For all of us playing the game/interested in the game, come in and post your cool ass stories...or whatever.
I'm on my 15th day in the Province of Cryodiil today and I finally found out how to join the Thieves Guild. My character, a Wood Elf with the created class of Elven Ranger named Pajamel (Old Morrowind name), is currently at the cusp of Level 2 and a sleep away from getting to level 3. So far I've gained one position in both the Fighters and Thieves Guilds. I just bought a house in Burma today. Besides the fact that I love the snow, it's also close to the only Thieves Guild Fence I know, so I can sell my stolen goods rather quickly. I've just begun to really start stealing everything I can get my hands on.
I've also commited my first murder in revenge. I asked some dick to give me some information and not only did he refuse, but he also told me to "Go back to the forest where you belong, annoying creature!". So basically...I tailed him until I found out where he lived. After I did I waited until about 2 am and then broke into his house. He was sound asleep in his bed! I loaded up an arrow and blew his f*cking brains out. The arrow went STRAIGHT THROUGH his skull and got stuck in the middle. He just kind of slid off the bed and stayed there. I stripped him and took all his stuff then walked out the door like nothing happened.
I haven't done much country side exploring yet, but I plan to very soon. So far I've run into quite a few nasty things in a couple of places. Including a troll who I knocked off a cliff and a knight who I shot off a horse. Then there was a maurader camp inside a beat up old Imperial base. I love setting off traps and having enemies killed by them. There seems to be a crap load of stuff hidden all over the place. I can't wait to roam some more.
So, I want to hear some stories. I want to know what everyone is up to! Go, Go, Go!

Character: Jamithor (random I know)
-Dark Elf
-Level 5
-Magic
-Marksman, Sneak and Security, and blunt weapons with light armor, restoration and alchemy as my major skills and destruction aint too far from it.
I have closed 2 gates so far, and the game is just awesome, have yet to find any guilds but im looking to find the mages guild soon enough. Im currently doing little side quests, but I have been doing a bit of the main quest.
Edit: Now in mages guild.
I originally had a warrior, but I wasn't fond of him, so I made a wood elf thief. I just started him up, so I haven't done much with him yet.
My warrior, however, had tales of epic proportions. I also committed a murder. It was basically the same thing Peanut did. I followed him to his house, waited until late at night, picked the lock to his house and slaughtered his ass in his sleep. It was too late at night for anyone to know, so I walked away like no event took place. It was amazing. I'm amazing.
The game owns my soul. Seriously.

So could one say that this is basically the game that Fable should have been?

This game looks too good to be true. God, it's like I'm being punished for all those years old being a goddamn blind fanboy.
Just how big is the scope of this sucker? It sounds unbelieveably massive.

Ok...I went back to play around 12 last night...and I just stopped right now. Yes, I am completely addicted. I called in sick to work and everything. I've just been going all over the place, all over the country side, looking for stuff to do. I've found so many settlements and ruins and stuff. It's insane. I found so many crazy things. Some of the highlights.
Stumbled across my 2nd and 3rd Oblivion gates. Found a town full of invisble people who were having a problem with an annoying Mage. Tracked down a "vampire hunter" who was killing innocent people. Met an insane little elf who thought an entire town was out to kill him. Did some awesome assasinations for the Dark Brotherhood, including messing with a guys furniture to make his death look like an accident and hunting down a pirate captain. Planted some false evidence on a Thieves Guild snitch to get her jailed. Found some church near an Elven ruin, went inside and found two necromancers mutilating people and creating zombies. That place was f*cked up, it scared the **** out of me.
Those are just a couple of awesome things that went down. There was sooooooo much more. God, this game rules so HARD!
BTW, Barkworm, Morrowind is the game Fable should have been. Oblivion takes everything annoying about Morrowind; graphics, fighting system, and makes them a million times better while also adding stuff I never even thought about. This is the best game ever made.

I had an INSANE night last night. I found 4 Oblivion gates while running around. Foud one right at the tip top of a mountain. It took me forever to find a trail that I could walk up. I also found an Oblivion gate that was pretty tricky. It gave me trouble for the first time. I also took a little run at being a Vampire, but I didn't feel like doing everything in the dark forever.
Other things, I'm Grand Champion of the Arena and I've gotten up a few ranks in the Dark Brotherhood. Pretty sweeeeeet.

Went up two ranks in the Arena, and went back to Dark Brotherhood, because they are insane and its so much fun, lots and lots of killing is always fun, and then searching the house for goodies to sell to a fence. This game is just too addicting and you dont know how long youve been playing until its too late kind of deal. Like I started at 11, and then 5pm rolls by and its time to give it up, but 6 hours just flew, with wild and ruthless murders, this game owns everyones lives!

Lol I don't think so dude...This game sounds pretty cool! I have Fable and I liked it so I'll have to check this out for sure. It sounds, from what Peanut said, to have more to it. In Fable there's really not to many different things to do. More like tons of quests and then when you bored you can slaughter people. Kinda like a GTA RPG <_< If this is on PC I'm already sold.
JameO

It is on the PC as well, but unless you have a really good computer, the specs are pretty far out, but a good upgraded computer should run it smoothly, Ai has the computer version.
Minimum System Requirements:
Windows XP
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse
But you definitely need this or higher to get the best out of the game!
Recommended:
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
Yeah, I have the PC version. Here's my current system, and I run the game at the highest settings.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
1gb Corsair RAM
GeForce 7800GTX
Sometimes when I'm outside, the grass and distant stuff lags me, but it only drops me to about 45fps. That's more than tolerable. Towns, dungeons, etc. run smooth as a whistle.

