View Full Version : Next Gen Consoles: Price Time! Here's my opinion

The XBox 360 is available in 2 version: Core $299.99 and Premium for $399.99
The PlayStation 3 is going to be available in 2 versions as well. One of them will be $499.99 and the other will be $599.99
The Nintendo Wii will be $199.99
Here's my oppinion: Buy an XBox 360 and a Nintedno Wii. Together they cost as much as 1 Playstation 3 at $600. I would think peiople would want 2 cool systems for the price of what PS3 will cost. I love the PlayStation 2, and Playstation 3 looks great, but I just don't want to pay that much for a console. Anyways, I already have an XBox 360, so next for me will be the Nintendo Wii. I also think the games are better for 360 and Wii.

That's pretty much what Peter Moore said a couple of days ago. I want all three of them but I am not willing to pay more than 300 for each.

As much as I hate Sony, I'd probably still buy the PS3 at some point down the road, but until it drops about...$400 I'm not touching it. I'd be willing to pay the same price as a 360 for one...if it didn't have a completely awful list of upcoming games.

Hehe, as easy as it would be to jump on the bandwagon and start bashing Sony for their recent choices, we must have faith in the venerable company and their decisions. Remember, this is the company that has had a stranglehold on the gaming market for the past five years, the company that created the dominant console of the 128-bit era, and the home of Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid. Sure, at the moment $600 dollars is looking like an awful lot to drop on a console -- but better graphics, improved controllers and PSP/PS3 connectivity is worth the price, no?

Seriously though, the PS3 is looking pretty crappy so far (except for MGS4). Nevertheless there are many franchises I love that will be PS3 exclusive so some time in a very distant future I will get myself one.
BTW did anyone read that interview with id Soft's John Carmack? He said that the PS3 was indeed more powerful than the 360 but it wouldn't make a difference because the thing is so hard to program for.

Faith in what? That they'll remain industry leader for another generation? Is there anyone who actually wants that?
Not saying that it won't happen, because it will.

I honestly don't believe that there are enough idiots who are willing to spend $600 on a console. Just look what happened when the XBOX was released in Europe. The freaking thing costed 480 bucks (!!!!!!!) and the price was dropped to 300 in a blink.

Now why would you want Sony to fail and drop from the top of the gaming industry?
I can understand that the PS3 may not be your preferred console, and that you might be more inclined to purchase a Wii or XBox 360. But why all the hate? If you don't want to pay $600, then don't. Appreciate all the healthy competition between the consoles and play what you like.

One correction real quick... no price for Wii has been announced. Sure, it's expected to be $199.99, but I could see it going from anywhere between $149.99 to $249.99.
And you've also got to take into consideration the cost of owning each machine... PS3 and 360 demand to be played on HD sets to get the most from the hardware inside, and their games are pretty expensive.
Honestly though, I'll be buying a new TV for Wii. I want a widescreen that can run the games in progressive scan.
Ah, but this is dirty scummy competition that basicaly comes down to "mine's bigger then yours! lolz!"
It's stupid, really. It should be all about the *games*, instead of companies focusing so much on stupid hardware specs, useless features, and a possibly crappy control system.
Oh, and Playstation isn't home to Grand Theft Auto anymore. Hate to break it to ya, but 360 is gettng 4 the day it comes out, and PC's have had GTA for some time now (hell, I can get 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for around 10 bucks each for PC, and I bet they'd run smoother then on PS2). Of course, PS3 will still get the GTA series, but it's not exclusive anymore.
Hideo Kojima, the guy behind Metal Gear Solid, is in love with Wii... should be apparent from him wanting Snake in the new Smash Bros.

I think Nintnedo is trying to imply that the price is $199 so that Microsoft won't drop their price this Christmas, and then Nintendo can launch at something more along the price of $175 or something.

