First off, let me make it absolutely clear what this is not. This is not a chance to talk about Bendi’s slow knuckle drag pacing approach to a story, the start of which could be summed up in two of the five issues it takes for a minor part of the general arc he's supposedly creating, or the roster that involves two characters that don't do that much and already about thirty or so books anyway. Although I will probably back the majority of complaints about the title depending on what day of the week it is. I also except that the title probably will take a few jabs because of what this is actually about, but again this isn't the purpose of this thread.

This is about how you would do it. Your the grand architect of Marvel's premier superhero team. How would you do it? Would you avoid the Disassembled route completely and take the past roster to new heights of glory? Would you include the Civil War idea and split them down the middle?
What, ultimately, would you do?

Honestly I like the idea of making The Avengers the Marvel equivalent to the Justice League. I would make the team a combination of staple Avengers characters and Marvel main eventers:

-Captain America
-Iron Man
-Thor

Those two are essential.

-Hank Pym
-Wasp

C'mon, they are founding members

-Hawkeye
-Vision
-Quicksilver

More characters that are regulars.

-Spider-Man
-Hulk
-Luke Cage
-Spider-Woman

Spider-Man is pretty much the Superman of Marvel Comics, so I think he should be on The Avengers, even if he isn't a part of every mission (he's still doing the solo thing). Hulk is a founding member I'd like to bring back, replacing Wolverine who is on too many teams these days. Luke Cage has been brought back into the spotlight recently so he's a keeper. Spider-Woman, same with Cage.

So, what about story lines? One of the main problems I've had with the book is it could have gone a lot further and been a lot better if Bendis stopped dragging things out.

That's just something Bendis does quite a bit on all of his books. There are Ultimate Spider-Man stories that could have easily been done in around three issues. Clone Saga is currently on Part 5 I think and has two more to go, but at least that has remained interesting.

You can't really apply the same dynamic to a team book though. He does a great job with Cap and Spiderwoman, but the others are just...there. Iron-Man, Cage and the Sentry are cool Wolverine and Spidey seem kind of tacked on (but considering they have three or so books each and garunteed guest star spots on any book Marvel chooses that's understandable) but Wolverine's been gone for the majority of the run and Ronnin hasn't made an apperance since. I just think Bendis could have got a lot more done instead of five arcs and a Civil War tie in. It's weird when a team gets more done appearing in other books instead of their own.
