I was wondering what everyones opinion on this short lived tmnt comic was. I only was able to pick up the special edition #1 issue( I actually think I got it free somewhere, but i cant remember) I really enjoyed the style, and it would have been really cool to still be getting mature tmnt comics in the new toons style. The art was really good, and I actually enjoyed the first issue. I'd pick up the other few they released, but I know it would only dissapoint me when i got to the cliffhanger:( SO what did you guys think of it?

I quit after two issues for a couple reasons.

*I didn't like LeSean's art-style, at least in regards to humans. He drew some sweet-lookin' turtles, but his humans were too goofy for my tastes.

*I felt reading comics retelling episodes of a TV series I already bought the DVDs of was a waste of time and money. I hear it gradually turned out some original material toward the end, but I didn't hang around that long. And from what I read of the original material, it sounded pretty lame.

I liked the art, it was a nice change from what I usually pick up.

But the stories where....well they sucked, they didnt go any where and where extremly boring.

It felt like the writer wasent trying at the begining, all he did was take episodes from the show and write them through a different perspective which was just boring.

The stories were downright awful. What a waste of a comic.

I have almost all the issues I disliked it for the following reasons

1. The first 2 issues don't even have TMNT in them, I read a TMNT comic for TMNT not some lame backstory on human characters. Hell the first issue is about the cop and the gangster from the first episode. What the hell is that? The whole 2nd issue is about April. OOOO really fun to read about.

2. The art was cool but after awhile it hardly holds itself with how bad everything else was.

3. The most misleading covers in the history of comic books. The first issue appears to promise us a nice TMNT, Foot rumble but instead we get this lame backstory crap.

4. After issue 4 we get orginial stories. Well they suck. They suck ass. I don't wanna read about how some gangster who mops April's floor gets in trouble with his homies and the TMNT save him.

5. Who ever wrote it towards the end seemed to want to turn the human focus of the story on African Americans, which is fine but it was so damned forced. Maybe that's why he went along to make that Boondocks show?

Anyways I havn't read the comics in awhile and I probly will never again so what I did say is based on memory. I might not be 100% accurate but I don't even want to look at those comics right now so I don't feel like checking.

I never really care much for the Dreamwave TMNT Comics, I mainly just collect them just for the art.

LeSean is a pretty kool dude, i got to meet him 2 years ago, at the time he was a little bummed they cancelled it, it seemed. He seemed to enjoy working on it though.

The only thing i really hate though is that they cut it so short. the T4 issue sounded and looked like it would have been nice, i got to see a few of his drawings from the issue and trust me, it woulda been a good issue probably.

I too was a little disappointed in the first 4 episodes, but then 5-7 i liked a little. I seen them as kinda like Tales, but instead for the cartoon, since he drew them in that style.

Actually he'll be doing a front piece for the series. This info comes from a friend of mine who knows Lesean on a personal level.

As for Lesean illustrating a whole issue, that would be sweet. What would be even more sweet is if I were doing it. LOL!!

i liked the series. i guess i'm in the minority, but thought the way the issues based on episodes were handled was very cool. rather than just directly retelling the episode, you got a different perspective on the story.

i actually liked them better than the original story issues.

I'm sure Superstar LeSean has plenty of time to work on an issue of TMNT, though he might have difficulty working it into his schedule, what with the mega blockbuster success that was Cannon Busters taking up so much of his time...

I tell you guys this much about the Dreamwave Comic. The sales plummeted after issue 4. When Dreamwave first got the licence to do the TMNT comic in 2003. There intentions where to do the oldschool Turtles from the 80's. Unforniatly that wasn't the case. 4 kids wanted Dreamwave to stay with in the realms of the cartoon. So you can say they where doomed from the very start. Pat Lee was having to do a comic based after the cartoon. And for that it shot them in the foot. It wasnt till the sales where really down on the book till they where given the permission to do origanl stories to reflect the cartoon. (still restricted to cartoon concitinuity) Peter David was forced to change direction to the book almost ammediatly. From issues 5 to 7 the quality of the stories suffered for it. They where very rushed. you can simply tell that by reading them. by then it was too late. the books sales where so far lagging that they where barely worth the paper they where printed on. There had been several attempts to save the run. Even Lesean offering his skills to continue the series for free, And there was talk about pulling Pat lee onto the book from issues 12 to 15. to boost the sales. but agian it was too late. The series was poorly handled since day Dreamwave got the property. So now one is to blame. Peter David is a awsome writer, but he was just doing what he was told to do. Lesean .I don't think could have handled another cancelled book on his track record, with previous cancellations form Arcania,Buzuka Jules and his own book Cannonbusters . so he did what he could to keep it going. Pat Lee well he had a product to sell, and a whole lot of big heads to deal with. So who's to blame. 4 Kids for rescrticting them. Mirage I sure would have backed the the hole way.:dead:

LeSean Thomas is like the Ben Affleck of the comic book world; everything he touches seems doomed to failure.

