The arcade game will always be my favorite. Manhattan project was decent but I didn't like how it controlled and how you were so dependent on your special move for bosses.

I've always liked "Manhattan Project" for NES and "Turtles in Time" for Super NES!

I love playing the Turtles III: The Manhatten Project, but my favorite one of the NES series is Turtles II: The Arcade Game. It was the first TMNT NES game I ever played, and for me, it was the best one. I could play that game with my eyes closed, I've defeated it so many times.
I didn't care for the first NES Turtles game at all. And that's all I have to say about that.
But Turtles II and III are awesome!

There is no point playing arcade version on nes. The original is so much better. Nes conversion was ok, but nes didn't have enough power to make it as good.

forget you all... I have no favorites. I LOVE THEM ALL!!! From the ones on NES to the ones soon to hit PS2, Gamecube, and X-Box (I'm not saying that they will be released on those platforms).
But to answer the question... I truly love the first one the best. It wasn't a move forward and backward game. You could move all around, until it came to enetering manholes. But my favorite part was swimming and disarming the bombs in the river, that would've blown up the dam.
But if it had a different plot, like April not being caught, then they would be even better. Maybe April should carry a camera that shoots out lasers from the camera lens. :tlol: Anyway... TMNT I was my favorite NES game. It's definitely a classic.

Hmmm, kinda tough, but I think I will have to go with MP cuz it was the first I played. TMNT II was good because it was much harder than the third one, actually it wasn't too hard, but it was a hell of a lot longer...which is good cuz it challenged me. The third one was easy as hell, but it was so fun...The first one was probly one of the top 25 or 50 most difficult games ever made on the NES...it had some really crappy graphics, but nice game play and variation, but Don was the only turtle that you could probly beat it with, the others just plain sucked...I also liked the picking up weapons idea. 8)

The ROMs are back with a flash! Don't believe me? I'll tell you I've been getting roms there for the past 3 weeks now... While it still says the roms are down, they just haven't taken that notice down yet...there's plenty o' ROMs to download there, trust me. The only ones I've seen that aren't available to download are the AVP roms, but I've already got the parent ROM for that one, so it doesn't matter...
Still don't believe me? Scroll down to "download information", and you'll see a link for the ROM. (http://www.mame.dk/gameinfo/tmnt/) I am NOT BS-ing you on this one...

Hehehe...those were some of the first ROMs I've started downloading. But I have to warn you about Moo Mesa: there's a bug that prevents any possibility of beating the game. On the level "Niagara Canyon", after you beat the boss, the screen goes completely black and nothing you do will make it go away. Unfortunately there's no way to get around it for now. Maybe the next version of MAME will offer a fixed ROM...

i liked all tmnt games for NES. also i liked super mario bros 1 and 3. didn't like the gameplay for smb 2.

Tokka-B
12-19-2002, 05:54 PM
Yea, they were all good, I just liekd some better than others....Mario 1 and 3 were amazing...So was 2, but just a little tricky and different... The reason is because they made a special version of SMB 2 for America because Americans sucked at video games...Super Mario 2 in Japan was The Lost Levels which I have for All Stars and actually is pretty hard, but I beat it a fair enough times to get over the "hardness"...I was one fo the few players here who had the capability of beating a Japanese game....lol
Plus, I am not bullcrapping you guys, this is the true story... :)
Ok, now does anyone else besides me know about Hyperstone Heist? I thought it was a great game...It was like Turtles in Time, only different levels...

