Just finished reading it. I'm not quite sure what to think of it yet, although it was definitely weaker than the last two IMO.
Dumbledore was the last person I wanted to die and now it has happened. :( He really was an awesome character and will be missed.
Snape turning out to be evil was kind of disappointing. I've read a good theory though that Dumbledore might have mentally told Snape to kill him, so Draco could be saved. His sudden pleading voice would indicate so.
Oh, and the revelation of Snape being the half-blood Prince was pretty lame and unimportant. All in all the book was a little disappointing and brings us nearer to the end of a great series.

I've not read the book yet, but damned if I don't have an opinion about it! Conspiracy theory time!

Rowling is the queen of deux ex machina! Dumbledore, for all his charm and wit, was just a shield for Harry to hide behind. With ol' Dumbles still kicking, Harry would merely keep retreating to the safety of Hogwarts. With him out of the way now, Harry's f*cked and has no choice but to go kick Voldemort's ass. Also, the whole Dumbledore/phoenix/animagus... c'mon. You know he's gonna pull an Obii-Wan-spirit-wave-at-the-end-of-Return-of-the-Jedi when Voldemort's finally gone.

I agree with everything you said.
I'm also pretty sure now that this was the weakest HP book. It was not bad but it lacked the suspense of the other books.

I was WAITING for someone to make a thread on this!!

I, also, was a bit dissapointed. Of course, I'm far more interested in Ron and Hermione than Harry or Dumbledore. I knew he was gonna die. The only thing that surprised me was Snape doing it. That, actually, disapponted me. And what the HECK. She waited until Book Seven to get Ron and Hermione together?? I so thought this book would have it, but it was pushed back a bit to make more room for Harry and Dumbledore. I mean, alot of clues were there, of course, very OBVIOUS clues... But I was hoping we'd have two books with them together, instead of just one, where the whole thing will be the war and such.

..And yes, I realize that the books are titled 'Harry Potter...' ;) :P

Yay! More discussions!! :D :D

I dunno about the "weakest" book... I enjoyed this a lot more than the 5th book. And to be considerate to those people who haven't got to "Order of the Phoenix" yet...
I thought all that crap with Cho Chang was pointless. It went nowhere and frankly was a waste of pages. As were a lot of other things in that book. It made it a really slow read because nothing happened except these silly sidestories and (of course) Harry biting everything that moves.
And now for stuff on "Half Blood Prince"....
I, too, thought it was kinda lame that Snape was the Half-Blood Prince. Mildly surprising (in that the obvious guess was Voldemort) but not shocking at any rate. And Harry was an idiot for using that stupid book; didn't he learn from the evil journal of death in the Chamber of Secrets?
Some of those romances were really odd, too. Like who they matched with who. But at least we had useful things happening...the question is, what's Harry gonna do now? I suspect that he's going to end up dying in the next book, but taking Voldemort out with him.

Rowling has said more than once that people are going to hate her. We can only guess what that's supposed to mean.

And I, on the other hand... would rather see the backstories. I cheered when Ron gave Hermione perfume and all that. I'd rather read about that, emotional and personal relationships... In tht respect, this book was kind of lacking.

And, as for that...

If you mean Lavendar and Ron? JK said that he needed that to help him grow more emotionally, so he would be ready for Hermione. I kinda disagree to an extent about that... because it makes it seem like a 'last fling before you're married' sorta thing and I don't buy into that. But it's okay. He's all Hermione's now... :D

And loads of "social drama" just isn't the sort of thing that keeps me riveted to the page.

Though... I think I wanted to smack Ron through that whole Lavender thing. It woulda been OK if he had a real reason to like her besides annoying Hermione... but that's more social drama. I think I like the quirky things that happen in peoples' lives that couldn't happen as easily in the "real" world. Like Fred and George's booming joke shop. Or exploits with Hagrid and his fuzzy critters.

I was kinda annoyed by all the "wuv"-stuff. I enjoy some good emotional content but this was more like your generic evening soap opera. Just more funny.

I loved it, but I loved all the books. I really dig the Ron/Hermione stuff. My sister and I have ridiculously deep discussions about this kind of crap, so I get into it. I personally thought this book really didn't have much happen in it. It just seemed to begin and end without any real deep mystery involved. I still thought it was awesome though.

I just finished it last night, and I loved it. I didn't think this book was lacking compared to the previous ones, I enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed reading the fifth book. In fact, I really liked the tone of this book. You know things are going to get serious now.

It seems the seventh book is going to be quite different, and it sounds very exciting. Can't wait.

I hope that they'll go back to Hogwarts, even though Harry said he won't. It's just not the same wthout the school.

I finished this book the day it came out (Yes, I made sure I wasn't doing ANYTHING else)

I think Snape and Dumbledore made an unbreakable vow so Snape wouldn't give away that he was still working for the Order of the Pheonix or that he couldn't blow his cover as a Death Eater under any circumstance.

And then its who is RAB. I have two theories on that, one is Regalus Black (Sirius's brother) because there is a mention of a locket in Book 5 in the Black Manor and it would make sense for the Death Eaters to kill him. Or it is Amelia Bones, who lasted much longer than Regalus and would have a chance to get more of the Horecruxes.

Well, I thought -

In a magazine that I read, it said that the new Minister of Magic would be the Half-Blood Prince. Goes to show you'd better not trust everything you read (-_-|)

I agree with Snape being the Half-Blood Prince - abit poor. I was reading the whole book expecting for somebody else being the Prince

With the relationships....

I thought that the relationship with Lavender and Ron would fall apart from the start. They were just kissing each other every time they were with each other :dead: all I can say is - I hope Ron and Hermione don't do the same thing!
