View Full Version : Embarassing Moments in the Show

I was wondering if there were ever any moments in the show where you were embarrased to be watching it. For the most part I have no problems telling my friends I watch cartoons, but on the episode "April's Artifact," there's this little song about jungles or something like that, and I felt so silly watching it. Are there any other times your face turned red while watching it.

I don't remember any song, but I was offended/embarassed by the constant dialog about 'bringing out the jungle girl in April'. Is there some significant connection between jungles and girls that I'm unaware of?

There aren't too many moments that make me embarassed to be watching the show, but there are a few...

*The musical numbers in "April's Artifact" and "City at War" had me cringing like there was no tomorrow.

*I really hated most of the Turtles in Space arc, as well. Particularly the endless Star Wars references and bit with Mikey in drag. It was pretty stupid.

*Garbageman.

*The theme song

the them songs to 2k3
the theme song to fast forward
oh and on the dvd's when it goes brrrrr TEENAGE MUTNAT NINA TURTLES!!
yea that annoys the hell out of me and makes me fell emberassed around my friends when trying to show them the episodes.

The potty humor, like burping and farting jokes *really* brings the show down, if you ask me. That embarasses me more than anything else (almost). Such sophisticated writing, pacing and gorgeous animation yet they interject lazy fart gags when they can't think of anything better to do.

The whole thing with the Ancient One, one of the better points in the 4th season, was almost ruined by all those fart gags.

C'mon, TMNT 2k3, you're better than that...

Just the theme song, and some of the things Mikey says.

Dude, there was only one Star Wars refrence in the whole damn arc.

Dude, there was only one Star Wars refrence in the whole damn arc.

There was the whole Mos Esily Cantina/Pizza joint gag, the Han Solo/Chewie gag, the bit where Raph shoots down a Triceraton ship and Mike says "Don't get cocky", the Fugitoid being very similar to C3PO and I'm sure plenty more I can't remember off the top of my head.

Certainly more than one.

Thanks, Spengs! I was watching it the other day, wondering what movie "Don't get cocky, kid!" was from. If you hadn't told me otherwise, I'd still think it was The Last Starfighter. :embarass:

I definitely agree with the point of the 'fart gag' that's tied in with the Ancient One bringing down that epsiode, and moreso his character. I was a little embarassed to watch it, and was kind of annoyed at the amount of times they'd reused the gag. And the same goes for that whole Star Wars "don't get too cocky" reel in Turtles in Space, it's so cliche. As well, I was sort of getting annoyed by Mikey counting the strikes as they were battling through the asteroid field.
On another note -- and this doesn't particularly bother me -- every time I seem to be watching 2K3 around the people I live with, somebody almost always makes a crack about the Turtles useage of shell (most recently, "Shell of a town," made by a friende who has never seen the intro). I think I'm just so used to it that I don't even notice it anymore. At least it's far better than, 'It's Ninja Time!' (I still can't get over how many times Raph said that line in Headlock Prime).

Yeah, that was meant to be a very tounge-in-cheek rip on Phil Collins

Good thing I like Phil Collins.

Okay fine, 3 refrences. C-3PO was a whiny, closeted homosexual droid, who's only use was tricking those damn Ewoks into not eating Luke and Han.

Professor Honeycutt is a man whos mind was transfered into the body of helper robot, and who was coveted by two warring alien races because of the knowledge he carries.

Aside from the voice, they're two diffrent characters.

...the Fugitoid being very similar to C3PO...
Seriously, I thought you were reaching a bit for this too. But, I just never thought about it before. It took you telling me so before I remembered the "don't get cocky, kid" thing was from Star Wars, so far be it from me to say you're crazy. Now that I was given an excuse to make such a connection, I can easily see a member of the production crew insisting that the Fugitoid needed to be effiminate so he'd be more 3PO-esque. That was about the only similarity I saw though. That's too vague to register as a reference, if you ask me.

I'd say the theme song. Good show, terrible song. :dead:

Ancient One is on a fine line for me. 2k3 avoided fart jokes fairly well up until that episode, and I was glad because I don't find flatulence funny at all. And yet... it didn't feel like they were milking the guy's farting for laughs so much as they were trying to use them to get the audience to underestimate him. Same thing happened for Yoda (which is why most of us older fans saw right through it and had time to get irritated by the grossness of the farting) - he was this crazy little green man until he dropped the act. And Ancient One also dropped the act when Leo figured him out. (thank goodness - it was disgusting!)

Of course, I'd still be embarassed to watch it with anyone else... even though I do accept their method.

Ugh, and April's Artifact... yay, let's watch half of April's clothes get torn off, which magically turns her into a female Tarzan.

And yeah, some of the dumber one-shot villains (Garbageman, Touch & Go to some extent).

There are also some episodes (like the Return of Savanti Romero eps) that are only average at best, but look REALLY dumb when taken out of context - give that to someone who didn't see Time Travails and see if they can make any sense out of it, not knowing who Renet or Savanti Romero are.

I have a list of eps that I would go out of my way to show people, though. So I can say "look - THIS is why the new TMNT was freakin' awesome."

EDIT: Oh, how did I forget?! ...All of Fast Forward. Whenever I mention the new TMNT I note how awesome it is, and then go straight into a miniature rant about Fast Forward. Not promoting this excuse for a "season" to anybody, lest people start thinking the WHOLE new show was this way. :dead: :dead:

Wow, I feel immature. Most of the things people are complaining about are things that I either find funny or I quite like!