I don't care about your what you think Razor...For criminy's sake...GET MY FRIGGIN' NAME RIGHT!!!!!
You can see it's "Reznor", not "Razor"...
And I never asked if you cared; I'll say whatever the Hell I want on this board pertaining to TMNT...while you might not agree with me, at least it was still on the topic of discussing video games. You, on the other hand, love to type out stuff that only upsets people and frankly nobody really cares to know.
You want a better explanation of my opinion? Gladly!
Graphics: While the sprites themselves are the exact same basic design as TMNT IV (which was the best, IMO), they moved erractically, some of them looked a bit grainy (mainly the Stone Warriors/Rock Soldiers), and a lot of the scenery was too consistent and dull. The first and last parts of Scenes 1 and 2 specifically had little variation. All you did was hit and go, hit and go. Very little interactivity with the surrounding environment. In other words, NO FUN.
Difficulty: Broadening upon the last statement, the Foot Soldiers attacked in waves so tightly packed together that it took no time to eliminate them. One, two, three, four hits and all 4 or 6 of them were down. Their attacks were extremely predictable. Even the shield Foot Soldiers could be taken down easily. Just jump-kick them once, hit them from behind while they're incapacitated, and repeat the process three more times. Bye bye Foot Soldiers, bye bye fun challenge. The same lack of challenge comes with the Mousers and Roadkill Rodneys. Groups of mousers go down with one smack. What a breeze, right? Too bad that's no fun. Let's not forget the bosses. So predictable, so boring, so...STUPID! Just like the regular enemies, they attack in easily evadable patterns that never change. Hit the boss, hit the boss, hit the boss, hit the boss, boss runs to the other side of the screen, gives the same attack. Go through the whole process again. Later, rinse, and repeat.
SFX/Music: I simply despise the quality of the MIDI synthesis for the Hyperstone Heist. At most there are probably about 5 instruments used for the synthesizer. It sounds like something that comes out of a 5-year-old's music box. Not to mention it's just plain cacophonic; just a bunch of enhanced beeps and rumbles that are lousy excuses for drum rolls. Listen to the synthesis of TMNT 4 if you want decent game music. What about the SFX, you ask? Oy, horrible quality, totally unrealistic, unbelieveably high-pitched and scratchy (Tatsu, anyone?), just overall horrible. None of the SFX sound like something from a 16-bit system.
Play Options: No Time Trial mode. No Versus mode. 'Nuff said.
Are you happy now? Thanks to you I've had to take time out of studying for my last final tomorrow and instead waste it on having to prove my point to you. Consider yourself pounded into the ground. This should teach you, Tokka, from now on never to get in an argument with me, because you'll lose miserably.

Hm... be nice guys...
Anyways, I have 2 definitions of my Favourite TMNT game...
The first one would be the one that sparked the most hysteria in me when it came out, and was a game I could never put down. That game would have to be TMNT II: The Arcade Game.
But if I compare all the current turtle games to date, my favourite one would have to be TMNT IV: Turtles in Time. If I'm going to go back and play a Turtle game, that would be it, since it's so fun...
My high score in TMNT IV is 1356 with Leonardo, and I'm pretty sure I could get higher as well.

I can agree with that. Giving all the turtles their own area of "specialty" really made it a fun game. Sometimes me and my brother still play the VS mode to see who really is the "top" turtle.
And you didn't have to worry about characters being better than the other ones, like in the first TMNT for the NES. Donatello was easily the best turtle, and without him, you were sorta screwed.
Just a quick question here, who still has their old NES hooked up to their TV along with their other game systems? I do, and I still have all the TMNT games to go with it too!

That's too bad. In my house, my parents wouldn't allow us to sell our video games, and I'm glad they didn't! The main reason was that you would by them for about $30, and you could sell them only at about $15, so ever since then, I've kept all the video games I've had.

Allow me to quote you from a previous post:WTF?!?! Half-assed? Is that a way to describe a video game???You practically asked me to go into detail. At least that's how I interpreted it...geez It is the SAME EXACT game as TMNT 4 just better with different levels. What planet are YOU from? You saw how throughly I picked at Hyperstone Heist on its flaws. It was Sega's lousy excuse for a Turtles In Time clone.Rinse and repeat is something you have to get used to if you know anything about classic beat em ups...I'll tell what a good beat-'em-up is: there's very little predictability of enemy attacks, more interactivity with the surrouding, and just an overall challenge, something The Hyperstone Heist doesn't have. BTW, the game is not that old. The original arcade game was better than both Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist put together IMO, despite some of the capabilities the newer games had....but I am glad you wasted your own time to type out the most absurd comments on this boardNo more absurd and completely stupid than the following by you:, and because of this, you deserve to fail your final... Since when was one of my tests a matter of concern? I just merely mentioned it. Besides, it's too bad for your sake that not only did I take my hardest final today with a breeze, but the one I'm taking tomorrow morning happens to be the subject I'm best in: Latin.Saying I will lose miserably in an argument takes the meaning that you get into arguments quite often and are "good" at themYou're looking at guy who aced his Public Speaking class here.there is no winning in an argument I hope you knowLike there's no winning a war, ey? Don't you dare make that comment again. My English class just finished the subject of argumentive writing, which the goal is to WIN AN ARGUMENT. Once you take a dual credit course such as the one I'm in, you'll begin to understand my point.and I am sure most mods know this as it is a rule of thumb for them...geez Quite frankly, I don't the mods give a flying frick about what's going on right now; in fact, I'll bet they're laughing their heads off at your stupidity right now. You have the nerve to say my comments are absurd when in fact 90% of the stuff you post on this board not only has very little if anything to do with the topic at hand but practically begs somebody to flame you. Most of the time that "somebody" is me, but at least I have the will to give you a dose of your own medicine.
Grow up.

