Does anyone think the new film should ignore the three made back in the day before CGI, or should it properly acknowledge any or all of them?
Do you want to know if it will or if we think it should?
It will pay homage to at least the first, the way Superman Returns did to the Chris Reeve films. And, it will likely have throwbacks to the other two.
As far as whether or not I think it should, I say, "why not?" They're not restricted by the old storylines. They're just adding this for fun. It's a scavenger hunt for older fans who are taking their kids to count how many references to the old trilogy they can spot. It's just another way to engage the audience that makes for a successful movie. :)

I thought they were doing it for the money and maybe to tell a great story, not just for fun. Unless you mean something moire specific than my original question. And yes I meant do you think it WILL or SHOULD have references to the old trilogy.
Its its own movie, but they didn't want to re-tell the origin story so they won't,
It'll do most 'references' to the first movie mainly about their origin and that the shredder is dead, and there will be a few nods to the other two movies, so for people who really want they could put them 'in continuity' while no one else would have to bother about it.

Excellent. I wouldnt like for it to be a reinvention of what we already know. I am wondering if the official movie title will be added to by the time March rolls around. Right now the movie is just known as TMNT, right, but no subtitle or anything specific?

TMNT is the official title. They're not gonna add a subtitle. They are already making merchandise for this movie.

Sounds good to me. Lets hope they dont do like George Lucas did with Return of the Jedi and crank out stuff only to have the title amended later.

The Revenge of the Jedi stuff actually goes for a pretty penny nowadays. 'Nothing wrong with that.

Well, we already know that this movie has spawned a new TMNT video game (thank God that it's on the GBA, so cool), but does anyone know if it will have its own line of action figures??

No because if I have to sit through one more TMNT origin story I'll bleed out of my anus.
From what I hear, it's a continuation from movies 1 and 2. For the good will of the public they are just going to pretend TMNT 3 didn't happen.

Ignore #3. I'd prefer it they ignored 2, start ater 1 and give it a proper sequel.

Um...the DS is "antiquated"? It's less than two years old. Not to mention it's completely dominating the PSP (and most full console machines, for that matter) in the market.
It'd make much more sense for whoever's developing it to make it for DS and not the (pretty-much failing) PSP.

I read (in the same article that announced the Kevin Smith cameo) that it was a continuation of the third movie. I like that idea.

There is going to be a game for the PSP
And DS isn't "antiquated". The original DS is barely over 2 years old while the DS Lite is almost one year old. In fact, the PSP is approximately 21 days younger than the original Nintendo DS.
So there! Oh, and by the way, the DS (both incarnations) has sold nearly 36 million units worldwide while the PSP is merely about to reach 23 million units worldwide. That's around a 13 million unit difference. That's about a $2.6 Billion (USD) difference.
Don't mess with the DS.
Aww, crap. The comment I just replied to is really old. Oh well. I'm not deleting this now.
Oh, and as for the actual topic at hand... it will pay slight homage to all three movies (and then some).

the new film is not completly bound by the old films but from what we have seen from the pics and heard from the writer/director it does'nt wipe the film adventures completly out of continuity either. Similar events as TMNT 1,2 and 3 happened to these turtles alongside other adventures we did'nt see.

Kevin Munroe has stated repeatedly that the new film will follow the first film but will include aspects of the 2nd (knowledge of TCRI) as well. He has also stated, and the shot of Splinter staring at the "trophy" wall indicates, that the film will not discount any of the adventures from the two, let's say: "less than stellar", sequels.

the comics that are being developed will link the first 2 movies with this one. Also, the movie apparently has rated PG but I thought that it was border-line PG-13.

All of the movies have been PG.

Yes, but there were some online articles that indicated that this movie was borderline between PG and PG-13. Also, Munroe indicated in one of his interviews that he would like to push the movie into an almost PG-13 movie.

I still think that's the case because, unless I'm interpreting things wrong, him and Peter Laird are only changing things when what they have will take it out of the PG level... or something like that.
Maybe you should ask that in the "Front Lines" thread.

It is PG because there is no blood in the movie just like the previous 3 movies.
