unsure where to put this,it's still a tmnt topic.
I was watching my season 2 DVD again. Does anyone recall "Enter: The Fly", has anyone heard anything about anyone complaining about it? I watch this and go,"wow. Those buildings aren't there anymore."
Someone I talk to online says, theepisode should of been cut. I feel for him, but it's not fair to destory a cartoon from the past to make the present happy.

Hotrodding teenagers would also have to be cut, Shredder parks the Technodrome between the towers.

Yes, the tragedy happened... and it was horrible. Doesn't mean we should pretend like the towers never existed. We move on, but we don't forget.

Exactly, it's no disrespect. I think I'd be more upset if it was cut, myself.

No that shouldn't have been cut. Are you going to toss out all the pre-9/11 movies that you can spot the Twin Towers off of TV? Hell no. Just another US goverment manufactured sentiment to perpetuate censorship, enforced by the FCC and the MPAA by unconstitutional beatdown.
Jester

Dude, they didn't cut it, it's ok.
I agree with Mask and Jester. Those towers were a part of life as well as art. We can't remove all trace of them from our art any better than we can remove them from our memories. Moreover, it wouldn't be right.
That said, some reminders of 9/11 do make me shudder. I avoided driving in Washington DC for months because I knew I'd get lost and wind up on the freeway that runs past the Pentagon. (I did, too.)
But if I can't handle it, I can change the channel.

Well I have to agree with you Optimus Prime. Nothing should be changed. I think that is why alot of pre 9/11 stuff no longer airs. Home Alone 2 actually got away with part of it when it aired around Christmas. But the new covers have the towers gone.
How many TMNT eps where around the twin towers? And this might be why Fox won't air those Spiderman episodes

I hate the fact that ever since Uncle Binny and his little Tail-buddys got drunk and crashed some planes into the towers, we gotta be so uptight everytime we see them in tv and movies. I still can't believe they stopped airing a whole episode of the impsons because of that.
There is a difference between being uptight and being respectful.
You can't completely avoid the towers as they are part of our history, but you also can't just brush off what happened to them. Because it's not the towers, it's the people inside, and what happened to them, and what happened to us.
I mean, come on, to a lot of people, America was violated. Heck, the whole world in a way, since it was the WTC. To a lot of people, that overrides the artistic/comedic value of something like the Simpsons and makes it totally un-entertaining. So why air it? Have a little patience; this needs the distance of time.
Again, I can change the channel, but I think there may be good reasons for choosing not to air it in the first place.

I do not for any reason see why old shows and movies have to have the world trade centers taken out of them honestly I think it is really rude to those who died to act as if those building had never existed so I am really happy they exist in the turtles universe still atleast.

Wasn't there an episode where Krang threatened to roll over the twin towers if his demands weren't met? I think it was one of the Big Blow Out/ The Big Rip-off/ The Big break in trilogy thing.

I daresay it was actually popculture that inspired Al-Quaida.
To stay on-topic - that concept is pretty bizarre. TMNT cartoon was made a few years before the attack. And it is somehow a historical document of its times (1980s/90s decade). So wiping out WTC is unnecessary.

Not quite, but the media does have its effect on today's so-called terrorism. It's all about attention. You know, the Twin Towers held no strategic value to anyone, so why knock them down and kill thousands of unnecessary lives? Because people will be watching. It's no longer about political targets or strategic value, it's about being seen, attention, your personal 15 seconds in the spotlight.
The Pentagon, I can sort of understand, but then again, there's too much left for conspiracy theoreticians (is that even a word?) to blahblah about and sadly, most of it sounds more or less credible.
To go back to the subject. I feel it's a disgrace to cut out the Twin Towers from any movie and media. It's not like they never existed! People should see it the way they were protrayed, the mighty, beautiful Twin Towers that were in the middle of a really friggin' huge city. It's not like that big hole in the ground was always a big hole in the ground. And people died in there, people died to save other people who the media doesn't give a damn about. It was a really big act of humans helping humans, the way it should be. But what do we get? "Al Qaida this" and "Saddam Hussein... oh no, not him... oops sorry." and "Bin Laden that". All those unsung heroes... Sure, you see the guy with the Twin Towers tattoo on TV or in the newspaper, but that's about it.
I'd even pay money to see Spider-Man with the Twin Towers in cinemas again. So, no, I don't think that cutting Twin-Towers-Scenes is of any use.

