Instead of releasing another volume, Lionsgate will be releasing a five-disc set of the next forty episodes. Wow. And it's release date has been set to coincide with the new CGI movie: March 13th 2007.

http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?item_id=1274102

Lionsgate really wants these releases to stand out, don't they? This one seems packaged a little like those Simpsons sets, based on the cover image. :P

HOT DIGGITY!!!

I was gonna quit after season 3, but that was because I didn't want to wait two years or more for the whole thing.

But all at once? And for $30 bucks?

Sign me up!

Dude, friggen AWESOME. Only one small regret and that's that they're skipping the European vacation episodes until season 7 I guess. Still, I can't friggen wait, this is soooo awesome. Though look at that cover, identical to the cover of volume 5 only Raph isn't hold his sai. Man, they're so lazy.

Awsome, can't wait to add it to my Childhood Memories DVD Collection :P

Also, like to point out that Season/Year 4 is only has 38 episodes and one of them is on volume 6. So maybe it will go as far as the first 2-3 episodes of Season/Year 5.

Yeah the cover absolutely sucks, but what else is new, they've sucked since season 2 and on.

But the price is right, and it's nice to get them all at once so I don't have to remind myself everytime a new old school dvd releases.

Still I'm way behind on watching... I gotta catch up, maybe over the break.

I'm not sure about future releases being in this format. If it works for them I think they'll continue it, but I have a feeling that they only did this because the movie and they think season sets will sell better now that the turtle's popularity will be back up.

not to be repetitive but

Pros:
the entire season on one release at a great price :D

cons:
probably no european vacation
the cover is a rehash, at least let it be new bad cover art

counting all the other seasons have really odd episode count i wonder how the other releases will go, it'll be easier to speculate when we know soon what 40 episodes will be included.
They hopefully release another full "season" in time for the new movie DVD as well.

Wish the new toon would take notice of this 'cashing in' on the new movie.

its a 5 disc set so will we get 8 episodes per disc (making them have better quality), or maybe we will get some kind of extras :D

This would be the 1990 season when they were on Saturday morning for 60 minutes.

Oh man, March will be an expensive month in terms of TMNT stuff--this DVD set, the new comic books, tickets to the movie.

On Molly Bode's guide at NinjaTurtles.com, there are forty 'episode numbers' for the 1990 'season'. However, one of those episodes was on the last DVD, and one of them is a number that has no episode. Since it seems they're not straying much from Molly's guide, I can see them substituting in the Hokum Hare eps (being the first two in the following 'season' and also the last of the syndicated eps [Euro Cruise was technically a USA Network exclusive]). Regardless, 14 syndicated and 26 CBS eps is what I'm expecting. For the Euro Cruise release, I guess we just need to lobby for Lion's Gate to release it separately from the rest of the '93 eps (so us sticklers can choose what order to put it on our shelf). But, since it's only a 27-ep year, I'm not holding my breath. Lion's Gate will most likely do what they want, and once they get into economy packing like this, it'll be hard convincing them to break this 'season' in two. Still, I can hardly wait for March... :thyper: This is gonna be like the '90s all over again! Y'know, when TMNT merch was unavoidable. ^_^

Huzzah! Anyone else excited of the thought of Volume 8 including BOTH Season 5 and 6?

Awesome. At this rate they can actually finish releasing the entire original series on DVD by Christmas '07. (especially since Season's 8, 9 and 10 only had 8 eps each...I assume the Season 10 eps on the first DVD will be "re-released" in their proper order)

well atleast they are releasing them at once, and faster everytime now with more(with the new box set) i'm just excited that i get to watch them on dvd, cuz i already got them all, but in better quality than all the episodes i have of them now, where they have either subtitles or from video tapes

How can there be 40 episodes? There are only 39 episodes of season 4 and the first episode was released on vol. 6? Or are they releasing the first 2 episodes of season 5? that would make sense since those 2 episodes were made for season 4.

we probably won't know for a month or so, and knowing Lionsgates it can be pretty much anything they haven't been consistant at all.

I hope other releases are seasons too, technically only season 3 was separated in volumes. even if they go to volumes after this i'd be ok since they at least sped up the release of another huge season. im very excited.

i used to defend their covers but man i can't do it anymore, as long as they release the entire show i'll be fine.

I'm thinking it's going to end with "My Brother, the Bad Guy" due to the fact that that's where the technodrome gets stuck in a new location thus it was kind of a finale.

this is so sweet I can not wait for March now. All these goodies in month of march--the month I was born in! Now my 23 birthday dosen't seem so much of a bummer with all these TMNT candies that wil be in it. :D

But I guess it is a bit sucky that they won't be realising the Eruopean vaction arc in it :( . But I guess that is alright since we are getting the whole thing at once. I wonder though, does this mean we'll be getting season realeses from now on? Or is this just a special release just to cash in on the turtle movie coming out. And if we are getting season realeses from now on, does that mean we'll go back to once a year realeases?

Hopefully they don't go back to single releases but even then it wouldn't be that bad since the two largest seasons have alredy been released (S3 and S4), maybe they'll have a "European Vacation" disc later with all 13 episodes so we can still put it in "order", who knows Liongates has been very odd with their releases, we will not go back to once a year, that only happened from Volume 1 to volume 2, the other seasons have been less.

