View Full Version : Are They Still Gonna Say COWABUNGA!!!
Turtle X

I wonder if the Turtles are gonna still gonna say Cowabunga!! or Turtle Power!!! You know like thier old Catch Praises!! what do you think???
I don't know. I hope they at least to a couple hints or "tributes" to the old show. Like inside jokes or such. I could see a well placed Cowabunga, but not every five minutes, or even every episode.
"Turtle Power" and "Turtles fight with honor" and some of those lines just got on my nerves if they were used too often.
Karpo_007

There might be "Cowanbunga" in it, who knows. Probably not "Turtle Power". ANd in Mirage the Line goes "Turtles die with honor" but that might be too heavy for the kids.
Jephael

I can see the "Fight with honor!" line coming back, but the other ones might not be used. I'd like to see them use that clip they had in the CGI trailer when Michaelangelo started saying "Cowabun-" and Raph stopped him.

Considering they say Cowabunga in the intro itself (ok, the Fox Box intro, but it was THERE nonetheless), the line will probably show up. In moderation though, like the movies.

Yeah, the CGI clip is exactly how they should handle the Turtles. Okay, so maybe not exactly but it was really good. Nice action and humor combo.

I don't really like CGI, it puts amazing artists like BigThew out of business...plus it is the real thing.
Cowabunga will probly be used every so often, but they will probably think of a new word or something, cause I don't think many people still say wierd phrases like gnarly nowadays. If they want it to fit the new show, they will invent a new catch phrase.

No, it doesn't. And I quote Chris Hart, "Computers can render, animate and do a host of wonderful things. But they cannot create from scratch. There is always a need for people who can draw freehand. That's where computer character models come from."
I hope to go into the business myself. Artists will never become obsolete.

I use "old slang" all the time. Along with using "Dude" to mean anything from "Hey you!" to "That was sweet!" to "That's just sick." I just hope the catch phrases are better than those in TNM.

what do u mean quotes from tnm?
"It's Green Time!" "Raph and Roll!" "Shellquake!"
As much as I love the show, lines like that made me cringe.

NTTNM had the worst catch phrase ever thought up
But the guys costumes were great! :D
They had "mega-motification" in the CGI clip, which Don used to describe their new wheels. Didn't like that one.

I can see Turtle power showing up if done in the right way, maybe having them run on a tread mill to power a generater to power dons computer and one of then off handedly saying "great Turtle power" Ok bad example, but if done right I can see it some how worked in.
Karpo_007

Well they are not going to run around screaming "Turtle Power!" or "Go green machine!" Like they did in the old cartoon. It's going to be much more serious.

Yes my thoughts exactly.
I'll be more than satisfied if the new show's atmosphere was comparable to the '90s Spiderman, has an in-depth storyline, character development, and incoporates stories and characters from the Mirage series. Throw in weapon use and I will be the happiest TMNT fan around.

then they went into Secret War were only the then original Iron Man, Human Tourch and Storm revised their voices. Then we went into the War of the Spider-Mans as I call it, bunch of spider-mans from diffrent reallities brought together by Madam Web and the Beyonder to stop Spider-Carnage from distroing all worlds. Scraler Spider, Metal Armor Spider-Man, Doc Oc Spider-Man(Toy), 6 armed Spider-Man, and an actor playing Spider-Man. Of course Spidey Won, we got to see Gwen Stacy married to Armor Spidey and his Giant Spider robot. Oh and Spider-man meet Stan Lee
Thats pretty much how the series ended, never did find out what happened to MJ. And I hope it isn't like Spidey, at least not in the way they reused the same scenes over and over again

*shakes her head* I have to agree. I mean, I did and still do kinda like the old show. But that doesn't mean I want the new show to be exactly like it. That would be boring.
I also wouldn't want the new show to take pot shots at the old show. I mean a couple in-jokes are good. Like having them watching "The Evil Alien Brain From Dimension X" or complaining about not being decent pizza delivery. As long as they're in passing, and don't take away from anything else. We older fans would get a good laugh out of those. Like Mike's "Cowa-somethin'or-other" in the new comic. And the "We thought about wearing different colored bandannas, but that would be just stupid." (Note: All quotes are approximate.)

Its funny but with out the the cartoon the vast amjority of the comics wouldn't exist. Jast a hand full of people would know who they were and the chances of this board existing would be slim.
Yes the original Comics would still exist but the chances of exerything existing would be slim including this new show.
So show a little respect, the chances of you liking the comic as much as you do if their was only the comic to look at and nothing else turtle in existance isn't as good

The comic books was the best selling Black&white comic book of the 80's. The TMNT would exsist without the cartoon, but of course it would be much less popular. Of course we wouldn't have had seen the First movie either, but the down side is that two sequals we're made.
The cartoon's existence has botpsitive and negative sides. Postive are the fact that it Made TMNT more popular, Gave money to Mirage studios.
Negative is that now Majority is unawere of the True TMNT, they just think it's a children's thing. Of course without it's exsistence the new show probably wouldn't come true either.
Personally I think it's good that it was made. I really Loved it as a kid, And im sure everyone else did too. Now that im older, I read the Mirage comics. Many people discovered the True TMNT after the cartoon, and so it is not so bad thing. TMNT can work for Kids and for Older people. Mirage comics and cartoon have proved that.

point taken
Little inside jokes would be great, like in the X-Men movie where Wolverine comments about his suit, and Cyclops says, "What do you prefer, yellow spandex?" and in Spider-man, Aunt May's "You can't do everything, you're not Superman you know." Too bad they cut out Stan Lee trying to cell a kid red glasses like "The ones they wore in X-Men" in the Spidey flick. But yea, jokes like that would be great.

*sai* I wish I knew that back in 85, when I was all into collecting Transformer and Elf Quest comics.
But the first movie smacked me upside the head, threw me on the TMNT bandwagon, and I found myself in the comic store digging up all the ancient Mirage artifacts I could find.
Whoa.. cowabunga!
BTW.. the turtle only made the saying 'cowabunga' popular. It really has nothing to do with TMNT or surfing, since the expression was first invented from a 1950's Howdy Doody show.

Pointly post about the cameos
Yesterday I was watching Oliver and Company on WB for lack of better programing, that and I like the songs (love Joel and Lewis) anyway during dogers song we get 3 dogs from lady and the Trap and Pongo from 101 Dalmations. They don't do anything but they are using the exact same chacter moldes.
This would work in the new show, we don't really need the chartes to do anything but to maybe have Irma or a human bebop in the backgroud of one ep would be a nice tribute to the older fans with out detracting from the story. Like having Channel 6 be on a TV screen for a second, nothing big just something that sharp eyed older fans may find entertaining.

Ever noitce that in the Mirage Comics the human characters' faces never
look the same in two consecutive panels??
Well, I don't have a problem with that, since it's rather hard to draw something exactly the same every time. Expressions change, hair moves, there are time constraints. As I'm finding out, drawing comics isn't exactly easy.
