View Full Version : It's about time TMNT went back to Miguzi I'd say

Not that it'll actually happen but it's heavily wasted in that weekend 6AM slot. Though they have managed to get up to season 3 with that without skipping an episode or stopping the run so we might actually get some premieres in that gosh awful slot.

Anyway I just heard Kids Next Door will be taking Code LYOKO's 4PM slot on May 15th. Seems to me as LYOKO's constant reruns finally caught up with it and CN decided to switch it out. Not sure how long they'll keep KND there but I really think it would be excellent is Miguzi aired TMNT at 4PM. It's not "ideal" I suppose but at least it's not 6AM.

They've got 26 episodes of season 4 I imagine including the yet to be aired in the US episode "Insane in the Membrane" and they didn't air the last 3 episodes of season 3 either. So that's 29 fresh episodes. Almost 6 weeks of premieres. Surely they could do something with that (and maybe that's what they were waiting for).

Anyway I'd really love for TMNT to be at 4PM on Miguzi this summer. It seemed to fit the oceanic scenery pretty well and I'm sure CN wont want to try it in prime time at this point... Heck I'd take 6AM on weekdays as long as it isn't just twice a week anymore. The show has 104 episodes total now and that's more than many of CN's currently airing shows have to run. I know it isn't going to be a huge hit with kids still but they should at least try it again. I don't think borrowing 4PM on Miguzi for a while would hurt anything. Infact it could help TMNT be more successful and in turn get viewers interested in Fast Forward as CN apparently will be airing it according to the original press release.

I'd certainly settle for Toonami airing it but it's got 29 episodes and that'd take half a year on Toonami's one slot per week schedule.

CN could easily run seasons 1 through 3 on weekdays preferably NOT on Miguzi (what do ppl see in this little brand is beyond me  ) like around the 9 - 10:30 pm timeslot and air season 4 episodes on saturday nights 7 or 7:30 pm slot in Toonami (where it should have been all along :D ) Its almost unfair for CN to get another chance at the franchise when they didnt try their best to put it in better timeslots before but as long as TMNT is still running ill let it pass

Personally, I'd love for it to be aired in Toonami. Hell, they could air it back to back with Naruto, "The Ninja Power Hour"!

But, I assume they'll bring it back to Miguzi or something next year, when the movie premires.

Next year? Baring Fast Forward... if TMNT isn't on weekdays by the end of this year it wont be back on weekdays on CN ever again.

Miguzi is quite successful with kids. Fact of the matter is TMNT is a kids show (just a darn good downright brilliant one that attracts a lot of adult viewers). I can't say I ever expect CN to give Ninja Turtles a shot in prime time. They should have done that in the first place. Now they wont bother.

If it aired on Toonami, at least it would be on at a decent time. Having it next to Naruto would be rock'n I'm sure 4kids would love to have a sandwhich with TMNT and One Piece both next to Naruto on Toonami. I'd be happy with even 7:30 on Toonami (as 7PM has been bought by Hasbro it seems).

But I don't think there is anything wrong with Miguzi it just airs some dumb shows on occasion. It was a good home for TMNT when it first joined CN. TMNT fit next to Teen Titans at least.

I'd love for TMNT to be in CN prime time but honestly if it doesn't go back to Miguzi I'd expect it's only shot at weekdays to be between 6AM and 7:30AM not in prime time. CN wants to use that time for their own shows, Xiaolin Showdown and Naruto this summer. They all seem to do quite well in the 6PM-10PM time frame. But I'd be ALL FOR Naruto and TMNT pre-AS. A weekday ninja power hour would be even better than a once a week one.

Beggers can't be choosers though I suppose... That's why I think it'd be good if it went back to Miguzi and I'd even take early morning airings just as long as it's 4-5 days a week again.