Thus why I keep all the official vhs I have. Speaking of errors, did anyone catch the error at the end of the volume 6? They must've directly ripped "Plan Six From Outer Space" from the Planet of the Turtles vhs because after the credits the FHE sequence that was shown at the beginning and end of the later vhs was shown. I got a good laugh at that.

Found out while browsing Animatedbliss.com, only they need to fix the link cause the link is confused with the New TMNT Season 4 link.

And it does look like a real deal in owning the rest of the 1990 episodes.

If they start to release the other seasons in a box set like this, then the entire series will be on DVD within a couple more years.

This is good news to me, cause I'm one of the few members on this forum who didn't get to see much of the old school series, when it was still on the air.

But least I'm seeing more and more of everyone's favorite tv series from back in the day.

since you haven't seen much of these episodes before and seeing these for the first time, what is your opinion on them? Are you enjoying them?

J Legault
12-27-2006, 09:41 PM
Yes I am enjoying from what I've seen from Seasons 1-3, and the 4 lost episodes of the final season.

Just some reason I only mangaged to see less than 15 episodes when it was big during the 90s. Course back then I was hook on numberous cartoons. If I'd paid attention more to the TV schduling I could of seen more with the chance.

After seeing a lot of the Newer Series, watching this one is like an entirely different way of viewing the TMNT. Despite both cartoons to be taken place in 2 different eras and different style.

As a slow going TMNT fan, I am seeing more of the syndicated cartoon that has made it's own franchise over the years. It may have a large number of animation/voice over mistakes, and jokes that are slightly funny. but if I ignore those flaws, I do consider it a classic, and deserves to be listed in best of the 80's cartoons.

Sage Ninja
01-04-2007, 05:27 PM
thats cool but I thought the humour in the old toon was more than just slightly funny. And i'm happy that the humour in it still gets me laughing even now as an adult (I'm 22 years old). Because seriuosly after the out cry of this toon being to violent, the humour and fun aspect of the show was all it had going for it for a while...so I appricate it for that at least.

Let's hope they get a boxset of Seasons 5 and then 6 at least in 2007 as well.

That way they could finish up the show in 2008, since all they'd have left is Season 7...and Seasons 8, 9 and 10 are so short (only 8 eps each season), that they can all be released on the same boxset.

lack of knowledge... but what are turtle tips?

they were little mini clips that aired between shows on Saturday mornings on CBS, there was 12 of them, i used to have them on my computer, but lost them when it crashed a year ago:( ...but they were more or less tips about conserving the environment by recycling and turning off water and stuff like that

EDIT: so after i made the post i got to looking and i found a place u can download all of them, they are on the NTN new site... it http://www.shreddersdojo.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=500

lack of knowledge... but what are turtle tips?

Turtle Tips were essentially CBS's attempt to pass the Turtles off as educational and environmentally friendly children's programming. There were about 12-15 of these 30-second clips randomly shown between episodes of a 1-hour programming block. The Turtles taught the value of conserving water, saving energy, recycling, and using sun-screen, just to name a few.

If you think about it, it makes sense that turtles would be concerned about the eco-system. In fact, I always tear apart my six-pack soda holders to this day because of the example set by Leonardo in one episode.

NinjaTurtlesNetwork.com (I think) used to have most of them up for download, here is one I preserved and reposted:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfgzFV5yKsQ

The 1980s-early 1990s were certainly the "Age of the Public Service Announcement (http://www.xanga.com/Slimer_and_The_Real_Erasmus/478492400/item.html)."

I think he means Wyrm, who was shown in an ad and was supposed to be in an episode but the episode was never shown or possibly made. Scum Bug later showed up acting like he met the TMNT before. So we assume it was the Scumbug and Wyrm episode that is the lost one that never aired. Both being Archie characters that hardly surprises me.

Hello all, Jester here with another full page ad from the Hot Sheet dedicated to our favorite heroes in a half shell. It's for season 4 of the Old Toon...and it says there are actually bonus features!!!* Special features subject to change. :P
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v156/Jesterangalo/TMNTseason4ad.jpg
What I've noticed:
- We're down to 39 eps now (so, color me confuseder as to which they are).
- It doesn't sound like 'Turtle Tips' will be included.
- The TMNT franchise was conceived in '82? I thought it was thought up in '83 & published in '84.
- Let us pray for those poor souls who are subjected to >>* on a 'daily' basis. Sucks to be them. :P

* The phrase '>>' was coined by Jester, a written pun that makes me very jealous... :ohwell:
Since all those titles at TVRage are the obvious 38, I'm willing to bet that was just a best guess rather than official info.

She's a mutant lizard from the looks of it. Also, according to TVrage, it looks like people still don't know "the adventures of" is nowhere to be seen in the title of "Rhino-man." Looking foward to the extras though.

I should point out TVRage's mods created the list for the episode guide way before I even gained control of it.