Why, thanks for "breaking it to me," Gwgtrunks. Fascinating, really.
In any event, I just thought I'd throw in a minor detail here; while the $600 price tag will in all probability alienate more than a few gamers from purchasing Sony's brand-new console, six hundred bananas is actually an incredible bargain considering the PlayStation 3's specs. Downloadable games and features (from a free online service), greater EyeToy compatibility, PSP/PS3 connectivity, incredible graphics, a highly advanced "Cell" processor, a top-of-the-line Blu-Ray disc player, and -- let's not forget -- great games.
$600 bucks a pop? Expensive, yes, but not so much when you consider that a stand-alone Blu-Ray player will put you back about $1,000.

I wasn't going to respond again to this thread... but now I have this need to seeing as I was directly pointed out in your response.
Specs don't make a machine, it's the developers that do. Good specs don't make good games. The PS3 and 360, while very impressive peices of technology, don't allow for much more to be done with game design then we've been seeing for the past TEN years.
Eye Toy is more gimmicky then anything Nintendo has ever made. There. I said it. It's true, it really is. My webcam, of six years, can run the same games Eye Toy can... again, six years ago.
Free online service was done last year by Nintendo. Sure, while not the best, it's free, it works, and developers have the freedom to do whatever they want with it. They can even charge if they feel like it.
Graphics are nice, but they're going to loose their 'wow' within a year. Next, plzkthx.
Now, how can Sony afford to give you a 'top of the line' blu-ray player in a PS3 when their top of the line supposedly sells for around $1,000? They can't. It's going to be just like the DVD playback in PS2, crap. Yeah, it'll play. Yeah, it'll have standard features. But is it going to work well? Hell no. You're also assuming that Blu-ray's going to become the standard for movies.
Back to the PS3 and development... that aweosme Cell processor actually makes it even HARDER to make games for. PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube were already hard machines to program, and apparently develoment costs are rising by tens of MILLIONS because system makers feel the need to have everything higher then it needs. You're never going to see anyone take full advantage of the PS3 hardware just because of the sheer difficulty of even getting stuff to *run* on the damn thing.
And you surely mean great *game* right? Metal Gear Solid 4 is about the only thing I see people really wanting that's exclusive to PS3. Final Fantasy'll make it's way over to 360 eventually, I'm sure and everything else is a multi platform game. Whooh.
This covers all the points I feel I needed to make about PS3. Now, I'm not going to come back into this thread and post, unless I'm attacked again. K, thx, bye.

No, it isn't a bargin. It's far from a bargin. Downloadable games and features is available on ALL platformers. I don't know where you heard it would be free, either. EyeToy is a worthless gimmick. PSP/PS3 connectivity is another cheese gimmick that'll be used even less than the GBA/GCN connectivity was used. The graphics aren't going to be that much better than 360's, if developers even want to go through all the difficulty of making a third-party game better on the PS3, which I doubt they will. I don't even see why you brought up the cell processor, as that fits in with the graphics, and whoopie for Blu-Ray, IF it catches on. As for games...well name one that people are excited for beyond MGS and FF. Two series I have a good feeling will be getting their fair share of attention on other consoles. Yeah...

I've already stated all of my opinions, and you've stated all of yours. I doubt that anything I say will make you change your mind, seeing as how our opinions are basically exact opposites when it comes to the PS3, e.g.:
I said the PS3 would have great games, you said it wouldn't.
I applauded the PS3 for including PSP and EyeToy support -- but you said they'd be nothing more than gimmicks.
I said the PS3 graphics would be kick-*ss, you said they wouldn't be a lot better than the 360's.
I mentioned Blu-Ray technology and the fact that the PS3 will support the format (all the games will ship on Blu-Ray discs, I've heard) -- you said 'whoopie.' :)

