i know these answers based on the tmnt rpg by palladium, but this only applies to the mirage and mirage-derived (such as the first movie and new animated series) universes.

1) Strength: if you mean conventional muscular strength (as in the ability to carry and life heavy objects) then the answer is Raphael, but if you mean the ability to generate power behind your movements then the answer is probably Michelangelo.

2) Athleticism: as in overall physical prowess and skill with the body, it is Michelangelo.

3) Intelligence: as in conventional I.Q., the answer is obviously Donatello, however as in intuitive insight and awareness, it would be Michelangelo. If you mean overall 'street smarts' and experiential wisdom, I would say Leonardo most likely.

4) Level-headed: Donatello, on the whole.

5) Fighting Skill: Michelangelo, in addition to his physical prowess this would also take into account his internal attributes that give him a combat advantage.

6) Best Overall Fighter: This is the same as the above rank. There is no need to post it twice.

7) Best Overall Turtle: I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. My favorite is Michelango, but i don't think there is a 'best'. That's like saying one person is somehow 'better' than another....

These are other attributes that also apply to the mirage-based tmnt:

8 ) Speed: as in conventional running speed it is Raphael; but as in overall quickness, reflexes, and responsiveness with the body it is Michelangelo.

9) Physical Endurance and Stamina: Raphael.

10) Mental and Emotional Endurance: Leonardo, although sometimes this isnt necessarily always a good thing.

11) Mental Affinity: as in personal charm, charisma and personality it is Michelangelo (thats what the mirager rpg sez).

12) Physical Beauty: Michelangelo (i swear im not making this one up, its in the palladium book!!)

I'll post some others if they come to mind.....

Well, in context of the movie and cartoon, I'll use both

1) Strength: I'll be a biased fan and say Raphael, he had some temper issues, but he seemed to have some good power in his muscles.

2) Athleticism: Mike seems to be the best candidate for this, always sewer surfing or skate boarding.

3) Intelligence: Donatello most definitely, the brains of the four. Leonardo
also comes off as very bright but he leaves the thinking to Donny. I think Raphael is quite intelligent too, but he chooses to be sarcastic rather than logical.

4) Level Headed: Leonardo most of the time...Splinter's ninja teachings seem to have taken heart best in him when it comes to concentrating.

5) Fighting skill: All four Turtles have almost equal amounts of skill per in my opinion.

6) Best overall fighter: Raphael

7) Best overall turtle: Raphael

I don't know as much about the cartoon or movie as some people..... but in the movie when they are all sparring if you look at it closely its pretty obvious Mike is beating the others. In the archie, Mike handed Leo his ass in a sparring session. In the cartoon, Mike beat Raph and Don on several occassions (can't recall him sparring with Leo).

Hmmm.... see a pattern??

somehow i always got though that raphael was overall the greatest all around fighter of the group b/c that was the image the movie projected, and i haven't read the old comics but for the new toon in the character profile i think it said raphael was the best fighter. while second came to mikey w/ his athleticism and all, then leo and least don.

Well, The difrences are not really noticable in Mirage comics, But of course Everyone can form their own opinnion. Everyone has Their strong and weak points, but as a team they are whole.

Tokka-B
12-16-2002, 02:06 PM
I agree with Karpo, they really are only good if they are all together as a whole, you can't leave anyone out...

Also, Their really isn't a best of anything, I think most of us based this on their attitudes and stuff...They are brothers(er, that's what I think at least) and they like fighting and living WITH EACH OTHER, they do pick on each other sometimes, but they will always be best of friends and won't determine who is best of anything....My other post was purely biased towards Mike...I just like him best and the other 3 tied for 2nd best... But they all need to be together or else none is good...

Karpo_007
12-16-2002, 02:18 PM
Well they all are good on their own too, but it is in team they work best.

Tokka-B
12-16-2002, 02:25 PM
Kind of but not really...

What is intelligence without anyone to use it?

What is strength without someone to help out?

What is keeping your cool when nothing prevents you from that?

What is ninja skills without teamwork?
:-?

When They first encountered Shredder, it took the whole team beofre they could beat him, but When He came back, Leonardo beat him in a Duel. Three Years had passed of course, and The TMNT were much more experienced.

While Raphael might seem to come off as the best fighter, I'd have to say Leonardo is the most disciplined. In the movie, the only Turtle who was managing to give Shredder a hard time at the end was Leo. The other three didn't seem to have much of a chance with him.

heretic888
12-16-2002, 09:49 PM
somehow i always got though that raphael was overall the greatest all around fighter of the group b/c that was the image the movie projected

As an actual martial artist, let me say that just because someone is walking around agressively projecting a tough guy image does NOT mean they are a good fighter. If you slow down your vcr and examine the turtles sparring in the woods, it is very clear Mike is beating the other three.

and i haven't read the old comics

Well, you should.

but for the new toon in the character profile i think it said raphael was the best fighter. while second came to mikey w/ his athleticism and all, then leo and least don.

