We really don't know that much for absolute sure right now. I dunno, I'm kinda hoping it's based more on the comics...even if it's toned down like the current cartoon. If you want goofy Turtles, there are the other movies...they were based partially on the old toon. (though I only saw the first one)

All I know is I'll be pumped if they make it darker, or at LEAST pay homage to the old toon.
I realize my opinion is probably that of the minority here but I'd love to see a darker Krang, Shredder and the Technodrome as I anticipated the first movie to be. I didn't bother going to see the other movies after that.

in the new movie i hope shredder returns, or that a couple of new villains will be in it.
id love to see either krang, rat king or general traag with his stone soldiers.
but if they need some comidians in it they should bring back bepop and rocksteady.
and there should be a female ninja butt kicking lady also in the movie, like if april became studying martial art with splinter, or they could have ninjara or venus in it.

It is more than likely to be based on the comics/new series, and from the looks of the posters, it will be kind of dark. All will be revealed at the S-D Comic Con when the teaser trailer is shown.

Comic Con's the 22nd, right? That's not too far off (and it's my b-day at that :)). I didn't realize they were going to be releasing a trailer so soon. How exciting!

It's July 14-17. It'll possibly be shown on either Friday around 1:15pm during the Trailer Park I session or Sunday around 10:30am during the Trailer Park session. Both times in Hall H.

Man, I hope I'll be able to see it sometime...if they put it online. Not on my computer though. Dialup is OK, but it sucks sometimes. *shiver* I hope it's flippin' incredible!

Original series characters will never be acknowledged in a live action movie. Period.

Gotta agree on that. They should stick to Mirage characters. I can even handle new toon ones cuz that's the incarnation we're in... but nothing that will interfere with the Turtles' family unit. Like a girlfriend/lackey. *shudders* I already think April is annoying enough...

I'm sure it will be more like the original film, a blending of the horribly drawn and often stupid comics and the cool original cartoon that was funny and cool :D

Stop baiting members, it's not funny, it's not big, and it's laughable.

Errr....yes, given there's comics fans here who actually don't beleive there "stupid"
And when was the first movie a "balance" of the comics and the original series?

what baiting? I can't say I dislike the comics? :roll:That's not it; you can say you dislike it, but adding the adjectives "stupid" and "horribly-drawn" are incendiary.
Like if I called the old toon "stupid," and asserted that only babies liked it. (Which I don't...it's pretty fun stuff, though the quality of the animation leaves a lot to be desired. But eh. Such were many '80s cartoons.)
I've actually never read any of the comics (outside of the 1st issue, which is online) but I'd really like to. I love the new cartoon and when reading synopses of the original comics, there are quite a lot of story arcs that they translated into the new toon. Which is awesome.

Your not alone I would have liked to that too, but it ain't gonna happen. I just hope they give the characters decent voices.

ACK! *slaps Jester* NEVER say that in public AGAIN!
Na, I respect all forms of TMNT to. But not as much with NT:TNM. But I'm confident that the movie will be darker than the first three movies and will make up from the horried TMNT 3 *shudders*

Stupid might be to harsh of a word and I'm willing to take it back. What I mean to say is that Eastman and Laird where young and inexperienced in making comics back then. Those early works seam amateurish by any standard...Also I much preferred Eastman's gritty work over Laird's Sci Fi stuff. The big reason I don't read the new stuff is because I feel that Laird has forgotten what the TMNT are all about...That and I want to read about the TEENAGE, not 30 something Ninja Turtles. I almost feel that those comics are just a "prototype" of what the TMNT really became to be known as...
The film successfully took the familiar and child friendly themes of the cartoon mixed them with a more mature story adapted from the comics leaving the space ships to Star Trek: The Next Generation thank God! But the key difference between the film and the comic is that the story was strengthen when it ventured beyond a spoof or satire of of Frank Miller's work...
A little fact people often seam to forget. That film also expanded beyond just being a cheap marketing gimmick to sell toys that the cartoon was, a fate that the second and third film did not escape...It was a good story with good characterizations and some good motivation for beyond a mission of vengeance and death (witch, IMHO stains Splinter's training and raising of the turtles in the comic) Because it was a marketing gimmick they wanted to rope kids into the theaters and that wasn't going to happen if kids didn't recognize the Turtles. The film also incorporated themes, personality trait and characteristics that children had already been familiar with by watching the 80's cartoon show and playing with those toys. That was crucial to the making of and unprecedented success of the film! It's because of that Movie that Turtle Mania continued past 1990.
The whole movie works because April is a reporter out to bust a big news story and the Shredder wants her silenced for it. That works much better as an introduction then the Turtles saving her from robots in the sewers...April's character and personality is much better served as a reporter, She can assist them in such an invaluable way she never could in the comic or new cartoon. Children also responded to Michelangelo's familiar personality, the Turtles's catch phrases, brightly colored identifying bandanas, love for fine Italian food and other familiar things that the cartoon fostered into children's mind as being what the TMNT was all about...The prefect version of TMNT, unmatched even today! T.U.R.T.L.E. POWER!