Initially I wasn't particularly thrilled about the Nintendo Wii (took a little while to get over the name, quite frankly) and its newfangled controller (looked a little awkward to me), but from what I'm hearing over the Internet and seeing on G4's live coverage of E3, I'm getting more and more excited for Nintendo's latest endeavor. The low price point is just sweetening the deal.
One particular aspect of the Wii I'm not excited about, however, is the game download service -- coming from a guy who's spent countless hours rummaging through dingy pawn shops and flea markets for old carts, there's nothing quite like powering up your dusty old NES and playing a few hours of Battletoads on the classic system. I have an inkling that playing old games on the Wii just won't be the same...I could be wrong about that, though. ;)
I currently own both a PS2 and PSP, and I can say that I enjoy both. The PS2's given me five years of wonderful gaming, and I can't really say that I've missed out on any great gaming experiences. Nothing exclusive to the X-Box or Gamecube has ever really begged my attention. As for the PSP, I really should get a bigger memory stick so I could lug around some more tunes...Other than that, I'm happy as a clam.

I'm sorry, but...no. I mean...just...no. At first I was taking your comments about the PS3 as someone who liked all games, but wanted a PS3 the most. Now I see the true colours. To say that the Xbox and Gamecube had no great gaming experiences is ridiculous. That, along with the fact that you think the PSP is a good handheld, and that you get your gaming news from G4, paints a really really bad picture.

I guess the 3D chip the PS3 is using is worth around 500 alone...er, so I guess thats one of the reason of why its so high.
I'm not a big fan of Sony, but I tend to like more of the games that are for the system, I would get a Nintendo system if it had games that caught my attention, but Xbox....eh I wont start (Manly because I just dont like microsoft, but thats me)

Yikes, targeting my personal tastes and opinions. Hmm, that seems to be the theme of the day, no? Anyway, I didn't mean to say that there were no good games or gameplay experiences on those two consoles...I do realise now that that's how it came out. For those who take that sort of thing seriously, I apologize.
Yes, I owned a PS2 and was never really inclined to own either a Gamecube or X-Box. Sure they had great games, but I've never felt as though I've missed out on a whole lot. 'Never put much thought into it, really. Does that make me a bad person? Am I not a part of our collective society anymore because I didn't shell out the money for three consoles? Am I going to be shunned by my friends now, seeing as how I've painted for myself a "really, really bad picture"? I happen to be a very satisfied consumer when it comes to my PS2, and I've never had any problems with it or the games it plays.
I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Sony fanboy, but if that's the way you want to construe it, then go right ahead. I've owned a NES, a GameGear, an N64 and a PS2, and I've enjoyed games on all sorts of other consoles (Genesis, SNES, PlayStation, Gamecube, etc.) Just because I was very satisfied with Sony's previous console and find myself a bit partial to the PS3, does that make me a hypocrite?
And yeah, I happen to like the PSP. And I like it for the same reason I like the PS2 -- all sorts of varied gaming experiences, plus a whole lot of other functionality. And yes, I do occasionally watch G4. Lately I've seen their E3 coverage on the Nintendo Wii and I'm looking forward to it. Do you have a problem with that?
P.S. -- Thanks for all the inflammatory comments, by the way. I don't think I've dropped this much ink in a sole thread before...A couple more and I'll be able to write a book!

How the heck did this happen to my topic?! It was suppose to be about prices really.......:ohwell:
Sorry, man...We kind of went off on a tangent there. The bottom line when it comes to prices though, in my humble opinion?
PS3: Yes, the $600 price will hurt PS3 sales, at least initially. I'm unsure as to what long-term effect it will have on the console, though I'm reasonably optimistic, especially considering the fact that the price is likely to drop in due time. But just like fans got over the funky-sounding name of Nintendo's new console, they'll get over the price of the PS3. Or buy the basic version, naturally.
Wii: Nintendo's in the best position price-wise. They have yet to announce an official price point, but they've gone on record as saying that the Wii will be the cheapest of the consoles when it launches, and I tend to believe them. The low price point, the new controller, and the new gameplay experiences will likely lead to booming Nintendo sales come Christmas. Wether or not it will truly revolutionize the industry as we know it and bring gaming to the masses, we'll have to wait and see for ourselves.
X-Box 360: Uhh, not a whole lot to say about the X-box 360, really. It's already out, those who wanted it have bought it, and those who've waited for the other heavyweights to make their appearances will now have to make a decision.
You know where my loyalty lies.
You gotta be kidding. People will get over buying a console for $600? I don't know anyone who would drop that amount of money for a console that isn't even much better power-wise than the 360. The only purpose in me buying a PS3 is for MGS4 and the Final Fantasy series. But even that doesn't justify the money spent on it. The features of the PS3 aren't even all that appealing. Their online system copied off Xbox Live, the HDTV thing isn't even worth it since the graphics will be the same as 360, anyway, and it's just...not worth the money!