I probably was a little snippy earlier, I never could make head nor tail of what the heck Mona was supposed to be, head of a Turtle, anatomy of a lizard, there was no real clear distincition. I just went with what other sites had called her...plus any excuse to bash a guy you don't like always has to get in the way of clarity. I worked my butt off getting that guide close to, if not better than, my old TMNT guide at TVTOME and mistakes are bound to find their way in there when you're too busy pumping out synopsises. To have some dick use dated internet slang mocking mistakes that anyone could make (read the official site's attempts at listing the original series credits for once) based on little detail got under my skin. My apologies, and everything's fixed up now.

Love how the official site's listing for "Adventures of Rhino-Man" calls the writer "Davis Wise"

So Dan made a typo, big deal.

But just because it's on the official site doesn't mean it's right. Dan has made it more than clear that Mirage does not always get complete info, if they get info period. The title of that episode as it aired on TV was only "Rhino-Man."

I don't give a crap about the box art myself. I just hope they do a better job of cleaning up the video footage than they had with the last few releases. You can clearly see the odd wavering VHS artifacts in some episodes. It didn't kill my enjoyment of the tapes, but they REALLY should have made a better attempt at it...

But then again, Lions gate somehow only got syndicated versions of ALF for some strange reason.

to me the quality has rarely been a problem i've almost never noticed anything, same with audio i doubt its a VHS transfer. you have to remember its an 80s cartoon its not going to look great and they are not going to spend lots of monety to remaster it sadly.

Where did you see that?

Although, I did check some of the VHS tapes officially released, and I did see some LIGHTER versions of the same mistakes that are in the DVD releases...

For instance, those long 'scratch lines' that run up and down the left side of the screen during 'Mutagen Monster' in season 3 are apparent in the VHS release, only alot less noticeable...

One thing wasn't there on the DVD release... On all the official VHS eps of Pizza by the Shred that I have watched, the color red has TV 'snow' on them. This is thankfully gone from the DVD release.

Deathknight
02-14-2007, 06:45 PM
My official VHS of Pizza by the Shred had no tv "snow." Depends on how you take care of your tapes I guess. Doesn't suprise me that they would reuse them.

Heh, in this case, I found them new on the discount rack in 1995 or so, and bought 4 different copies (they had allot of them, different tapes..I hit the jackpot ;) ). ALL have different levels of snow on the red. Some where really bad, others where light, but still there. Surly I'm not the only one who had this problem.

All appeared on different VCR's too :).

I can't wait! I keep checking amazon.com for confirmation of what exactly will be on it but when I check wikipedia, it lists the 40 episodes whereas on tmnt.com, it lists 38 remaining episodes for season 4 and then the first two of season 5 are included with the rest of season 4 of wiki. So it'll more than likely be everything before 'My Brother, The Bad Guy'. Is it safe to assume the order will be like that of tmnt.com? I'm thinking the first two eps of season 5 (according to tmnt.com) will occur before the Son Of the Fly one.

And another quick question, how long do you guys think it'll be before we hear some info about the next release? I'm already getting excited for season 5 (at least what I hope will be season 5).

EDIT: oops, by tmnt.com, i meant ninjaturtles.com

That's actually what I was expecting. But, since they are conforming to Molly Bode's guide, what few purists they have in their employ might insist on starting each set with the first ep of that season, regardless of redundancy. In other words, we might see "THE TURTLES AND THE HARE" again on the Season Five set. Ya' think?

After finding they doubled-up "Plan Six..", and then checking that list. I too have a feeling that (first-ep.-doubling) might be the case each Set. Just have to wait and see, I guess.
But, also had another thought --- with shorter Seasons to come, maybe they'll combine Seasons in Sets (like what A&E did with Danger Mouse).

Add-On: Guess not (on Turtle Tips). Maybe they'll be a Bonus on another Set?!?

That's 40 eps altogether. The first one, "PLAN SIX FROM OUTER SPACE", is the last ep from the Volume 6 DVD. So, my theory is that since it is the first ep of year four according to Molly Bode's guide @NinjaTurtles.com, I bet we can expect to see "THE TURTLES AND THE HARE" on the next release (since it's the first ep of year five according to Molly Bode's guide @NinjaTurtles.com). Someone above mentioned seeing the original opening and ending to the show, well that's correct. The first 13 episodes must have still been on Fox before it went to CBS for the rest of the episodes. When I interveiwed Mr.Avery a year or two ago, I kind of sprung it on him by surprise so he didn't have any time to prepare....but sometimes people just forget how to do a voice. It's probably like every other skill and they need to get into practice a bit.

if your a ninja turtle fan, the price doesn't matter and it's the entire 4th season so it's worth 35 bucks.

Also, people like James Avery who did the shredder.. it has been years since he done the voice so it would be hard to get it perfect..

