My all time fav are The Dixie Chicks. Then probably SheDaisy, Garth Brooks, Reba...
I know there are others, I just can't remember them right now. And not just from country, but pop and soft rock, but I can never seem to remember the artists.

I just like saying I like Eminem to see the reaction it causes people. It's funny how some people get soooo worked up over the iffy artists, like it's some political life/death, peace/war matter.
Eminem is one of those where I like his top hits, but I don't like HIM... nor would I go all out to see any of his concerts. Many other artists fall in that same category, like Linkoln Park, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, GnR. (And yeah.. I know that LP is a heavy rock version of a boyband)
To me.. music is just music as long as it sounds good. I don't really care who it's by. Unless it's U2. I reeaaallly like that group as one of my all time, top favs. :D

I honestly dont give a **** what other people think about music. Eminem is a great artist, and so i like him....
To me.. music is just music as long as it sounds good.
The greatness of art is determined not by the object of art itself, but the depth of the artist expressing it..... so yeah, who the music is by pretty much determines if the music is good or not.

*drops jaw* Next to my husband and my RL friend, you're the first person online that I've witnessed to actually admit liking Eminem! :o
I'm a bit picky about rap music. The run of the mill gangsta stuff that goes on about the F word, booz, and bitches does get boring. Bleeeeeeh! But when the rap is a unique sound, or it rehashes a popular melody or classic music, I like it alot. Used to like Salt n Peppa, Boyz II Men, and Will Smith too. Or the reggae/rasta man sounds. Then you have groups like Beastie boys, that blends rap and rock together. Kickin!
Skate/Punk rock is cool too. I also dig music music by Green Day, Smash Mouth, Blink 182, and on the occasion, 311. Oh.. and Jimmy Eats World has a sweet sound too! :D
heretic888
12-16-2002, 09:59 AM
If you want to get into some pretty good rap, I would suggest DMX, Eminem, Nas, and Tupac. Wu Tang is pretty good too, but not for everybody. Biggie was awesome too. Stay away from Snoop, Jay Z, and P Diddy though......
No offense I don't like any of the 'pop rap' groups you mentioned! :D
Listen to Tool. They will blow you away. Nin, too.

I'll say it again Tupac is a legend.
*plays when thugs cry*
Yeah he's the bomb!
The reson why allot of ppl show hate towards eminem is because nearly all of his songs are about killing his mummy, stepson, ****, moby or he raps about stupid issues. No one can get a good feeling if all he raps about is killing ppl and ****ing cristina agulara the only decent song by him is 'loose your self' thats because he doesn't talk about him self in the song (to a certian aspect) and not about killing his mum. the same he is the oppisite to tupac...
tupac : acts black and loves to act black and was so proud to be black
eminem: delusioned about being black, and a rumor going around he got punched in his face cause he said what up *****!
tupac: loved his mum supports his mum even though her addiction forced him out of home
eminem: has serious issuse about his mum, although it's not proven that she did half the **** or why he has a major prob, em's bro seems to be chill with her
tupac: battle raps about ppl who shot him
eminem: battle raps to make him self feel good
tupac: makes u feel good and has loads of meaning
eminem: just messed up has allmost no meaning
tupac: honust rapper, who has lived though all the hard times
eminem: love to listen to his ******** lies
tupac: supports childhood friends and ppl struggling, and brought many ppl to the game and supported charrity
eminem: sadly couldn't care less, and is loosing his bond with D12 and is hardly helping his bro with the record label deal.
- btw i'm exreamly sorry if i offended u, i don't ask for war im just saying that eminem is the complete opisite with tupac, even though he idoles him. and it's sad to here rappers going pop and final note IM HAPPY TO SEE LL COO J BAK!