Actually, they'd been trying to hit the World Trade Center for years. It was an iconic landmark, and was symbolic of not only America's capitalist strength but of our capitalist allies. (Gotta give them credit for doing it on "9-11" though. Very cute.) The only bigger target would have been the White House, and they probably hit the Pentagon because they couldn't find the White House. The Pentagon is a physically huge target; you can see it from miles away in the air.
I don't buy the conspiracy theories for the simple fact that the government ain't that organized. Well I've got other reasons too, but I'm not getting into that.
But I agree, actually editing the towers out of any old stuff is wrong.

I have to agree, I was watching the episode where Shredder and Baxter where on the TWin Towers and then left. Then you hear Don talking about it to Splinter and saying "It has something to do with the Twin Towers". If this was editted for the wussy people. This episode would make no sense and make you say,"WTF?"

One of the future TMNT eps, I think it was 'The Big Blow Out' dealt completely with the Twin Towers since it was the base of Shredder and Krang's plot to power the Technodrome. They'd have to cut out the entire episode if they were to censor the Towers.

I'm surprised that some people would want to destroy some of these scenes and episodes. The sheer fact that it was a national tragedy doesn't mean we need to eradicate our past just to suit the sensitive people of today is comletely ludicrous. Just because Pearl Harbor happened doesn't mean we forget about it and wipe if from our minds. Same thing goes for the World Trade Center. Now it is part of our cultural history. Same thing goes with anything as disastrously tragic as that. Letting things slip away like that means we forget it. If we forget it, we dishonor the people who tragicly died that day.
I say it is more immoral to rid ourselves of these images and these movies/shows with shots of the WTC in them. It's starting to show our younger generations that if we wipe things out by making there be no more traces of them, then we can make our tragidies disappear.

Yeah, it was "The Big Blow Out". Krang needed the tallest building in the city to create the dimensional portal. Don called it "World Trade building", BTW.

That's true what you say. Nevertheless, I just meant that the inspiration for using four planes loaded with people as missiles might have come from a fictional plot. Like in "Independence Day" by Emmerich, with Empire State building's pictoresque destruction by the invading aliens - I'm pretty sure this movie greatly inspired Al Quaida to perform a similar vivid action (in 1993, WTC was "just" bombed). I also remember watching a movie, made before 2001, with a commercial airliner hi-jacked by terrorists and heading for the White House. I can't recall its title, tho' :|

But then again, it is highly possible that two different "writers" came up with the same idea. I mean, destroying an iconic landmark is not really something you have to be a genius to come with. All you gotta think is "What is there that will give us maximum attention?" What's better than a skyscraper? Or two skyscrapers for that matter.
But on the other hand side, it is possible that they were inspired by your movie, Rob, which would make the events even more tragic.

The WTC also appeared in the episode "Landlord of the flies". And that episode also delt with terrorism when Baxter Stockman tried to destroy a power plant just to ruin society by causing a blackout. (Krang, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady at least tried to steal energy to power up the Technodrome).

Well if that wasn't the most insulting thing I ever seen! Hasbro should get sued or that scene HAS to be editted. Plus whoever made that page did it to be a jerk. At least in TMNT it was never a success to destory the Towers. The towers where there and used for a plot. Same with Spiderman and every othe movie before it.
Shame on the guy who made that page. I'd be careful too, if the wrong person sees that it's an automatic terrorist threat and your ass is fined. Stupid and funny as that might sound I'm actually rather serious,I heard enough talk, debates, laws, etc after 9/11 happened. That's all my dad would watch on cable!

Oh, yes! Definitely. Hasbro should not only be sued, but also arrested and then executed! 9/11 is all their fault! The wanted to sell toys! Now it all makes sense to me. Like, they took American Airways, because they wanted to show the world that the Decepticons are better and all that.
Yeah, right... go sue them. It's a win-win situation for you. You get to be in court and you'll be the laughing stock of an entire planet. You'll get more than just your fifteen minutes in the spotlight. You'll have internet-fame, and even in years, people will laugh at you.