You have some good valid points but i dont think i can stand another TMNT run on CN at 6/6:30 in the morning on ANY day the week. I pretty muched had no shot of seeing the final season of Yu Yu Hakusho at 5:30 am every saturday morning. The "geniuses" of CN programming must have thought it to be a good idea  Either way we all shouldnt lower our aims to think that it couldnt come back at a reasonable timeslot IMO. So i almost hope the Fast Forward doesnt suck and brings in good ratings on CN this Fall so we could benefit for some more ninja turtles viewing pleasure (can't have to much of a good thing i always say  )

Well, I know this has probably been done before, but if you want TMNT back in a good timeslot, start petitions. Talk to any TMNT fan you can, tell them to start circulating petitions, start sending emails, making phone calls, hell, picket outside Turner Studios if you can. Just tell them when you want to see TMNT.

I mean, it's not like were asking them to uncancel something, just to move a show already exsisting on theyr'e network to a better timeslot.

Also, play the new movie card. I mean, in honor of the Spider-Man movie, Toon Disney adopted Spider_Man TAS and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, and in honor of X3, Kids WB is renewing X-Men Evolution, the least CN could do is move TMNT to a better timeslot.

Ninja Tiptup
05-04-2006, 01:59 AM
What are you talking about? KWB isn't renewing X-Men EVO. Heck CN didn't even air all the episodes and KWB only air the finale once (and I missed it :() but they are putting it all on DVD I hear. And there is a new series coming to CN in 2007 called Wolverine and the X-Men. But I've heard nothing of EVO being renewed.

Yeah I don't want to set my sights low but honestly TMNT flopped with kids on CN and they aren't smart enough to aim it at older viewers (say 9-14 at least on Toonami). So I'll take what I can get. But I suggest Miguzi because it at least worked there originally and got good enough ratings to stay on there for over a year.

Petitions... almost entirely useless. CN took note when they were informed TMNT wasn't on and that people still wanted to watch it. And we all know what they did... they put at 6AM on Saturday and Sunday. Useless... and I'm surprised it even holds on to the slot at this point.

To be fair... YYH bombed worse than TMNT did so it got a worse slot (meaning 5:30AM) but at least it finished. That once again was a case of CN forgetting they even had it until someone brought the situation to their table and they remedied that by putting it in a slot next to no one would watch (but they could tape it, that's what I did).

The thing about CN... they don't like to change their formula much if at all. When they find something works they don't dare try something different to see if it works better. They leave "well enough alone" until it isn't well anymore which is a lousy way to work honestly... they should be more experimental and they should also aim to be a general animation channel not a kids channel at this point... they'll never beat Nick and really should stop trying. Their overall ratings were better when they were interested in ALL viewers and not just 2-11 and 18-34 (for Adult Swim). And don't even suggest AS air TMNT. That's rediculous. It's a kid's show and we all know it.

In a perfect world, TMNT would air next to Naruto 9-10PM before Adult Swim. I'd love to set my sights on THAT but that's not very reasonable. They don't take a bomb and try it in a key slot in prime time. They never have and they never will. So Miguzi at 4PM is more than good enough if you ask me. And if it gets good enough ratings there then it could move to a more favorable slot.

But why tiptup would they (CN) even bother with fast forward then and put it at a more repectable timeslot where we are all assume it may end up when it premieres?? Its seems CN didnt follow its regular simplistic formula of "leaving well enough alone and not trying something new with scheduling" (which i completely agree with you) where Fast Forward is concerend. I dont know what CN is thinking but just cause it has a "Fast" and a "Forward" in the title now doesnt make it stop being associated with ninja turtles which bombed for the audience they were aiming for.

4kids probably made it worth their while to even consider showing Fast Forward. But actually I think 4kids just said... "Hey so it doesn't work with kids right? Well we'll make it more kid friendly. Will you play it now?" And the CN crew was like "Alright... you get one more chance because we just don't care anymore". And there you have it.

Something like that.

Though they have managed to get up to season 3 with that without skipping an episode......

*blinks* Where did you get the idea that those idiots at CN have gotten to Season 3 WITHOUT skipping any eps?! They skipped the ENTIRE "City at War" ep-arc back when IT was SUPPOSED air after "Return to the Underground" in March of this year! I could NOT believe that they did that! They need to back up to that point and run "C.A.W." in it's proper place in the ep-order. It WOULDN'T be THAT hard to do. A liitle inconvenient for US right at the moment, maybe, given where the eps currently ARE, but it would make more ep-continuity sense.

