What is your favorite issue from the first volume of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and your favorite issue from the first volume of the Tales of the TMNT comics?

My favorite issue from Tales Vol. 1 would have to be #4 "I, Monster". It introduces the intriguing character whom we now know and love as the Rat King.
Well, Vol. 1 of TMNT is a little harder. My favorite STORYLINE is "City At War". I don't have a favorite issue per se. If I had to choose one self contained issue, I'd go with #28 "Sons of the Silent Age". (Not to be confused with the horribly mutiltated version of it in the new animated series).

As far as "Tales of the TMNT" goes, I've only read the first three issues...But my favourite thus far has to be #1.
When it comes to Volume 1, I've hardly read all of the issues, and I'm a relative newcomer to the series -- but there's undoubtedly something profoundly inspiring about reading the very first TMNT comic ever, issue #1. Not only was it the first Ninja Turtles comic, it was the first appearance ever, in any form, of the terrapin quartet.
There's just something very cool about seeing the Turtles in their infancy...What a great book!

Man, this is tough... trying to pick just one issue! i've always loved leonardo #1, just the way its split up with leonardo taking up the first 3/4's of each page and the rest of the guys taking up the bottom... just the contrast between the turtles having a good time at christmas and leo getting his shell kicked in by the foot, its so awesome! Tales would also have to be I. Monster, or perhaps Leatherhead?

I've only read issue 4 of Tales. (the rat king issue), so I can't comment on that one (but i'm still trying to rectify that).
Volume one is easier (or harder I guess). I'm guessing we don't count the specials here (Leonardo, Raphel, etc) issue, because they aren't volume one issue (but if we did, Leonardo might be my first choice, or really not far away anyway).
But in the serie, um. City at war is the best turtle storyline easily, imo. But there are no issue that REALLY stand out, since it is so much connected between each issue. Aside from the aftermath, I guess. Which has my favorite moment from that saga (when Splinter says "daughter" to April, ahhhh, I always love that panel).
I'd go with issue 11. It's a great issue, which was well adapted in the first movie. I especially like to see each turtle's reaction to their defeat. Michelangelo's furious, without any jokes anymore, always training. But my favorite scene's when April talks about Raphael. He's the only turtle she truly do not know. And she wonders what he is doing all this time, outside at night. And we see him watching over the others, feeling responsible to his family.
Yep, issue 11's probably my all time favorite turtle issue.

Just because I can, I'm going to list all of my favorites for the comics, starting with the most important: The ones this thread is mostly about.
As far as Volume 1 of TMNT goes, while I own them all, I have yet to read them all. (I would say I have a good 45 - 50 of them done.) However, my favorite storyline period is City at War. It was just an all around good saga. Thinking back, I would have to say that (right now) my favorite ISSUE would be issue 10. That's when everything came together: Shredder returned (set up for Return to NY.), Casey finally joined the rest of the gang, including April (Though, differences were delt with in City at War and they were obviously married in Volume 4), Leo got his ass handed to him which lead to the AWESOME finale of the RtNY trilogy. All around, it just made everything fall into place for their world.
As for Tales... I wasn't too fond of the first Volume of Tales. However, Leatherhead and I, Monster were definately the best ones out of the 7 lot.
Volume 2 - Basically, since they're all just a combined story, the only issue that sticks out is issue 1. It marked a transition from traditional to new: Full Color, team split apart, Nobody becoming a main character, Stockman becoming a bot, April being injected with Nano Bots.
I don't own Volume 3 (yet) but I will say that I'm not too into it. So... that's off key for me.
Volume 4 - Definately 2 issues stick out: Splinter's funeral and the Vampires attacking poor Raph. Splinter's funeral is great because it shows us a lot of characters that we have yet (or already have) to meet in Tales. Not to mention that it was just overall a great issue. The Vampires attacking Raph really set the tone for these books because you knew that after that moment, things were never really going to be the same for them.
As far as Tales Volume 2 is concerned, I am ALL about Blind Faith. Lawson and Laird just did a tremendous job with book. I can't say it any better than that it was just a great Leo Tale. Issue 9 with Klunk dying also stands out, but not as much, as does the 2 parter with Leos from past and present meeting. Tales is by far the superior book out of the two thus far, however, if Laird and Lawson keep going in the direction they're going with TMNT, they could actually rival their own book.

I just picked that one up today for $4.00, and I can't wait to read it. Thumbing through the pages, I'm not too crazy about the art -- but at least the cover's kick-ass. :)

My volume 1 choice has got to be issue 10, the follow-up from the Leonardo special.

Yeah, that one was exceptionally written and drawn, and the story was great -- especially since it laid the groundwork for similar scenes in both the first TMNT movie in 1990 and the current 4Kids cartoon.

And don't forget the three-page pull-out, baby :o

Yeah, that three-page pull-out was pretty sick. I still haven't laid my issues down.
Favorite TMNT issue: #43
- The cover, alone, intrigued me when I saw this issue on the stands those many years ago. The story behind this issue was so unique, and I loved how they incorporated mythical legends into this story. The battles were amazing, drawn beautifully, and the twists were pretty cool! And what a great revelation the Turtles discover at the end of this issue... it brought a great smile to my face.
Favorite Tales issue: #7
- Around the time I read it for the first time, I had a little infatuation with dinosaurs and the Prehistoric times. It was great seeing my Turtles in a time period where they had to go against some of their own ancestors (maybe?). Plus, the final fight scene between the Turtles and Savanti Romero, atop the structure built of dinosaur bones, was pretty intense! I thought it was quite an adventure. Plus, Savanti Romero was my second favorite villain in the TMNT titles (behind Shredder, of course).
