I read someplace that the Shredder came from a Marvel's Daredevil villian. But, I do not know which villian. Does anybody know?
Thanks,
Daniel

Actually, Shredder was an original character. When they were designing the idea for the villian, Kevin was playing with a rectangular cheese grater, sliding his hand in and the small blades gave him the idea for Shredder's gauntlet.

The concept of TMNT came mostly from Marvel's Daredevil and X-Men comics. The ninja aspects were taken from Daredevil characters like Elektra and Bullseye, the "teenage mutant" part was a from X-Men's teenage mutants. I have no idea how Turtles came into the mix, but if you haven't seen the first drawings that Kevin & Peter did you should defintely check them out.
Has anyone ever read Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters? It was a TMNT parody that wasn't very funny or well drawn.

splinter evolved from "stick" who was from daredevil. The turtles were taken from some ronchy movie and the name from daredevil and x-men. Hope that clears stuff up.

i also found that the name "foot" is a mockery of the x-men tribe the "hand" who revived Omega Red. Interesting.

Yes the first issue was a parody of the main stream comics of that time. But after the huge success they started to take it seriously.

The creative duo wrote an origin story that parodied Frank Miller's Daredevil and Ronin series, comics that Kevin and Peter held in high esteem.

yes it does young applecat, the creators were big readers of marvel, they developed most of their ideas from daredevil and some from x-men, and then they made up the rest.

and from the x-men, i have the comicYes, but Miller created the Hand. Later Claremont (or maybe it was Jim Lee at the time...) used them in X-Men.

Hey, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it kinda implied in the TMNT origin that the ooze that mutated the turtles is actually the same stuff that gave Matt Murdock/Daredevil his special abilities?

in the origin of the turtles, a young man knocks a blind man out of the way of a truck. a canister (the ooze) bounces out of the truck and hits the young man in the side of the head, making him blind. that young man you may better know as...THE DAREDEVIL!!!
now you know...the rest of the story!

I really believe Shredder was inspired from this guy. Either that or Wolverine or the Blade.

In TMNT, some young guy gets hit by a canister near the eyes, making him go "Ow!" :P