BestBuy.com is even still listing it as being released next Tuesday.
When I interveiwed Mr.Avery a year or two ago, I kind of sprung it on him by surprise so he didn't have any time to prepare....but sometimes people just forget how to do a voice. It's probably like every other skill and they need to get into practice a bit.
Hold up... Are you saying that you conducted this interview? O_o

The episodes with the "old" theme were aired in syndication. the "new" themed ones were on cbs. Even though the syndicated eps had the old theme, they retained the new end credits for some reason. Syndication tmnt and cbs tmnt never aired together, except on USA network. Unfortunately, the order of these isn't correct, but who cares?

picked up the set today at bestbuy. I've watched all of disc 3 or which ever one has slash in it. Glad I got this and I hope they continue to release them in complete seasons. Weird thing is that it's been forever since I've watched this stuff, but it seems like I know exactly what's going to happen in just about every episode. I'm suprised my memory is that good.

The Shredder bonus feature with James Avery sounds really great! He really did try out for the new series you know, but didn't make it. I'd love to check out this feature and stuff although I don't plan on buying Season 4 anytime soon.

Yep. It aired when CBS, for whatever reason, started showing edited episodes of their own series...most likley for commercial purposes. This was when the show was airing in 1995 or 1996, and there was a second older turtle episode from 1993-1991 that aired after the newer episode. The second episodes where sometimes edited...

At least we got that here in NY...dunno about the rest of the world. At least I got to tape 'Donatello's Badd Time' that way...too bad it was missing 10 seconds of show.

Even though there was full knowledge for quite a while of three different opening sequences (syndicated aka Group W eps, CBS's first, and CBS's 'Red Sky'), I see you're talking about the truncated version of CBS's original OP that I noticed on about 10 eps of this set. I never payed it any mind before. They had an abbreviated theme song with different sound effects. If you'll notice though, those eps are all slightly longer than they should be. The goal that most shows are asked to shoot for is 22 and a half minutes. If they exceed that, the show needed to be trimmed. So, they abridged the OP. However, those particular eps still ran over by as much as a minute. Hopefully, the producers didn't get too much penalty for cutting into CBS's commercial time. :) Can you imagine how much advertisers of kids products would pay to get their commercials played during Ninja Turtles?? :D

Amazon.com has it for $29.99. I don't consider that to be expensive considering most DVD movies are like $25 or so. The regular price is $39.98 or something so you're saving 9.99 now. The regular price could come about after it gets released though. I don't think there's a price conversion or anything. I've been getting them on amazon.com since volume 3 as well as other CDs. I actually didn't realize that I wasn't with amazon.ca until a few weeks back but I still don't think it ships from the US and if it does, I don't think I get charged for US prices but I should doublecheck with past purchases.

Volume 6 was listed as $14.18 and with taxes and shipping, it came to $19.55 for me.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to is that it's not expected to arrive until later in the month. I forget how long I waited for volume 6 but I have received them just days after ordering previously.

I thought for sure that the CBS eps weren't supposed to share a end creds with the syndicated batch, but... I looked on all of my VHS volumes with nothing but non-'Red Sky' CBS eps, and it seems I was wrong. I remember now because that confused me even when I was a kid. I even wrote an entire entry in my journal somewhere about the syndicated eps after "THE BIG BLOWOUT" having the same end cred bg image...

Just got the DVD today. I also got batman Volume 3 so TMNT was put on extreme hold. All I watched were the special features, which compared to the awesome interviews on the Batman DVDs weren't to impressive. But it was cool to see the voice actors speak about their work.

Lots of episodes here so it'll take me awhile to watch them all. Though why Plan 6 is on there is beyond me, I guess it's good they kept the set whole even if it's on the 6th volume anyways.

As for the case, I had to move 3 DVDs out of my stand just to make room for the thing! I guess I could take the slip cover off but I don't know where I'd put it.

Got mine today.

I watched the special features first and am currently watching select episodes.

The interviews were great and I really hope to see more of them in the future. I thought it was hilarious how Pat Fraley went through the steps of creating the Krang voice. Apparently Krang is a modified Catherine Hepburn impression. Now that I realize that, that's all I can think about when I hear his voice.

James Avery's interview was pretty good, too. That bit at the end about Shredder's retirement was funny, though he appeared to have lost the voice a bit. Still, great interview, especially hearing Avery describe the Shredder/Krang relationship as "an old married couple".

The episodes appear to be a bit better in the video and sound quality, or maybe I'm just crazy. I've watched a few here and there so far.

Enjoyed "Raphael Meets his Match" quite a bit, really wish Mona had been in more episodes or in the Archie comic or something. I liked her, even if her origin was packed wit plotholes (why did radioactive sea water turn her into a salamander? How did she learn ninjutsu?). Also, this appeared to be a Toei episode. Not one of their best, but very smooth and consistent animation and some of the prettier character models.

"Son of Return of the Fly II" was another good Baxter episode and I loved his dynamic with the alien computer. Kinda funny, and I dunno if David Wise intended it, but with each passing Baxter episode Baxter becomes more and more mindless it seems. He was virtually brainless in this one. Also, I think out of all the dimensions he ever got trapped in, the one at the end of this episode had to be the worst.

"Were Rat from Channel 6" wasn't the best Rat King episode, but I liked how Wise referenced lots of past continuity (was he the only writer in this series who cared about that?). Still, I love the Rat King so this episode earned some easy points.

"Slash, the Evil Turtle from Dimension X" was a bit of a let-down. I had forgotten that Slash in the old toon was considerably different than his Archie appearance. Hated the redesign, though I liked Slash's personality (rampaging maniac).