Firstly, never said anything inflammatory towards you. I never insulted you once. I never plan on sinking to that kind of childish level. I'm sorry if you take what I say in that way. I just don't take the time to sugar coat all my sentences to make them sound nice. You must understand, I don't mean any of this in a hostle way.
Being that it seems like you're so far disconnected from the videogame community, I'll catch you up a little.
Sony no longer has a fanbase. The community has done a complete 180. The two biggest Sony fanboy bases on the internet, Gamespot and GameFAQS, have totally switched sides. The polls conducted on these sites would normally run heavily in favour of Sony, no matter what the question. Now Sony has fallen behind Microsoft and has fallen a LONG way from Nintendo.
No, no one is going to "get over" the $600 price tag. That isn't some kind of opinionated obstacle. "I don't know. Wii is a stupid name. Oh well. I guess I'll buy it." is a lot different from "I don't know. $600 is a lot of money. I can't afford it. Oh well. I guess I'll go without food for a month to get one!".
As for the cheaper version, it was proved with the 360 that the "cheaper" version of the console is worthless. Anyone who ended up buying a core 360 had to buy stuff to upgrade it to a premium, anyways, just so they could play games properly! The same will happen with the PS3. It's been stated everywhere.
I really don't know what else to say. Um..the PSP does suck. I own one, and with the exception of 2 or 3 good games, the rest of the line-up, past and present, is little more than a joke. Especially compared to the line-up of AAA games for the DS. It works alright as an MP3 player, but I own a much smaller, much better MP3 player for that. The PSP, at the moment, is a dust collector.

Since this is all about prices, just for the hell of it, lets do some math here, hm? I'm going to add up how much it costs to buy a new system, with a TV and two games. For this, we'll use Wii's rumored $199.99 price tag. This is all going to be done in USD, because it's just a stupid argument on the internet that no one really cares about. And incase you're wondering, here's the TV set (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7706529&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat31800050030&id=1138085816138) I'll be using.

Game 2: 69.99
TV 1599.99
Controller 1: 39.99
Controller 2: 39.99

I personally am done buying new consoles-- but I can't even imagine spending 600 bucks on a new system. 200 was my limit even back when I was totally obsessed with games.
$600 is a lot of money-- some people get really bad cars for that amount. And I can see where Sony is coming from-- gamers in this day and age are adults for the most part and have their own money and a good idea of what they want to do with it. I personally wouldn't spend $600 on a video game console but I realize there are some who would. They'd really better have some great exclusive games and features for that price, though.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see wether or not the high price of the PS3 will substantially effect sales of the console. Myself and most of my friends are most excited about the PlayStation 3, as opposed to the other consoles, because we like the brand and find that Sony has the largest collection of games that we enjoy. In the long run, however, I don't think the high price of the system will dramatically effect Sony's position as leader in the videogame industry.
Though stranger things have happened, I admit.

