First Movie Script.

Ok, I know this has been done, atleast twice, but for anyone new or anyone that never got around to doing it, I got my copy of the shooting script to the first movie, it's dated April 10, 1989, and there is different scenes and dialogue, so If you have any questions about anything, I'll be more then happy to answer.

Well, what's in the extended alley fight between Casey and Raphael

[Weapon X]

There is no "Flipping over the Taxi" scene, or Raph yelling "Daaaaaaamn". Instead......

Casey takes off while Raphael struggles to free himself. He finall pops out, angrier then ever, and runs after the departing Casey, who turns a corner out of sight. Raphael turns the same corner at full speed, but that was a mistake, for Casey has reversed direction and plows a heavy shoulder into Raphael's chest, knocking the wind out of him.

Casey
I know you punkers enjoy pain. No need to thank me.

Raphael suddenly sweeps Casey's feet out from under him, deftly swinging on top and putting a strangle hold on him.

Raphael
Now who's the champ pal? Huh?

Casey
Okay, okay....you're the champ.....

Then Raph goes into a "Mr. Rogers" routine, asking Casey to say his name.

Raph gets off Casey, who lies there gasping.

Casey
Man....you're crazy...

Casey gets up and begins moving away from Raphael.

Raphael
I'm crazy?

Casey
Yeah, and dangerous.

Raphael
I'm dangerous?, I'm dangerous???

And as Raphael stands there for a moment, thinking over a new implication in his words and then throwing a trash barrel after Casey in frustration.

Probably. The above script piece doesn't have the right feel of Casey's character. If I'd heard that the script cut the taxi and the shouting of damn from the film, I'd say it would have improved the movie if it was used.

What I posted is what comes after when Raph is stuck in the trtash can, then after the little alley stnt, it goes to the scene where Splinter talks to Raph, which isn't any different.

That's not really a conclusion to the fight. Something else had to happen... :-?

Was there a different introduction to The Shredder?

Shredders intro is basically the same, except there is a scene before his "speech" where the four punks that were in the parkinglot at the beggining, try and get a bandana from his hand, Shredder dispatches them all leaving slashes one on'e shoulder, thigh, etc. If you want a whole description, ask.

I'm a huge fan of Raph, so I'm curious as to what other scenes/dialogue with Raphael were different. I especially am interested in finding out if there were scenes or dialogue between Raphael and April (in interviews the actress said there was a little bit of attraction with April/Raphael) or if there was some scenes/dialogue at the end of the film (it seemed to me that Raphael was a big force in the beginning of the film, like the talk from Splinter, losing the sai, saving April but that got dropped in the second act) with Raphael.

Ok, all of Raph's stuff was basically the same, there wasn't anything more between him or April, just, the little difference in his and Casey's fight shown on the first page, but there is the bacwards bandana scenes, which sorta show something about him. I scanned the pages, instead of writing it all out.

That scene is in the comic adaptations, along with the alternate ending. But yeah, if it hadn't been cut for time, that scene would've totally improved the movie.

Yeah, it was definitely a good decision to leave most of that extra stuff out. I think the substitute of "insurance salesmen" in the movie for "Jehovah's witnesses" is interesting. And the reason for it is probably pretty obvious.

I am really enjoying reading through all the pages.
I rewatch the first movie a lot and I always wondered about the training scene at the farm house. I swear I have heard about the extended part before and I had noticed Mikey's bandana turned around. That would have been great to leave in. I would have liked to see more happen while they were there. I know it's all about time though.

Is there any explanation in the script about the little cut of Donnie walking around outside the farm, where he seems to see something and then suddenly turns around? I think its at the start or a little before of April's narration bit... this thing has been bugging me for a decade :lol:

There may not even be a real explanation, but rather speculation of what it was, I've heard a couple different idea's, and the one I stick with is that mybe, it was a longer scene, but it was cut, so mybe April called him or something and they edited that out so he just stops and turns or something like that.

When he's fighting the Foot on the roof, the one Foot throws them over the side, he's never seen with them until their practicing/on the farm, theres speculation that Don made him a new pair, but there's nothing about a scene like that in the script, but it is in the Mirage comic adaption.

Indeed it could easily be thought of as a loophole, or a blooper.

However, if you really want to rationalize it, then you could just say that Donny made him some new sais (like you said). Or Raph could've made them himself, or one of the other turtles, who knows? The fact is, they are ninjas, and a long time ago in Japan I believe that ninjas did make their own weapons.

So... if like one of their swords or sais or nunchucks or whatever would break, they could just make new ones easily back in their village. They were probably trained to fix their weapons and to make new weapons if they lost their old ones.

Of course, you could even go further and be a little silly with it and say that April, Casey, or one of the other 3 turtles (since Raph was knocked out) grabbed the sais off the street where the foot tossed them to right before they hopped in April's van and drove to her country house. And then later Donny or Casey or someone else fixed them for Raphy.

Who knows?

But yeah, I have to agree, it is somewhat of a blooper, and it shouldn't have been overlooked. But oh well. At least now we can look back on it and laugh. ;)

All the profile information is from the official site from back in the day. There's no explanation, I guess, though. Maybe Raph goes between cereals. He's got a solid core group that he rotates so as to not get tired of one. And as for Leo and the candles, he just said he likes them, I don't think there's a huge attachment there.

Ok...i've got an Idea....from what we've seen....what was used what was cut...if you edited the movie, what scenes would you keep? What would you cut?

Ok, Id add the shells popping out of the river, add Casey's orginal intro, keep the original Casey vs Raph fight, add the scene of the punks trying to get the bandana from Shredder, add to the origin story told to April, add the scene where the young couple walks into Aprils shop, Don conversation with the Foot ninja during the apartment battle, add "The Saprano Maker", add scenes showing Leo getting kicked downstairs/fighting the foot below, add the group coming out of the building and getting into the van, add a longer scene of Mike going crazy in the barn, add scene of Don getting frustrated with a device , add Mikey on the roof of the barn, the full training scenes on the farm, add scenes of the Turtles attacking Shredder at once then keep the rest the same, and add the comic book ending.

Thats just stuff off the top of my head.

Man, I'd forgotten we weren't! Uhm, me, I wouldn't've included "Soprano Maker" or the ugly lamp personally. I didn't really like either of them in the script. A little too much getting-kicked-in-the-nuts humor for my taste. I really would've liked some of these other scenes that explore the other, non-Raph turtles more fully.

The movie is good how it is, though. It isn't too long, for instance.

Peter Laird talked about that at some point. The voices for the extra scenes were never recorded, but he wanted to make the new dvd with the very raw footage on it. Prolly won't happen, since the DVD's all ready been released twice now.

You never know, though.
