View Full Version : Movie bumped up a week
The TMNT will be hitting screen one week earlier according to Superhero Hype. Here's the link: http://www.superherohype.com/news/tmntnews.php?id=4748
(Their competition is Bean II? Oh man, they are so going to kick ass! Sorry a little too excited.)

ComingSoon.net reports that Warner Bros. Pictures will release writer-director Kevin Munroe's CG animated TMNT a week earlier than was expected. The turtles will now hit theaters on March 23, where it currently faces "Bean II," "Mr. Brooks" and "Pride."

Good, I was a little worried - they would have been up against Meet the Robinsons otherwise, which I've heard some buzz about online (particularly amongst animation geeks).
And the obvious benefit is that's one less week I have to wait. :D
I don't agree with Masked Ninja.

March 23rd now??
Ah well.. a week less than previously reported...
And now the movie is up against some lame movie starring Tom Arnold (Pride), Bean II (which nobody wants to see anyways), and a Kevin Costner crime drama (Mr. Brooks)....
So basically TMNT now has no competition cuz it's being released with 3 movies that star people that everyone hates.... great job Warner Bros.

That weekend I will try my best to see TMNT. If not that weekend, then for sure the weekend after that.:)

That weekend I have no idea what I'm gonna be doing, as I live in Sweden, and will probably have to wait longer to see the movie (especially since I want to see it with original dialog, which might not even be possible in theatres around here if they don't show two versions).
So what I need is...
A) The luck that they'll show the English-speaking version in theatres around here, preferrably in March.
B) Money for a vacation.
C) To break the law and then buy the DVD when it comes out.

I have no idea if I'll be seeing this on opening day or not. I figure I'll be lucky enough if I just get to see it on opening weekend.
It's most likely gonna be freakin' crowded because that's a usual thing for movies on their opening days and weekends.

You guys aren't getting the point. Yeah, they're moving the date up, but that's nothing compared to what may be coming out 2 weeks before and the week before it hits theaters. Think about it... March 9th, you have 300, Hot Fuzz, The Namesake, Reign Over Me, Severance and Virgin Territory. The next week, you have Blind Dating, Firehouse Dog, Lucky You, Premonition, Stardust, and Sunshine.
I know they don't seem like threats, but any one of those 12 movies could be major sleeper hits. Yeah, TMNT doesn't have that much competition, but the week after, Meet the Robinsons is thretening. This is why TMNT is getting released then instead of a summer point. It would get CRUSHED under the summer competition. HP5, Transformers, and Spider-man 3 all have $100 Million written in their stars in their first weeks.

I don't know.. I've heard alot of good things about 300... I actually wanna see it...mostly cuz Im into historical stuff.
Plot of 300:
"In 480 BC, the Persian king Xerxes sends his massive army to conquer Greece. The Greek city of Sparta houses its finest warriors, and 300 of these soldiers are chosen to meet the Persians at Thermopylae, engaging the soldiers in a narrow canyon where they cannot take full advantage of their numbers. The battle is a suicide mission, meant to buy time for the rest of the Greek forces to prepare for the invasion. However, that doesn't stop the Spartans from throwing their hearts into the fray, determined to take as many Persians as possible with them."
"Reign Over Me" stars Adam Sandler in a post-911 movie about a man who lost his family on 911 and then finds love in an old flame....
Severence apperantly is already out... :P
Hot Fuzz is a British cop comedy.... yea.. uh...that'll go well in the U.S....
Virgin Territory: A comedy set in Italy during the Bubonic Plague...that's apperantly based on some book I've never heard of that was written in the 14th century...stars Hayden "Anakin Skywalker" Christensen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decameron
Blind Dating aka Blind Guy Driving: A blind young man (Pine) thinks he finds love with an Indian woman (Jay), though their relationship is fraught with cultural differences.
Shoot Out Of Luck (March 10th): A musical about Gangsters fighting Cowboys...Reportadly stars Willie Nelson.... must... see...
TV Virus: A crazy man from the mountains now roams the streets of Hollywood proselytizing that TV signals are embedded with a dangerous virus. Two high school girls shoot a documentary about him, but the more they investigate, the more one of them begins to believe it.
Shadows of Atticus: A girl loses her mother in a car accident...her family is fraked now...but hey...a dog named Atticus saves everyone.... everyone loves a movie about a dog right? um...yea
Twisted Fortune: A down-and-out thief finds he's got a bottle cap worth a million bucks. Unfortunately, he discovers this while robbing a convenience store. (Twisted fortune so named cuz uh you twist the bottle caps and look under em...yea... lame)
Stardust: Possably the biggest competition.... In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm. Magic, mystery, fantasy, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Peter O'Toole!
Premonition: A housewife is shocked when her husband dies in a car crash and reappears the next day. She realizes it was a premonition and tries to avoid the tragedy.
Stars Sandra "My husband is not THAT Jesse James!" Bullock
Sunshine: 50 years into the future, the Sun begins to die, and Earth is dying as a result. A team of astronauts are sent to revive the Sun - but the mission fails. Seven years later, a new team are sent to finish the mission as they are Earth's last hope.

Well, now we know they're not behind in production or anything, and hey, one less week of waiting. It's all good.
Yea, Im pretty happy with the release date...and you're definately right- TMNT would get shredded in the Summer (no pun intended :) )...
I hope they do a killing at the box office. We all need to do our part!! I know I'll be there opening weekend- watch it once, maybe twice...

Only thing we can do about this is promote the movie. Anyone know if any of the fan groups/sites have something going on that? I want site banners. Didn't get a response from Warner but maybe someone else did. I want to know if they have any promo materials set up... but I doubt it. I think if they printed flyers/posters the collectors would steal them for their own instead of tacking them up for the public. :)
I've always been on the periphery of TMNT fandom, but if anyone knows how to get lots of fans to email the talk shows and ask them to have supertalker Kevin Munroe or other TMNT people on, now's the time, my peoples.

They most likely figure Ghost Rider would stomp it so they moved it up a week where it had nothing to compete with it.

Whether it does the biggest business at the box office doesn't affect my intention to go and enjoy it. Our enjoyment of it should be all that matters. But I can understand some here are clearly worried about it. It may never be a cross the board hit that will make nonfans appreciate it but that isnt who its being made for, is it? ;)
Oooo....this is giving me goose bumps. Seven days less? SWEET! *runs around in circles*
I'm honestly so hyped about this. As soon as 2007 rolls around, I will be going turtle crazy. Trying to buy posters, seeing the movie...buying the movie...buying random DVDs...:P By the sounds of it, TMNT is most likely going to be a huge hit. A dimond amoung the dirt. A pearl amoung coal. But all the same we should promote it as much as possible. As soon as I get back to school on Monday I'm going to see who wants to come with me to a screening in a mass crowd and who wants to wear a turtle costume before ording tickets for all of us  Oh, the craziness of it all...

They need to start promoting it more. The only people I know that are aware of this new TMNT movie learned of it off the internet or from me. I myself, learned from the internet. But there is nothing being said at my local theaters. And I live in a pretty big city.

Commercials really start getting aired for movies usually within two weeks prior to the day it arrives in theater. Trust me, the time will come where the masses know about this movie.

Grrr!
Any other time, I would be SO HAPPY with the date being moved UP instead of BACK! But that's right in the middle of my friend's spring break.........when we're going to New Zealand for two weeks........ I really really really wanted to go opening weekend and party with some fellow in-town TMNTers ._.
