I hit up USA Today's website and they have not only a new article but new pictures!
April=Sarah Michelle Gellar
Casey=Chris Evans (aka the Human Torch!)
Karai=Zhang Ziyi (freaking awesome!)
and they confirm that Patrick Stewart is Winters
oh yeah--Kevin Smith has a cameo role as a greasy chef

Those smiles just sumed up my feelings regarding this. I don't know what to say? It's cool knowing the vocie cast, but I was kinda hoping it would be made up of pure voice actors. I mean, I'm stoked about Kevin Smith but, Sarah Michelle Gellar? Chris Evans? I don't know what to think here.

looking at the new pics you can really see some of the differences among the turtles. notice how small Mikey is and how big Raph is
April, the Vampire Slayer? I guess I can live with that. Who is this Zhang person though? That Karai is startlingly... girly looking. I mean, she's more dolled up than any Karai I've ever seen before. Thanks for the heads-up. :D :tthumbsu:

Yes I did notice! And they all have different shaped heads as well, so hopefully with time, we can figure out who is who without the bandanas and weapons, or the voices either for that matter!
I cannot wait for this movie. It's been a long time coming!

With Patrick Stewart in the cast, could this bring in a huge fan base to the movie who loved him in X-Men and Star Trek?
And also, Kevin Smith and Sarah Michelled Gellar have a huge cult following as well. TMNT might, (I said might here) be a surprise blockbuster for 2007.

it reminds me of the first film. his eyes make him look borderline sadistic. you can see the anger just in the shape of his eyes
Cool... it's pretty easy to see the differences between the guys in that shot. Each has his own build, his own facial structure (wow, subtle)... and his own scars?
Leo is looking very claymationy in the rain one... interesting.

you can see April in the corner of that group image as well. It looks like they are at a temple or something. With Splinter there I wonder if that means he's going to be in the battle, kicking some ass alongside the boys
Don't you just love it when professionals refer to turtles as amphibians like they did here (http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/2006-12-20-ninja-turtles-inside_x.htm)? I guess if the reporter doesn't mind making himself or herself sound foolish, I shouldm't care either. ^_^

Most of the oldschool fans who watched the old toon that I ask about the new toon don't like it due to it not actually being the oldschool cartoon reborn.
The "C0W4BUHNGAH!!!1" fans very much outweigh the "OMG LEO KILLED T3H SHREDDAR WIT DEECAPINASHIN!!!!111" fans.

looking at the new pics you can really see some of the differences among the turtles. notice how small Mikey is and how big Raph isWell Raph appears to be closer than the rest, so he should look bigger. I'm sure there is still a size difference but I don't think it's as large as some people think.

Other than Patrick Stewart, I don't really care for the other people.
This movie looks great, but the human character design is just horrible. They look more and more out of place in the movie. TMNT look dead serious, but the women has a bit of a... Bratz look to them... *shivers* Karai looks like the weight of her head will cause her to bend backward and snap her body in half.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i119/jgbfan13/tur.jpg
Also, about the size of Raph... I think he's actually a bit closer to the screen than Mikey. Still there's no denying that he is bulkier than Mikey, but this picture makes it more obvious partly because Raph is closer. At least that's what it looks like. I could be wrong though. Kind of hard to tell.
Masked Ninja
12-21-2006, 10:53 AM
I imagine they're all close to the same size, yes. I'm just looking at the shape of the shoulders and arms - Raph has some serious traps, while Mikey has much less. Raph has a thicker neck, too, relative to the size of his head.

