I just watched The Incredibles last night and I must say that it was an awesome film. The CGI was amazing and I felt they did a good job with the story.

What I found particularly of interest, and this relates to the upcoming TMNT flick, is that the movie got away with quite a bit of violence. There were several on screen deaths (both henchmen and civilians), the skeletal remains of a character, and the discussion of the murder of several characters. What's truly impressive is that all of this was done with a "PG" rating. Also bear in mind that the new TMNT flick will probably have a slightly older audience in mind than The Incredibles had. So I think we can make the assumption that the new TMNT film can really push the envelope with on screen violence.

It appears that a CGI film can get away with more in a PG flick than a regular film can. This can work out very well for us TMNT fans come March! :tgrin:

Cartoons get away with murder...it's a shame really heh j/k
But yea cartoons have always been violent look back to even bugs bunny and others and you'll see you can get away with allot more in an animation movie than you would a real life movie.

...Since when the heck was a Disney movie, even ones developed by Pixar, ever NOT full of violent actions and dark undertoning? Disney's greatest efforts, Sleeping Beutey, Snow White, The Black Cauldron, The Lion King, etc, were full of that stuff long before The overrated Incredibles joined in.

I think you're right about the violence. You can get away with more in animation. Audiences have really become inured to it, even amid the outcry. I'm fine with violence as long as realistic consequences go along with it, which has been less of a problem with TMNT than with other things.

I didn't like The Incredibles. The production is great and everything, but I felt it was kind of ordinary. I don't care how great Pixar is if there's no heart. TMNT will be more visceral, which means the impact of violence in scenes will be more intense.

Zarius, you're like a cute baby everyone wants to hold, a kitten everyone wants to pet. You're adorable.

Such a peach.

Hell yeah!

But the new tmnt movie isn't really a "kids movie" is it?

True but you've got to admit that bodycount in "The Incredibles" was MUCH higher than in the other movies you mentioned.

More proof comes from Kill Bill Vol 1. The origin of Oren is shown in anime. Had this scene been live action with people, the movie would have probably been rated NC-17. The only way a movie can get away with more violence with live action movies, is if it's filmed in black and white. The big battle with the yakuza in Kill Bill Vol 1 was shown in black and white for this reason.

*Off topic: In Japan the battle with the yakuza was shown in color.*

Edit: I wanted to add that alot of the action in the new TMNT cartoon, if it were live action would have been PG-13 most likely. Because it's a cartoon it gets a rating of Y7, which is equal or probably alittle less than PG.

The movie as well as the turtles are for everyone not just one age group.

Also during the Comic-con interview of Kevin Munroe he states that he wants TMNT to have the action of "Blade" and "The Matrix".

Later at the IGN interview he states that the film will have the same action meets humor feel as "Ghostbusters", "Diehard", and "Lethal Weapon".

That's an intersting combo of films there.
