Unfortunately when I lost intrest in TMNT for awhile my mom donated every single TMNT and G.I. Joe figure I had. I have decided to start recollecting TMNT figures. and it begins: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5998664491&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Great place to start, and a great price. That's the fan club form figure probably with soft head, I think that's the first released Leonardo but I'd wait to hear that from TMNTman because I forget how it goes.
I paid $20 and I don't think mine was in as good condition, though I bought mine like 6 years ago. You're not going to open it are you? :o

Thats is the first edition Leonardo. Only the first released had the fan club forms. They have soft heads and pale flat yellow chests.
$10.50+ shipping is a great price to get it for. Most 1988 Turtle figures you see are rereleases that are not the originals with soft heads.
And I would say thats a great place to start.
Funny thing I started with a soft head / Fan club form Raph and the soft head Rocksteady.
I think thats a great place to start. I myself have to yet get any of the fanclub versions but I'm just waiting to get them at a good price (plus I've been working on my Pop-up displays lately)...so good job and welcome back to the fun (sometimes aggravating if dealing on eBay) world of collectiong!!

That's actually how my TMNT obsession restarted. I decided a few years ago to purchase the original ten and only them MOC... And then I started picking up loose ones and other MOC figures when I saw them... And now, three/four years later, I have hundreds of figures, a ton of playsets and vehicles, thousands of loose accessories, movies, miscel, etc...
But hey, I didn't completely fail. I did get the original ten MOC AND loose in that time... Good luck

How can you tell if its a soft head for sure?As the funny thing here on my end is I have purchased like almost every figure and veichle/play sets ect of the new series for my son but after I got him the old cartoon DVD season one he asked if I could get him some old Turtles and that is the 1st one I came across.its also sealed and cost me like $3 Canadian off some fleamarket guy.its dated 1988.He keeps asking to open it along with the other 3 old school figures he has but I keep telling him ill find him a open one.

There are lots of loose sets on ebay if you look around. Or post in the trades section here that you are looking for some
Well...keep it sealed if you plan on starting a MOC collection as well...if you just want a few figures, then go ahead and open her up...but if you do want it sealed, you can find tons of the loose figures for very reasonable prices on ebay so take a look...

Don't open those, the reissues from kb toys circa the late 90's were made with much sturdier plastic. Chances are if you open up an old soft head figure the elbow joint will break off. Overall the reissues or later release original figures were made to be played with.

I was just thinking all that recently myself....hehe...
I just started re-collecting & it's really hard to say..."well, I guess I could live without Irma" or whatever....but I'm just not sure if I can!! ;-D
Did Playmates ever release all 4 Turtles & accessories in the one box set, like they did not too long ago with these latest figures?

Yes actually, this box set to be exact.

Good luck with restartin', Silent FOx. A long time ago there was this Foot Solider on eBay and I bid on it but I lost. I never had luck with the world's biggest online marketplace. Luckily I know of a collectible store and they have some vintage TMNT figures.

I didn't notice the post that you got '88 Shredder MOC, another good find.
Ohhh and If you want to get every single "FIGURE" from the old toy line you'll pay upwards to $6,543. :D

Shred - head came yesterday. I need to find out where I'm gonna keep these things, maybe some kinda shelf or something :-?

Keep them out of sunlight and if you are keeping them out in the open make sure to dust 'em once and awhile. They can get pretty faded from sunlight/artificial light.
My 1988 MOC collection is in a glass case

I think when I get enough figures I will get a glass case and start keeping the there, for now I'm keeping them in the boxes they were shipped with. I eventually hope to have all of 88 MOC and then I wanna get some loose figures to play around with.

Oh definitely. I picked up a pretty cheap glass case at Ikea... The top and bottom are wood, and then the shelves and sides are all glass. It's about five and a half feet tall and can hold quite a few loose figures if you pack them in. It is good for the loose figures but I have two carded figures on the back of each of the four shelves.
I love my carded ones dearly but have a loose version of every since one because it is always a lot of fun to display them together. Loose figures are easy to come by though. I have about 200+ loose on display and about 800+ that are doubles and triples stored away.
But yeah, dust and light are evil enemies.. Especially of the older carded figures.

Yeah....I left a few Simpsons figures in the sun for 3 months & their colours went all mad....
On another note, I have also only recently started collecting the classic line...I have just won an eBay auction with all the Turtles, Splinter & Usagi all with their weapons....though they are loose....
This is sooo sweet, as I currently only have 4 versions of April, The Channel 6 Van & The Turtle Wagon....oh, & princess Mitsu
Next item will be the original sewer playset :D

Well I have to sympathize with the new collectors. Three years ago all I wanted was the original ten and a party wagon... And now I don't have enough room to display my collection. I have as many figures out as I can and all the vehicles, accessories, etc in boxes. But yeah, collecting them is a lot of fun! From the bedroom, to the living room, to the kitchen.. Every spare space is covered with TMNT merchandise. It is crazy but fun.

Well I only plan on getting a few of the non mains....
I got all the Aprils as I generally collect most female figures & I also wasn't sure which one I'd want for display....(definately the second sculpted head one with original body & orange stripes)...
I also have to get Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang (with body, in scale version), Shredder, a bunch of Foot soldiers & the rest of the women made...barring Aprils....though I may get 'ravishing reporter'...
The sewer playset will be awesome though....Is there some good accessories that you can put in there? (from the Turtles line). I saw someone put a punching bag in there..which came with bebop or something...anything else?
The original one was kinda bare below...in comparison to the new one (which I think is freakin awesome :D ) but it will still be very cool to have & display the figures in none the less...
Wow....I fully forgot...I won another eBay auction a few days ago & got Vernon, Burke & Irma....
I have the Channel 6 news vans & all those Aprils, It seems logical to get the rest of the news crew...
These ones will be MOC, but I will be opening them anyway...I am all about displays :D

Questions:
Would the Channel 6 news van fit on top of the original sewer playset?

Would the Channel 6 news van fit on top of the original sewer playset?
Well my TMNT Part Wagon did and that's what they used for the Channel 6 Vans mold, so I'd say yeah.

The pics of it don't clearly show the top section....is that actually a driveway for the van on top there where there seems to be some kind of vent...
If anyone would be kind enough to post a pic of the top, perhaps with a vehicle on there, that would be great...