Here's the thing you're not seeing. The Playstation 2 was built on the casual gamer market last generation. Look at it this way.
Last Generation
John Q. Public walks into a Wal-Mart. He sees a PS2 and an Xbox. "Hey! I love Madden! Hmmm. Which console should I get though? Both will play the huge selling games, but PS2 is cheaper. Xbox has better graphics, but $100 is a lot of extra cash to save. I'll go with the PS2!"
This Generation
John Q. Public walks into a Wal-Mart. He sees a PS3 and an Xbox 360. "Hey! I love Madden! Hmmm. Which console should I get though? Both will play the huge selling games, but Xbox 360 is cheaper. PS3 has better graphics, but $200 is a lot of extra cash to save. I'll go with the Xbox 360!"
Do you see what I'm saying? Now let's take a look at the top 10 selling PS2 games of all time.
#1 Gran Turismo 3 (14.36 million)
#2 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (13.58 million)
#3 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (13.47 million)
#4 Grand Theft Auto III (11.39 million)
#5 Final Fantasy X (7.75 million)
#6 Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (7 million)
#7 Need for Speed Underground (6.47 million)
#8 Gran Turismo 4 (6.25 million)
#9 Medal of Honor: Frontline (5.87 million)
#10 Need for Speed Underground 2 (5.47 million)
Now, let's pick out how many of these are exclusive first party titles! We have Gran Turismo...and...Gran Turismo. Now, third party exclusives! MGS and FF. Let's pull out those 3 top selling GTA games from Sony's big line-up, as they'll be out on Xbox 360 at the same time now. Then we'll take out NFS and MoH, as any further additions to those series will be on Xbox 360 without a doubt. We're left with Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid. All heavy hitters to be sure. Square has FF games coming out for all the consoles, so the Playstation is no longer the only source for FF fanboys. Kojima is done with MGS after this last game. That kills off Sony's second franchise.
Do you honestly believe, that PS3, at such a high price, with it's big franchises no longer being exclusive, is going to do just as well as the PS2? Are they going to rely on their first or second party developers? We would have to drop all the way down to 30th place in the best selling list to even find a first or second party Sony title.
Here's my point. The Xbox 360 has taken the place of the PS2 in this generation. It got a head start, it's cheaper, and it's going to have a steady supply of good third party, and first party games. The Sony fanboys may breath a lot more life into the PS3 than any sane person should even want to, but things just keep piling up against Sony. They're the ones going to have to fight the uphill battle this generation.
Of course, I could be terribly wrong. The PS3 could come out and every person with a wad of cash could toss it all over it at launch to play such sizzling titles as...well whatever manages to make it out at launch. Maybe that racing game where their big feature is tracks in the mud.
I have to say that post is beautiful. I have tears.
But what all he says is true. PS3 is going to be fighting uphill this time. There' just not enough justification to buying a console so expensive only to play games that will probably come out on a cheaper console, anyway.

That's pretty freaking lame that most of the best sellers on PS2 are thug games and racing games. What the heck? I know it's true, I'm just suprised people are sooo into those kind of games. Nothing feels more repetitive than racing a car over and over again.

Final Fantasy has been popping up on MS and Ninty console left and right lately. My statement is this...when Konami eventually ports MGS4 to Xbox 360 due to poor sales from limited install base (Sony's already loosing GTA) and when FF gets ported over, then Sony is fu*ked, and that's it. Otherwise, listen to Peanut. The man knows what he is saying, and I couldn't have put it any better.