Still going through the set, but this is a great release. I got it at Best Buy for $39 bucks. A dollar and episode, I guess. More expensive than I was expecting but worth it.

Also, I threw away that stupid puffy sleeve with Raph's face on it. Just takes up needless space.

Couldn't be. There were 26 CBS eps on the Season 4 set, but less than 10 had the truncated intro. BTW, they always aired in the same pairs. "THE DIMENSION X STORY" was always immediately before "DONATELLO'S DEGREE".

A side note, I noticed that Krang talked about the volcano erruption in the first CBS ep of the set. But, the volcano errupted in "THE DIMENSION X STORY", right? There's your proof that Molly Bode's guide is not in continuity order by a long shot. I'm not sure when she ever started putting MWS#s on the individual ep pages, but I'm willing to bet those are the best indicators of continuity.
When I get mine,i'm going to watch all the TMNT episodes in order.
What order are you referring to? Just marathoning all the classic series DVDs in the order they were presented? Damn. That'll take you 40 hours (excluding the 4 eps way outta order and the one repeat on the Season 4 set) without bathroom breaks! Keep us posted on how that works out. :)

Now that I've got it I've watched the features. Pat Farley can still do Krang great but yeah... Uncle Phill just can't seem to do Shredder. I mean dang that was BAD. Now I understand why they didn't cast him when he auditioned for 2003 TMNT's Shredder (Scottie Ray suited that role better anyway). I didn't know Farley was Slash actually. I know he's Baxter and a few other characters but I never put two and two together for Slash. His explanation of how he does Krang's voice was entertaining stuff though not as entertaining as James Avery publicly stating that they treated Shredder and Krang's relationship like that of an old married couple and he follows that up with Shredder saying he and Krang were seperated and that he thought Krang was a nag.

I loved how they talked about how much fun they had recording with the other voice actors. I'm surprised they had so much freedom in the early years as far as addlibbing goes. I'm guessing that's why most people consider the earliest seasons to be the better ones. One thing I like about the 90s episodes though was the consistant animation. The 80's ones episodes rarely looked alike and that could be quite annoying at times. I guess it can't all look as nice as the first episode and the "Hot Rodding Teenagers" episode but I really liked that style.

The pizza recipe was rather uh... normal for TMNT. I guess they didn't want to try one of the turtle's usual crazy toppings. Perhaps they felt that would be too difficult to recreate.

I've still got a ton of episodes to watch though so I better get crack'n.

I was wondering if there was suppose to be a DVD insert though. I seem to have a white card inside mine but nothing else.

I just watched season 4 and I must say, the episodes are alot more fun than I remembered. People keep saying season 3 was the last good year of TMNT, but I must say I disagree. The episodes in season 4 are funnier than ever. It looks like the writers had realized how outrageous the idea of TMNT was and they constantly make fun of hit. Season 4 is funnier than season 3 and in some ways superiour. Don't get me wrong, I love season 3 and I do miss Casey Jones and Usagi :) I enjoyed Pat and James talking about Krang and Shredder. I wonder what special featured will be included in season 5. Maybe more voice actors?

One thing I noticed while going through the set is that Toei did a lot of episodes this season.

Okay, maybe not "a lot", but certainly more than they did for season 3. Unforunately, none of their episodes have really jaw-dropping animation, but they're very consistent and smooth and of a noticeably higher quality than the other episodes.

I will say, they did a very good job on "Leonardo versus Tempestra", particularly during the fight with the trio of monsters. They also did a fairly good job on "Michealangelo meets Bugman".

And SPEAKING of "Michealangelo meets Bugman", anybody else recognize Bugman's voice? It's Dan Gilvezan, otherwise known as Spider-man from Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends! Bugman himself was one big Spider-Man parody (the name "bugman" was even Stan Lee's original name for Spidey) but getting Spider-Man's then-current voice actor to do the role was a real treat.

Also, anybody else notice the Mirage in-joke with Bugman fighting "Dr. Dome" in the comic at the beginning?

This is the begining of the "freak of the week" time for TMNT cartoons. Season 4 handled these stories well by introducing some fun characters like Mona Lisa and Slash but the season 5 mutant stories were considerably more creepy and just plain sad. I mean Muckman... what a drag to be living garbage and Mutagen man just churns my stomach whenever I think of him. I wonder if I could even stand to watch those episodes again. But I want to see the Mondo Gecko episode again so I'm definently getting season 5.

oh my gosh, I got my box set on tuesday and I've been watching a dvd a day. I just finnished the third disk! And I have to agree with the very first poster on this page! Season four of the classic series is awsome and far from being the last good season of the series! This is by far the funniest season of the old toon, and has so many fun stories in it; season four seriously delivers on a whole diffrent level than on other seasons, and I would say that it is of higher quality than season three in some respects. I have found that I am greatly enjoying every episode in this season. unlike in the previous season where some of them I enjoyed more than others.

This dvd release has really brought back some nostalgia for me, from when I would get up and watch this on the USA cartoon express. I remeber seaason four the most because that was when I really started to get into the turtles. Seasons one through three I didn't really get see to much of because I was to little at the time watch it.

