View Full Version : What I don't understand about human life

Okay so there's lot's of theories about life right?
Were we monkeys? Adam and Eve? What came first the sperm or the egg?
Well wouldn't this question help answer it...
What I wanna know is how did the first "people" eat and survive? Was the first person an adult? They must have been because a new born baby would just lay there crying and not know how to feed itself or cook a meal.
It's not like the baby had teeth to chew an apple or the ability to fish cook or kill animals to eat....
So how the hell did it all start? Who were the first people and how did they survive, how were they made and how did they eventually procreate into 6.5 billion people of all different races?
As much as I'd love to give my opinion on the topic and I really would. I'm pretty sure this is going to turn in to religious discussion on creationism and thus that this thread should be locked. But if the mods say otherwise I'll contribute.

They ate lot of spinach, like Popeye, which made them so strong that they were able to begin to conquer the world.

Like Duke, I'd really love to toss in my own two cents (primarily because I'm an Anthropology dork) but unless everyone's willing to be civilized about the topic at hand, brace yourself for a sh*tstorm of epic proportions.

There are really only two basic ideas:
A) Humans were created or introduced into the world all at once
or
B) Humans evolved over a long period of time
People split these ideas into more specific ones, often based on whether they believe a deity was the force behind idea A or B.
If you believe that people evolved (if we were "monkeys"), then there was no "first person." People would have changed slowly over time from single celled life forms into what we are today.
If you believe people were created all at once, there is probably a creation story (such as the story of Adam and Eve) that would explain how people could take care of themselves.

Pretty cool Iris, I don't know what everyone else is so anal about... but thank YOU for contributing intelligent thought :)
So I guess that does and doesn't answer my question. Well it does in terms that I know how we'd take care of ourselves. But now the typical age old debate of Adam and Eve VS Monkeys is all that's left...
Oh well, thanks 8)
People have a good reason to be anal. These topics have a tendency to spin out of control and turn from discussions to flaming arguments.
And you're welcome.
We are anal because it is against the rules to discuss religion. And no matter how you spin your question, it is still a religious question.

This is a interesting topic, I hope it dosent turn into a flame war.
HHHmmmm, well I might be more baised sence I am very religious (um I dont always show it)
I think it really comes down to (at least around here) If you believe in a god, or if you dont.
Somthing thats more interesting to me is what causes some one to believe in god, or not beleive in him? I know many are brought up to believe and over time some stay with that faith or move onto somthing else, or just stop believing all together.
One thing that I find very interesting is that the muslims, jews, and the christains all believe that Jesus was a real person but what seperates them (among other things) is how they believed in him. A Prophet, nobody, a savior.
And also how do we know which religion is right, or how do we know evolution is right?

As an anthropology major, hearing "humans evolved from monkeys" kinda makes my blood boil. It's far better phrased "humans and monkeys/apes share a common ancestor." Millions of years ago, humans simply didn't exist. Nor did most of the animals we see today, least of all "monkeys".
Think about it in terms of a family tree.

But as to how man now consists of many difference races and colours, a good majority of that has to do with location and climate. As man moved out of Africa and into other regions of the world, their bodies began to adapt over several generations. Epicanthal folds, like many asians have over their eyes, serve as protection against extreme weather and light. Flat noses like those found on Africans help disperse heat easily. Lighter skinned people flourished in darker areas because what little sunlight they did get managed to penetrate their skin better than darker skinned people, which produced vitamin D necessary to bone growth.
Crap, man. I could go on. I'll cease my incessant windbaggery for now.