My goodness, are we still battling over the same damn issue here? I've stated my opinion about ten times already, and quite frankly I'm getting tired of repeating it. Come to think of it, I'm getting tired of this particular thread as a whole. Sure, it was interesting when the arguments were fresh and valid, but it's just getting ridiculous now. And I'm sure you put a lot of time and thought into your latest post, Peanut, but I'm afraid I'm just not going to waste my time with it. Can't we just agree to disagree, and leave it at that?
My goodness...All this time and effort spent on stating two very different opinions that obviously aren't going to change any time soon. The worst thing is, you seem to think that your opinion is the correct one and that I'm somehow not seeing the whole picture or that I haven't put enough thought into my argument. It's my OPINION. Y'know, like the title of the thread suggests? Messageboards are all about stating your opinions, dude. Maybe you should lighten up and try to accept that.
Do you honestly believe, that PS3, at such a high price, with it's big franchises no longer being exclusive, is going to do just as well as the PS2?
Yes, I do. Dagnabbit, you seem to have a hard time accepting that. The PS3 is shaping up to be a fantastic system, and not only are existing franchises going to do well, we can look forward to plenty of great, new games (like Resistance: Fall of Man) and the creation of whole new franchises to carry us into this next generation. Franchises come and go, dude. Incidentally, I'm not saying that the other two systems are inferior machines, or that they won't do well, I'm just saying that the PS3 is going to be a great machine and that it'll have plenty of fans come Christmas.
I really don't know what else to say. Um..the PSP does suck.
I like the PSP. Again, a case of opinion. Why waste time counting off the PSP's strong points when you'll simply say the exact opposite and ask me to respond? Music, videos, games, Internet. All in one machine. And for the right price. But that's really irrelevant; I like it, I bought it, and I enjoy it. You don't like the games? Boo-hoo. I've got plenty of games for the system that I enjoy and I've logged a sh*tload of playtime on the little thing. GTA: LCS, NFL Street, Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX, Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play, Wipeout Pure, King Kong, Madden, and others. And please, don't take this as an invitation to count these off one by one and state why they aren't good games. Quite frankly, I don't want to hear it. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but don't try to pass it off as if it were the absolute, irrevocable truth.
As for the cheaper version, it was proved with the 360 that the "cheaper" version of the console is worthless. The same will happen with the PS3. It's been stated everywhere.
Again, using your infinite wisdom, you've managed to prove to the rest of the world without a shadow of a doubt that no one will want to buy the "core" version of a system because, quote, it's "worthless." Wow, ain't that a convincing argument? And how do you back that up? "It's been stated everywhere." Hmm, very nice. I'm intrigued by your particular school of thought, Peanut.

To be honest the last console my family got was the PS1...and that was late in the game. We never bought many games, mostly racers and game shows, ala Weakest Link, Millionare, and Jeopardy!. 3D worlds get to me. I tend to get lost easily. But if I was still a gamer, and I was looking into the 3 newest systems, the Wii would be my first choice, since Nintendo's never done me wrong, it's the least expencive, and will play old Nintendo titles via download (am I right...tell me I'm not just having smoke blown up my kilt). If I can play multiple different Mario Karts on one console....sign me up!

NO! You're wrong! I'm pretty much the most vocal about this kind of stuff in here, and I was one of the most excited for the Sony conference prior to E3. Just ask Ai Takahashi. Him and I were waiting in anticipation, like Japanese school girls at a J-Pop concert, for the Sony conference and unveiling of the PS3's true power. Not only were we let down, but then we had our intelligence as gamers insulted by the complete bullcrap Sony tried to pull. A ridiculous price tag, and a blatant attempt at ripping off the Wii.
Most of us, to whom game playing isn't just some silly hobby, take a great offense to that kind of sh*t.
If I were so hateful towards Sony and the Playstation, would I own a PSX, PS2, and PSP? Would I have over a dozen games for both PSX and PS2 and about half a dozen for PSP? I'm sorry if you take what I say in that way. I just don't take the time to sugar coat all my sentences to make them sound nice. You must understand, I don't mean any of this in a hostle way.
Without trying to stir up even more bad tempers, though, I now know where you stand on the issue...But can you at least see how I kinda got the impression that you disliked Sony?
That, along with the fact that you think the PSP is a good handheld, and that you get your gaming news from G4, paints a really really bad picture.
I love games, but Sony's being abusive. They're so overly cocky that they think they can charge whatever they want, and the idiots will eat it up.
I really don't know what else to say. Um..the PSP does suck.
The Sony fanboys may breath a lot more life into the PS3 than any sane person should even want to, but things just keep piling up against Sony.
As much as I hate Sony, I'd probably still buy the PS3 at some point down the road, but until it drops about...$400 I'm not touching it.