And that's MY two cents on the matter.

Peace.

Dude... simmer.

They didn't SKIP anything (at least originally). They aired 43 instead of 40 back in the first run because they were only give 40 episodes originally and didn't want to just air the first part of City at War and then go into reruns. They did us a favor by NOT airing part 1 and choosing to throw in Junklantis in that spot instead then getting more episodes and airing all of City at War together (quite a few times I might add). That's what I think you are talking about anyway.

I just though they hadn't skipped any episodes in the CURRENT 6AM Saturday and Sunday morning run since it started up in 2005. I could be wrong on that so is that what you meant? I didn't notice a skip but I haven't been watching very often either, just checking the schedule to see where it is.

But they did skip some episodes in rerun airings such as Same as it Never Was being replaced when it was suppose to air the 2nd time (it aired the first time though). But once again I didn't think they skipped any in this current twice a week 6AM slot. That's all I mean and I could be wrong.

About X-Men Evo, I saw it on Wikipedia. On the X-Men 3 The Last Stand page. But I'm not entirley sure, it could be a sick joke.

But anywayI doubt that TMNT will be going to Toonami. Once JLU goes, Toonami will be pure anime, and I think they know it and want it that way. That's the thing about these idiot network executives. They seem to believe they can please the viewing public by cramming watered downed anime down our throats(and I'll die before I let TMNT get animed-up), and 4Kids and CN are doing it the most. That's why I belive JLU was cancelled, it was cheaper to bring over crappy anime shows rather than fund a really good domestic show.

So I think unless we take a stand, TMNT better get used to that 6 am(or for me 3 am) spot.

This ridiculous way of thinking by executives for cartoons that you spoke of might stay this way for the next decade if your name isnt Nickelodeon although Kids WB in the fall is starting to go back to their usual glory days with no anime at all cramming up the saturday block like from the early 90s. i really cant believe that from 10 years ago from watching my very first anime which was the first Tenchi Muyo movie till now im starting to hate on it. Too much of a good thing going to waste i suppose thanks the network executives pretty much putting the anime brand "stamp" on properties that it has no business being on to begin with ( Gi Joe Sigma Six im looking at you:D.) or having watered down forms of a anime property like u said before. No one could ever make me believe that watering down an art form (which is what anime is) from its original form is justified for doing so. No one is doing that with a famous painting, statue, or musical so why should there be a double standard for animation :( ?? By the way wasnt a anime version/ova of TMNT already out Rapheal?? something about them turning into power ranger esque ninja turtles which is quite ironic since it WAS Power Rangers when it premiered that made ppl forget about all bout TMNT in its heyday before the new series came out. I know it did that for me and im not ashamed to say so, i was young back then so sue me

Bet your bottom dollar that Fast Forward will look more "anime-esque" than the current TMNT does (Dong Woo has that effect on the show as it did with He-Man, but it's 4kids character designers truely at the helm there).

All anime Toonami sounds fine to me? You know why? Because that's about the only time anime airs on CN at this point. At least the most watchable time. And while I like TMNT better than all of them... Naruto, Zatch Bell, Bo-Bobo and IGPX are great shows. One Piece is awesome but 4kids ruined it to the point that it I can't call it One Piece anymore.

CN didn't annouce ANY new anime at their upfront this year. But they DID annouce they will be airing a new Fantastic Four series, will be showing the Legion of Super Heroes toon which KWB will also show this Fall and have several North American action movie premieres set for Toonami this year including 2 Hellboy features, 4 Marvel movies (one which already aired, hope you caught Ulimate Avengers, it was awesome) and 2 original features by Stan Lee (not Marvel apparently). On top of that, 26 more episodes of The Batman will air on CN starting this summer (probably in Toonami, as the first season was).

