Well, we've got this thing to do for school, we have to setup or Fedora Core 4 and do all these things in the assignment, anyone with Linux knowledge, can you please help because im so lost on this, thanks alot, sites would be helpful or code if you know what you are doing! Thanks alot in advanced.

(a) setup your system to boot to run level 3
(b) setup your system so that the command "mount /dev/fd0" will attached a floppy disk to the directory "/floppy"
(c) install the rpm package for the "tree" utility (from your Fedora Core 4 DVD or CDs)
(d) setup your system login banner to say "There are 10 types of people, those who understand binary and those who do not." (to be displayed on all virtual consoles before the login prompt)
(e) setup your system login message to say "In theory, there is no difference between practice and theory. In practice, there is." (User should see this after login to the system)
(f) setup your system so that every user has a command alias called "deltmpdir" which will delete the contents of a directory called "tmp" below their home directory.
(g) setup your system so that your learn account has a shell prompt that includes todays date.

2. Intermediate tasks
Research on your Fedora Core 4 system to come up with sets of commands to accomplish the following tasks :
(5 points for each completed task)

(a) A listing of all the files under the /tmp directory and its sub-directories that have been created or changed since the system was booted.
(b) A listing of all the files under the /etc directory and all its sub-directories that have been created or modified since mid-night.
(c) A listing of all the files under the /var directory and all its sub-directories that have been created or modified within the last 7 days.
(d) A listing of all the files under the /home directory and all its sub-directories that were more than 7 days old

Put each set of commands in a separate file. Name the file for task (a) as "asgm1a.sh", task (b) as "asgm1b.sh", etc.
These files should execute as shell scripts by entering ./asgm1x.sh with no errors. Where 'x' is the task letter.

3. Applied Research
Study the man page for the "sudo" command and
(a) (20 points) update (use the proper program) sudo's configuration file to allow your learn account to run sudo for the following commands as root:
mount
ls
ifconfig
route
(b) (10 points) Create a new user called "helper" and allow this user to run sudo for the following commands as your learn account:
ls
less

I use Linux regularly at work, but since I access the server through SSH, I'm not very familiar with the commands used for setting up the system (so I can't help much with the first section). It looks like (b) and (f) involve the alias (http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man1/alias.1.html) command, though.

2. Intermediate tasks
Research on your Fedora Core 4 system to come up with sets of commands to accomplish the following tasks :
Each of these involve the find (http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man1/find.1.html) command. It looks like you will need to use the -daystart (http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?find) argument as part of (b). (b), (c), and (d) each need to use the -mtime argument ((b) and (c) need negative numeric time arguments while (d) needs a positive one).

3. Applied Research
Study the man page for the "sudo" command and
Sudo's configuration file is usually located at /etc/sudoers, although you'll need to use the visudo command to edit it. This page (http://www.unixcities.com/sudo/) should help you get it set up.

Thank you very much Krang that was very helpful, I shall do that tommorow and get it all fixed, yeah Linux is a bit tricky but I want to really get good at it because it is very powerful and used everywhere now.