Tupac = Greatest Rapper of all time....
Eminem = Confused little boy
that's a comparison, besides the comparison was to show the irony that Eminem favourite rapper was Pac and it's just really wired how in so many ways he is different. And to call him a creative ginues would be a little too much because i could call a murder who worte how he wants to kill his wife in full detail creative. Wiich is pretty much what he has done, and rhymeing with me is easy but when all u say is me ain't creative.
heretic888
12-21-2002, 11:03 AM
once again, regardless of that childish narrow-minded comparison eminem is one of the most creative artistic greats hip hop as a genre has ever produced, as is tupac. you seem to think these people's personal lives and past experiences (or lyrical content) actually has anything to do with their value as artists. it does not. these ethical judgments concerning art are worthless.
FreshRazz

1) I'm not asking for a fight
2) I'm just expresing an opion
3) I don't truly hate eminem
4) My only reason to compare is to show how bizzare it is that Eminem admires Tupac yet he is in so many ways oppisite.
5) I just dislike Eminem a little just beacuse he is allways dribbling shiot about killing people.
6) I'm just woundering what Eminem's values are he only seems to act all hard core all the time.
heretic888
12-21-2002, 11:17 PM
1) neither am I
2) good for you
3) see number 2
4) its not so bizarre considering eminem admires tupac for his skills as a MUSICIAN.
5) like Mr Mathers had said, don't take what he says so seriously
6) see number 5

rap is no more 'crap' than any other musical genre. what it really boils down to is the band/individual, and not the genre or style.

I hate to break this to you, child, but just because YOU don't appreciate and/or understand a certain artist does not mean they are inherently 'crap'. Once again, it ultimately depends on the individual artist/band.. NOT the genre or style.
Oh, by the way, if you think they are so 'talentless' i would like to see YOU take a crack at hip-hop......

Anyway, there's been a thread on this before, but I'll go ahead and list some of my favorite groups/artists in no particular order:
Nine Inch Nails (hence my username)
Metallica (older)
KMFDM
Korn
Orgy
New Order
Depeche Mode
Disturbed
Ministry
Skinny Puppy
2 Unlimited (ok, so maybe that is a little dancy, but I like it)
Alice In Chains
Tool
Eiffel 65
Godsmack
Gravity Kills
Judas Priest
Kid Rock
Megadeth
Pantera
Static X
And for comedic purposes, Weird Al Yankovic
Other stuff that I have no specific artist is:
80s
Classic 70s rock
Hard rock (but not hardCORE, like GWAR)

John Carpenter
Jerry Goldsmith (most known for his Star Trek stuff)
John Williams (mainly Star Wars)
And I'll admit that I like Dan Hartman too, which explains why "(That's Your) Conciousness" is my favorite track on the TMNT soundtrack.

As far as actual performers go...I'm a die-hard Beatles fan. I even have a Paul McCartney portrait above my bed. :D
Guilty Pleasure Performer: Stevie B. (Of "In My Eyes", "Diamond Girl", and "Spring Love" fame.) Don't laugh... :sweatdro:

my favorite MP's:
Latin Wise: Shakira, Carlos Santana
Rap Wise: Eve, Missy Elliot, Lil' Kim, Da Brat, MC Lyte
R&B Wise: Brandy, TLC, Nelly Furtado, Pink, Aaliyah, Monica, anyone artist who is not blond, female, and claims to still be virgin(if you know what i mean)
Country Wise: anything and everything
The "Rock" Category Wise: i prefer something lite compared to dark. Gorillaz, Everclear, Everlast, but that is really about it
Misc. Wise: I like music from movie soundtracks...call it inspiration :)
and that is all i wrote...can't say that it is all, but it is the larger part...i also love oldies...especially the beatles :), not to mention Christian Comtemp