JLU's kids ratings dropped significantly and now they aren't very good at all. This is a problem TMNT has as well. CN wants 6-11 and only 2-14. Adults they leave to AS and teens... neither care about. JLU isn't working with kids anymore, that's why it was canned. Not because CN doesn't want to spend the money. Gosh man CN throws huge sums of money on original cartoons that aren't nearly as good like Ben 10. Anime is only there because of Toonami unless they have a break-out hit in which case it'll end up on Miguzi for a while or in a single slot in CN prime time.

This is how it works on Toonami right now. Naruto is their #1 draw. It gets the centerpiece slot at 9PM. Zatch Bell and One Piece are 2nd and 3rd in ratings and they air next to Naruto. Bo-Bobo manages decently at 10PM. Hasbro has bought 7PM for Duel Masters and Transformers at the cost of advertising space. I don't know how long that deal is in effect but they wouldn't even pre-empt them for Miyazaki month. 7:30 has been "filler" since Rave Master left last year. They've tried extra episodes of Teen Titans and Naruto there, even crap like Yu-Gi-Oh! back in August... now they're going with DBZ because it still gets ratings but they don't want to use it for space. JLU is on it's way out but it gets good older viewer ratings so they put it last possibly to boost Adult Swim. But mainly because while they want to finish it they don't want to use a better slot for it because kids aren't watching. On the anime perspective... IGPX will replace when it finishes and that's an original anime CN and Production IG cooked up that also suffers from not getting enough kids watching. Thus why it's last on the line-up and will only have 26 episodes total (13 less than JLU for the record, 26 less than Samurai Jack, but exactly the same as Megas XLR - could be because they are both robot shows). The Naruto encore at 8:30 isn't neccessary IMO, it'll probably be gone soon but it's not horrible either. They don't seem to have anything line-up to air in that slot at the moment because that drek Wulin Warriors bombed so hard.

Anyway... I don't expect to see an all anime Toonami this year. It's quite unlikely infact. They'll be using their new streaming service to pimp anime to the mass with the help of Viz Media (owners of Naruto, Zatch Bell and the Shonen JUMP brand in the US).

Instead I figure at least one of the two new super hero shows will air in the 8PM slot (Fantastic Four and or Legion of Super Heroes) and The Batman's CN premieres will also air first at 8:30 or 8PM and then maybe take DBZ's slot when another show needs to take 8 or 8:30PM.

I'm all for an all-anime Toonami but I do like some North American action flavor in their for kicks. My ideal choice would be TMNT but unfortunately CN doesn't have a clue that show would do well on Toonami. JLU leaving is a HUGE loss because it's also the end of the DCAU (a continuity that began with Batman: TAS) but all good things must come to an end. The end just comes sooner when it's a kids show that doesn't bring in kids...

TMNT: Fast Forward is suppose to be a bit more kid friendly. At least it seems like that's the intention. Adding kid characters for the turtles to mentor and probably being a bit more episodic. One of the reasons kids don't watch TMNT (or JLU) is the continuity is so vast and notable and gets referenced quite often leaving them feeling like they can't enjoy it without seeing every episode. To some it's motivation to watch it all. To others it's the straw that broke the camels back on wether or not they'll ever bother watching it.

Apparently continuity kills kid viewership. They're a bit too ansy to sit through a long story.

But I hate to see TMNT wasting away at a 6AM weekend slot on CN. So if Miguzi wont air it again (because the 6-11 ratings aren't good enough) then focus it to 9-14 and stick it on Toonami. There it will get the respect it deserves and the ratings it needs to have a future on CN.

TMNT is one of (if not) the best action shows on television. Toonami is said to be "the home of the best aciton cartoons" it's a no brainer.

Some might say because it already flopped it's not worth the effort. Well it sure worked for 4kids drek dub of One Piece didn't it? Toonami could rescue TMNT, give it a steady premiere slot at a watchable time and promote it enough for it to get noticed by casual viewers (who probably don't think it's even on CN anymore).

Pair it with Transformers this June for an 80's revival power hour at the top of the block and with the risk being a bit toyetic for the first 2 hours of Toonami... I recommend putting The Batman or the new Fantastic Four at 8PM along with that.

So something like this...