Ok Razor,
You should see how you are the only one calling it an argument, I think that is proof enough, geez.
I did not imply anything, you assume too much, which will get you into trouble someday...
Hyperstone Heist is still way better. You blame it on Sega that they "ripped-off" TMNT 4, yet Sega didn't make TMNT!!! KONAMI DID< NOW RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TYPE!!!
Whatever, that is your opinion of a good beat em up...I won't get into opinion wars....
Good, I hope you have fun with your Latin final, you being the Latin lover here...
For a guy who aced public speaking, you should know that public speaking is about debating, NOT ARGUING!!! You, however, have not found the difference yet...
I was correct when I said there is no winning an argument, and there is also no winning in a war. There is winning in a debate though, you however still have yet to nkow what one is.
You have any proof they are laughing at my "stupidity"? If they were laughing at anything I'd call it showing you who is right, lol...BTW, video games do fit in a video game forum, so therefore the part you said I go off topic is completely false.
Grow up?! How old are you young lad?

What games do you have for GCN? Curious
That's true, they were usually $30-$50 a game, and using today's technology, it probably cost them about $2 to make a game. Back in the good ol' 80's though, it probably cost them like $15.
The games that I have for my GCN are...
Luigi's Mansion
Super Mario Sunshine
Crazy Taxi (It was a gift, don't laugh  )
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Rogue Squadron
Super Smash Brothers Melee

While there is an excuse that the arcade port to the NES wasn't exactly the best game in the world (and that would be considering the technology of the time), it still sucked none the less.
I'll second (or third, or fourth) the notion that TMNT 3 was the best game on the original NES. It was challenging for the system that it was on without being too hard (I've only beaten it once in my life though), and it gave plenty of variety. Now if only the NES rom of it wasn't screwed up, I'd enjoy it more now!

I've beaten the first Mario Game for the NES start to finish 8 times without losing all of my men. Once you beat the game, you'll start back at 1-1 again, so you can just complete it again until you get bored...
Anyone remember the lost world in that game? Once you entered it though, you couldn't get out.
Super Mario 3 = Best Mario game in my opinion. It's one of the best video games around as well.

to answer another comment a poster brought up previously, Mike and Raph are the 'top turtles' in TMNT IV.

Yeah i know, i couldn't beat it either, and i didn't tried too much because i got frustrated and stopped playing it :P
Man that game was hard :ohwell:
As for mario 3, it was a great game specially for the nes, i loved the graphics and playability too (tho i prefer mario 2, but that's a personal opinion, most people hated that one and it's definitely not at the level of mario 3's greatness :P )

well i just finished TMNT #1 without using Don (except for a bit). let me explain . . . i kept him until after the dam level and when i finsished that level with two guys :o i killed him off. then i decided to rescue him again . i never touched him since until inside the technodrome where there are a bunch of flying snipers in that one hallway after you get the invincibility. but to clarify things, i didn't use dons bow, i used the scrolls that i gave him. (all my other turtles were almost dead so i had no choice  )
So I made it from the start to the half way point of the technodrome with 3 turtles and then i used a "neutral" turtle to finish the game. Not bad eh
and to comment on another post, what lost world in Mario 1 ???

You mean - 1? Getting there was pretty hard, you needed to go trough a wall.
And best Mario game of all time is Yoshi's Island. SMB 3 comes close second.

Ah yes....The Lost World, that was a fun neverending level, lol. Although, I think you can only get their with a game genie or with an incredible amount of luck...
Karpo, you reminded me of Yoshi's Island!!!!! That was an awesome game, so much replay value, heh...
I have beaten the first Mario game easily, as I have done always, it is fun, cause when you win, they make it a bit harder when you start over...heh. This was easily the easiest Mario game I think.

do you need a code for it or is it hidden in a certain level somewhere? (lostworld)

All I know about it is the game genie can get you there, but I never tried to get there without it, I don't know if there is a way...

Yeah you can get there without game genie. You need to go trough a wall in 1-2 to the warp pipes. Then just choose any pipe and you will be in -1. But I can't remember anymore how to go trough that wall. You had to jump or something.

is it the wall when you are at the warp pipes or is it at the place before the warp pipes where you can continue on normally?
please be a bit more specific cause i don't understand . . . maybe i'm stupid or something . . .
thanks

There is a pipe wich you use if you want to finish the stage 1-2. and behind that pipe is a walll, and behind that wall are warp pipes. You need to go trough that wall, but how excactly, I don't know.

I liked both TMNT for nes and turtles in times for snes about the same, however if I HAD to pick only 1, i'd have to go with turtles in time, the graphix were alot better, and i liked the music =D (i still love that big mouser from TMNT though!!)