Playstation has rooted its self in the head of the "casual gamer" as the "best" console, and we all know the saying about stupid people in large groups. The cool guy down the street loves his Playstation because it plays Madden. The anime loving dork in his basement loves it because it plays all his fruity FF games and Japanese RPG's.
I'm not saying I like Sony or the Playstation, but I just don't see the complete domination they had last generation being completely lost as some people think.
Sony is the one pushing this BIG TIME. Just read up on all the BD bullcrap they're trying to pull.
I seriously don't think there are enough retarded people in the world to drop that kind of cash. Even if there are enough people who would, there certainly aren't enough people who can.
Apparently the $499 PS3 is a worthless piece of trash. Even worse than the difference between the Core and Premium Xbox 360's.
So you don't appreciate me saying that you hate Sony? As I best as I can recall, on numerous occasions you stated that you disliked the company and sometimes you even seemed afraid to admit you could even possibly like Sony, seeing as how every other gamer on here would probably tear you to shreds.
Why do you constantly keep playing the 'hater' card to justify your nonexistant arguments? Do you actually have a point? If you're willing to spend $600 on a gaming console, good for you, but don't be surprised if other people aren't. It's an assload of money and you know it, stop hiding behind petty insults. I'm not surprised other people aren't willing to spend $600. It's a lot of money, I know. I've said that before, mind you. Seeing as how your memory has seemingly recently fallen short on what was and wasn't said, I'll refresh it for you, no extra charge...Upon seeing the posts in this thread, it simply struck me as how a lot of people were obviously not very fond of the company or the pricetag, so I decided to stick up for the console and number off its good points.
As best as I can recall, that's when numerous other members jumped in to dissect my comments and state how I was wrong, how the PS3 was indeed "crap" and that the PSP was also "crap." I'm not trying to blame others for this whole thing, 'cuz it obviously takes two to argue. But my goodness, accusing me of hiding behind petty insults! I'm not trying to insult anyone, Mecha Cow -- I'm the one who was defending what I thought would be a good console. I also said we should have faith in Sony; they'll deliver on their promises. If I had come on here solely to bash other consoles, then I could comprehend your reasoning...
As far as I can tell, I've tried to be polite in my posts and have apologized numerous times (to numerous people) because of my comments. (Apparently they were offended by the fact I thought the PS3 was a good machine. Go figure.) A few times I even tried getting back on topic and wasn't intending on creating a whole fuss -- I mean, sure, my last few posts were admittedly a bit raunchy. But this backlash is ridiculous.

I don't even want to know what kinda fight is going on here, I read the last few posts and I'll just stay out of this one.
If what Backworm posted is accurate I already own a Wii*I've come to terms with the name and it's faster to type then Revolution*, in a manner of speaking. The games are cheaper and the system is a good price. As for the 360 I might get one if more then the current amount of games I want that intrest me come out. But what happens with Xbox is the games I want usually come out on another system I have or PC, which I prefere RPGs on PC.
As for PS3, I am a DMC nerd and I need my DMC fix. I doubt 4 is going to suck so I'll have to play it. But I won't be first in line drooling over it like the others I guess. I refuse to spend that much on a system and a game. 660 plus tax is way to much for me. Thats around 60 tax here in Cali. I'll wait for second hand gear. DMC 4 won't go away and the PS3 will drop eventually. I don't need a new game system right at this moment as it is. But once I get a Wii I won't really need anything else cause it already has enough games on it to keep my gaming hunger at bay.
I like multiplayer and the PS systems lack that. They seem more focused on Single player aspects of gaming. And I grow tired of that. Wii and 360 have more multiplayer games.
On that note, little off topic, but may I ask. Does the PS3 have 4 ports or just two? Controller ports I mean. I don't remember it having 4 in the picture I saw but it doesn't hurt to ask.