But I agree with the April's Artifact stuff. That song pushed beyond the boundaries of OTT cheesiness, and April was just plain irritating! Then again I'm not one to judge that since I find April irritating 99% of the time...

As for being embarrassed watching the show... I can't think of any specific moments but I guess to an extent I'm always embarrassed because the only person I've admitted that I watch it to is my boyfriend, and even then I would never watch it in front of him! Lol.

Don't worry, Sarielle, I feel the same way.

Actually, when talking about "April's Artifact", when I first saw the original, english ep I liked the song. It was cut out in the Danish one, as far as I remember...
And I don't mind the song - what Danes come up with are definitely worse

But the farting in "Ancient One" was a little too much for me at the end, but I think that's one of the few...

I completely agree. And the voices are only similar because of what they are.
And one last thing, about hating the space travel, its pretty essential to the story, so wasnt really much choice. I dont mind it, i liked it, cause i like the Triceratons. But moving on....

Ancient One, i thought it fit. Honestly, how many large set guys in life do you know that dont fart?

As far as any embarrassing moments? cant think of any.

And i don't recall the 'April's Artifact' complaint at the moment, so it must not have been big enough to bother me.

I'm surprised Ancient One didn't do it one last time, although I suppose that would have ruined what was supposed to be a serious moment.

Lol, I know, I was expecting it to be honest... "Oh, he's not going to again is he?". It definitely would not have surprised me! :)

Am I the only guy here who's disappointed that the Acient One didn't fly up that mountain using his fart powers!?!? That would have been a total gas!

Speaking of the Acient One and Star Wars, I find it strange that you guys didn't like the Star Wars jokes in the Turtles in Space episodes. They were jokes, and that was it. I mean, the Acient One Episode was suppose to be taken seriously. Am I the only one who thought it was anit-climatic when the monster's face turned out to be Leo? Everything in the episode screams Star Wars rip-off. The difference here to me is that the writers got really lazy and just decided to rip-off Empire Strikes Back and passed it off as a serious episode. The SW jokes in Turtles in Space were never meant to be taken seriously.

I thought that the part in 'adventures in turtle sitting' when Casey told Don to lie down on the couch 'before he fell down' was a bit strange and embrassing, and plus Don just accepted it, he even closed his eyes while been pushed down and tucked up by Casey.

Lol, i know he was sick and every thing but for some reason it just wasn't right.

Jo Dawn
12-07-2006, 09:30 PM
It was an awkward moment, but I believe that it was meant to be. My feeling was, Casey didn't WANT to do that, but only did it to look better in April's eyes.

*cough*shameless story pimpage ahead*cough* My take on it can be seen here (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3240936/1/).

As for embarrassing things... I'll really have to think on it. Right off the bat, the burping and farting things just don't do it for me... Other than that, I'll have to reflect.

Take a good look at your username. That character was a huge embarrassment to witness. Ugh. I hated every N.A.N.O. episode. You could say the same with Garbageman.

And a lot of Fast Forward was an embarrassment to watch... and that was in solitude.

Oh yeah, and thumb up to the fart jokes from The Ancient One. Pure unnecessary. I'm pretty sure there were other methods that could've been taken for the audience to underestimate him.

Some of the things that come out of Mikey's mouth embarasses me, especially if some one is in ear shot.

One thing that embarassed me was is when the boys get alittle overly silly or act out od character. And yeah the potty humour kind of makes me cringe on occassion.

Mikey: "I'm the king of the world!"
Twice even! Once in the 2K3 ep, "Beginning of the End", then again in a Farce Forward ep.

Meh...
Mikey is being the embarrassing younger bro, and perfectly too.

Mikey: "I'm the king of the world!"
Twice even! Once in the 2K3 ep, "Beginning of the End", then again in a Farce Forward ep.
I laughed. I laughed when DiCaprio said it also. I hated Titanic.

TMNT makes me smile and laugh too much for me to really be embarrassed by any of it. FF makes me laugh too, and often not in the nice way. I think that's ok. Or maybe I'm just crazy. :)

i wasn't a big fan of the nano and garbageman episodes, and definitely didn't like the april's artifact one, i don't know why, it just didn't appeal to me, lol maybe it was the song, i dunno, but they could have did the episode better...but with this said, none of this stuff is embarrassing, borderline yes, but not really. Also on the ancient one farting, i didn't mind it cuz it was to 'underestimate' his character (which i knew it was him anyways) but still it was also kind of borderline too much farting, but glad they dropped it, other than that i haven't had any problems with the farting or burping in the series, some people just need to lighten up on this stuff, its supposed to be lighthearted

...just my 2 cents

Heh, I agree, the theme song is pretty painful. And the guy singing the FF theme song sounds like he's gonna choke on his own "coolness" throughout.

I always cringed when the Turtles were riding around on their various scooters, bikes, skateboards and roller blades... especially the scooter ;)

The earlier episodes are a bit embarassing, because the show hadn't really established itself and had some lame rip-offs of the old show or movies. And whenever the Turtles listen to rap music, or when the show tries to show off street life or gang life without knowing much about it, it's kind of embarassing.

Edit: I just remembered those awful moments in "Prodigal Son" when Leo kept approaching everybody and they just all kept shaking his hand or patting his shoulder. Lame!
