The Glorious Return of the TMNT

Being my first post on here, I thought I'd make it a doozy. first off, great finding such a cool forum for TMNT! I recently caught wind of "mikeystmnt.com", and found a link to hear. Anyways...without further ado...at the beginning of 2003, I think we can safely say the Ninja Turtles are back. And it's all full circle...from underground black and white comic to super over exposed mainstream phenomenon to back to where it all began with the fans.

It's been an interesting journey. In the late 80's, the TMNT had become one of my favorite things next to the Muppets, Star Wars, and Transformers. Be it the black and white comics(non Archie), toy line, cartoon, or video games. Then 1990 hit...and the 80's came to a crashing hault. While 1990 saw the release of what I consider one of my top three favorite films of all time(the first TMNT, a perfect blend of Jim Henson Creature Shop and Eastman/Laird) it also saw the all out sell out of the TMNT to an almost iconic Barney/Power Rangers status. It was a fast plummet from there, only to be brought back to the underground whilst it came. Same thing happened with the Muppets...only the ture fans survived. We saw a few things, the Jim Lee Image Comics thing in 1996 and the Next Mutation series in 1997.

But finally...finally I think it's safe to say the TMNT are coming back to the glory they last had in the late 80's....be it comics, video games, the cartoon, toys, etc.

It's actually an interesting point in history...I think things are going back(hopefully) to the magic and innocence of the 80's. You got the return of the TMNT and the new Muppet Show on Fox this year...Transformers revival in full swing. GI Joe, Heman, Thundercats. Retro video gaming is all the rage again, with new takes on classics like Shinobi, Contra, Zelda, Metroid, etc. Heck, you also have a return to the fantasy film genre, albeit with cgi replacing good ol animatronics/puppetry.

So yes, the era of rad is coming back in a while new light...not just mere 80's nostalgia kitch at Hot Topic, but a return to something the horrific 90's took away. Even in tonight's new episode of Farscape a similair theme of going back to the 80's is explored. Just something abou that decade...A return to the iera of innocence, splendor, imagination, and wonder.
So now it truly is coming full circle...

Yeah I have been thinking the same way. I t seems that 00's will be the second 80's.

and yeah the TMNT is coming back. First the New volume of the comic begins in Chirstmas 2001, and Now a new cartoon is close. And if it becomes popular, it will give green light to other TMNT related projects like the CGI miniseries or the 4:th movie.

Let's home that TMNT will get popular once again. Of course the New comic sells very well, but he cartoon needs to be a success for any to company start thinking about TMNT movie.

It's true..the rage must be awoken completely for the TMNT 80's to fully return here.I just hope it goes the same as back then, and that Europe will get the same Turtle flow as they had back then.

I'm also looking forward to the comic based on the TV series. A kind of Archie but drawn in the style as the comics of Spiderman, Transformers en Thundercats nowadays

Definetly not. I still think that all time best action movies were made in the 80s. The ones like Die Hard and Terminator. Sadly they can't make as good movies today. Well The Matrix is the best of the Newer action movies.

True, SOME 80's tv shows are back, but don't you realize that they are all getting modernized? No one wants to hear the slang from back then or the things that were 80's in the show...so all that is coming back are the shows that had played then.

No one wants to hear the slang from back then or the things that were 80's in the show...so all that is coming back are the shows that had played then.Yet people are acting out the 60s in our generation...

i think its a habit for every 15-20 years something to be popular again. see, at that time, the things we remembered as kids are fond memories when we are just starting to see what a craphole the world is. so they bring back what we have good memories off. then, when we reach 30 or so, we give up on our good dreams, and the next generation has a wave of nostolgia. and so on and so forth hehe.

Indeed, I predicted/hoped for this a year ago, and it looks like it is slowly happening...the 80's are coming back,but with a new twist. I think people of all ages remember this time of dreaming an dinnovation so fondly...music, even the super mainstream kind had a certain flair to it. The movies...Dark Crystal, Blade Runner, Tron, Back to the Future, Ghost Busters, Goonies, Empire/Jedi, Willow, Labyinth, the Muppets Take Manhattan, Star Trek 4, ET, etc...
I even consider TMNT a film fromt he late 80's as it was filmed entirely in 1989 and was the only one to have that special, dark and edgy feel to it before the politically correct 90's kicked in. Since then the only real films to have captured my imagination like those would be the Matrix and LOTR films.

I think a lot of folks see the 90's as a kind of era where younth angst, cynicism, jadededness, and complacency took over the innocence and wonder of the 80's. The 90's, from Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit to Columbine were defined by this youth agression...mirrored in music and the movies. Oddly enough it still feels like the 90's...just that Bush Sr was replaced by Bush Jr, Vanilla Ice for Eminem, New Kids for N*Sync, and
Nintendo 64 for Gamecube.

But the 80's are coming back...but in that new light, not mere rehash Im thinking. Look at those astonishing new Dreamwave Comics and Wildstorm updates on Transformers and Thudercats. I would be in awe if they made a new TMNT series like that(sorry, but the current series just doesnt capture the imagination as it should to me)

So yes, we're all hurling back to the late 80's...before the TMNT exploitation and crash of 1990. When things were fresh and exciting...
So trade in your goatees, tatoos/piercings, grunge music, and youth angst...were going back to the future to kick some shell!

I can understand the new volume doesn't come to same level as the original Mirage did. Still very entertaining.

And yeah there will be a comic based on the show, and becuase it's for younger audience, Im not sure If I will be buing it.

There's a new comic, Im assuming color, coming out for the show? I think I have a teaser of it. Toys R Us was giving out these Fox Box promos, and they came with a mini TMNT comic...I kind of enjoyed it more than the new Mirage series because it had color...though the drawings werent as good.

Btw, someone mentioned dreamwave might be making a TMNT comic? Or was that a rumor? Hmmmm...

Anyways, as long as the new comic isnt in the vein as that horrific Archie version of the early 90's.

The new comic is made By dreamwave. And the Fox box thing was Drawn By michel Dooney If i remember correctly. Nothing to do with new comic.

And if the Black&white is the reason you don't like the new volume, Then you have missed the whole point...