"Yeah well how often do games fill up an entire disk? And what does that matter if the system itself sucks?" Me
"Cause uhh it has Metal Gear 4"
"Wow one game, woot? It'll probly end up on Wii too"
"No, not uh it's exclusive"
"Like MGS 2 was too right?"
My friend can be prety annoying about games. He thinks all systems are gay but his PS2 and his PC.

They simply changed the $ sign to a €? Shocking.
They also said they were considering not releasing the 20GB package in Europe, and that 'people would still buy it even if it had no launch games'.

I wasn't even talking about disc capacity or anything. Everyone is all about "Oh. It will play blu-ray movies! Stand alone blu-ray players are over $900 anyways!"
Well good job to those people, I hope they plan on going out and spending another couple grand on an HDTV that supports HDMI. Very few people own an HDTV as it is, even fewer own ones with an HDMI input. Without that, the blu-ray movies won't look any better than a normal DVD on a normal TV. In fact, there's a lot of talk going around about blu-ray movies not working on anything but HDMI, because Sony has a big fear about piracy. That limits the usage of the blu-ray player to about 10% of potential PS3 owners.

In the UK, this thing is gonna cost about $100 more than the US after conversion. I think it was something like 425 pounds. at least I think that's what Gamespot said.

I don't understand why anyone would be surprised about this, the $ prices always directly translate into € prices (for example the DS costed €150 when it was released). This continent is goddamn expensive.

I don't think taxes are included in American prices though. Besides, Euro bills look way better than dollars, so it's natural people want more of them!

That's true, of course but aren't American prices still lower?
I think us Europeans are gonna get screwed over a little bit even with taxes added to the US price, but I think average wage would play a part too so it might not be as bad as it seems:-?

Bah...Euro bills are really awkward to handle. Who the heck ever heard of having different sizes for all the bills? :ohwell:

You must realize that the majority of people with the income to buy a PS3 have families. It's not so easy to just go and drop $1,000 on something like that.

$600 for a PS3 console? Cripes...if I bought the whole console I'd have to stare at it for two weeks untill I could get a game!
seriously...I love all consoles and all have a few games that perk my intrest, but I seriously doubt I'll be getting a PS3 unless the price drops to half that...or someone buys me *looks for a sucker*
X-box 360 has a few games that I'm intrested in, but I'm kinda waiting to see what else will come out before I think of purchasing one. Oblivion is just one of the games I've seen that perks my intrest so far. price is a bit steep yet (IMO, I'm not rich you know :P )
As for...the....wii. No offense, but...what the hell kinda name IS that anyway? heh..I thought it was going to be the Revoloution or something like that. *shrugs* Anyways....the price seems more than fair and so far this may be the only "New" console I get...tho I'm a little (just a little mind you) driven off by the new controller thingy. Seems a bit awkward...I'm sure it's something I could get used to tho.
So there...That's what a wolf thinks. :D :P

Lol, you're right on that, but I meant conversion rate wise, not other factors:)
Does anyone know where I can get a PAL copy of MGS:Twin Snakes for cheap? I've got €25 to spend, but I could go a little bit over that.

 The Queen herself wouldn't pay for that! No matter how much she loves "throwin' down" some MGS or GTA.

Yeah, and a year ago, people were placing bets on how long Nintendo would last before "pulling a Sega". Sony is already backpeadeling from the HDMI thing as hard as they can.
Let's place bets on Sony now.

Well I'm getting a 360 and rumor has it DMC 4 might just hit the 360 since it was a no show at E3. And I can only hope that rumor is true. If it is then I only need to buy a 360 for every game I want to play. Since the creator of MGS said he wants to put ZOE 3 on Xbox. I dont care about MGS anymore. So all the games I want are on 360 and all the games I could want are on Wii.
Stormy told me to put this up for y'all, though I'm sure it's already been seen.