I have to say that even episodes that I thought I was gonna to hate (because of reading negative reviews from other sights on certain episodes) I found that I genuanly enjoyed and felt the plot had merit. I even found my self liking episdes that I orginally hated when I was a kid! Like the episode Name that Toon I really enjoyed. I was laughing my ass off at it and the turtles reactions when Howie (spelling) was singing about being a "teenager with a shell" (LMAO) and then again at the "fight" song he sang I was dying, this was funny sh*t! And was it just me or was it Rob Paulsen that was doing the singing voice of Howie?

The one thing I did notice though was that the first crop of episodes on the first dvd where rather poorly animated. Then by the second dvd the animation started to vastly improve. Any one else notice this?

Any way thats all i have to say right now, I have two more dvds to go before I finnish up the box set :D

I'm also enjoying the lost season of the "new " toon. Is it just me, because I'm finding this season has more of an "anime" look to it than in the prior seasons. Anyway, they're great to have! Now if we could only get
a new 2 disc re-mastered special edition dvd of the first live action film, I'd be very happy!8)

Season 4 did usually receive a lot of bashing before the DVD boxset came out. It makes me wonder how people will respond when Seasons 5-6 come out, which I personally think are underrated seasons.

I just watched the extras on this dvd. WOW they where awsome. I wasn't expecting interveiws with any of the voice actors, so I was pleasantly shocked when they had Pat Fraley and James Avery on the disk with them talking about their experinences in their roles. I thought it was so cool that the actors where able to ablib so much at first. I think that is what made the characters personalites so geniuan was because they where ab,le to put their own unique spin on things.

And I thought it was interesting that James was explaining about levels of emotion and that no character is ever played in one way, and that there where diffrent levels of doing emotion. Because he was right, even though this was just a cartoon all the character had diffrent levels of emotion. But I disagree with him that he wasn't as talented as the other characters. I think James did a splendid job of voiceing Shredder and giving him a personality, just like the other actors.

And is it just me or has James Avery really lost a lot of weight? He looks so much thinner than he once did. I hope he is not sick? :(

I hope that on the next season set that the extras has the other voice actors on it as well. I'm hoping that they have Rob Paulsen and Cam Clarke on the next one! And God I hope at some point they tract down Townsend Coleman and have him talk about his role as Michaelangelo. you can't have a release of the classic series with out the the voice of the party dude turtle making an appearance!

If anyone owns the Volume I dvd, the bonus episodes are from a later season, and while the voices are all the same as the original voices, the look of the cartoon is different, the colors are darker and the drawing and style is just not the same. There's also no Shredder/Foot, but instead a new space alien villain.

Also, the opening of the show changed and incorporated scenes from the live action movie and a new theme song.

One of the reaons I ask is because I haven't bought the new Season 4 dvd yet because the majority of the episodes are from the CBS showings, and I wasn't sure if that's when the show changed or not, and I'm probably only interested in owning all the episodes of the Fred Wolf, April in the yellow jumpsuit days.

The later cartoons weren't necessarily bad, I still like them, but I'm first and foremoest a fan of the beginning years of the show, the Shredder, Be-Bop, Rocksteady kinda years.

Thanx for any info.

No, still a ways to go for that 'new look'. It's not til Season 8 (or maybe 9) that it comes in.

im not going to start my S4 set in a while since i just started rewatching S3 to lead up to this but i was readin the thread and why are people complaining about double dipping?
i'd rather get 40 episodes than 38 even if they are repeats and its not affecting quality or price which it didn't here.

Yeah, the season 4 premier was in the last volume but it wouldn't be a complete S4 set without it, plust it starts the season, while on the last volume it gave you a preview of what to come and what happens after the finale.
And for the S5 premier episode, even if we get it again on the next release we can look at it like a "sneak preview" or something, I mean they are freebies why complain?

About the packaging, I like it it'd be nice if the other sets have different 3D turtles, that'd be really cool to have and would make up for the past horrible covers. The only bad thing about it is Raphs big nose is going to make my dvd shelf look odd...at least it'll take less space than if it had been spread on 4 different volumes.

So I wonder how they'll release the next set? will they start with volumes again? its obvious they did this to cash in on the movie but the next volume will probably come out when the new movie dvd comes out, we normally see the announcement of the new set a few weeks after the latest one comes out so we should find out soon.
If they do another season(five) set it'd be a small one with 22 episodes or combine the next sixth seasons that has only 16 episodes making it another big 38 episode release. The seventh season is 27 and it could have a season release and finally packaging the next 3 seasons that are only 8 episodes each into a 24 episode set. just speculating, it'd be nice to have the turtle tips and some commercials on one of the releases as well..

the depressing thing is even the fastest way they do it we won't have the entire series until 2008 or a year from now. Counting we bought the first set around april 04!

I think we'll get at least a boxset of Season 5 the same time the new movie comes out on DVD.

After that hopefully a Season 6 boxset in the Fall...which just leaves Seasons 7-10 for 2008.