I just think posting that is pretty insulting cause we all where talking how they shouldn't be removed but posting it destoryed well...that's kinda mean.
I'm just remembering how others would feel. Nobody wants to relive it destoryed
Anarky
01-12-2006, 02:22 PM
I don't care about how "destoryed" something is, but to edit a past program just because something was "destoryed" is definitely wrong. It's not like they could have known that someone would actually do what they show in their show? If production companies would have to worry about stuff like that, we wouldn't have cartoons at all.
Maybe the author of that YMTND-page wanted to show us that there was stuff that deserved the editing more than Spider-Man or something. You can't really tell what YTMND is telling you, since you can't articulate yourself on there. Maybe the author wanted to show that he's sick of seeing the footage of the towers getting destroyed over and over again... The possibilities are endless.
But go ahead and sue him or her. Don't just talk big, go and sue him. You know, people always go "Somebody should..." and they themselves are not willing to do anything, so I encourage everybody to do what they believe in. But: You'll have to face the consequences.

That looks like a "HeadMasters" episode or something like "Zone" or something else. It's not Season 1, 2 nor 3. I own those DVDs and I don't recall seeing that on the cartoon. You know on "Car Robots" Gigatron (Megatron) destoryed a twin tower by smashing in it. What was VERY werid was this..
On Fox Kids, they aired all the brand new cartoons on Saturday morning 9/9/01- Gigatron was in new York and smashed the tower by going through it.Then 9/11/01 hit that Monday and Fox never aired that episode ever again. Funny how The Simposons was SUPPOSE to air the Twin Towers episode that Monday as well.

You can't sue someone when what they did was harmless when they did it. There's a clause in the US Constitution that forbids the goverment from doing that. They've got the same rule in a lot of countries, for the record.

YTMND has been criticised, sued, counter sued, hacked, and attacked publicly and privatly by people ranging from Eric Bauman to Six Flags and is still standing. Its' typical internet humour.
By the way, what is so hilariously ironic about the infamous Amazing Spider-Man issue written by JMS about 9/11 was the fact villains like Doctor Doom were crying (Doctor Doom), and Spidy wondering how this could have happened, how such a tragedy unfolded...

It was "Sky Turtles" (season 3, with the Technodrome in the Earth's core). Krang used a machine, placed near the Technodrome, to "play" with the laws of gravity in an attempt to force the city to surrender to him. He gave Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady used "anti-gravity boots" so they could resist the machines power (nothing happened to the Technodrome). First, Krang did so everything begun to float around like in space. Then, everything was pulled towards the ground expect for the birds because they were too high above the Technodrome. Then everything begun to leave the Earth and float out in space (which should have killed everyone without a space-suit). Donatello used the Channel 6 parabolic antenna to destroy Krangs machine and turning everything back to normal.

I agree completely.
Furthermore, the idea of the Twin Towers being destroyed is obviously a tasteless subject after the fact, but the idea of destroying famous landmarks, both in fiction and real life, is as old as civilization itself. The TMNT cartoon never struck me as taking the idea of violence or mass destruction too lightly, so I see no reason to edit or suppress any previous episodes.

I don't understand why it should be cut. Yeah and the twin towers were on the season 1 disc as well.
But if anything, those episodes with the twin towers in them should be left in, to commemorate 9-11.
That's like trying to cut out a part of American history.
What if the Soup Nazi episodes on Seinfield were cut because it was connected to Nazis, and thus the holocaust? It would've ruined it!!
What I'm trying to say here is this: don't cut something out because you consider it an "indisputable act of evil" or whatever (not trying to be argumentative here).
Those buildings were a part of the history of our nation. Cutting them out of those episodes is like trying to act like it never even happened at all. It hasn't been erased from our minds, so it shouldn't be erased from our media.
Whenever I see the twin towers in a show, movie, etc. (like that episode of the Simpsons, or Hackers, etc.) I am appreciative that they keep that footage on there so we can see how it used to be and think back to a time when those 2 buildings stood tall and proud, as the true symbols of the American spirit that they were.