07:00 - Transformers Cybertron
07:30 - Ninja Turtles (starting with Bishop's Gambit)
08:00 - The Batman
08:30 - Zatch Bell
09:00 - Naruto
09:30 - One Piece
10:00 - Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo
10:30 - IGPX Season 2

To TMNT's benefit (along with it's fans) Toonami could premiere the episode 4kidsTV "forgot" to air this season. And possibly "The Lost" season next year. They'd also be able to go straight into Fast Forward if they continue with a once a week premiere schedule on Toonami and some would consider that benefitial. So much like One Piece in 2005, Toonami would be airing a bit behind 4kidsTV when Fast Forward rolls around.

The only downside is it would just be on once a week. However if it regained enough audience by being on Toonami it could return to weekdays for reruns. Perhaps even in prime time if the opportunity arrose.

The thing about JLU is, CN never cared about it from the start. They rarley promoted it, the dumped it in a crappy timeslot, they don't air reruns. They put more effort into promoting Teen Titans, since younger kids liked that more. CN seems to think that when it comes to action shows, it should be all anime. They never gave Samurai Jack a chance, they never gave JLU a chance, and they never gave TMNT a chance. But look what did take off, Totally Spies, Code Lyoko, Teen Titans, all in the anime-esque style. CN has almost no intrest in TMNT, to them great writting and animation don't mean anything. It's all about comedy and anime to them.

It's truely strange. A cartoon that's obviously crappy can become a hit while good shows are cast down. And this has been happening for a long while. Gargoyles and Ren and Stimpy were taken from their creators and turned to crap, Rocko's Modern Life, Clerks, Masters of the Universe, The Tick, and Invader Zim were all canceled before theyr'e time, JLU was never given a fair shot, TMNT is about to be turned into Fast Foward which leaves out everything that made TMNT good, G.I. Joe, Batman, and The Looney Toons have been camped downed and animed up, it's insane. And with the sudden rise in anime popularity, it's only been made worse.

There are so few good ones left,

Like i said before in my previous post hating on anime is not the way to go for me. I do hope in the future it does grow to become a more dominant force in America and be repected for its true and untainted art form. Its hard to do that right now since we have networks who do whatever they can for the sake of not offending some "insert name" group or from them making money. TMNT should no doubt be on Toonami ( a DEFINITE no brainer) as you all had said. if they can show Wulin Warriors :dead:  then they can show TMNT. im sure we dont have to worry bout it dying like that poor wreck of a show. CN should use that as their standard from now on when brining new series of any kind, if u get bumped off the block from the next week of your premier week dont bother showing up ever again and fire the yutz who thought it was a good idea to put it on the slot to begin with. that is how you show efficient and quality programming :P

ps - i have seen Ultimate Avengers a real good spring board for Marvel animation to stir up in the future since DC is kinda dwindling with their amount of new animated shows cant wait for the second release this summer and im even gonna give the new fantastic four a go even though its following the same formula as GI Joe did with anime  please DO NOT suck ;)

ps - i have seen Ultimate Avengers a real good spring board for Marvel animation to stir up in the future since DC is kinda dwindling with their amount of new animated shows cant wait for the second release this summer and im even gonna give the new fantastic four a go even though its following the same formula as GI Joe did with anime  please DO NOT suck ;)

Wait, you wan't anime to be a MORE domant force? It's dominatnt enough. It's so dominant, it's getting harder for American cartoonists to make it in the industry. I hope in the future theres less anime, more domestic stuff. We don't need anymore.

As I stated before, I doubt CN will bring TMNT to Toonami at least until the movie comes out, or if Fast Foward hits big.

It's no more difficult now that it has been for years. But most of the North American animated series on right now are very mediocre. JLU, TMNT, Avatar, and some comedy programs are all I can truely enjoy at this point.

What do you mean CN didn't promote JLU? They promoted it a ton when it started up and even more when it was getting 1,000,000 with kids 6-11. Then it dropped to around 500,000 and continued to drop so CN stopped promoting it and pulled it off the air for a while. They promoted it off Toonami for a while when it first came back but now its just promoted in Toonami.

