my thoughtso n #7 and lawson's art

i got it today (dec 18 wednesday) at my local comic store.

im kinda disappointed in it. its only 24 pages =P. its a good 24 pages, but it reminds me of the short-lived volume 2. the reason i think vol. 2 didnt last long, is b/c vol. 1 was 30-40 pages per comic. most were on the upper end of that range. then, vol. 2 comes out, and they waned to put time and let the story evolve, which i am all about. i like volume 2. however, if i had been collecting them at that time, yeah, it would suck ass to wait 2 months to have very little happen per issue.

so, hopefully this was just an isolated incident and they dont stay to the short issues.

just a comment on the new series...does anyoen else think lawson sucks at drawing humans? back in the 'ole days of 'city at war', 'tales of the tmnt', and 'return to new york', i really liked his work - those are some awesome comics. i neve really liked how he drew the turtles faces (their mouths always looked wierd to me) but it didnt bug me. but in the new series, i just cant stand the way he draws april, casey, shadow, and in #7 robyn.

i mean, look at the last page of #1. shadow looks horrid. and look at robyn in the new issue..like on page 22, at the top..it looks like some big bear or something squeezed her waist, making most of the pressure force her eyballs to try to pop out of her head, and inflated her lips. bleh!

not to put him down, but trying to give some constructive criticism. i like the rest of his work in the books.

Damn... So it is out. My comic shop used to have them on time...

And yeah, everyone agrees that Lawson can't draw Humans anymore. It is weird because when he did Tales of TMNT and Return ro New York, He draw Humans nicely.

Well I guess some shops got it earlier than others. Well it doesn't matter really, Im not even reading the new Volume yet.

also, b/c the other day i placed an order from mirage over the phone, and got #5 and #6, and the lady told me that they just got #7 in that day, but i told her i would be getting it from my local comic shop.

The last two issues have really made me lose patience with the new series. #7 was unusually short and half of the story was that stupid superhero vingnette. What did that have to do with anything? I guess we'll find out, but all these subplots are getting out of hand? And what about that monster in the jungle, and what about Karai? This story arc is moving way too slow for a bi-monthly series. And yeah, Jim Lawon's art sucks. I don't mind stylization, but I don't like his style. Hopefully the comic based on the new show will put the Turtles back in their rightful place.

im guessing that we will see more of the superhero turtles from the other dimension. i hope so, not b/c im a big fan of them or whatever, but just b/c i'd make me even more pissed about #7 it was just pointless filler =P

Well Volume 1 has pretty bad issues too. Of course they are not written by Laird...

But yeah.. we were discussing earlier that humans are not Lawson's strength. He may draw cool looking TMNT (or he used to) and his dinos kick butt, but the humans.. ehh....

i agree. issue 7 was a bit of a dissapointment, story-wise. i think lawson is getting a little better, though.....

as for the superturtles, that is very interesting..... superturtles from a parallel dimension. of course, judging from how they fought, i would have to say that ninjutsu-trained mutant turtles kick the living **** out of superpowered mutant turtles anyday of the week..... but, i did get a kick out of the name for their archvillian: dr. shreddarius.

Atleast Now it's cleared that our worst fear didn't come true. Well It will be a long time before I can start reading Volume 4...

i know when i first got the comic, i was like 'what the hell...lemme see...'G' for "Gay" and 'E' for..um.."Even Gayer"....'

im still kinda mixed on the new series on the whole. the art is definately nowhere near the calibar of what we are used to seeing from lawson, and im just talking about the turtles. but its not a bad style i dont think.

as for the writing, i see some of the letters are like 'thanks for bringing it back to the gritty image style'....thats so off-base....they aren't drooling over pizza, true, but i heard some *almost* "cowabunga-ish" stuff in there. and if they dont shed blood soon, im gonna be pissed! they shoulda ripped that gang in the first issue a new ass. instead they...what? RAN AWAY? wierd.

actually, not that weird. in most cases, ninja would opt for running away over conquering the enemy. no need in getting involved in unnecessary violence.

Yeah I read the first issue before I decided to read the old ones first. I wondered that myself.