Here is a link further describing the Twin Towers and their significance, for those who are interested:

I doubt many of us need the history lesson, we know full well what the towers represent, and what thier destruction led to, I also really dont' see the point of cutting an episode twenty years ahead of their destruction. If they were an icon of American architecture and enconomy, it makes more sense to keep it there, rather than strip new audiences and historians of them forever just because people were afflicted. By removing those towers, you're running away, you're MAKING people run away

Hmm.. my friend was saying this...the DVDs will always have these scenes. But say CN or some newtwork decided to air these older TMNT episodes. There isa 50 -50 chance they be cute and 1 or 2 episodes would never air.

Cartoon Network is just ridiculous. Weren't they the ones who banned Speedy Gonzales and a bunch of good old cartoon because they were "incorrect"? Damn, but they were funny!
I will never understand CN's policy concerning political correctness...

Unfortunately a lot of old cartoons did contain elements that would be considered offensive today, such as ethnic and racial jokes, cigarette smoking, implied sexual humor, etc., so it's hard to be sure what to show nowadays. The cartoons made in the early half of the 20th century were in fact intended to entertain adults in movie theaters, not children on television. Back in the 1970's, there was a cartoon character called "The Frito Bandito" who advertised Fritos corn chips, but he was eliminated because the Mexicans complained about him. I wonder how they feel about Speedy Gonzales.

I heard about Speedy a few years ago, on a radio. It was about him having been cancelled, like you said, for PC reasons. The story was about Hispanic people demanding him back.
I think Speedy is cute myself. But I dont remember TOO much about him, other than he was very...hyper. :D

9/11 actually happened on a Tuesday. I only remember because it was the day that Slayer's coincidentally titled album, God Hates Us All, came out.

America and the world has changed that day. I remember getting up watching tv and hearing about it.. It was scary and terrifying to us all.
God rest those poor souls and kill those bastards who made that threat. Still we have moved on and this will be in our lives forever. There are thigns that the world can never forget!

I think only 2 TMNT (original cart.) episodes featured the twin towers. The New York landmarks were never really exploited in the cartoon much, buildings like the Empire State and Statue of Liberty were hardly included, even all the shots in the background of New York. The makers liked to make up totally original buildings for a specific storyline.
I don't think it's right to cut out world trade centre shots on Tv, now that it's 2006. Yeah, it was understandable for the Spiderman movie to exclude them, as it was coming out just after the tragedy. Yes, someone who experienced the tragedy up-front will be reminded of it and saddened by seeing these episodes, because they are pretty heavy, like in "the Big Blow Out" when Krang sets up a portal, i think, between twin towers in what seems to be portraying this end-of-the-world scenario. Yet, it's only fantasy and a cartoon y'know.
<P>
To carry on slashing out the parts with twin towers shown, it shows fear of the past visions of twin towers, and it's what the terrorists set out to make everyone feel, and it's giving in to let these cowards with silly beliefs of islamic fanatism control, in their own little way, the airwaves as well.

One of the future TMNT eps, I think it was 'The Big Blow Out' dealt completely with the Twin Towers since it was the base of Shredder and Krang's plot to power the Technodrome. They'd have to cut out the entire episode if they were to censor the Towers.
What Season did this happen in?
Here they are in The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episode 7 of Season 2. "Enter: The Fly"
Availaible on DVD

Oh, a friendly reminder. Religious debates aren't allowed. And Foot Clan Major, calling a faith silly does not make you many friends, especially not in a place where a thing called "trolling" is known.

Wasn't there a TMNT ep, where the gravity pull was causing building to turn over, including the twin towers?
Yes Sky Turtles
It had nothing to do with the Towers except for the site of them in the first few frames I believe. Besides that they weren't seen.
I downloaded episode 4 of the original....and I heard them say the "International trade centre"...was this in the original, or was it just a "strategic change of word" to avoid offending "certain people"?
Here is a picture of them as they mentioned them in Season 1

I didn't know the Two Towers were cut from that scene. I should watch it and find out for myself, but...
The events of the attack on the Two Towers did left a huge scar on New York and all across America. I would feel uneasy if I see the Two Towers someplace like in an old guidebook, card or t-shirt; knowing that the Towers are gone. Its like I'm seeing a ghost. A ghost of the past.
But you guys have the right to complain, though. The Two Towers should be remembered, not forgotten.

 I was in Manhattan 3 weeks before they collapsed. At night, I went for a boat and saw the towers light up. Now, on the same boat ride, you see lights where they were.
