, but wish I could be there for her in real life. Once we both get school done, it will progress from there, with the possibility of her moving up here. And that is my life story, I have found that special someone, just too bad it was behind a computer screen. But I don't regret it one bit. And yes, for Bret!