But given that Seasons 8-10 only have 8 episodes each, we could probably get a boxset of the entire red sky seasons all together in a 24 ep boxset. That's what I'm hoping for anyway, and it'd make a lot of sense.

I'm scared that if they go back to the volumes, it'll take many more years (like 2 or 3) to get the entire series. :( I hope they do it the way sdp speculated above! Every 4 months is great! I guess as long as they continue to release them every 4 months, regardless of how many, is still great.

one thing that I noticed in this season that has really bummed me out is the fact that Michaelangelo now officially never uses his nunchuckes any more :( . And this saddens me because I feel that a chapter has already be closed because we are already at the point in the series where Michaelangelo get deprived of his primary weapon. I mean he still has his nunchuckes but you never see him use them.

I think the creators taking Michaelangelo's nunchucks from him crippled him in screen time during fight scenes. I'm almost on the last dvd in this box set and i've yet to see Michaelangelo in any fulll contact fights with any of the villans like he used to in earlier seasons. Its like they didn't know how to include him in the fights any more after they took away his contact waepon and gave him a silly grappling hook. And really how are you going to have up close contact fighting with a grappling hook. You can't :x

wow 'Sage Ninja'
I totally remember feeling the same way about that
I had forgotten that he was reduced to a grappling hook lol (poor Mikey)

My guess is that maybe parents complained their kids were trying to mimic his use of nunchucks since Mikey was easily the most popular of the Turtles, though it would seem silly to go after him and his nunchucks, since 2 of the other Turtles use sharp metal weapons, and nunchucks are made of wood.

I would think it'd be easier, and more dangerous for a kid to pick up a stick or grab a knife out of the kitchen drawer to mimic Donnie's staff or Raph's sai's

but, like I said, it's just a guess
I've never heard any official word from anyone involved in the show as to why they stopped letting him use his weapon

Hey, I got this today at my local Wal-Mart Supercenter here in West Plains. I paid $24.84 (minus tax) for it. I'm enjoying it now. In fact, I'm on Disk 2...although I'm having to suffer through having to listen to Howie's music and singing in the "Name that Toon" ep. Fortunately for me poor eardrums, it just ended.

Sheesh, and I thought that I had trouble carrying a tune.............!!!

EDIT: I stand corrected. I'm having to suffer through his atrocious singing and playing in the "Menace, Maestro Please" ep now. And I thought that my dog was tone-deaf.................

Though I haven't "heard anything official" either, there is also the aspect of the UK's censoring of TMNT -- I've read they edited scenes of Mikey using his 'chucks (as well as other stuff). And called it "Teenage Mutant -Hero- Turtles" because the censoring board there felt "Ninja" was an unsavory word.

Whoa, no slagging of the Brits please - although I agree the censorship of TMNT was completely ridiculous. I didn't realise they took away Mikey's nunchucks in the American release as well. See, the theme tune was different here too. Instead of 'Teenage mutant ninja turtles' it was 'Teenage mutant hero turtles' because Ninja was thought to be too violent a word to use. They also changed the word "fighting" in the line 'splinter taught them to be fighting teens' to something else, but I can't remember what exactly. Anyway, in the UK release Mikey never had his nunchucks, not even in the opening credits :x Censorship maimed my favourite turtle!

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up! I just got the first six volumes of the old toon and afterwards noticed the new release of season 4. I thought for a moment the Volumes were completely separate from the sale of the season boxsets and that I'd just wasted my money  I'm still a bit annoyed that the episodes from Volume 2 onwards aren't in order though.

Ya, that annoys me to. At least if Lions Gate released them out of order, they could of done it in a way where it's hard to tell with out looking at A gide like they did for Volumes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Not where it's easy to notes like in season 4, intros switch every so often, and in The Big Zipp Attack in the beginning Krang tries to move the Technodrome from the lover bed witch was before The Dimension X Story where at the end the volcano erupts surrounding the lower part of the Technodrome leaving it stuck deeper into the volcano.

They also changed the word "fighting" in the line 'splinter taught them to be fighting teens' to something else, but I can't remember what exactly.
That line was actually a repeat of the N-word; "Splinter taught them to be NINJA teens".
I'm still a bit annoyed that the episodes from Volume 2 onwards aren't in order though.
They're in order according to Molly Bode's episode guide on NinjaTurtles.com, but we're fully aware that the guide isn't in continuity. Since there's so little continuity in the series from ep to ep, we may never know the exact order. The best that can be done is for the fans to go through the series, point out all the milestones, put them in order, and guess at the rest.
in The Big Zipp Attack in the beginning Krang tries to move the Technodrome from the lover bed witch was before The Dimension X Story where at the end the volcano erupts surrounding the lower part of the Technodrome leaving it stuck deeper into the volcano.
Smashing example. Exactly why Molly Bode seems to have it wrong.

The guide I was referred to when I used to watch the series online was tv.com's. It worked quite well, continuity wise.

That line was actually a repeat of the N-word; "Splinter taught them to be NINJA teens".

Yes, I realised afterwards I'd made a mistake. NINJA was replaced with FIGHTING in the UK credits. Personally I'd say "fighting" sounds a bit more violent than ninja, but that's bizarre censorship for you.

