I just recently sat down and read the two stories for the first time. I've known them to be very revered in the comic world, but never got around to them until I noticed they were available at the library here. So I checked them out, Returns I really liked, I loved the format it was presented in, how political it was, and how it kinda forshadowed the type of world we live in because of the news media and the all news networks. This was made before any of that, Frank Miller must have seen it coming. Strikes again was kinda strange...I thought Frank Miller's artwork kind of declined in it, it didn't look anywhere near as detailed or refined. And the story, well...I'm still njot sure what I thought of the story, It kinda passes me like a speeding train. When I finished, I was kinda like "Wha..? Wait, it's over?". That's not to say it was bad, I appreciated it as an extension of the first, I think it just kinda took me offguard how it unfolded. Wasn't really as focused on Batman and his stuff as much as I imagined.

Anyways, I'd love to see some other opinions on the 2 stories. Be sure to use consideration when revealing possible spoilers to those who haven't read it.

I haven't gotten around to Strikes Again yet, due to all the negative feedback I've heard about it. I'll read it sooner or later, it's just low on my priorities.

Dark Knight Returns was excellent, though. Maybe not the godly perfection some fanboys make it out to be, but a superb Elseworlds tale never-the-less. I liked all the political satire, particularly the bit where the astronaut is trying to tell the world how doomed they are and the anchor-woman keeps cutting him off with bad jokes because scaring people isn't politically correct.

It was very cynical, but it was a Batman story, it's supposed to be cycnical. Dark Knight Returns is one of the better Batman stories out there. Maybe not THE best, but in the top 10.

I also feel I should note how ridiculous I thought what they did in SA with....Dick Grayson was. He's easily one of my favorite comic characters and I hated to see him devolved and spat upon in such a manner.

Frank Millar has long been an avid hater of writing superhero stories in the manner that they are usually crafted, in a waym this helped, because DKR revolutionised a genre in need of reinvention, the only problem is now, is that Millar wanted to take advantage of the corporate nature of his "Dark Knight" sequel and write it as a stab and a parody of a dosen things, that ending was just a representation of it.

Buy the way, you really should read "All Star Batman", which is allegedly set during the early days of Batmans' career, but is really an excuse for Frank to rewrite the mythos and reinvent Batman as a no-nonsense asshole who abducts his protoges and shows off to them by killing cops and putting on a John Wayne accent.

The guy cannot be expected to retread ground that does'nt need retreading, and he gets a lot of criticism for it, hes' just doing it for money, so is DC, who commision him to write these comics, he has no say in the mannter, and probably would be far comfortable writing Daredevil again, instead of repeating himseld