Well, except Udon's Street Fighter comic, but he only drew a tiny back-up story, luckily.

David did his best with some pretty bad episode restrictions, and his TMNT interaction is the best I've read. The human focus was an interesting idea, and I thought the first issue was a more mature take on the first episode of the 2003 series and the Casey Jones episode from his perspective wasn’t actually such a bad idea. I just think it could have been saved for a later time but I doubt he had much confidence in the book lasting at all. The art was so bad, I'm almost tempted to say Rob Liefeld could do better. So again, the team just making the best with what they had...which just wasn't a lot frankly.

Also: 100 posts. I'm beginning to feel right at home.

:( Lesean wasn't the problem. Infact he was the one that actually kept it a flot for as long as it did. And to put Ben Alfeck and lesean in the same sentence. Is just wrong

Ok. i do agree with you to a certian point. but to compare Lesean to likes of Rob Leifeld. is just down right mean. :x . That is not nice at all. I'm not sure if you really now what your talking about this statement. Infact I feel that lesean is one of the best in his feild. Yes like artist. They go through a ruff time in any feild. Including myself. i think if you had read or even glaced through Cannon Busters. You would not be leaving such as mean :( Commet like that. To compare to Rob Leifeld is the lowest of the low. Thats like insulting someones mothers. You just don't that. Unless you now them.:D

He didn't compare LeSean to Liefeld on a personal level, he compared their artwork.

Artwork relies on getting visual stimulation from a person and everybody's tastes are different; either you like it or you don't. It's especially hard to get a consensus when the artist has a "kaaa-raaayyy-zeeeee!" gimmick with their art, going more in the direction of cartooning than obeying the structure of human anatomy.

LeSean is one of those artists. His art has a very goofy tone to it, which I, personally, and many others, don't particularly like. So Spawn Guy is entitled to his opinion. You can dislike art without being "wrong". The quality depends entirely on the viewing audience.

But yeah, he's not as bad as Liefeld. NO ONE is as bad as Liefeld. Except maybe Pat Lee.

No, that's still Liefeild.

That dosen't make Lee's work on Spider-Man: The Other any better though.

I dunno what shenanigans Liefeld's gotten into in his career, but Pat Lee is a horrible human being on top of being a dreadful artist.

Just look at the disasters of Dreamwave and Dream Engine as proof of his shady business practicies, theft of art credit and refusal to pay his employees while simulataneously jumping through legal hoops so that he could keep his company Ferrari.

I would have to agree with you guys 100% on this issue, A freind i went to school with that worked on Energon for Pat Lees Dreamwave transfomers series. Alex Milne.Currently working with Pat Lee on Cyberforce. for the three issues my buddy was properly credited for the book. then later. (cheeted). Pat Lee was taking credit for my buddys work. and getting crap pay for it. where is the Justice in that.:x Yes Pat Lee is scum.:x Taking credit for other peoples work then ripping him off for the credit. that is LOW. So I would put Rob Leifeld and Pat Lee in the same boat. then blow a whole in it. and watch it sink to the bottom.

I know this is an old thread, but...

So you can say they where doomed from the very start. Pat Lee was having to do a comic based after the cartoon. And for that it shot them in the foot.

Well... if they were to do a 1980's style comic of the Turtles... it just wouldn't hold up to the Archie series. Not to mention just about every cartoon version of a comic book gets an adaption as a comic from time to time. DC has changed Batman TAS with The Batman, for example. Even the Tick had a short lived 2 issue Graphic novel style comic based on the toon(so much potential wasted). So why wouldn't they make a comic based on the cartoon? Makes sense.

As for them redoing stories from the show... Archie again. The first few issues WERE retellings as well. But they were done pretty well... Dispite no one did any research on how Irma, Vern, and Vernon looked.. or they took creative license with the characters. Personally, I never was able to get any of them, other than the promo comic for the series a friend gave me. You know, the one that's basically a style guide or series bible.

I only have the first two issues. The series just didn't excite me all that much to continue getting it.

For some reason new stories based on the 80's toon sounds interesting. Maybe give the series a slightly more mature tone, but still keep a little bit of that goofiness.
