Just went to the bookstore and browsed through the newest Amazing Spider-Man issue... and SPOILER
Morlun just ripped out Spidey's left eye. I was like WTbloodyF??! I can't see Spidey with an eyepatch! Anyways, does anyone else find this disturbing?

I guess I appreciate the effort to warn us of a spoiler, but it's kind of defeated when the spoiler itself is the title of the damn thread! Ah! Though if you want to spoiler something, use the spoiler tags.

(minus the extra space at the end)
But hey, Spidey's in good company. Raphael always looked pretty swanky in his eyepatch.

Ai... Where is my brain... Anyways, thanks, damned one. I will keep the use of spoiler tags in mind.
Well, I guess if you think about it realistically, crimefighters WOULD lose their appendages, what, after battling it out with cosmic beings, man-eating lizards with razor sharp teeth, and the like. I guess I'm not too fond of the image this could create for Spidey.:ohwell: Haha! Maybe they'll skip the cliched eyepatch/robotic cyborg eye and just give him a glass eye.
Although, I suppose with stem cell research and cloning existing in this world--in comicbook land, it might be a good deal easier to "regrow" missing limbs.

I think they did it for the shock value, to sell comics.
And, as most have touched upon, it won't last long or Marvel will do something so notorious, so cheesy, it will make Jean Grey's death-rebirth ratio look logical.

That's not all....
In the most recent installment of "The Other" Morlun kills Spidey, but not before SPidey take Morlun down with him. The last page of the issue shows Iron man flying away with Pete's body while Cap and MJ look on, crying. Pretty touching moment.

Darn. Missed that issue, cqb101. Spidey's been acting like an farthole, lately. (oddly, he reminded me of Leo in the new series). Yeah, he's got some kinda cancer finally due to him having radioactive blood I guess. :P (about time they acknowledged that) I've taken a renewed interest in the series, momentarily. The art is also quite nice, and I'm glad they've taken a break from JMS. I was getting sick of his repetitive dialogue and making Spidey seem all... bugs bunny-ish. Peter David is good at making his heroes go through all this nasty tortuous pain and agony and pain and angst and pain... but it does get a little wearing after a while. Interestingly, I think he and JMS are on close terms, as they have collaborated on work before.

No. Methinks Spidey will unlock his secret mystical totemistic spider-powers bestowed upon him by the Endless. Oh. And maybe it'll turn out Morlun is actually the other OTHER spidey clone of old...
JMS likes to go with these wack concepts, and that bothers me. I don't think they'll resurrect clones. Probably something way trippier. (is that word still legit) eh... You see, that's why I was worried they might do something stupid like give Spidey a cyborg eye or something. Because I can see it happening that Spidey gets magical spider powers. I know! He'll call all the spiders of the world to his aide, and they'll eat Morlun.
BTW... as I have long been out of the Amazing Spider-Man comics... how did Morlun come back? I thought he melted.:-?

Marvel's characters who die are like Kenny on South Park, they're either gone for a while and come back, or just reappear without much, if any, explaination and we are just to accept it.

You're gonna be disappointed if you don't like JMS, because he's back now. The whole "The Other" is an event that spans 3 titles(Marvel Knights, Amazing, and Friendly Neighborhood) and will have 12 parts. Each writer(PAD, JMS, and Hudlin) handles a different part of the story(Beginning, middle and end). Hudlin and PAD already did their parts so now JMS is stepping in to wrap the whole thing up. After "The other" finishes, PAD will move onto Friendly Neighborhood, JMS will take over Amazing again, and I believe Hudlin takes over Marvel Knights again.

Jesus Christ... I swear sometimes The Young & The Restless, Guiding Light, All My Children, or As The World Turns incorporates their influence into these comicbook plots.

Incase you're confused, it breaks down like this:
Act One is told in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1, Marvel Knights Spider-Man #19 and Amazing Spider-Man #525 written by Peter David.
Act Two is told in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2, Marvel Knights Spider-Man #20 and Amazing Spider-Man #526 written by Reginald Hudlin.
Act Three is told in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3, Marvel Knights Spider-Man #21 and Amazing Spider-Man #527 written by J. Michael Straczynski.
Act Four/Finale is told in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4, Marvel Knights Spider-Man #22 and Amazing Spider-Man #528; all three titles will be written by their regular writers.
MK # 21 ships today, Friendly Neighborhood # 3 shipped last week, and Amazing #527 ships the 28th.

That's cool.
I don't much get into Marvel anymore due to them recycling the same drama over and over.

ugh... This sucks. I feel kinda betrayed and abused because of the way these comics are going. I haven't picked up a spidey issue since the clone saga. (Quite sad really.) I tend to like Batman because, from what I can tell, the storylines at least stay in sync somewhere along the lines. But, if you haven't noticed, every major superhero went through a typical limbo during the 90's: Superman Died, Batman was Broken, and Spidey was Cloned. Each one was replaced by someone or more than one, and each came back...
Superman was replaced by the Supermen: Steel, Superboy, etc; Batman by Jean Paul Valley, Spidey by Ben Riley.... If this is the direction that they're taking this series (Spidey either dying or being mamed), then look for the others to join suit very soon.
Personally, I don't think Spidey can be replaced. Since we don't have a thread concerning the other two I'll tie in with Spidey. Okay, He was unique, and there'll be no other like him, period. His daughter may have gotten some traits, but there's no way she aquired all his abilities.
Superman has been replaced before. He's fought, with the JL, a whole army of Doomsday soldiers and won, and there's just no way that I think he can be defeated again. There's no way around it. He needs to be shot in the heart with a kryptonite bullet (hallow-point) for him to die. (Ala Smallville.)
Batman... well, we know that eventually the cape and cowel will be handed down to Dick. He's the only one worth of the mantel and besides that, he proved himself worthy when Bruce went off to Washington during No Man's Land. The Batman comics could survive a post-Wayne storyline. (However, I will be utterly upset if they don't do a Knightfall movie with the new characters.)
That's my rant... sorry...

Hes' not staying dead.
JMS has been building up this ridiculous "Spidy=Magic" story arc for years now, this is basiclly what Marvel did with Spidys' portion of the "Acts of Vengeance" mess, gave Spidy Captain Universes' powers. (Dont' ask), he became a god for a while, the whole arc flopped.

I had forgotten about the whole magic thing. he can have stuff cut off. arms legs.. anything and he could come back from it. which kind of stinks, because if marvel had any type of gumpshun.. (dont worry DC is the same way. not bashing marvel.) they would make the eye being ripped out permenant.