You know, I noticed something. While the TMNT and Splnter look rather good, Karai seems to have been lifted from one of those Barbie-CGI-movies. I understand that they need to save money wherever they can, but such an imbalanced look on the main cast? I doubt that's a very good idea.
And why on earth is her waist only about 2 inches in diameter? That's just insane.

i'm not complaining! i kinda dig it, and also look! the foot soldiers are wearing Y-fronts!!!!
as far as the voices, awesome! on all choices :D i'm glad the turtles don't have celebrity voices too.
as far as designs I like them, karai doesn't look as freaky when you compare her to the turtles who are also 'skinny' its just the design of all the characters, so she is not that skinny in comparison, besides her voice actress is very skinny herself.
The human characters look cartoony but i like it that way, i actually like them a lot. I'm guessing others wanted them more 'realistic' but it wouldn't fit as well.
I'm hearing all this about the humans looking unreal. Tru dat. They look like the good-guy characters out of a generic 'tweeny videogame. But, Barbie? Bratz?? Get real. Let's start with the greater of the evils first. Being that Bratz are all supposed to be 'tweens themselves, they have no figure. Plus, their round heads make up 40% of their body mass. Now, in Barbie, those characters are always tall. Thus, they are more realistically proportioned than TMNT's human characters. However, I still think they all look way younger than they should.

Dude, I don't care if they look cartoony. I like toons. Bring on the toons. But I'm uncomfortable with these designs. April is not a bobble-head, and Karai is a ninja warrior, not a corset-bound battle barbie.
That said, I do still expect good things from this movie. :)

I've had the feeling for a long time that he's always been bald or shaved. Casey is the only role I can think of where he had hair (and in TMNT 3 Whit was shaved) leaving me to believe it was always a wig.

It has nothing to do with their figure and more to do with the first impression. Just one look at these guys and the first thing that pops into my mind is Bratz type CGI. I don't think others associate it with those other girly toys due to boy shape at all. They look plastic is the first thing that comes to my mind. Oh that and they're hideous. April has always had this intelligent and mature image in my mind. When I saw the CGI model, the first thing I see is a deformed 14 year old girl.
The turtles being more realistic then the humans seems kind of ironic. It almost seems like turtles are real, and the these "human critters" are these fantasy beings dropped into the turtle's universe. You can believe a 5 foot tall walking talking turtle, but these hairy ape-like creatures they call humans look like something out of a sci-fi fantasy movie.
IMO the guys are the most important.
That is so true. Even to this day, I find it extremely weird that they say starring Elias Koteas and what's her name that I forget. I mean, we didn't come here to watch April and Casey, we came to watch the turtles. I have nothing against April and Casey, but come on, do you really think people were drawn to this movie if it was only about April and Casey? We came to watch the turtles, they are the true stars of this movie!

That actually may be the point. I admit, it could just be the way the design translate to CGI or just the design itself, but maybe since the turtles are the stars of the show, and might even take more to time to render or whatever, they get more effort put into them. Or since we're going to be so involved with the Turtle's world, the "real" world should seem slightly weird.
The more I look at the pics of Casey, the more he looks like one of the Incredibles.
I was just thinking. Since Kevin Smith plays a chef, wouldn't it be nice to see him yell for a pizza delivery boy and the guy's name is Keno. That would be a great throwback.

I dont mind a cartoony look for the human characters, it matches the look of the comics if you ask me, although a realistic representaion would be nice also. But you guys are right about the skin texture, it looks like a peice of plastic thrown over their skull, hopefully they will animate well. I cant say I like the design of the foot soldiers too much though.

I dunno why everyone is so stoked about Kevin Smith? Have you ever heard the guy voice act, like in Clerks the Series or Duck Dodgers? He's awful.
Buffy I can live with and I have no qualms with any of the other selections. Pics look good, too.

Hey, you think they'll show the Turtles, or at least one of them ducking their head inside their shell like Mikey did in Turtles 1 and Leo did in Turtles 3?

It would make for some cool, fluid action. I can see that.

I just remember that first one with Mikey, I guess it caught some people off guard, and I remember very well that the guy sitting next to me began to choke on his popcorn out of shell shock.
I sure hope this movie has some oohhs and aahhhs. The trailer certainly was a feast for the eyes.

hmmm I¡m starting to have doubts already... I was hoping the movie would be a tad darker and grittier than the show, like the comics... But seeing Karai designed like a cartoon character rather than a real woman (even Final Fantasy women look better than that and they're just game cinemas) is giving me doubts... I mean with toony designs like that will people take the movie as seriously as they did the live-action one, or will it just look like an extra long episode of the new toon but CGI-ed....

