Just saw it yesterday, and thought it was awesome...I never would have thought something like that could have happened during the Civil War. Anyone else like it, dislike it, what?

I want to see this movie so bad. It got great reviews and looks like an academy award winner, so I hope to see it soon...

Even though I'm not that much of a Dicraprio fan... this movie still sounds like something I'd like to see. Just the whole history of it, the New York backdrop, and the political strife sounds intriquing.
Then my husband sez he rather see "Catch me if You can". Bah... very likely we won't see either in theaters (as usual) and I'll have to wait till we can get them on DVD. :/

DiCaprio is actually a good actor, but I am not a "fan" of him I guess...
I mainly wanted to see it for the history, it all seems very interesting, if only I had time... :o

That's the exact reason I drug my boyfriend to see it with me. It really shows how the Irish immigrants got a bad deal when they came to America during their famine.

Some of my friends went to see catch me if you can, and they said that it was pretty good...mostly because DiCaprio played a role he wouldn't nessarily play...at least that's what the majority is saying.

The thing is, you can tell DiCaprio would be great at comedy the same way Tobey Maguire was great at the super hero genre (BTW, both actors happen to be good friends)

Well in Gangs, he proves to be a great serious actor, which I never thought I would admit this, but I believe that his preformance in Gangs made me a fan of his...or I'm just have a dillusional moment, which is possible

I don't know, I don't really like him, but he is a really good actor and proved so in both GONY and Titanic I think.
Oh God, Don't even mention that horrible name Toby Maguire...
Hey, don't get so happy about the Irish when Nunchucker is around...

The only movie where I've seen him in where his acting was less than laudable was in Baz L.'s "Romeo And Juliet". Hell, the movie in itself just plain stunk! If they wanted to modernize it, they should've gone all the way, not just with the setting. Here's what I think should have happened:
Instead of a California city, the setting should've been in some small hole-in-the-ground town in Georgia (think of the second season of The Jeff Foxworthy Show, only an even lower standard of living than that). After all, in this modern society the phrase "family feud" brings up an image of rednecks/hillbillies rather than rich city-dwellers. The language should have been in a southern dialect rather than using the original script. That's one thing that turned me off about the movie, modern setting but using the orignal script. That = BAAAAAAAD idea IMO. Instead of saying "a plague on both your houses!", I would have loved to hear something along the lines of, "May every damn one'a y'all burn in Hell, ya bunch of (insert derogatory word for "homosexual" here)s!" One last thing; some of the customs and gustures should've been modernized as well. Remember the line "do you bite your thumb at ME?"? I was thinking more along the lines of, "Did ya just flick me off, bud?" You know how you want to give somebody the finger secretly by scratching you chin with the middle finger instead of the index? Yeah, you get the picture. And yes, I know they used guns in the movie, but they still referred to them as "swords". I would have liked this much better: instead of "bring me my long sword!" or whatever it was in the play, why not, "Edna...git me muh magnum! Daddy's got sum business ta settle!" And of course the party would be the average high school student's wild booze party, and the king or whoever would instead be the town marshall.
Trust me, I'm not saying it should've been a comedy; the tragic mood should have still been in there, just in this kind of way...

Wow, that is a really awful idea... :o

I personally don't think so :P :P :P
Now that I think of it, it does sound a bit comedic...
At least there's not Mountain Men in it

You are right... the Romeo and Juliet movie he did was bad, they really butchered one of the greatest tragdies known to man kind, but I think DiCaprio made up for it in GONY.

DiCaprio might've sucked as Romeo, but I thought Claire Danes was great as Juliet.
