I can not express in words how sick this guy makes me. No one commits violent crimes unless they're a hitman or play video games? I wish someone would hurry up and commit some "GTA inspired" crime on him. Just sickening. My "I Hate Jack Thompson" t-shirt is in the f*cking mail. Jesus.

This guy is a retard, let's all just ignore him and hope he goes away. He doesn't deserve our attention.

*E* Talking about Thompson obviously, not you Peanut.

My serious opinion on this guy? I'm totally bored. It was funny in the beginning but now it's just lame.

He is entitled to it, but he's trying to get the law to enforce his opinion and that's just plain fascism!

i wouldn't mind his opinion if he was at least informed about the topic he has an opinion about.

but because he's seen a handful of violent games, he's labled the entire industry as trash that makes kids go insane and kill people.

here's a question for anyone thinking "oh, hey... maybe he's right?"... where are the kids parents? hm?

Parents should reserach what their kids are doing if they have a concern about it, instead of letting the talking heads tell him something's not good.

I seem to remember there was another guy that tried forcing his opinions on others.. what was his name? Oh yeah. Hitler.

Other Fun Jack Thompsonism's:

“In every school shooting, we find that kids who pull the trigger are video gamers,”

“If some wacked-out adult wants to spend his time playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, one has to wonder why he doesn’t get a life, but when it comes to kids, it has a demonstrable impact on their behavior and the development of the frontal lobes of their brain.”

“Murder simulators are not constitutionally protected speech. They’re not even speech. They’re dangerous physical appliances that teach a kid how to kill efficiently and to love it.”

He also claims that the PlayStation 2's DualShock controller "gives you a pleasurable buzz back into your hands with each kill. This is operant conditioning, behavior modification right out of B.F. Skinner's laboratory."

I don't think kids should play "M" rated games, but this guy sounds very strange. Video games don't make you kill people. Unless you are evil and/or crazy, playing a violent video game won't make you a go on a killing spree. In Japan they play the same games we do. They have lower crime than the USA too.

Why can't he understand that?

Yeah but they get their aggression out over there with all the OTHER random crap they do :-P

Example:

No matter how many games those guys play they will NEVER kill anyone. Ever.

It makes little difference where someone is from. In Canada we're exposed to the exact same content as Americans, yet there aren't as many crimes here either. It has nothing to do with videogames at all.

And no, kids shouldn't play "M" rated games. It just gives assholes like Thompson an excuse to blame publishers and gamers for being sick human beings. He never once has pointed the blame at the horrible parents these kids have, or at any other form of violent media.

He's just got a bug up his ass about games. He probably lost at Pong as a kid and grew up hating videogames.

The XBox 360 has family settings. So this should keep kids from seeing cgi blood spray.:D Really though, like you said, the parents should have control over what kids play.

What will Jack's next comment be? Maybe something like this:

"Super Mario is horrible and violent. What kind of message does this give our community? That if someone get in your way it's ok to jump on them, causing them to die? Also, Donkey Kong reprsents animal cruelty at it's worst. Lizards should never have barrels thrown at them. No matter what they do. As for Link from the Legend of Zelda, he is a violent, gender confussed boy in a skirt.":D

Check out his wikipedia entry. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Thompson_%28attorney%29)

And this penny arcade strip. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2005/10/14)

And this article explaining it. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/2005/10/14)

I did have a whole bunch of quotes followed by my own counterpoints, but really I think these things speak for themselves.

Guy's a fascist assclown. Nuff Said!

That's it. I'm writing an editorial on this.

However, it is ture that the millitary does use FPS to help soldiers overcome part of the fear of killing someone. Still, like I said before, unless a person is screwed up, video games don't make you kill. I think Jack needs to focus his time on things that happen in the real world, not the virtual one.

Jack probably thinks PlayStation's tag line "Live in your world, Play in ours" reads "Live in your world, Kill in ours":D

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer," Thompson told the paper.

That, my friends, is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Seriously, the technogical witch hunt is getting pretty old. Then again, we live in a democracy that guarantees freedom of speech -- but I wish this guy would shut up, all the same. :ohwell:

GamePro Magazine said it best way back in 1998: "Most violence stems from genuine physical and psychological abuse, not from polygons. The more video games are targeted as culprits, the longer American society will spend in denial. However, when policymakers begin taking real measures to deal with psychotic violence -- like providing education in schools concerning the reality and danger of abuse -- then they'll begin to get a handle on it."