I looked on some sites and it says that Planet of the turteoids is supposed to be part of season four. I'm seriously bummed out about this because that means that we have been given an incomplete season set. And the turtleoids episdess where onne of my favorite story arcs in season four and its not there!

Because they probably animated it at the same time as the ice seasons. Notice the style in animation. Some, like Shredders Mother, or Name that Toon look exactly detailed in style like Pirate Radio. Others, like Turtles of the Jungle, look more in tune with Raphael Versus the Volcano. You'll notice animation similarities with the European episodes and 1992 season, since they might be on the same set.

Plan 6
Shredder's Mom
Four turtles and a baby
Planet of the turtles
Superhero for a day
Son of return of the fly
Bebop and Rocksteady conquir the universe
Slash the evil Turtle
The big Zipp attack
Foot Soldiers are revolting

episodes I don't like:

Turtles of the jungle
Michaelangelo toys around
Rondo in New York
Name that Toon
Manese maestro please
Rebel without a fin
Leonardo VS Tampestra

What do you think?

The animaton style, the story, Raph's stand-in VA - everything about that episode drives me crazy. It doesn't have the usual feel of the series and just looks... well, cheap. Was there a specific reason for this, because I'm guessing I've missed something here :ohwell:

Of Season 4, "Michaelangelo Toys around" was a pretty bad episode. Lackluster animation and a dull plot.

I liked most of the other episodes. "Gadgetman" was also pretty dull, maybe because watching retired superheroes isn't that interesting.

One thing I noticed about Season 4 is about 90% of the non-Shredder episodes have a mad scientist in them. I think its cool to see all the different designs they used for these mad scientists, particularly when they re-used Baxter's human design for Barney Stockman.

I can see why they had to create new villains for this show. Essentially Shredder/Krang, Baxter, Leatherhead and Ratking was all they had aside from the mad scientists and the mobsters.

Too bad Slash is only in one more episode in the series, shame Mona Lisa never returns, and I'm pretty sure Ray doesn't return either. I'm also wondering, was Metalhead ever in another episode? I don't remember.

They haven't shipped it yet, though. Amazon.ca shipped something out earlier that I had ordered an hour later than the boxset.

My mom thinks I'm crazy for ordering from a US site, but as I told her, after three weeks of looking and not finding any Canadian site having it, amazon.com was my last resort.

To bad Lions Gate can't get their brains together and realize that Canadians want the boxsets just as badly as Americans do. I have all 6 individual dvd's that I got from Amazon.ca.

I finally started watching the set with the first 3 episodes..the animation seems worse but i'm happy to see non-shredder plots. This season seems to be a lot wackier than the past ones but its still in the same "attitude" so it still fits.

The giant donatello episode is a perfect example, it was so ammusing though and shows the epitome of the show and how its about fun. And I actually liked the Mikey Toy episode, mostly because the plot felt like a "new" take on Baxter and his mousers.

Shredders mom wasn't bad like i thought it'd be, it was also semi apocaliptic. The neutrino baby episode was actually very good for such a horrible plot and i hate the neutrinos. Everyone acted like they already knew each other, i guess it happened "off screen" in another adventure, I also like episodes that show more light on Dimension X.

another batch of episodes I watched:

Rondo in NY: a pretty weird sci-fi plot that also reminded me of the movie, pretty entertaining.

Planet of the turtles: extremely fun episode, how come the turtles didn't show more interest in wanting to stay in a place with their own kind?

Name that Toon/Menace maestro please: pretty fun duo of episodes that have a direct link. Howie Howard was entertaining enough for 2 episodes.

super hero for a day: never been a fan of "superheroes" in the turtle universe but this one wasn't so bad, I still liked it more than the new show superhero episodes.

back to the egg: a very fun concept, I'm glad "Toddler" turtles were in this universe.

son of return of the fly II - I enjoy all baxter stockman episodes, I just feel so bad for him, he is the most tragic villian in TMNT, he reminds me of Mr. Freeze.

Raphael knocks em dead: any non-shredder episode is always enjoyable even if its usually generic villians. Barney Stockman was a nice way of having human stockman again, though i didn't like him as much.

BBop Rteady conquer the universe: a pretty good episode, nice to see the spotlight on those two and actually getting close to winning. the final scenes were pretty awesome, especially the train crashing on Gorgonzilla or whatever his name is.

Raphael meets his match: fun episode, really liked Mona Lisa a lot. I wonder why she was never used again, lots of potential for her.

Slash: so much different than his action figure, I always thought he'd be a lot different personality wise. In this episode he is more of a missunderstood, not really a villain which is nice.

man i have a really bad memory, I forgot most of the things I wanted to mention about the earlier episodes in this "thoughts" post.

Season 4 shined in its character centric episodes. Whenever one of the episodes spotlighted only one of the Turtles, it was usually a good episode.

My opinion of Season 4 has actually changed after rewatching them. I used to think this season wasn't very good but I was surprised in how much I enjoyed the episodes.

The only bad thing about Season 4 is there's no overall story arc like Seasons 1, 2, and 3 had. The technodrome basically sits in Dimension X the entire season and the season ends with just a standard ho-hum episode.
