I finally caved In

Ad you may or may not know I am an original TMNT fan until my dying days. I grew up with the show and it's merchandising onslaught and their will never be another show that will have the the same impact TMNT (1987) had on me.

Therfore I was quite reluctant to watch the new show. I kicked around the idea a few times, downloaded a few eps but never got to watching. Yesterday I was finally bored enough to take a peek at the New TMNT. I started with the first episode of the series and all I can say is WOW. This show, contrary to my prior thoughts, actually was pretty damn good. I thought it was gonna be a terrible rehash of my childhood memories, but I actually enjoyed the mix of humor and action. The character's attitudes stayed pretty much the same, and the anamation was something new.

So the purpose of this thread was to help give some other old TMNT fans the incentive to take a look at the new show. You could like it, I sure did.

It will never be the same as the original TMNT, but instead of comparing it to our favorite, we can just enjoy it for what it is, another reincarnation of our favorite turtles.

Actually, the old toon was a rehash of the original, since the comic came first.

But sure, I get what yer sayin'. Let's just not make this into a 'which one is better' thread. Bashing is not allowed.

Glad ya gave it a shot man. I like both shows for different reasons. The old one for comdey and goofyness and the new one for a more serious TMNT with story arcs and such.

Their both great shows, glad you gave it a shot. If you liked the first episode wait till you get onto the later ones. It really only gets better.

Silent Fox, i was eager to watch the new tmnt as soon as it came on Fox Kids in Britain, and i have seen a few good episodes, maybe about 20 odd episodes, but they haven't showed us the later seasons. However, i have had some trouble trying to arouse the same enthusiasm during some episodes, and i always feel the original cartoon is possibly slightly better than it.

It's also to do with my dislike for recent cartoons or uninterest, as they look so sleek and trying to appeal more trendy. I don't know its just the feeling i get from cartoons these days. I really don't dig the background guitar music they use all the time, and prefer the original's music more. However i do like the use of Japanese style music they use for like Shredder's HQ.

Its also that i'm a big fan of the humor Krang, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady had. However, on my website i might very well do 2003 cartoon episode reviews once i have finished the original's(but after a long deserved break!) and also character profiles of the new characters as well. I would still like to see the episodes involving leatherhead and usagi, which would interest me.

I think if i review their episodes, i will get to love them more in the process. :)

Glad to see that you've gotten into the new series. Just be sure to keep watching, and check out season 4, it's the best yet.

Remakes like He-Man were also pretty good, nowhere near as good as the original, or even the New Adventures of He-Man, but still a faithful attempt at giving the franchise a modern boost. TMNT is no different, and whilst it's going down it's own path more and more, it's closely showing it's original merits as opposed to adaptation.

That seems to be the case with myself as well. I love the old TMNT for its fun atmosphere, while the new toon actually has some intriguing stories.
I'm on to the 4th ep now, they just keep getting better.

Good for you! I also discovered my first impressions were not quite accurate - that the new TMNT is actually a great show. And there are some truly great episodes/arcs to be watched along the way. :tgrin:

As much as I hate to admit it these days, my first encounter with the new TMNT series was also met with breif contempt. Thankfully, I tuned in later and quickly began to realise that this wasn't simply a rehash of the old 'toon or a poor attempt at financial gain -- here was a show that stayed true to the time-tested personalities of the Turtles, added new situations and characters, and even remained faithful to both the old show and, as I would later discover, the old comics. What's not to like about that?

Season four, moving on to fifth (really sixth, due to a ton of internal production problems, the real fifth season will only be available on DVD)

For the most part, the new series has been excellent and quite cosnsitent, the fourth season however does'nt have a real direction until the final episodes, and even then they made the mistake of ending the Karai arc way too early when it should have been built up longer. Donatello's much hyped "Mutation" was nothing more than a three week ordeal, and of course the Ninja Tribunal cliffhanger should have been kept until the Lost season was released on DVD.

Thougn mostly fragmented I did find the season 4 episodes to be well written and alot darker then previous episodes. And there are plenty of tie ins. Most of the episodes play off old stories. Like the Hun episodes, and anything with Bishop in it.