CN isn't style or genre bias. They just promote what currently works for them.

And while it may shock and dismay the masses... Zatch Bell at 8:30 beat JLU's ratings in that slot and Naruto kicked the crap out of Megas XLR's ratings (man I miss that show).

I'll give you Jack though. CN should have treated it a lot better near the end of it's run and they held off on airing the last 4 episodes for far too long. On top of that it didn't have a conclusion and that ticks me off most of all. At least JLU is getting that much (or so I hear from UK viewers that already saw next week's episode).

Before JLU there was also Justice League. Most shows only go 52 episodes on CN. JL did that and somehow managed to get 39 more with JLU and that's nothing to scoff at.

I'm sick of people saying CN never gave TMNT a chance. They started up a new block aimed at 6-11 kids with TMNT in the intial line-up. They promoted it a lot (and quite well) and it was on that same slot for at least a year. Only when it started to drop in ratings did CN start treating it poorly. It's what they always do. It's nothing new.

Plenty of good NA shows have been screwed by the Cartoon Network but even more anime have. Some didn't even finish. Several didn't finish at a watchable time. Though some didn't deserve to IMO, DICE was a horrible waste of slot so I'm glad it was sent to the very same 6AM slot TMNT is currently occupying. Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam SEED and Rurouni Kenshin were treated far worse than TMNT and at least TMNT is still on while those licenses have all expired (and Kenshin was actually doing well when CN gave it up, just not well enough to be renewed apparently).

IGPX is in the same slot as JLU and wont be getting a rerun on CN either...

CN is fickle for sure but not bias towards anything in particular. They just treat whatever is working a lot better than what "isn't working". IMO they should treat what they consider "failures" a LOT better. At least the ones that are actually good shows like TMNT.

I don't think it would be bad for anime to be more prominate as long as it isn't westernize anime. We had a lot more anime on Saturday mornings back in the days of Fox Kids (post Pokemon joining KWB) but most were gosh awful dubs not worth being consider "anime". KWB is anime free this Fall. 4kidsTV has some co-productions but the only shows originating soley in Japan will be two girls shows. Quite a bit less than a few years ago when TMNT was the only non-Japanese show on the whole block (and a breathe of fresh air for sure). CN is basically the main channel that airs anime because it works for them (often enough). But even so they don't air nearly as much as they use to and haven't yet picked up any more anime this year just produced or funded a lot of home grown projects and bought a slew of North American animated movies.

So this whole "CN just likes anime" talk is rediculous.

CN has a crappy line-up overall. Toonami is about the only good thing about that channel now besides maybe Fosters and of course TMNT but it's hardly watchable right now. I have many many MANY gripes with CN (more than you do I'd imagine) but I don't think airing anime as much as they do is the problem or is hurting other shows from being successful. CN tends to treat things well from the get-go but the first sign of problems causes CN to curl up and get defensive with their programing, first they try to boost in by various means and then they just screw it over when they don't make it "work" like they want. Reguardless of it's origin.

I guess I'm just upset that once JLU goes, TMNT will be the last remaning good american action toon I actually watch. I think JLU got cancelled is because CN did a crappy job promoting all the new episodes, but not only that, they never bothered to air reruns at good times so that more people would be aware of it.

What made the entire DCAU so good was that the art style was unique, and it showed how good american toons can be. And you don't see that anymore, instead of creating theyr'e own style like Bruce Timm did, most animators today just use the same generic animie-esque style. It was okay at first, but now it's just redundant.

But back on topic, TMNT won't be going to Toonami anytime soon. To networks, a show is only good based on the ratings it gets, nothing else matters. TMNT didn't get "satisfactory" ratings, and thus CN cast it aside without a second thought. So until either FF makes it big or the movie comes out, TMNT is doomed to that hel hole of a spot.

I'm mad JLU and the DCAU die next week but for the most part CN promoted JLU quite well and as for reruns... it was never on weekdays (not JLU, but JL did) but it did get encores on Sunday for a while. I want to believe it'll get a shot at pre-Adult Swim weekdays after it finishes but I know that's just a useless hope.