Go watch the trailer on the big screen. The way the humans look will be the last thing on your mind.

Well, I am not letting any ole nit picking crab turn me off from the movie. I'm excited by it, everytime I learn something new about it, it just keeps getting better and better. It's a great time to be a Turtle fan. An open minded one at least!

i agree, why are people so negative about this, give it a chance, it definitely is a great time to be a turtle fan, i've waited for this movie for over a year, and everything i've been seeing has just made the anticipation even that much greater! "God I love being a Turtle":thyper: :tgrin:

I hate to crash the party with a little sadness...and I too hope Splinter kicks tail...
But I still can't believe a great actor like Mako died after he just recorded for the voice of Splinter...
Also I wonder, Splinter isn't going to sound anything like Aku from "Samurai Jack"...is he?

The animation is fine.
I'm more worried about the story. I hope the whole thing isn't just a TMNT Vs. random monster fight from the start till finish.

He'll probably sound like Uncle from "Avatar"...or a combo of the 2....voice actors are silly like that... course I always thought April sounded like a combo of Delia Ketchum and May...
Delia Ketchum
Is that Ash's mom's name?

Yup.
And now I have to come up with 7 more characters. There we go.

It's not. We already know it's about the Turtles coming back together as a family after drifting apart.

and we don't know exactly how the foot clan play into this. I mean in the trailer we even see foot soldiers fighting the monsters
Perhaps Karai and/or Winters bit off more than they could chew?

Well we already know they're trying to gather these monsters up, maybe the Foot wer'e trying to subdue the monster.

Agreed. And I always thought Phil LaMarr made Jack sound humorous at times as well as dignified. (*nervous laugh* I'm also a Samurai Jack fan. Forgive my digression.)
A little Akuish twinge in his voice would be fine, now that I think about it.

its possible but you have to ask yourself something: would the foot clan wok with someone else without expecting something in return? plus you have to aks yourself: can the foot clan really be trusted even if a deal is made?

I don't know what exactly Winter's is offering. But to address the second point, although they're evil, I don't remeber them ever flaking on a deal. I mean that truce between the TMNT and the Foot Clan still holds.

The movie is probably going to be as much about Kari letting go of her beef with the guys as it is them geting back together to save the world.

that's the cartoon and comics though. The movie foot clan is straight up evil and from what we have seen are strictly out for themselves

I'm looking at the offical synopsis and something caught my eye
After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their rat sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Max Winters is amassing an army of ancient monsters to apparently take over the world. And only one super-ninja fighting team can stop them—those heroes in a half shell—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael! With the help of old allies April O'Neil and Casey Jones, the Turtles are in for the fight of their lives as they once again must face the mysterious Foot Clan, who have put their own ninja skills behind Winters' endeavors. Making this new incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles truly cutting-edge, the film will be created entirely with state-of-the-art CG animation, giving them a completely new look for the 21st century.
I think that word is key. I don't know I can't really place what's going on now with the synopsis, the new images released and the trailer. Nothing is going to be what it seems I think.

I read the cast info on IMDB.com,
And so far, I think it's cool that a lot of talent has been gathered up to bring this movie to life.
Especially with Patrick Stewart and Billy West.

Billy West hasn't been confirmed. Never believe anything the internet movie database says unless you know it's official. Billy West being in it is just a rumour. Would he even have time to be in a TMNT movie when he's been busy with all the new Futurama stuff? :ohwell:

He could have made time for both. Lots of VAs do.

How many things does Frank "Voice God" Welker have to do? I think Billy can juggle both...;)

Well it caught my eye was all, even if it didn't say Additional Voice or a small role.
just the idea of having the original voice of Stimpy to be in New TMNT movie sounded cool.
