So yeah..after playing Guilty Gear X2...I'm totally hooked to old school 2d fighters..heh

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions of some other good ones? Preferably on Xbox or the Cube. But even clear back to the Dreamcast...

Thanks guys.. :)

So just Xbox, Gamecube and Dreamcast?

That...limits my suggestions, as I don't own two of those systems and Gamecube really isn't hip with the 2D fighters.

Street Fighter III: Third Strike is considered the culmination of the Street Fighter series, and I believe that one is available on Dreamcast. You can also get it on the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection which was released for PS2 and (I think) Xbox.

If you still have a functioning Super Nintendo, I'd highly recommend Samurai Showdown. It's like Soul Calibur only in 2D.

And if you have a PS1/2, the first Marvel vs Capcom is a must.

I Thoroughly enjoyed SNK VS. Capcom 2 for GC (Except that stupid "GC-ism" mode), but if you have a Dreamcast you have access to a MASSIVE amount of fighting games.

Street Fighter III: Double Impact
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolf
SNK vs. Capcom
(japanese)SNK vs. Capcom 2
Marvel Vs. Capcom
At least one version of King Of Fighters

That's all the 2-d I can think of off-hand, but if you don't mind 3-D there's also...

Soul Calibur
Virtua Fighter 3
Dead or Alive 2
Power Stone
Heavy Metal: Geomatrix
And probably more!

Also, X-box has an online version of SNK Vs. Capcom 2, and a crappy port of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC chaos. And, I have my own 2-D fighter in development for PC.

Dreamcast:

Marvel vs. Capcom
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Street Fighter III Third Strike
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Saturn version is better but impossible to find)
Capcom vs SNK
Capcom vs SNK 2 (import)
Any King of Fighters game
Darkstalkers Chronicles

Xbox:
Hyper Street Fighter II Anniversry Edition
Capcom vs SNK 2 (Same as Dreamcast version)
King of Fighters 2000/2001 Combo

Do NOT, and I repeat do NOT buy Capcom vs SNK 2 for Gamecube. The control scheme is raped, and the game was stripped down because Capcom is stupid. Get one of the other two versions. They both play the same (I tested them myself). But keep in mind, after you play Street Fighter III Third Strike on Dreamcast, everything else looks tame, even Guilty Gear X2 ;) I recomend saving it for last, and it goes for a pretty penny on Ebay for Dreamcast. You can get it on Xbox though, so no problem.

SNK vs. Capcom 2 for GC is fine as lone as you have an arcade joystick (or at least a more normal 3rd party controller) and remember to select AC-ism instead of GC-ism.

GC-ism is the "stripped-down" version that Third Mario Bro is complaining about and I do wish they had an option at the option menu to disable that.

Yeah, its sh*t and cheap. It also ruins the game when you've known how to pull quarter rolls and reversals since kindergarden. Makes me want to puke. Meh, anyways...

I also recomend Rival Schools (I think there's a Dreamcast game). Its basically just Street Fighter Alpha 3 with panty shots, but hey, who's complaining. :D

A friend of mine says Street Fighter 4 is going to be unveiled soon. Anyone know if this is true?

Damn, thanks everyone..heh. Didnt expect all that...

I guess i'll start with picking up the Street Fighter Anniversry edition.. That seems like the best place to start.

*sigh* I posted a thread last night with the same news, but it turned out to be a different action game and not Street Fighter IV. I deleated the thread hoping no one had read it and gotten their hopes up.

The rumour has been going on for some time now. There's a chance that it will as Street Fighters character designer has rejoined Capcom, but its not happening at the moment.

I saw the thread and got my hopes up :(

Sorry dude. :( I shouldn't have posted it so fast. I thought it was real. The Street Fighter team have been completely ressembled at Capcom though, so there is more hope than there ever was. They were disbanded after Third Strike. That's why Capcom Fighting Jam was such a soulless steaming pile of...yeah. Now that those guys are back, you never know.

And the reason the rumor started going around is because the name Street Fighter IV was at one point on the list for unveiling at the Japanese Arcade Convention. They now deny it, but then they go and decide to release Street Fighter Alpha 3 for PSP, and I hear they're giving funding to Udon to keep the comic going.

I really do feel something coming in the next gen at some point.

I've been hoping for that one for a LONG time. THAT could make me consider getting a next-gen system.

I came here to recommend Street Fighter III: Third Strike, but about fifty-hundred other people have already beaten me to it. Oh well. SF3TS is by far the best 2D fighter out there. Coming close though? Capcom vs. SNK2, and then Street Fighter Alpha 3.
