Nope. It's the subtle-to-the-point-of-being-subliminal fact that they spit in the eye of the old myth of Turtles being slower than my little brother.

Maybe as frogs. I always liked the frogs Shredder made, and i hated how they never completed the four of them as action figures back in the vintage line.

Frogs, maybe. But lizards usually seem to be cast as the villains.

Well if you think about it turtles are not the most appealing animal either, so i'm guessing yes they would have, specially if they were lizards as they are more appealing than frogs..

Probably. I think the entire show having mutant ninja animals was pretty much odd enough for a watch or two. It all comes down to the action.

Personally, other than the fact they had their shells as armor, you could change most of it without notice.

I would say no. Turtles, in general, all have a relatively same appearance no matter what species they are. Lizards, however, have several different looks. There are too many to simply pick out four and not have the diversity covered. The rest would need to be included, then a choice of ally or enemy would need to be made, then different abilities, and so on. Mind-numbing.

Frogs... Frogs might work, but the tongue factor might make their weapons insignificant. :P

Well take account into all the TMNT clones we had, Mouses, Sharks, Dinosaurs yet none were succesful (not as much as TMNT at least), and Dinosaurs and sharks are more appealing than turtles..

DUDE! I'd SOOO watch a toon about ninja penguins!!! That would totally rock! They'd probably be Emperor's tho... or King's....Altho the Macaroni seem to be the ones used the most in animation and the jackass' are the ones seen in zoos (cuz they live in Africa so they can handle hot temps).

*hugs all her Penguin plushies*

Raph would soo totally be a Macaroni tho...

I think they would have had the same success. For me it would be even better if they were frogs since they are one of my favorite animals.

Macaronis are the creepy ones? I'll keep that in mind. Those blood-red eyes and gnarly punker 'dos should make them bad guys in a fictitious situation. Though, that doesn't explain Happy Feet or Surf's Up. :ohwell:

Uh actually those aren't Macaroni Penguins (oops I messed up..I always get em confused).... Lovelace ("Happy Feet") and Cody (the lead penguin in "Surf's Up") are Rockhopper's. They are related to the Macaroni tho.

The major differences between the Rockhopper and Macaroni is that the Rockhopper are much smaller and have short plumes while the Macaroni have the big plumes. The other Penguins in the family are the Fiordland, Erect Crested, and Snares.

Now the Erect Crested are aptly named  :

But anyways.. yea... the Penguins in those films are Rockhoppers.

Turtles being the least appealing animals is subject to opinion. I find them quite adorable, fascinating to watch, pretty easy to feed, and fun to breed and raise their babies. Maintenance on the other hand, is a pain in the butt.

So, yeah, they'd be popular. But, they wouldn't be as popular. Since they were marketed to tykes in the late '80s, the intended audience is well-familliar with the turtle always being the harmless, slow, nice guy in cartoons. So, kids like the idea of turtles getting to show-up the other animals. If it wasn't a longer-than-usual stretch of the imagination, would it have kept everyone's attention?

Pictured looks like a desert tortoise, hope it wasn't one of them.
Sticking stuff to their shell actually hurts the animal. The shell is alive, and full of nerve endings. You pet the shell, they feel it. Painting and sticking things to it is detrimental to their health.

The only sad thing about the whole TMNT thing back in the late 80s was that thousands of turtles suffered because parents let kids buy them, keep them in small tanks then dump them whereever they want when they got tired of them. Im not gonna blame TMNT, but the PARENTS! Idiots.

I was thinking in terms of The Lizard from Spider-Man or those things in Land of the Lost.

Turtles on the other hand...Gamera is the one thing that comes to mind other than the TMNT.