Actually, Raphael is described as the 'strongest' and the 'toughest' of the bunch, and.... i hate to break it to you, that makes one a good boxer not a warrior. Mike is described as the most athletic and the most physically skilled. Leo as the most 'dedicated', which isn't necessarily a good thing (I have been told by some shidoshi that training too much or too hard is bad for one's budo skill).

Well, The difrences are not really noticable in Mirage comics

Actually, they are probably MORE noticeable there than anywhere else. Only Mike and Leo could hurt Shredder one on one. Mike beat Raph twice in sparring. Leo managed to defeat a group of Shredder Elite that almost killed Raph. After Return to New York, when Raph and Leo were sparring, Raph was repeatedly outdone by Leo. See a pattern??

Everyone has Their strong and weak points, but as a team they are whole.

True 'dat.

When They first encountered Shredder, it took the whole team beofre they could beat him, but When He came back, Leonardo beat him in a Duel. Three Years had passed of course, and The TMNT were much more experienced.

Yes, but remember only Mike and Leo had spent their spare time training during that time......

While Raphael might seem to come off as the best fighter

He seems that way to people that don't know anything about warriorship because of his irrational aggression....

I'd have to say Leonardo is the most disciplined.

That doesn't mean he's the best fighter. That just means he is a bit more emotionally rigid than most of the others.

In the movie, the only Turtle who was managing to give Shredder a hard time at the end was Leo. The other three didn't seem to have much of a chance with him.

First off, that was in the movie only. Secondly, Leo cut him ONCE on the ARM. Not exactly a huge difference in how well the others were doing. Thirdly, Mike was clearly beating all three of them during their farmhouse training....

raphael90
12-16-2002, 11:24 PM
Leo kept Shredder at bay for a bit....the others Shredder thrashed in a second after they attacked. Leo seemed to have more of a fight in him.
And I guess I don't know what 'warriorship' is, but I just like Raphael anyways. If Raphael didn't have such a temper, he'd be a Turtle to reckon with in my opinion.

7) Best Overall Turtle: I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. My favorite is Michelango, but i don't think there is a 'best'. That's like saying one person is somehow 'better' than another....

Leo kept Shredder at bay for a bit....the others Shredder thrashed in a second after they attacked. Leo seemed to have more of a fight in him.

Leo kept Shredder 'at bay' no longer than Michelangelo or Raphael did. He cut the man ONCE and in the ARM. I hate to break this to you, but that isn't a huge difference between how the others were doing. Besides, if you remember correctly, it was Leonardo that got his ass knocked down and pinned with Saki's staff....

Also, if you closely examine their sparring session in the woods, it is clear Mike is beating the other three.

take you long to figure out that best can surely mean better than? hmmmmm......all of those wierd philosophies on life making you forget the easy stuff

allow me to explain.

i meant to say that i dont think one of the turtles can be 'better than' another. that would be like comparing two people or two dogs and saying one is 'better' than the other. they of course can be better than each other IN CERTAIN AREAS. but as individual entities, there really is no 'better'.

Nickokapo

raphael90
12-17-2002, 09:35 AM
Yeah, so Mike was kicking their butts at the farm....that didn't fit very well if they all have good Ninja skills.

Yeah, but Leo's cutting him in the arm was better than nothing. The other three didn't even touch him. My personal opinion, and I know no one else gives a darn, Leo is the best of the bunch. I think he's got a good balance of fighting and thinking. Kicking butt isn't the only thing that makes a good ninja.

heretic888
12-17-2002, 09:49 AM
Yeah, so Mike was kicking their butts at the farm....that didn't fit very well if they all have good Ninja skills.

If he has greater prowess than them, it would fit perfectly well.

Yeah, but Leo's cutting him in the arm was better than nothing. The other three didn't even touch him.

Actually, we don't know if the others 'touched' him or not because large parts of the fight were cut out when Casey was talking to the remaining Foot. In addition, you must also remember that Leo managed to cut him after he had gone through like three volleys of attacks from all of them and he was undoubtedly a little tired. Besides, it was Leo that got his ass knocked to the ground and pinned by a spear, not the others.

My personal opinion, and I know no one else gives a darn, Leo is the best of the bunch. I think he's got a good balance of fighting and thinking. Kicking butt isn't the only thing that makes a good ninja.

Well, speaking as one WHO ACTUALLY STUDIES NINPO, I would say Mike by far has closer to what you would call 'ninja mind' than the others. Leo is sometimes too driven by predetermined rules and codes of behavior, inhibiting his ability to react appropriately to situations. In addition, it is Mike who has the greatest physical prowess (at least in the Mirage-derived mediums, which probably includes the first movie at lest), not Leo.