Ha. Okay, i'm lvl 4 (so close to 5) and I just killed two more Imperial Gaurds. Ha. I just got done with the "Floated Boat" quest, which was quite easy. Poor li'l Phyzzy has to wear such heavy armor for a lil Wood Elf....
What a great game!
I was about to go to bed when one of my friends stop by to check out the game. I honestly thought I'd played for 30 minutes and told him to leave cause I have to be up very early tomorrow. Turns out he'd watch me play for over 3 hours. You definitely lose track of time when you play this game.
Peanut

Don't I know it. I've already wasted entire days and not known it.
BTW, Spitfire, don't ever compare Fable to this game. I was hyped for Fable because it seemed like Morrowind with some cool features, like character aging, battle scars, marriage and what not, plus it had much better graphics and a good combat system. Morrowind lacked in graphics and combat, but overall was still a much better game than Fable, it was actually more like the super hyped "Project Ego" than Fable ever came to be. For open-ended, do what you want RPG gameplay, Morrowind was the only place to go. Fable promised to improve on the type of game Morrowind was and failed horribly.
Now Oblivion has come along and it blows Morrowind out of the water. From presentation, to combat, Oblivion surpasses Morrowind. If you want to compare Oblivion to anything, compare it to Morrowind or don't compare it at all. Fable is a short, shallow, although fun game. Oblivion on the other hand is long, deep, fun, immersive. It just doesn't get any better.

Why do all of you want to sit down on your asses and not do other stuff? I understand how big this game is.. Morrowind is sorta like that.. I am saying, if you play 2 horus a day, imagine how many years it would take to finish?
I am just stating my opinion.. You enjoy this game guys!

What the f*ck kind of comment is that? I want to play it because it's fun. It's addictive. I work all the time and when I come home I want to relax and have fun.
Why do you go around making an ass of yourself in every thread? Did you ever wonder why no one likes you? Knock it the hell off.

BACK TO THE TOPIC!
I don't have the game BTW...
Anyways... I'm curious about these Oblivion gates... I know that as part of the main quest, you're supposed to close them. I was curious how many gates there were, and how you're supposed to close them. Is it different for each gate or..?
JameO
03-26-2006, 09:50 PM
Peanut says that its stated that there are 16 but he thinks hes closed more than that, and who knows some might be secret and get special points, but all the gates are pretty much the same, different layout and buildings slightly, different setup, different monsters sometimes, but the way you close them, all the same, get to the top of the tower, and take a stone out of the holder, and presto, gate closed.
Peanut
03-26-2006, 09:54 PM
So far I've run into...way too many of them. I've closed at LEAST 16 so far. Oblivion gates are basically gates to the plains of Hell. In each one there's a tower, at the very top of the tower is a stone called a Sigil Stone. To close the gate you have to remove the stone.
The ways up to the top of the tower is mostly the same. There are several levels in each tower, filled with different types of Daedra and various traps. Each tower is basically the same in design, some exactly the same, but the outside areas are all fairly different. Some gates require you to make it to the top of 2, 3 or sometimes 5 smaller towers to flip switches and open gates, extend bridges etc., just to get to the main tower. While some require you to traverse caverns in order to get from one island of land, over to another where the towers is.
Honestly, the Oblivion gates have become something of a task now. The enemies continue to get stronger and more varied, but I'm just kind of tired of them. There seems like there's an endless supply of gates all over the world. Some of them are pretty fun, especially when a quest is involved with the gate, like saving a Counts son and his snotty knight friends from inside the gate. They're still kind of fun, but they're wearing thin. Luckily everything else in the game is perfect.

Just need to mention I found the best item ever yesterday. The Skeleton Key. It's an un-breakable lockpick that adds a +40 to your Security skill. Yes, that's right. A +40!!!!
Dang I need one of those.
Holy sh*t! Was that a random dungeon drop, or was it quest-related? I gotta get me one of those!

That skeleton key sure is nice! I wish I had this game.. Say how many hours have you guys been playign this.. Don't worry, I'm not here to argue with you guys.. Considering I got another warning, I am not going to ask why.. I can't do anything bad this time..

Quest related. Head out of Leyawinn headed North East. If you come up against that Inn, (I forget the name I think it's Ill Omen or something to that affect) you went too far. Anyways, North East from Leyawinn is a Daedra shrine. You need to be at least level 10 to get the quest. Talk to the big statue and the Daedra God will give you a quest to find her missing "eye". Super easy quest. The only thing you'll have to kill is about 2 trolls. After you get the quest, talk to a guard in Leyawinn about rumors and he'll start you off on the track for the eye.
Oh, that's mad badass. I gotta get that quest tonight. Thanks for the info. I hate breaking lockpicks.

gah! you beaten the main story already? I didn't expect you tbeat it that quickly.
Say how many hours have you been playing and have you unlocked any acheivements yet?
Peanut
03-29-2006, 05:17 PM
41 hours and something minutes. I've unlocked all the main quest achievments and all the Dark Brotherhood and Arena achievments. It should be noted that I've explored less than 1/4th of the game world and I've played little to none of the three main guilds. I still have a ton to do and without those damn Oblivion gates it'll be a lot better.
So much left and over 40+ hours into it...and to think this game is even set up for DLC! w00t!

I havent played in like 2 days, school and work taking my time, but tommorow and all day Friday off I shall get back into it, and I will probably complete the main quest just to get rid of the oblvion gates as well, but ive been playing the Mages Guild with my newest character to get into the university to make my own spells, and to be an insane mage. Ive got a good 26 hours into this game, and alot more soon once my time frees back up.
