Well this really sucks. He was a great actor.
Ouch. I have a feeling that will certainly delay the film. Rest in peace, Mako-San.

As much as this sucks. What does this mean for the film? If he finished his VA work...should they use his voice and then change actors for the sequel or should they hire someone new now?
Oh my god...poor guy.
Well, at least his suffering with cancer is at an end. :(

Yeah, but you put your finger right on the problem - if.
If he has finished his voice acting work, then yes, it won't be a problem. The problem though, is if he was half way through recording Splinter, or was just begining. Just begining isn't really a problem, since you can start a new, but if they were half way through recording, they can't exactally get some imitation of Mako and get him to do it. Otherwise, it's not only disrespectful to Mako's memory, but it can also sound horrible.
But, I think we don't have anything to worry about competly when it comes to the film. Apparently, voice acting is one of the first things done after the story board, so then the character's lips can be synced to the voices. It all just comes back to where they were up to when Mako died :(

It's bad enough Mako was the voice of freaking Aku from Samurai Jack, but this is a real blow to the morale of the team and the fans having just saw how good the trailers are

This is awful. God Bless Mako's soul and his family and friends. He was great as Aku in Samurai Jack. I'm sure he made or would have made a great voice for Splinter.

He had throat cancer! Oi! :o
Lets just hope that he either finished his sessions or they hadn't even started yet. Either way they need to hire on another actor for the sequel. :(
But MAN! A day after they announce he's been cast as Splinter, he dies! :ohwell:

Very sad. :( I've seen Pearl Harbor before, one of the movies he did, but I can't remember the character he played since it's been a long time I saw it. I never watched anything else with him in it.

I'll be damned...that's' sad. He did have a long life and I'm sure a good one.

Ya probably have and just didn't know it... he was the Wizard in the Schwartzenager Conan movies, he was the voice of Aku in Samurai Jack. His most recent film was Memoirs of a Geisha.

Yeah, I saw all that, but Pearl Harbor is the only movie/show I've seen with him in it. I've never seen any of the others.

Damn, that really sucks. R.I.P, Mako-san.
It seems they are forced now to hire the New Toon Splinter's voice actor.

Oh my god. He was a great voice actor. My prayers to his family.
I don't want to sound heartless, but I really hope he got to finished recording he lines. I'll miss Mako, but I also don't want to see the film suffer also.

If they already did voices I think they would have released info on who will be doing what voice. And he isn't listed as doing the voice yet. I would assume that if they did do voices already they would have to use his. Since it's already synced up to his lips. If they switch at this stage they would have to re-animate whole scenes which could cripple the movie. And be very costly.

Is Comic-Con still going on? I wonder if we can get a hold of someone and ask. Oh...time to e-mail Dan and see what is happening now with this.

Dan may not be aware of any of this yet, so if anyone emails him, please be delicate.
It would be a nice last bit of legacy for Mako if he finished recording TMNT. And if not, they'll make it OK. They'll get someone new or Shemp the remaining. Things like this have happened before.
I have a feeling that no matter what, they won't hire Splinters cartoon VA for this part.

Incredibly unfortunate timing... mere days after the board explodes following the trailer upload, this sad news is announced.
Mako's family has my deepest sympathies, and should the vocal work have been completed hopefully the TMNT team will use it to honor his memory, I certainly expect there might be a dedication in the movie.

Seriously bad timing. According to the article, he died on Friday... exactly the day the trailer was released. May he rest in peace.

No. The trailer was released on Thursday. Right after they showed it at Comic Con and announced that Mako would be voicing Splinter.

Rest in peace Mako. Really sad news.
His voice was perfect for Splinter. A wise yet friendly voice. Probably like the man himself I guess. I just hope that they will be able to find a voice as great as his for splinter now.

This news huts at the worst time. Not only the New Turtles movie but Avatar has recently been renewed for two more seasons. Uncle Iroh (Voiced by Mako) was one of the best characters in the show, due in part by Mako's voice acting. I now wonder the fate of that character as well as the voice of Splinter for the new movie.
Of course I feel really bad for Mako ether way, great actor.

Not familiar with any of his work, but it sucks for his family and his fans. Really lousy timing too.

R.I.P. to Mako. I loved Aku from Samurai Jack. I didn't even know that was him. To be honest, I didn't even know who he was. But he was (going to be) a part of the TMNT resurrection, so I tip my hat to him.

wow this is bad timing but I'd like to hopefully clue some of you in on this all it seems as if he may have recorded his parts allready because at the bonus clips his voice was the one who was heard the most.
I just thought I'd let you all know. :D

:( Man, that sucks. But you never know this may play like Shrek, where they had to replace the late Chris Farley with Mike Myers after his untimely death. But man, he must have not shown much signs of his illness, if he was already cast for the project.

Sad news indeed, Don't know if he had recorded all the dialogue, Usually for animated films, All the dialogue is recorded first and then they work on the animation.

This really sucks. :( It's quite a pity for fans and family. Splinter's an essential character and the VA for him is just as essential. I'm sure Mako's in a better place now. I'll be praying for him and his family.