Well I haven't gotten into all TMNT universes either. Image volume and Next mutation are the ones I don't have much experience of. Of course in the case of NT:NM it's probably for the better, But Im a little curious about the Image. Maybe I should read few of those...

HorseTechie

It happens. While I know everything Mirage and movie, I wouldn't be able about to tell yah much about the cartoons or Archie.

But anyway, I admire each of the Turtles physical abilities. While one my be best in one area, another's talent is doing something else. That's why they say if the Turtles worked togther as a team, they would be an unbeatable force. :P

heretic888
12-18-2002, 10:18 PM
Heh, I know practically everything about all the universes. Yeah, I know: heretic rocks. :D

And.... although I completely respect the fact that the tmnt work best as a team, I do also acknowledge that some are obviously superior in certain areas and I believe that was what this thread was about.....

Incorrect. The initial poster listed one of the rankings as 'best turtle'. I simply stated that such a ranking is impossible to have, as no one person or character can be 'better' than another.

Ugh, your one of those people who think they are better than everyone else...

You can tell yourself that if it makes you feel more important..... it doesn't really bother me.

no but it does mean that they have been in enough fights from having the big bad tough guy image to know what they are doing

no, not necessarily. being in a lot of fights does not necessarily mean you 'know what you are doing'....

Exactly. It means they are more experienced in battle meaning that they are more likely a better fighter!

Actually, that's not true at all. I could pick out a guy at my job that probably has been in ten times as many fights as me. Guess what?? I'm still like ten times the fighter he is. The very fact that one has been in so many fights is a pretty good indication they don't know what they're doing...

Tokka-B
12-21-2002, 10:46 PM
Don't get me wrong, I am a pacifist, but if he has been in 10X as many fights as you have, then he learns from 10x the amount of mistakes and learns 10X the amount of fighting techniques than you do. :P

heretic888
12-22-2002, 10:46 PM
I have yet to see Raphael show any signs of personal development. He still carries himself like a child.

And, if you think getting into a lot of fights is a good way to 'learn' to become a better fighter.... well, I hope you never teach self-defense....

Tokka-B
12-23-2002, 05:14 PM
And I hope you will never teach fighting techniques when you don't even know if they work cause of the lack of fighting....

Jaxolyre
12-23-2002, 05:43 PM
The only reason Raph fights is because of the inner conflict that he cannot fit into the human society...that's why he fights, but the reason he doesn't show development is because he grows up in his older brother's shadow. If he were to show development that means that all those years he argued with Leo, Leo was always right, and Raph has too much pride to do that, it's his character flaw.

heretic888
12-24-2002, 10:15 AM
And I hope you will never teach fighting techniques when you don't even know if they work cause of the lack of fighting....

I don't know anywhere near enough martial arts to become a competent teacher. However, I would teach a valuable lesson that seems to elude people like you..... how to not fight.

No offense, but your character analysis is horribly flawed. In both the movie and Mirage series, Raph's character has very very little to do with his relationship with Leonardo.

Karpo_007
12-24-2002, 10:21 AM
It has much more to do with his anger. That is what makes he do stupid things, he can't control it. And there is character development. In issue 27 Raph clearly has Regrets about the way he Behaves. It's not big, but it is there.

Jaxolyre
12-24-2002, 01:50 PM
Raph may have explosive anger, but i'm simply stating what i think causes his anger, and as long as i've lived me and everyone around me have known that Raph and Leo do not get along, because Leo is the perfect son and Raph has to live in his shadow...i guess this is a personal view shared by me and several hundred people, who follow the cartoon and movie versions more closely, that i know of at least...but those are my feelings on the matter.

Karpo_007
12-24-2002, 02:27 PM
I own the complete first volume of TMNT comics, and I have read over half of it now. You said that Leo is a perfect son, implying that there is some sort of competition between Leo And Raph. That is not the case. Raph doesn't always agree with Leo, but in the end they are still brothers. There is no competition.

Jaxolyre
12-24-2002, 06:28 PM
that's not what i meant...in the comics there wasn't the compitition issue, they accually got along with just a few fights, but partially in the cartoons you could see some resentment, usually starting with april getting kidnapped and them apologizing to each other and saving the day (a kodak moment :trazz: )

Kali
12-24-2002, 06:35 PM
Maybe not a direct competition, but definitely some head-butting going on between the two of them. Leo and Raph both have very forceful personalities and it's understandable that they have differences both are too proud to compromise on. But they're still brothers, and they care for each other, and their family.

Jaxolyre
12-24-2002, 06:41 PM
thank you i've been trying to say that, but unfortunately i am blessed with the ability of trying to explain without finding the right words for it...maybe i should take a vow of silence, or become a mime

No, but there was enough to give the impression that there where problems there.
