If you came this far, then I suggest you read the rest of the post.
So, I've noticed the horrible tecnique that some people here use when describing happenings (as in these RolePlaying threads) and the like.
Extremely ucomfortable to read.
There are four types of writing you should use.
The regular text, "For speaking, just make sure you put these ":s around them" .
The regular text should also be used when "YOU'RE SHOUTING", remember to use capital letters though.
Then we have the Narrator text. You write it in Italic. Ex. As time passed, more and more people replied to the thread.
Let's say you think something. These people probaly think I should mind my own business. After all, they've made some huge threads.
So, to think, use the bold text.
Just a suggestion, keep this in mind. It'll make some things a hole lot easier.
Deepflame finishes his strange speach, makes some kind of sign with his hand and then dissapears in an apocalyptic fire that appeared from his very feet.

kya dumps water over the ashes just like any good GRRRL Scout would. She stomps out the embers and shovels some loose dirt over the fire site.
kya: (to the world at large) Only YOU can prevent Thread Fires.
*she exits stage left.*
...
dude... everybody's got a system. Shrug if you can't adapt, then maybe you should get better glasses or something. :P i'm just happy when everyone in my thread can speeka de inglich.

Seriously, the * concept's irritating as hell.

*frowns* We've been using it for at least a year, and you're the only person I know of who's complained about it.
Can I be a Thread Scout, Kya?

Frowns back in disgust for the *:s used by the others.
Just as some kind of revenge for something he imagined earlier that day, Deepflame starts several Thread fires throughout the forum.

You start flooding or flaming, buddy, and you're gonna get yer butt kicked out of here in a hurry.
We also find something annoying. Newcomers who try to take charge without first learning how we do things. Just chill, and get to know us. We like the way we do our RPing. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to be rude about it. (referring to the 'disgust' remark)

The 'disgust' remark wasn't supposed to sound like that, I'm sorry ;)
But seriously, it works a 'lil better this way.
Did I 'take charge'? You didn't have to replie or read this post, mind you.

Ahh, yes "I suggest, just suggest, that you look here."

Tread lightly, Deepflame. You don't want to tweak ppl off right off the bat. Ask Heretic.
*ahem* Thank you for the suggestions, Deepflame, but don't be offended if people don't slap their foreheads and cry out "OH MY GOD! HE'S RIGHT, I'VE BEEN AN IDIOT!" We aren't here for your convenience, and we don't play for your convenience. We play how we play. You are free to start your own RP with a full set of grammar rules, if you so wish.

Well said, Kali.
Deepflame, I too often find different ways of role playing to be quite annoying but I am able to do something very borgish... ADAPT
(resistance is futile, you will be assimulated into the * clan!)
sorry, my wierd sense of humor kicking in.
My way of role playing is different from yours, I write as if I'm writing a book. My characters speak with double quotes and think with single ones and some times I just describe what they are thinking with out them.
Exaple:
Jade wondered why deepflame even bothered to try and complain; what, did deepflame actually believe that everything would just suddenly change? In Jade's opinion, it was ill concieved of Deepflame to post such a thing even with the 'I suggest, just suggest' part in his topic line. She found it annoying how people had forgotten the main purpose for role play games was to have fun, (however she had to admit that at times she too had forgotten this); role play games, in her opinion, were for those who played them and not for those who read them. Therefore, Deepflame had no bearing in his complaint... she had yet to see Deepflame in a role play game here at the Technodrome Forums.
I do stuff like that? is THAT annoying? Maybe to you, but not to me, why? because thats the way i post, you ahve a problem with it?
Well...
too bad. Live with different styles, dude.

Nah.. don't feel bad Deep. I'm a bit of a perfectionist myself... and I kicked up some dust here too when I first entered the Drome. But I only got my way if it was something that applied to the "stay-on-topic" or "don't be R rated" forum rules.
The rest of the time, I just learned to adapt to it or just avoid what does irk me. ;) As far as RPG's go... I use two styles. When I am in the serious RPGs involving many other characters, I write it like a book, with the character speak in quotes.
But when I am referring to my OWN actions in most non-RPG posts (like in General Discussion), then my actions will be encased in the astericks. Does that help understand this strange use of * ? :D
No, no one should hold a grudge for this suggestion. *looks pointedly at the other posters* And for the record, in most of the RPs, I do use story/book format. But in most of the posts and threads here, like this one, it's a discussion, a conversation. Talking. And we aren't using quotes now. It's a different format. The only true RP I use the * for actions is Dia De Los Muertos, part of the long running ATFT RP saga, and that's only because it started as a random discussion/conversation and somehow evolved. We just didn't bother to change our format.

Deepflame, I'm not mad and you haven't lost me as a friend. I was just pointing out that the way you said was good was not my style at all. As an aspiring writer, I use the same way I would write a narative story or book. No hard feelings.
