After looking for 6 years for a screen used Raphael head or replica I finally decided to hire an FX artist to make me one. He is doing Raphael from the first film without any animtronics in a different type of latex so that It will last. Its going to take him 2months to make and he will also make a custom display case for it. I cannot wait to see the finished product. I will post pics once it is finished. Does anyone have a head or replica in there collection?

Yep, I'm making one myself. It's Raphael from the first movie. It's not full scale but the Leonardo one that I have is. I'll have to post some pics.
If you go to www.sabacooza.deviantart.com there should be some pics of my Leo sculpture.

WOW, that is amazing. What are you using for latex and bandana?

That's a pretty rad Leonardo sculpt you're making -- how many hours have you put into it thus far?

I hope you don't mind Sabby...It's got a little TMNT III influences as well.

Yeah I found his other leonardo as well based on the third movie. The updated Raphael pics look better that he has. The pics posted are kind of rough but you can see him coming along.:)

I was going to cast both the Life size Leo bust and the smaller Raphael bust in a rigid polyurathane which is just a fancy word for hard plastic. There's a site called monstermakers.com that carries that stuff called pour -a- cast. It's a two part mixing compound. When it's mixed, it gets very hot and quickly solidifies into a hard white plastic.
I've decided to stay away from foam latex because from what I've read, it's very tricky to mix it just right. Then it has to be baked in an oven. I have used liquid latex before and that works pretty well and is more forgiving.
The bandanna will be painted on the plastic model. What I'll do for that is use a flat paint and then a paint with a glossy finish for the skin to give it that wet sweaty look.

Way too many and it's not even close to being done. LOL But seriously, I couldn't really tell you because I never kept track. If I'd have to make a guess, I'd say around six or eight hours.

Nope, I don't mind at all. It saves me the trouble of doing it myself.:D Unfortunately, Raph resembles the 3rd movie's Raph a little but I'm not about to change it now. I'd be too afraid of screwing it up.

Whatcha talkin bout? That was a figment of your imagination. That God awful sculpture does not exist. Your eyes decieve you. That old Leo sculpture looks like refried turd but I was to lazy to take it down. The Raph sculpture is very old and is further along than those pictures you see.

Thanks NinjaTurtlesFan and thanks to everyone for the comments. All I can say is that the Raph and the Leo sculpts are put on the backburner for now while the smaller one is slated for an August release. I plan to give that to Peter Laird when I meet him in September at the Toronto Comicon. The look on his face will be priceless.

Yes, but it's God that was gracious enough to bless be with these skills so now, who's greater?
I understand what you mean and I very much appreciate the kind compliment.:)

Hey Sabacooza, I have no clue what Deviantart is, so I couldn't navigate too well. Can you post pictures, or links to pics, of your leo and raph sculptures. (I see some pictures posted in the thread, is that Raph or Leo?)

OK, how exactly do you do that?
Is there a step by step process on how to get something that cool? Painting it is a whole nother matter, however..Plus, how much does it cost to make something like that?

The early pics posted on this thread are Raph from the first movie and the pics right below are Leo from the second movie

If you go to monstermakers.com, they sell armatures that you can buy. Basically what it is, is a bust of a person to sculpt over top of. The first thing I do when sculpting something like this is to get plenty of reference photos. The more angles you have of your subject you want to sculpt, the better.
For the eyes, I went out and bought ping pong balls and cut them in half.
There really is no real trick to sculpting something like this except look at your reference material very carefully and apply it to your sculpture.
It cost about $200.00 to make so far but I still need to buy more clay so the price will add up.

Thanks and yes, I urge you to give it a try. I find sculpting to be pretty liberating and relaxing but that's just me.

I certainly will but it'll be slow going. I have very important things to tend to.