hmm, I think I may have to agree on what you have said about the second movie, although I can't give any comment in reply to what you have said about the comics since I haven't read enough of it yet.
Although as far as personnel taste I prefer the grittier urban based story lines to the sci-fi story lines. However the first Tricerotron arc was good.

The very first comics of the Turtles I agree were not my style art-wise... the Turtles looked more like frogs. But it quickly evolved into a style that it's easy to see where they derived the old and new toon styles from. That's the one I like.
Ehh, I'll maintain that I like the new and old toons for their own reasons. Old toon was silly, fun, and the Turtles were just cute. New toon is good for going closer back to the gritty, dark tone of the comics, and for emphasizing the different personalities more (closer to the way they should be). It also gets extra points for April not being snatched every other episode (though loses some for trying to make her "cool" and "tough" by learning from Splinter. And for making Casey an idiot.)
I think my ideal TMNT 4 would mix all the universes into a single story that works. Blend the tones into one that is serious, but has its light edges. Mix the styles. Mix the obviousness of their different personalities (new toon = probably a bit overemphasized, old toon = not enough). Add some good '80s music an' off we go!

I agree with Eldor, and I also agree with Sage. After reading a few threads on these boards I'm beginning to think everyone wants the old TMNT back and not the Sci Fi TMNT we've been getting (thanks to Peter Laird). I talk with my boss about this everyone once in a while (work at a comic store). He agrees. The TMNT are the coolest when they're fighting street punks and hiding in the sewers, not when they're walking the streets and getting blasted at by Utroms. I came to the conclusion (whether it's right or not I'm unsure of) that Kevin Eastman was the guy that Peter wants Lucas to have. The guy that goes "No Pete, that's taking it too far, TMNT shouldn't be having sex with dinosaurs, they should be kicking the crap out of ninjas, or mafia, or gang members. No more utrom bullsh*t!"

While thinking about the new movie, I'm wondering about something. What if this project gets cancelled/put on hold/enters development hell. 2007 is a long time from now. I wonder on how come they'd be willing to do a cgi movie now and not the one (man, has it been YEARS now) with John Woo involved (i believe it was as a producer or something). I mean, it was JOHN WOO! Anyway, is there anybody else who has that sinking feeling that we just may NOT see this movie go through the gate (although, I guess you could say that with any movie).

well if everyone (or at least alot of people on these boards anyway) still wants the old show back on tv, then why doesn't one of us get a petition started to get the old toon back on the tv and send to the petition either to Cartoon Network/Adult Swim (the original 193 eps might possibly do well on Adult Swim if some of the A.S. audience grew up with the original TMNT toon wouldn't mind watching it on Adult Swim), USA Network (the old toon was on there for a little while), Fox, or even CBS, or whoever. They're could new eps every sunday or saturday evening for example, and reruns of the original eps and the newer ones saturday/sunday - thursday evening. As Mikey stated in the season 2 episode "It Came From Beneath The Sewer" It's just an idea.

I'm not sure it's the old toon people want back on tv (I for one would rather have all of it on DVD) but just the old styled tmnt. Not so much from the old toon, but rather most of the old mirage comics or the movie style.

I would really like that very much, yeah put it back on tv, since the dvd releases are taking long (only once a year, oy ) I wouldn't mind watching it on Cartoon network but i don't think the classic toon belongs on Adult Swim. If they are going to put anything on a late night cartton line up it needs to the new series.
