Now here's a surprise. Honestly.

When I first saw the comic book, I expected some parody on Jesus going Buffy and all that and giving me some smiles. But after the first pages I realized that someone's trying to sell us an actual story with a good plot and good art.

You know all the Jihad and Wars in the name of Christ and all that going on these days? Hard to miss it, eh? Well, the crap finally hit the fan and the Christians decided to cleanse the earth by chucking nukes at pretty much everyone. So people weren't a big issue anymore and New Vatican City was built. But peace was fragile, because the Vampires, lurking in the shadows of mankind for aeons, finally decided that it was their turn to rule. So New Vatican city's under attack quite often. And people on the inside are getting desperate, they need someone to lead them, to tell them what to do, to give them hope. Luckily, Jesus reappeared around them and led the forces into battle against the vampires and brought home victory after victory.

All was fine, until the Archangels (soldiers) of New Vatican City captured a pureblood vampire who knows a lot more than anyone would expect, she even knows Jesus's secret. Also, Jesus kills a human woman in self defense which tosses him into a crisis of faith...

Okay, so Jesus fights vapires with a sword and kicks a tremendous amout of ass. The whole issue is very well written and the art's really good too. So if you're looking for an entertaining comic book with a big twist, then pick up this comic, published by Image.

If you've read this book or have questions or additions to the controversy (which obviously had to appear sooner or later), feel free to post them here. Where I can, I'll be happy to help out and participate in a debate everyone can enjoy, if necessary.

Jesus isn't anorexic in the comic book either. Infact, nobody ever mentions Jesus having an eating disorder. Actually, nobody ever mentions Jesus eating anything. And food isn't even the subject of the comic book.

Please, be so kind to read the comic book before you go "sick mind" on people.

Anarky's review reminded me of Reading Rainbow. All that was missing was him saying, "But don't take my word for it," followed by the synthesized, "Da-deh-DEH!"

Anyhoo, this is great. You wanna talk about pushing the envelope, well this may be it. Not only do they use the current Jihad and other religious implications, but they toss Jesus in the mix, and put some battle armor on him, to boot.

I gotta check this out.

God bless Image.

I'm not even a little religious, and I totally have no feelings and no morals, but even I find it offensive!

 Perfect.

Okay, I'm not quite sure what to think because stuff like this dosen't come along often in our moralistic "old timey values" society, but I'm sure as hell going to read it. It looks too interesting.

And once again, I bet you haven't read the issue. Because if you did, you wouldn't go "offensive". I mean, one of the world's top principles should be "Never mess with religion" and this comic book doesn't, despite having a strong religious undertone.

If I could see a religious debate starting in here, I wouldnt even have opened the thread. Everybody who goes zealot in here obviously hasn't read the comic book and isn't in the position to make a qualified statement concerning the religious subjects in the book.

wow Anarky thanks so much for the heads up on this makes me wish I had a few dollars right now to buy it!!
The art work is beautifull!! I think that cover of jesus has got to be one of the best drawings I've ever seen and I don't know what anyones talking about jesus being to skinny I've seen actual paintings of jesus hanging on the cross where he looks allot less healthy than that.
Some people just let blind faith ruin things that could be really good.
Like when you say oh my god they should be happy that you are calling out to care when you are suprised or scared.
And like this book it's about jesus as an actual person trying to save people.
Shesh there is just no pleasing some people.
I've gotta get this book I so hope I find it at the comicon in sandiago.

Jesus is a figure of pop culture as much as one of religion these days. Some people might not like it, but that's how it is. I doubt this was intended to be offensive or controversial at all.

He has bite marks in his neck on that cover. Is he a vampire too?

I am a VERY religious person, and it didnt offend me to much. there was some stuff that made me cringe, but over all it was an interesting read. I dont know if I could ever show it to my parents though.