Dunno why, just thought I'd like to bring this topic up... music is big thing to me... playing guitar is a big hobby of mine.
My favorities right now...
Metallica
Iced Earth
Black Label Society
Soilwork
Children of Bodom
Shadows Fall
Dark Tranquillity
Ozzy Osbourne
Pantera
Dream Theater
Guns N' Roses
Slash's Snakepit
Van Halen
Def Leppard
Joe Satriani
Aerosmith
The list goes on...
I'll admit it... i'm a metalhead. If it has guitars that are loud, heavy, and fast... it's for me. I'm not a fan of anything played on MTV anymore. In fact, the only shows that I watch on MTV are Jackass and The Osbournes. Unfortunately, I find it hard to find people with similar music tastes. To me music is more than just some power chords and lyrics about girls and love... how cheesy and unoriginal...
Oh and rap... forget it. I honestly can't stand it.
One more thing... you guys from Finland or Sweden... I'm am so jealous of the music scene over there. I am a fan of so many Swedish and Finnish metal bands like Soilwork and Children of Bodom.

MF Dooom
D-Styles
Ned Hoddings
Q-Bert
X-Men
Beat Junkies
Alkaline Trio
Propaghandi
AFI

I'm into indie, underground, punk, hip-hop, what not. I even like classical and jazz. Soul isn't bad either.

This I do NOT agree with. Art is most certainly not relative.
Not true. Art is always relative to the person experiancing its effects. Everyone has their own personal experiances that they can relate to a work, and it will change the way it was meant to be percived by the artist.
Example: I consider Anime and Manga a wonderful form of art, but there are many people on this board who have a completley opposite view.
My favorite bands:
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Sonic Youth
311
Eve 6
Everclear
Godsmack
Alice in Chains
The Ramones
The Sex Pistols
Mudhoney
Jesus Lizard
Meat Puppets
The BEATLES
Bikini Kill
Shouen Knife
Smashing Pumpkins
and the list goes on....
Favorite performer? Kurt Cobain. He put his entire being in to forcing his message on to his audiance. The man knew how to preform, and by looking at several of Nirvana's concerts its clear why his band took off the way they did.

Wow... nice list you got there... It matches mine damn well! Im very impressed you Mentioned Jesus Lizard and Mudhouney... most people look at me weird when I bring them up...

Incorrect. Art is NOT relative.
By that egocentric line of thinking, the sheer genius of Michelangelo (the artist not the turtle) is placed in the same level as that crappy stick figure my five year old cousin just slopped together 3 seconds ago. Pink Floyd is placed in the same level as that two-bit garage band that formed last week. Picasso's visionary work is placed on the same level as that postmodern artist that presents a display of a can of soup as his 'masterpeice'. Obviously, to any artist, such notions are insulting.
There is a further reason why art is not relative, one that reveals the truly egocentric and narcissistic base of such a notion. Namely, the 'artistry' of the art, what makes the art art, is relative, correct?? The 'art' of the art is in the eye of the beholder, correct?? Thus, the true creators, the true artists, the ones that make the art actually 'artful' are NOT, as sometimes assumed, the ones that painted or sung or sculpted..... but the audience itself!! Well, guess what?? That's news to most artists!!
No, no, no..... the play Hamlet is about a prince trying to achieve revenge for the death of his father. At a deeper level, it is an archetypal drama about the human psyche. It is NOT about a family having a picknick in New York. You see, NOT all interpretations, NOT all views, are equal. THAT is one of the major reasons why people have differing views on art: some experience greater levels of depth in art than others. It sounds elitist, but its still true (of couurse, this is NOT to say all differences of opinions regarding art are due to differing experiences of depth). And, the great and noble truth is that some works of art express greater levels of depth than others. That's why Nirvana are geniuses, and Drowning Pool (although entertaining) are not.
I would agree that art is subjective, but NOT relative. Subjective means it is a phenomena experienced internally, experienced within. That does NOT mean the experience is arbitrary and relegated only to that individual's frame of reference. Not all subjective experiences are equally valid, remember. Some are indeed more truthful or deeper than others.
Think about it.

Heretic. Get off your high horse and shut up.
Okay, that was completely uncalled for. I can understand if you do not agree with my viewpoint. That is fine. But just because you have no counterargument or evidence contrary to it does not give you justification for mudslinging.
