Does anybody on here do martial arts? I've always been obsessed with matrial arts, which, come to think of it, is probably a by-product of being a turtles fan! :D
I do Wado-Ryu Karate, I'm a blue belt at the mo. We get to play with some cool weapons, I've used the sai, katana, bo and nunchakus so I'm extra lucky! Found the sai the most difficult and boring. The bo was too big for me so I tend to use a jo. Katana are really cool and nunchakus are just the best! I own a pair but the chain in the middle is too long for me so I can't use 'em properly!
Best weapon ever though! ;)

I currently take Shotokan Karate, and I'm testing for a brown belt this Sunday. My dojo offers a separate class for weapon training, but I'm not currently enrolled in it. Before karate, I took Jujitsu for about a year, but I didn't test for any belts.

I've always wanted to... And I went to talk to a dojo about it once. But, unfortunately, it is VERY expensive here, and I can't afford it.

I'm a first-degree black belt in Songham TawKwonDo.
But I don't think it counts... ATA = McDojo :(

I want to but money and time. Demura-sensei has his dojo down the street from the bus yard...thats where I wanna go but ...I'm never in Santa Ana...and I practically LIVE in the bus.

I used to do some form of karate, then self-defense when I was younger. I got up to yellow belt, then lessons would have to be paid for, I guess, after that. It was fun while it lasted.
I used to take Karate when I was 12. Right now, I mostly just imitate moves I see or remember.
I do like to collect nunchakus. :D
BTW, wish me luck that I get my hands on a awesome looking naginata I saw at the mall cutlery yesterday. That little bastard belongs to me.

ooooh. If I had known you were looking i could have given you my old training nagi. Man I love that thing. It's made of wood so little Katie couldn't cut herself....good piece of equipment.
..um anyway, on topic, right? I did 13 years in various forms. mostly different kobudo schools and a couple tae kwon do dojangs. I have a black belt in both diciplines and am fairly skilled with the kobudo weaponry.
I don't do tournaments anymore because of injuries, but i do do exhibition shows for scout troops and carnivals and such (hey, it's a little exra money, right?)

Hey, since we all love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (you'd have to love them to be a member here unless you were dragged by your ankles and forced at gun point to join and be active)...
who here takes martial arts??
If so, which one?
If not, would you want to if you had the time and money? Then which one?
Me:
I take Tae Kwon Do, Korean Martial Arts, I am a Bo Black belt, this fall I'm testing for my black. I'm trying to learn a lot of kicks so when i spar, I can throw a lot of random and useful kicks! I just learned the split kick and Flying Side-Back Kick (it's just flying side kick with a back kick in there). I am now an instructor who helps the Master with all of his classes (except adult) and I get paid! I work full time there and will soon get my own key (big step for me).
Well... what about you?

I've been telling myself for years that martial arts will be my reward to myself for when I get a "proper" job that will allow for me to pay for it. But I suck and the liklihood of having such a job anytime soon (ever?) seems to be incredibly small. So it goes...
If I could, I think I'd probably go for Tae Kwon Do, though.

Does the animation in your signature have 1406.97 KB? :C
To stay a little bit on-topic - never been interested in them, might never take any of them in my life at all.

Nowadays, the only Martial Art I do is Body Combat at the gym.
Ten years ago I took one called Shim Shin Do. I left partially due to backaches, and partially due to severe depression.
Currently, I don't have time for scheduled practice and only do Body Combat when I have a day off that permits it.

I started Aikido a little while ago. Mainly to center myself and I just love the philosophy behind Aikido. I'm just at the point in my life that I want something separate from the other parts of my life. Kind of like a little place where nothing else can touch and I can focus on just being then and there. I plan to take up Iaido once I figure out how to fall without hurting myself.

I have my black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I have a black belt in the Kobudo arts. I used to fight in all kinds of tournaments and things and was on the demo team with my dojang until I got all smashed up and broken in that car accident last year. :ohwell:
It's fun. I loved it..it was good exercise and all that, but not too easy to do on crutches with a broken pelvis. I guess I am a retired tournament fighter now.

Oh, Katie, you poor thing -that sounds horrendous!
Never done any form of martial arts myself, unless you include basic tai chi and zi gung.
I am a dancer though which uses a lot of the same principles in terms of centre, balance and discipline.
Pshh, I learned how to fight on the streets, homie. I'm a hardcore gangsta like that.

I tried to do kickboxing once but im not limber enough. Plus one of my legs are weird since I tore ligaments in it. So I cant try anything else.
I'm too nice anyway, wouldnt hurt a fly, I mean do you not have to want to cause harm to someone? Plus, Im a weak as a kitten.
I do have VERY long nails though...*gouge gouge*

ah, kick boxing is my thing, I love it and it makes me feel confident. I like the fact I could kick someone in the head if they messed with me...lol
But really I do sometimes wish I would have tried a class in some martial arts form.

I just tend to kick people in the balls. I call it ballsjitsu. The Art of the Balls, for those of you who don't pretend to speak Japanese.

I do ninjutsu with my friends...Aikiken and meditation. For me meditation belongs to martial arts. For my friends it's boring stuff ^^

OK I blame this thread - I dreamt last night I was a ninja! Now I wish I was. Sometimes my husband calls me a ginger ninja. Only half of it is true though. And it's not the ninja part.

I took karate for a few years when I was in high school, but then I had to stop at red belt when I moved away for college.... I'd been meaning to go back to martial arts ever since then, but never quite got around to it until now! Today was my second Togakure-Ryu Ninjutsu class, and it was extraordinarily fun. It felt so good to be back in action after seven years of relative inactivity! Plus, my gi is black. Way cool. Seriously, if there are any other Bostonites reading this thread who want to try some ninja action, I'd highly recommend the dojo I just started at.

OMG, I just had a dream I was a ninja too!! And in my dream...I kicked some serious ass!
To the topic, I have never done any martial arts classes, but always wanted to for self-defence purposes. But since I am not going to any classes, I rely on my training in Voltron's art of ballsjitsu (although I am not the skilled master that Voltron is) and my sweet Batman purse. Yes, I am 29 and have a Batman purse as my day to day purse. People look at it and go "is that a Batman purse?" so that's when I nod and beat the unsuspecting bullies with my purse, which is very heavy :)
